and its presenter rachel will be here to talk about that new me the germans instagram travel. but for us live cultural events around the world have been devastated by the coronavirus this city berlin is world famous for its tech now clubs where the music and dancing stopped abruptly in march but artists always advantage for now even music has to go over the rooftops of this city from one of its most revered music. summer in berlin kovac 1000 put the brakes on the city now cultural life is gradually steering again but under strict regulations in movie theaters. and museums. the pandemic has also prompted germany's principal cultural institutions to try a new path of depression cultural heritage foundation has for the very 1st time open the rooftops of the boat and museum and if they do expand a church for

a project together with berlin club. d.j.'s play their sets against a backdrop of historical treasures. event organizer and co initiator mightiest 2nd at the concept of a series of videos for digital platforms. this is absolutely an attempt to launch something new in the midst of the corona lockdown at present the agency is making a 0 revenues but still has monthly expenses so of course we hope these productions will eventually bring something in so we can make ends meet. lives nightlife has been especially hard hit except for open air events pubs and bars are allowed to reopen now but the clubs have been under lockdown since mid march no concerts no dancing no all night partying.

even so for now streams are helping performers establish a presence and keeping the clubs afloat. now that crowd funding the united we stream project is networked the world over from detroit to singapore over $1500.00 performances have been staged in 4 months. clubs have made up an essential part of its cultural life since the night in the ninety's and now their survival is at stake. around us there's a lot of despair that's true but we're event managers who are the ones who keep the creativity flowing and assess it he is often the mother of invention of course we won't know till much later if what we come up with now is just as good or as profitable but it will be something new about what the north and stand. for now hopes are for a long warm summer allowing for a lot so this in the open air. more

sounds now but also for the postes well so are so many museums are struggling the good news is this new one is expanding as it's actually online an enterprising young guy here in germany is collecting sounds that have disappeared from our lives and uploading them onto the website can serve the sign. i. the sounds of times gone by i remember them. this man laughs. when i meet on the x. in my project just conserve the sound and on my museum for vanishing sounds. he's already collected about $120.00 from the clatter of a slide projector to the widow of a pony boy it's. the archive keeps growing all the time because all kinds of sounds
6:49 pm
not disappearing from our lives. i am dixon. time job is in communication design he keeps some collector's items in his office the mentos that sounds passed . close and true classic which you also find on our website is this rotary dial telephone. the 1st pick up the receiver. yeah some generations later it's a great little mobile phone. it's much less noisy there are some tiny sounds if you listen carefully. later still became entirely silent with the 1st smartphones where you swipe and silence. just getting confused but. after a little post production the new recordings from the fairground museum appear on
6:50 pm
the concern of the sound website it's not a money making enterprise but gets funding from the state and it could go on forever. and there are loads more sounds you could look for and find. it's a lifelong venture. actually a project to keep going for as long as there are humans producing sounds. sounding deep and wonderful the past in the present and for half. the job of its present. will join me in a minute to talk about that. new beat the germans. but 1st the germans. and also showing off a new talent of. in
6:51 pm
another country as the new kid on the block of course you're going to feel. the official definition. of the anxiety that results from using off the media signs and symbols of social intercourse it was $260.00. because i want to think of germany with the name now just touched down back to british ground and i'm thinking why am i a bit german you know even now i should enjoy the freedom while a cab i just can't go and there's nobody. to walk in there anywhere and play with their fish and chips off curry fish and chips or curry i burned it on my home when it comes to germany and of course the i very. good point and how do i know him people like say somebody brothers great i'm not of like. say oh sorry i'm all i can say not. perhaps the biggest fans a new line i'm going on the refrain i love to be in the nation chips off curry fish
6:52 pm
and chips all curry. the germans in britain got plenty in common anyway right we're very similar in that with family orientated it's a work ethic they seem to teach very connected history if you believe so much of the sense of humor so things are not. something they don't question but very nice people told the celebrations german troops are are different. people in germany were a lot more straightforward the germans get quite upset because most british people are very i'm to write when you're in a small program i think i'm quite liberal much later on mentioned. a sensitive. fish and chips. fish and chips so i carried visions it. better present the republic but when you see them all forgetting you realize it comes with just another way of living about less in your own culture with both
6:53 pm
sides right like a final thought from me and jemma. fish and chips and current fish and chips and connery. rachel george great show for you yeah. fish and chips or curry or if it was on the menu i'd probably still be a fish and chips i must say but if i'm going to go into the metaphorical level i'd like to say that i'm probably a little bit of both now and i think like i said in the video that's what i like about when you meet someone you kind of bring a bit of your own culture with you but you're also adopting aspects of the new culture. say you still have fish and chips a show that. is incredibly popular why do you think it works
6:54 pm
i think probably the main thing is the mixture of information and entertainment that we bring so we have a lot of fun making it and i think people look at the jokes that are making with them but also we cram a lot of information into really short videos and i think also my favorite thing about doing the show was that i got to kind of act as a bit of a go between so i'm explaining the german culture to people who might not necessarily know that much about it but i'm also telling the people who grew up germans what's actually particularly interesting or confusing to newcomers so i think you got a bit of both perspectives but somewhere along the line you're going to run should be you might think actually the list is still very long and in fact we've decided now to start an instagram channel because we have so much to talk about and now this way we can bring our followers something every single day from every single day ok let's have a look little a little taste of the instagram. i want to. get with my
6:55 pm
group a couple of weeks ago you have. a general must wonder why we go on about the supermarket so much is a bit of a planet with something other than you can you really can feel like. we find new things can be different maybe because it's going to mean different places where you do you might know the word in german and maybe it doesn't even exist here so this is an example of you know i took the view as along with me to the supermarket which is a place that can be quite daunting for a newcomer and then we asked them to tell us what kind of things they maybe not been able to find in the supermarket or which german products have been open up to find when they've been abroad we got some really good responses from people and i think i think actually the baking aisle is the most confusing place for people here because baking bread is terribly coarse and greedy tell you have to say that. the germans but this is kind of interactive yeah very much so so what we loved
6:56 pm
about instagram was that we can really start to build a bit of a community you know and we'll be bringing all sorts of different topics so we're bringing things in the form of a quiz and we might be doing interviews and introducing people to germans that they might have heard of because oracle figures but also everyday germans on the ground people they might know of thought about for one of my so important things about social media a great advantage we have now with instagram is the we can be very up to date and we can try and bring live aspects of what was going on in germany right now or say i was going to say that and you can actually be you actually do stuff law i. live that's the idea i would like to invite people to come along with us to places to events and also just to give up to date sort of an update on what's going on in germany right now so for example what's the biggest topic around the globe right now is obviously coronavirus and we get sent a lot of questions people are very interested in how germany is dealing with the current so i wouldn't stick around we can go into
6:57 pm
a story and tell people what's happening right now right chill as always thank you very much for coming in and keep those law thing as you always very it's very much . for today but by the way you are just want to say. check out it's a grab every day a t.w. underscore will make the job and so it doesn't broaden but anyway i'm a poet and i didn't know it rachel's but specified i felt like i was back up to fuck fuck off it's.
