10:02 am
don't see why i would act any different with this. trump defended years and ministrations handling of the pandemic even if cases across the united states surprise i said hundreds of thousands of lives we don't ever was even a man was he said high infection rates come with more testing. when you test of when you do testing to that extent you can find more people you get a final cases so i said to my people shoulder testing down please he blamed media coverage of convent and the threats of a legit violence from social justice protest his fellow supporter turnout in tulsa . well he chose to ignore protest his pleas for racial equality and an end to police brutality instead he focused on branding himself as the law and order president. we are.

it's a catch phrase that echoes from the time of nixon as the country appears to be moving towards a new era in equality trump holds on to the same campaign formula culture wars and division in the hopes of mobilizing his banks. during the next year and they haven't correspondents deafened simmons was in telson for the rally and he told us about some of the day surprises tulsa oklahoma had 3 surprises ready surprise number one for the president of the united states who wanted to have a strong coming out of the gate with a new invigorated campaign start here in tulsa oklahoma but a lot of people were no shows a lot of trump's supporters were no shows the arena wasn't fully booked never ever were 90000 people in this arena. and outside it the same picture massive

no shows all over the from campaign had to cancel out site stages and outside activities for the expected overflow which never materialized surprise number too many people thought that protesters here and to trump protesters would be clashing with and on a large scale clashing with trump supporters that also didn't happen protests were a not existence for the most of the day and be largely peaceful absolutely peaceful minus the one or other cafe awful with trump supporter like lives matter and he trump protesters were peaceful protesting. surprise number 3 and not really a surprise the president and the trump campaign are no blaming the media and the protesters for the lack of numbers of attendees for their reli media as well as the protesters had really nothing to do with the lack of show for support for the

a day before most of the workers are from romania and bulgaria who live in cramped accommodations provided by the company the outbreak is among several reported at german slaughterhouses in recent months. with more than a 1000 confirmed cases of corona virus the outbreak of to turn years meat processing plant has now become the biggest in germany's most populous state and with the situation worsen in the military has been called in to help test plant workers all of the companies 6500 employees are now in quarantine and about a half have been tested the district commissioner says they are working around the clock to get the situation under control. most of the highest priority in the district of good to slow remains the prevention of any further spread of the virus and to avoid a shutdown. authorities have complained however that the operators of europe's largest meat processing plant have been making their job difficult by not providing

own moved and frustrated with the ongoing situation. this is serious it's catastrophic we'll all just have to suffer again we don't know for shutdowns coming and weather will affect us it's not nice. could be that they should have started testing earlier with so many people working there don't know. what the situation threatening to spiral out of control authorities have closed the factory for 14 days. or more almost story i'm joined in the studio by data political correspondent kate brady ok thanks for coming in this isn't the 1st time there's been a corona virus outbreak at a slaughterhouse in germany how can this keep happening well this comes down to has been attributed so far to some of the current working especially living conditions that many of these workers have to live in most of these employees to nears and
10:09 am
many other slaughterhouses as well particularly in western parts of germany migrants contract workers from bulgaria and romania and these living conditions that many employees have to put up with it is it's no secret that it's something that's been discussed time and time again by by local authorities and national level here in germany as well but the meat processing industry in germany is so powerful and a lot of the the firms say that they need these contract workers to keep meat prices low in germany and so far that's how they've been able to pretty much turn a blind eye to some of these issues. that we're seeing in the accommodation for these migrants and how is this affecting the coronavirus numbers here in germany what we've seen just yesterday was the reproduction rate again here in germany it's now at 1.79 and that's been attributed the rope a cork institute says that's the public health institute here in. due to these
10:10 am
outbreaks that we're seeing not only at the slaughterhouses in western germany but we've also had some cluster infections even here in the capital in berlin as well 7 locations in the southern part of berlin now being quarantined about halfway through that quarantine so so far though the public health institute has said that this isn't something we need to be too worried about and at the moment the number of new cases nationwide is still relatively low where you mention that these working conditions are quite well known what do we expect will happen to prevent this from continuing with a more cases like this continue as well so far the 6 and a half 1000 employees at tinian meat processing firm they've all being quarantined but at the same time there's also other people who don't work at the meat persis info who live nearby they've also been quarantined because they live in the same apartment buildings and the state government cabinet in the state of north
10:11 am
rhine-westphalia where this outbreak is in western germany the cabinet is meeting today to discuss whether they need to have a wider quarantine put in place so at the moment it seems that it has been contained to the employees at this meat processing firm but of course that off a is that you know all these are you going to abide by the quarantine that's been fences put up in some places to try and keep people within that quarantines but of course you know emotions are running high it's not something that people necessarily want to abide by we've got another hot week coming up in germany as well particularly in that part of germany in these a not conditions that people want to be kept in at the best of times let alone and . yeah no no one's to be indoors or out will get ready thanks very much for us up to speed at which will be keeping a close eye on the story. here's a quick roundup now of developments in the coronavirus pandemic beijing reported 22 new cases of the coronavirus on sunday this comes after
