come. on. in respect. to the fact that. this is due to the news life from berlin to heartbreak in bolivia the corner of ours pandemic there leads to desperate scenes people dying in their cars from covert 19 because overwhelmed hospitals are turning them away at a special report also coming up. gracing the red flag doctors alarmed by the troubling rise of kuwait 19 cases in germany caution the nation risks squandering
4:01 pm
its early success in fighting the outbreak clips in where in the world is one congress after space former king leaves the country amid a corruption probe we'll get an update on where the royal may have run. my life thank you so much for your company everyone we begin this broadcast in bolivia which finds its which finds itself rather in the region at the epicenter of the global corona virus pandemic the country's health care system there is overwhelmed by the spread of the disease most of the more than 80000 infections are in the capital la paz where hospitals laboratories and funeral homes are on the brink of collapse and just 5 days the police collected more than 140 bodies from the streets. in this car a 68 year old man has died as
4:02 pm
a result of kovac 19 he never made it to hospital just a few hours earlier a friend and family members had tried to get him help at 5 medical centers but they were denied. because all the hospitals are full we were sent to the hospitals in la porte and in quote to whom he stopped breathing when we were underway and that's why we're here the dead man's sister says her goodbyes while the police examine the corpse. and officer hands over that death certificate since the coroner hasn't turned up the officer says people aren't just dying in their cars they're also dying on the street and at home hospitals are at breaking point and it's becoming harder to access treatment therapy even while searching for help people often go from one hospital to the other some of them die in their cars our department records deaths that occur in private vehicles and on public
4:03 pm
transportation but a lot of this if you go. bolivia's currently in the community transmission phase santa cruz la paz and cochabamba are the worst affected regions the average age of death is about $75.00 with more men dying than women. rebecca's father died in his home because no hospital in an alto would admit him. and we can do is bury him that's all we can do my father's no longer with me. the stories of being shuttled from hospital to hospital are repeated every day during the pandemic and there's no end in sight cemeteries are almost full and funeral parlors have run out of coffins but this man complains that he had to say goodbye to a family member in a particularly painful way. they simply put him in an improvised box. you can't even barter with them about the price saying you're willing to pay for
4:04 pm
better but there is nothing else better than. family members aren't even allowed to enter cemeteries and they have to say their final goodbyes from afar tossing flowers at the perception of cars bringing in the bodies for burial and every day police pick up an average of 70 bodies from the streets 85 percent of them infected with kolbert 19. harrowing scenes there from bolivia now should germany brace itself for a so-called 2nd wave of covert $900.00 the head of the german doctors union is so alarmed by what she sees she's now come out and says it's already here in a newspaper interview. 'd said there was a danger that germany would squander away the success it had achieved so far while there has been a steady uptick in the number of cases in recent weeks with over 870 new infections counted on tuesday and i said hospitals were prepared but still urged people to
4:05 pm
stick to social distancing and hygiene rules and to continue wearing masks. all right let's get you the latest now w. political correspondent simon young is tracking developments for you simon what measures are in place now currently as we speak to get a handle on the uptick of cases here in germany. well lola one of the things that the your thought is a particularly concerned about is people who have been going on vacation particular around europe and are now returning to germany and that's why they've instituted a program of free testing at airports at rail stations at past terminals and other key points so offering free testing to people and very soon they're going to make that mandatory for people returning from highly affected countries and regions
4:06 pm
so that's one key focus another thing i think we're seeing is the police getting increasingly robust in action that they're taking where people are perceived not to be you know wearing masks or following the distancing rules we've seen that in certain sort of party hotspots for instance here in berlin but also in relation to that big anti corona measure demo that we saw here in berlin on saturday i think the police are ready to impose tough fines or break up gatherings where they see them so those are a couple of measures now and there has been growing a resistance to some of which you the alluded to what with that demonstration that took place on saturday people are fed up basically with some of the measures that are in place so how might this now go down with people in the country. well i think when you look at germany broadly more than whatever 80 percent of people say that
4:07 pm
they are quite happy with the kind of measures requirement to wear marched some public transport for instance or in enclosed spaces and also measures that we're now seeing it being imposed in schools as they begin to open up again so i think the vast majority of people in germany are behind these measures we did see 20000 people here on the streets of berlin on saturday come coming many of them from all over the country to show their frustration some of them are people who sort of opposed the state in the government whatever they do but i think quite a significant proportion were also just people saying you know we are really desperate businesses and our lives have been turned upside down and we would like the government to be aware of that. all right and of course says schools are just reopened in some regions here in germany yesterday and what plans are there in
