edition of your romance with me your host meghan lee here's a look at what else we've got in store for you today. passing meeting underwater museum is a great new attraction in greece. and of finished for charters for connects with nature for her mystical shop. it's the october fest season and each year munich normally welcomes more than $6000000.00 locals and tourists alike for the world's biggest a beer festival but this year it is not happening due to the coronavirus pandemic however there is still an alternative on offer now we were on location in munich last weekend to enjoy the festivities there before the social distancing laws were further tightened well despite everything people are still dressing up for the occasion and women like me. are wearing like this one cheers.
7:32 pm
farewells and welcome to munich germany. the october fest in the varian state capital scheme is the world over. so what happens when it's impossible to host in 2020 due to the corona virus pandemic city officials were forced to cancel the october fest this year the locals are still celebrating but on a much smaller scale this year. over 50 restaurants and taverns in munich came together this year to plan an alternative to the october best they call it the viertel species and or tavern bees and visitors can head to individual venues across the city to drink their big beers to dance and to eat typical october 1st food all observing social distancing and wearing face masks. and many people are still wearing their no or later husband and this year m f 2 but as
7:33 pm
a big fan of the october fest my so i'm wondering if this year can really measure up to the real thing so let's go check it out. one put it to get an october 1st beer and one of the most famous curries for a house this year they will tap their 1st cake exactly 12 noon in the brewery not in the beer tent. as always the specially brewed october best beer is on tap but i'm wondering if the people here are missing the traditional event. you just can't do entirely without october fest of course you have to stick to all the safety measures and be considerate but i think a little celebration is right and allowed. this alternative festival is only a reminder of the original we want to honor october past as an event this can be a substitute nor should it be me.
7:34 pm
so the beer is great as always and the people are super nice but i must say what i am missing about the regular october fest is sitting at a people people that you haven't met before everyone here had to reserve their tables at a time to have them so i am missing a little bit of that making friends by the end of the day feeling of the regular over that. next up i'm headed to munich famous marienplatz to get a taste of my favorite october fest food at a nearly 150 year old restaurant called the ruts cola. this is one of the many locations which are trying to keep the spirit and traditions of october festival live this year. i ordered a shrine tax the oven roasted pork knuckle is a true october fest classic. that's really good. except my favorite i've never been good in the case of the

festival but i have to say this i think it's really nice that you were going to have this but i really. think i'm pro that every hour but i will say that you don't know. maybe i will feel the october 1st spirit a little more if i can find some more people in there later hosen let's go check it out. i'm happily surprised to see how many people are dressed up this year even with no october 1st taking place i'm wondering why is it still important to them. i think traditional costume is part of being a barbarian why shouldn't we wear traditional cost as a woman you're always properly dressed in a dirndl. group. so things certainly look a little bit different in munich this year but i have to say i really admire the people here for being able to carry on their tradition safely it's been so much fun and i hope that we can revisit the world's most famous beer festival again next year service and.
7:36 pm
next up an adventure in greece normally the country's antiquity use are held in its numerous museums but now some can be admired in the deep blue sea a shipwreck with a trove of precious items has open to visitors now you won't have to worry about social distancing here but you will need to know how to dive. many ancient greek treasures are found not on land but under the sea. the country's 1st underwater museum has opened near the island of aloni so's in the northern gnc. diving instructor is yana young is the guide for the underwater tours. i'm a diving instructor

