about the atmosphere ahead of trump's campaign up here and we're standing in downtown tulsa oklahoma and here tomorrow. to my right is a security fence build up and ride right there on this side to a camera can show you this is actually the checkpoint which lets those hundreds of trump supporters who have already gathered here in a few hours getting closer to the arena have to go through some security checks but as you can see right down right behind me here there's hundreds of people here now and the crowd is growing by the minute and they're quite excited quite excited to see their president they say. some of them dozens of them have camped out here all night all week so to speak and now that's their day and they're very excited so far everything is fairly peaceful the occasional very patriotic chant and

that's the situation so far there will be thousands more coming here that's for sure meanwhile on the other side of that fence and the debate over how to achieve racial justice continues i'm joined now by our reporter peter rather doll who's been taking a look at the racial reckoning sweeping america today good to have you here what have you been seeing well i mean these past weeks we've seen you know a debate about police for 4 we've seen debates about whether removed statues to former slave owners but we've also seen a debate about the toppling of statues of the different kind we're talking about books and movies branson even that are themselves kind of a monument to our races past one example is the popular breakfast friend of mine with that not only known for its taking makes mabel served it's also known for its controversial mascot you know when the product debuted in 1909 and to my mom was styled on the character mammy at the time a popular races caricature that depicted black women as. happy to serve their white masters and in fact on jim i'm originally hired a former slave to serve as

a company's living trademark so this week quaker oats the company that owns on jemiah finally announced that it will retire the brand this century saying that there's no room for racism in its lineup and what are some steps other companies have been taking what we say in the u.s. we've seen several companies including nike for instance making juneteenth so in the 1900 that was yesterday the official you know the date that marks the actually the end of slavery making that day a paid company holiday the german sports where giant data is has gone even a step further saying that it will make all these new hires or 30 percent of these new hires at least people of color if we go to europe and britain. a place that has a long and very troubled history with colonialism insurance giant lloyd of london's has now come out saying that it will pay reparations for its role in the

transatlantic slave trade and of course is not just companies that are you know partaking in this debate we're also seeing a lot of countries especially here in europe that are steeped in colonialism where politicians are now entering the fray for instance the dutch prime minister mark what is broken out against the longstanding in highly controversial black people tradition where essentially you know around christmas time white people dress up in or wear black or black face and pray through the streets highly controversial. prime minister what a did stop short of saying that he would ban it so there's still a long way to go but you know we are leasing the 1st steps of kind of a racial reckoning more an attempt to write racial wrongs if you will so baby steps in the right direction would you say yeah i mean you know a lot of these steps have definitely been welcomed by. i people of color no question about it but for many also this sudden sea change that where all of us and
7:06 pm
there we're now seeing from from a lot of these countries like this that a lot of these countries always an incredibly woke to racism it does come with a bitter aftertaste i mean let's be honest the as tragic as the death of george floyd is it's not new didn't reveal anything with it already know and to claim that his death was somehow the big eye opener what made all these companies all isn't realize that there's a problem with racism it's just you know to many it seems so painfully unbelievable almost to the point of being impossible and so you know people of color been calling out on him i'm a few years. down the black people for decades and they've been standing up for racial justice you know for ages and so many are asking what took so long and i think it's a fair question and if we don't see more than if this just ends up being a hollow p.r. stunt then frankly george floyd will have died for nothing. thank you for your

7:09 pm
today this new law is as far reaching as many have feared the hong kong government will create a national security agency headed by the chief executive and that agency will also appoint the judges that deal with national security cases moreover beijing will create its own agency in the city that will be responsible for intelligence gathering but that can also take over cases of national security so on the basis of crimes that are not narrowly defined at least from what we've seen today beijing can interfere whenever it sees it necessary to deal with what it sees as an infringement of national security. well we also spoke with correspondent phoebe kong in hong kong and i asked her how the territory is taking this. the drops of the national security legislation sent shock waves across the city is not only a matter in hong kong itself but it's drawing global attention around the world the u.s. and u.k.

has already expressed deep concerns to us the legislation saying that it could be a bridge off the one country 2 systems and the joint declaration signed by china and britain saying that it could be the end of one country to systems locally. and many activist and pro-democracy supporters they are deeply worried about the new lash of station. because spelt again off the autonomy of hong kong i specially you could homme the art be independent judiciary in hong kong and out of mainland chinese judiciary could override the local court in the future despite the fact that we don't have much the house today but we can see this is today why our concerns and cya to you to us and i just say but on the other hand the probation cammies indeed like they are supporting the legislation saying that you could block the national security loopholes in the city and we don't see them astray sions and