4:08 pm
place if there are outbreaks in schools after reopening. well yes mecklenburg western pomerania was the 1st state to start its school operation yesterday and what they've got there is a requirement for the students to wear mosques in corridos in communal areas also to sort of follow a one way system as they move around the school the idea is that that will allow the school authorities to sort of separate the different groups out so that there if there is an infection they don't have to close the entire school and the politicians in that state is saying they're incredibly vigilant and waiting to see how the system operate in other parts of germany which will be opening their schools soon they're saying well you know they may move immediately to close schools again if the if there is a sort of wave of new outbreaks we'll know
4:09 pm
a lot more i think from next week when more than a 3rd of germany's schools will be back in operation to some younger reporting thank you very much i want to stay on the theme of could there corner virus let's see what's happening elsewhere the a world health organization has warned there may never be what it called a silver bullet for covert 19 a number of vaccines are in clinical trials but it's still not clear how much protection they can offer the number of covert 19 cases in latin america has passed 5000000 as the region hardest hit by the pen demick in the world australia meanwhile is deploying the army to enforce new law down rules in the state of victoria anyone caught breaching orders to stay at home while now face a hefty fine and mainland china and hong kong have reported fewer cases and
4:10 pm
stricter measures appear to be having an effect. but more news to tell you about here some of the other stories from around the world. north korea appears to be making progress developing nuclear weapons well that's at least according to a classified report by experts monitoring u.n. sanctions they say the country is likely to have created small nuclear devices to fit into the warheads of its ballistic missiles. typhoon huggy put it made landfall on china's eastern coast early on shoes sebring high winds and heavy rains it has now weakened and is being described as a tropical storm as it heads towards china's financial capital shanghai. and italy firefighters and volunteers are spending a 6th day battling forest fires in the eastern region of the mayor of the regional capital said no one had been evacuated but contingency plans were in place

if the blaze spreads closer to residential areas. space former king klein carlos is reported to have a grow up qually left the country has the parcher comes amid a scandal over alleged illegal payments linked to a railway project in saudi arabia while in a letter to his son king philippe the former monarch said he was leaving spain so philippe could work unhindered by the scandal. the news's rocks by juan carlos the former spanish king is going into exile it's not been announced where he's heading he says he's done so to protect the money from scandal but he's decision has outraged many spaniards. this is really bad he should pay the money back. when i say that. it's a high speed decision he should stay and defend himself in court like the rest of us or you. prosecutors have long been investigating kwan carlos the monarchy is
4:12 pm
facing accusations he took a kickback from saudi arabia when spanish companies won a contract to build around the way between mecca and medina there the king's former love can it's a sign of it can stein is suspected to have received the broad money spanish journalists were given late types which she admits helping to hide the some. the king made a fortune especially in the united arab emirates and the gulf states and also saudi arabia. he sceptic gifts and nations and then he set up an elaborate financial structure to conceal that money. save me i don't see. that if republicans have been capitalizing on the royal scandal by organizing protests against the royal family they are hoping spaniards have had enough. of the corruption doesn't just involve
4:13 pm
a few bad apples demonstrating against the money he has a corrupt system of innocence and they want to. punk carlos allegedly continued to finance a lavish lifestyle with the laundered money after he abdicated the throne he could still face charges of the matter but now he's put a little distance between himself and son king philippe and between himself and prosecutors. well it's a latest now on these dramatic developments in spain i'm now joined by correspondent kind that last question thank you so much for joining us 1st off i understand that just moments ago prime minister heather sung sanchez addressed the nation what did he say. well he did he made a balance of the last months of this political course that he's finishing now for the summer break but everybody was waiting for him to say something about especially the whereabouts of
4:14 pm
a team the former king of spain quote last premier he didn't want to think exactly where he lives actually he would fuse to tell exactly the whereabouts of the spain but he said that he respects the decision of the royal family and presidency of the state to distances him self the situation from. whoever is in the family that may have made any wrongdoing and he the prime minister also said that today's conclusion is not on trial that only. people but people or people can be tried in court actually and he has said that while the . king of spain one last premier of the 4 making has already said that he he has pledged to corporate and respond before just. do we know
