our 4 legged friends be the answer to curbing the spread of the corona virus we take a look at a program to train sniffer dogs to identify infections even before symptoms appear . america evans team thanks for joining us we begin in the united states where crowds of people gathered to witness the body of the late civil rights icon john lewis being carried across the edmund pettus bridge in selma alabama in a highly symbolic ceremony this was the last crossing for john lewis off the bridge that changed his life and helped change american history 55 years ago on a day now known as bloody sunday lewis and other. protesters were beaten by police

john lewis looms large. a short time ago i talked to kyle gases from troy public radio who witnessed the ceremony from near the edmund pettus bridge bridge was the sight in 1965 of the bloody sunday march galvanized by the death of one of their fellow activists 2 jackson protesters here in selma decided to march from selma to montgomery protesting for the right to vote they organized and on that sunday afternoon they marched 2 by 2 on the sidewalks the bridge you cannot see anything that you get to the top of the bridge and look down and as they reach that point they could see the alabama state troopers who are 'd assembled and who were told that they were to stop the march with any means necessary and of course that included some very violent means and john lewis was one of the 1st to be beaten by the alabama state troopers very badly there was actually blood on this bridge it was hence the name bloody sunday. now some of our viewers may not be aware of

this but the man that this bridge is named after edmund pettus was actually a leader of the ku klux klan and a white supremacist why does this bridge still maintain that name despite its symbolism for the civil rights movement. yes that bridge is still named edmund pettus it after a confederate general he was also a grand dragon in the land when i making member of the station and he was a u.s. senator representing alabama and as many people know a lot of. ponds and monuments across the south are named to meddle in honor of confederate individuals and then in this particular case in 1065 as marchers approached this bridge it was still they dug right. today there have been a number of lines requesting that it be changed to the name congress john that
