mood. for many americans this is the 1st time out of 2 months. they are hungry for fun and some. want to celebrate this 4th of july weekend as they normally do i'd like to keep moving on do the fireworks continue no malice as much as we can moving back to normalcy is what we'd like to do and i think if you take the right for cautions there's nothing to be scared they don't want your party to know what you enjoy yourself but you have you know how many thousands in a group one at protests how to deal with the pandemic is highly politicized some fear that the restrictions are taking away their personal freedom of those just seeing the responsibility. i expect here in our community in maryland that because it's tor season now that these cases are going to come back as people do not socially distance or where there are mass while visiting our beaches i don't think president will do anything i think he will continue to say it's a hoax and not believe in the science that is there causing so many cases and. this

a mask they tell us we are here to fun we want to celebrate we are done with this why was the business owners obviously do have a different approach they fear that after the weakened they will face a new wave which will lead to a new locked on and that would bring them to their knees in 2 weeks' time we will know whether the right steps were taken people celebrated this unprecedented fortune to live in a responsible way or the worst fears of the next wave. to come true. for more on this i'm joined now by eric cycle being an epidemiologist with the harvard school of public health joining us from washington they say mr feit old saying we've seen a dramatic rise in cases in recent days should americans sit this weekend celebrations out. well it's really hard to tell americans voice when the most popular vacations and holidays but they need to be more careful outdoors

distancing and everyone needs to wear masks so if you do all these kind of things you can still enjoy yourself but unfortunately a lot of americans are not doing things the president himself is holding an early 4th of july fireworks display at mount rushmore tonight thousands are expected to attend and many worry that this might turn into a super spreader event what's your take on these last gatherings well if it's outdoors it's less risky than some of his previous indoor rallies but the keeping is mask wearing prevalence is his rally actually has a lot of highly dense seating together so if you have highly dense seating you need to wear masks and it's not that difficult and doesn't hinge on human rights human rights in one way but it will actually stop there because we can prevent the super spreading events that's the key goal for seeing a spike in cases just as locked down measures are in other countries have lifted

their restrictions and still been able to keep the virus at bay what is gone wrong in the u.s. if this really was mainly about wearing masks this is a combination of rate opening truth fast in and of too aggressively and not wearing masks just to distancing that when you tell people that visit are open people are gather again and the problem is did keeping distances especially indoors in bars and restaurants is just not a realistic scenario and compounded merican around mask wearing in the sun belt and some things are really really low and all together creates this confluence where the spreading is just will continue what measure is what you recommend going forward. i mean really mandatory. in also says state governors to stop blocking the mandates of local counties and states if you