4:15 pm
where former king juan carlos is at the moment. this is we were all we were all trying to find out we were waiting for patterson to give some clarity on that but the latest reports are pointing out. a former king might be in portugal and that makes a little bit more sense because for the spanish people will not make. any sense it would be very difficult to understand but being a former team would fly to the republic to the dominican republic as it was 1st reported now that we are in the very deep economic crisis we maybe could not really understand a person and you know is you know under serious allegations would you would go to to to the caribbean to a caribbean island to enjoy you know some time yes the optics would not be good but
4:16 pm
how did it come to this. well it's a difficult question i would say that it all it started in one flight in 2000. and 14. this is when all these pictures emerged of looking for spain hunting elephants in botswana with. that is now investigated as part of you know the allegations of. money laundering and so on and that particular moment is when the spanish population changed the way they were looking at one of the most prominent figures in recent history of spain the democratic huge story office space and this is where all this started and this is where when the king office space started to move
4:17 pm
allegedly some money from the accountants with land to all their accounts and to the accounts of corey not arson that is now what is being investigated in this way is. by the switzerland prosecution of auriti and also here at the supreme court has just changes probably the way we're looking at that particular figure when we saw him. you know hunting elephants with i don't you know knowing exactly what he was doing in. the last question reporting for you from spain thank you very much. the u.s. election presidential election i should say is just 90 days away and president donald trump is facing an uphill battle to reelection he's trailing by large
4:18 pm
margins in opinion surveys and he has been roundly criticized for his handling of the pandemic some starch republicans are now mulling what was once unthinkable when for a democrat come november. brian mcgrath has been a republican all his life the military adviser had a career in the navy where he was commander of a destroyer conservative values are his compass but since donald trump took office he no longer recognizes his party he's turned his back on it and longs for change listen i disagreed with virtually every word that came out of brock obama's mouth i his policies were anathema to me but i was never not proud of him as the president trump is a man who has almost no ideological moorings. mcgrath is part of the new republican resistance movement they call themselves republican voters against trump many voted for trump in 2016 but now they're turning against him with nearly 100 self produced

videos. before the president has broken in my. face. riddled with guilt and very embarrassed that i voted for him and the d.n.c. run as a tomato. i will vote for the film made ok is because i believe the tomato can win through was harm. that our current president. this initiative for rebellious republicans was founded by sarah longwell a conservative political strategist she hopes that the videos will encourage as many republican allies as possible * to do the unthinkable they don't trust the media they don't trust elites they certainly don't trust democrats what they need is to feel like they have permission to kind of cross tribal lines and vote for a democrat which is something they've never done before something's wrong with donald trump. another republican anti trump initiative is the lincoln project they
4:20 pm
attack trump head on using guerilla tactics putting for vocative videos on the us t.v. news network fox each clip is a punch in the presidential stunning they show him as incompetent or as lot of your putin's friend and comrade hungers some clips seem to be addressed directly to the president himself trump has hit back calling the lincoln project a disgrace and the people they're losers when he's attacking us for a day he's not attacking joe by week's focus on us for a day he's not focused on running a campaign so you know he's easily manipulated person some of the most vicious attacks on trump and simultaneous support for the democrats come from top flight republican political strategists. george conway the husband of trump's advisor kelly conway is one of the founders of the lincoln project the conway couple is symbolic of how trump is dividing america's conservatives the republican party is
4:21 pm
comprised today is infected by the virus of donald trump i don't think there's any saving it they don't want to be saved they don't want to walk away from trump and trump is i'm so i think the republican party is effectively dead bryan mcgrath still has hope for a post trump era in which republicans examine their conscience and renew themselves as a party donald trump connected with a lot of dark parts of people's hearts in this country i didn't think it was possible that it could happen so quickly but it did i'm hoping that his performance . turns enough people against his approach so that we can get on with the business of trying to be a trusted. force for good in the world to that end in november he'll do the unthinkable and vote for democrat joe biden but in 2024 he wants to see a conservative candidate he can be proud of. here now some more stories making news around the world. 2 women have been injured one of them seriously while swimming
