people. information. we want to express. on facebook and twitter facebook today in touch follow us on. the clock is ticking to american companies are now in the running to buy chinese social media giant to take talk they're hoping to seal a deal before u.s. president donald trump follows through on a threat to bomb the company but could microsoft size prove too much of a challenge to a rival bit from twitter. also coming up there billionaire boss gets richer
11:17 pm
while they toil during a contract make amazon employees toss on presents take to the streets to demand their. pays more time. this is the business i'm paid for it isn't thanks for joining me u.s. president donald trump has threatened to banus 2 american tech giants want to buy it as chinese own video sharing platform tiktaalik faces increasing scrutiny in the united states u.s. tech conglomerate microsoft remains the front runner to acquire its american operations but not twitter has entered the game to holding talks with tech talk with a view to the same sale it's unclear if twitter could add big microsoft but some analysts say the company could face less right to free examination for more i'm joined by alison stewart allen from international marketing partners in london alison good to talk to you just twitter i have a chance of getting microsoft for to talk to us operations well believe it or
11:18 pm
not i think twitter actually does have a good chance i think one of the things that twitter is a very hungry for is access to more video content but also to capture a market which will be children those sort of between ages $5.15 who traditionally used twitter to really know where twitter aren't engaged with it of course children that age very often already gauge with microsoft through p.c.'s now with home schooling lots of software applications in the office package are accessed but frankly for twitter this could be a huge win. ok so we have 2 major companies in the running here but why do you would potentially face less regulatory scrutiny than microsoft. a couple of reasons number one the size of twitter you know it's a 20 to 29000000000 dollar company not that that's small by any measure but
11:19 pm
compared to microsoft it's a tiny little irritant in terms of microsoft you know the latest valuations have at somewhere around $1.00 trillion dollars so you're talking about you know $56.00 times the size of twitter and when you have a company that's that big of course it gets a lot of attention from regulators and a lot of other bodies that are concerned about ownership of and controlling up a number of social media and computer programs of interface interfaces whereas with twitter because it's relatively speaking smaller it probably would therefore have less scrutiny because of its size and for those who might not be so familiar with take top how valuable an acquisition would it be. well i think it would be fantastically valuable from twitter's perspective because it
11:20 pm
hasn't traditionally had access to this younger group of customers but the more important thing is it would get data which is the lifeblood of twitter and also show media outlets for that matter it would get data about children now there's an ethical question here which the regulators no doubt will want to look into but the other thing it would get in acquiring to talk because to talk is traditionally in its short life focused on younger people is it would get a slew of advertisers that also want to capture that maybe 5 to 15 year old target market where historically twitter has not really had those companies spending their advertising dollars or euros with them for that group so it supposes twitter to a wider group of advertisers which has to be a good thing in volatile economic times like we're in right now some huge growth

potential alison stewart allan thanks for speaking to us. these are tough times for businesses but not everyone is suffering the value of some of america's biggest companies including ours on has actually surged during the crisis that's prompted the ire of employees who say their boss should be paying a far more tax. protesters marching in front of the new york city home of amazon boss jeff bezos they want the billionaires and other rich americans to pay more in taxes and for amazon to treat its employees better is specially at a time where the e-commerce companies as well as other tech giants such as facebook and google have profited enormously from the coronavirus pandemic. to attack me on that one me the attacks yet require not yet but to wrap this up. all of them are being used in the not being terms what i wanted to. tell me we had it right.
11:22 pm
we have no use that we're giving it building and making money for or not be taxed or you're getting tax cuts you can set it to get tax breaks. and that was enough we just started to have a well tax bill that's in place for the workers for the people of this country. many amazon employees feel exploited the company nearly doubled its profit in the 2nd quarter to 5 point 2000000000 dollars but this is not benefited the workers on the contrary those who protest the poor working conditions are fired like chris small who says he has nothing left to lose. that's bring in business correspondent and squatter in new york now yes many as of americans are really struggling right now as they wait on the next set of stimulus measures from the government u.s. president donald trump did sign some executive orders over the weekend what were they and what's the reaction been. i mean the spec it clearly is smaller than what
11:23 pm
congress had discussed and failed on if donald trump wanted new money he needs the permission from congress so he had to take money from already existing funds so one of the centerpieces is weekly unemployment aid in the amount of 400 dollars 25 percent of that extra lee should come from us states it is unclear if that really is going to happen maybe we might see even some legal challenges to the order from the u.s. president and if you look at reactions well at least wall street was up here on monday blue chips are gaining about 360 points but i'm not sure if that's true of this aid package or the order from the president. then meanwhile as we saw in that report there some of the biggest u.s. companies have been posting massive profits how has that been going down and what the american public. it's
11:24 pm
a huge outrage here in the united states just look what happened in the past couple of months with politicians like bernie sanders or also elizabeth warren calling for much higher taxes bernie sanders actually just this weekend was looking for make the millionaire pay. and if you look what happened in the past couple of months the $600.00 richest americans just during the pandemic so far increased their wealth by $700000000000.00 maybe even some bankers like jamie dimon for example the head of the biggest u.s. bank here in the united states if you morgan you're saying that inequality came to a degree where it's really problematic so you have americans you have politicians and you also even have people on wall street crying for change. so the gap is widening in scott 8 in new york thanks for talking to us. chairman biotech firm

11:26 pm
as high as 20000 australian dollars. melbourne home to 5000000 people feels empty all non-essential stores have been forced to close and even essential businesses such as meat packing have been ordered to reduce the number of stuff working at one time there's also unlikely curfew from 8 pm to 5 am melbourne is experiencing some of the toughest restrictions in the world. place rules are there for all of us and now a victorian has the right to be out with. something that no one else is allowed to do you gotta follow those rules they're incredibly important. central to the strategy working drawing down movement driving their numbers and then getting to the other sort of the 2nd wife this is illegal people who don't wear their masks are getting arrested as are those who refuse to move along the mayor of melbourne revealed that 15 percent of businesses surveyed said they may never open again
11:27 pm
after the stroke only in lockdown. and that's raising fears that hundreds of thousands of jobs could be lost here. donald's former c.e.o. steve easterbrook is being sued by his old employer for allegedly hiding details about the kinds of relationships the hard with his employees he left the company last year with compensation of thought to be worth tens of millions of dollars now mcdonalds wants the money back accusing easterbrook of approving stock grants for $1.00 of 3 employees he had a sexual relationship with the move follows a fresh probe conducted by an extra law firm. and that's all we have time for thanks so much for watching.