a work in the diving instances 5 years. 7 mazing for me that i can take people they don't let them know and out that word and this basically now that we have to be on that world in museums. around 4000 ancient 40 lie on the seabed between the islands of a petty status. when examining them but most caution is needed. i want to make a bit more cautious about the limitations that we have so we can make sure that we have these moments whatever so we have to keep. minimum distance of one meter enough. both and the unseen quake. tourists have around 40 minutes to view the underwater museum about 28 meters down
7:38 pm
lies an ancient shipwreck nothing remains of the wooden hall only its cargo can still be seen one m. 40. it's thought to have been a merchant ship that sailed from athens 2500 years ago the story goes that for unknown reasons it caught fire and sank down to the bottom of the sea. it's an impressive site for the tourists. going to the museums you always have these signs complex with explanations and we have them here too it's funny to see so many. similarities to a conventional museum even though we're in a totally different environment it's really incredible. the signs explain the various styles of emporia recognizable by their shapes. a lonely sos is hoping the underwater museum will bring more visitors to this previously little known island. the french tourists are certainly impressed.
7:39 pm
because we've had the good fortune to have gone diving all around the world in asia africa south america and the caribbean this vacation is a family project and when we found out you can dive down to a 2500 year old record we booked immediately i mean it's an incredible experience but also on call you. after nearly 3 quarters of an hour tour guide it ya-ya lamont gives the signal to circus. city it was really planned task i wasn't expecting it at all it's a bit like taking a time machine. but greek waters are rich in historical treasures we just have them up and looks in it it would be wonderful if there were other museums of this kind so we'd get a better picture of how the ancient greeks lived 2500 years ago but if you take.
7:40 pm
the residence of a lonely so sorry also impressed by their new attraction. that truth about being nice is mayor of the island. and now he's an avid diver as well. of the slope as mayor i have to step up and set a good example. of why it was important to me to be able to dive here and see the shipwreck for myself with whatever you have to. for those who don't wish to dive there's also a museum on the island here you can see reconstructions photos and videos of the underwater treasures a model reveals that the emporia still cover the outlines of the ship and with the help of virtual reality headset visitors can explore the seabed from dry land. diving into the history of ancient greece and entices idea.

what's the best way to combine a fresh air a bird's eye view and good food well a hot air balloon ride with gourmet dishes on board i discovered this combination recently in the netherlands their chef angelica fun cool the air offers her guests an evening of fine dining at high altitudes now if you're afraid of heights then this may not be for you but i overcame my fears for a 3 course meal up and this guy. i'm in a hot air balloon over the dutch countryside but this isn't an ordinary ride here guests are offered a cohen area experience. you've heard of diving but what about dining i am about to embark on such an adventure. ship angelica might check some of the items she'll be using for cooking so these are special developed baskets. for

and job becomes a small space on the side of the balloon to cook and prepare the food as i watch or i can't help but wonder one thing we need to experience a person who would serve in a restaurant yes but i could tell you this is the restaurant the most wonderful view where there is the biggest challenge cooking up here the time. to support the time timing is a challenge because i have to listen to the chief pilots here because we depend on the. everything is going so well you never know lord events brings us and we need to go. before the sun goes down into lakes mine has been combining ballooning in dining for 17 years she's one of 2 master female shops in the netherlands so we're about to have the 1st course. the 1st course is 2 parts

it's the caramelized carriage with the hair uncovered and the current should be in some flowers this for you. very savory q so it is not every day that you get to eat in the world's only hot air balloon restaurant we're cruising now at about $500.00 metres above ground and angelica is going to be serving up a 3 course meal and of course everything is very well prepared in advance preparation is certainly the key. and julie brings down the cooking containers that were simmering inside the hot air balloon the emphasis here is on slow cooking. so. very very often and the slow to cooking means that all the deuce and all the texture stays in the face. this is the sound of feeling with roasted red pepper in the body of a sauce. like this basket is 3 metres long by one metre

60 wide so there is plenty of space you could even lie down and he wanted to but it has room for up to 9 people so i am definitely not alone here. all. the custom built counter above the basket gives the chef extra cooking space it's compact yet well equipped has anything ever gone wrong or fallen overboard no no not at all. maybe a towel storm from the so that's from this government flight cost 415 year olds per person. once the final course is served there's time to take in the sunset but this also means that we will be landing so. look out for lending support to leave like you know the 15 minutes and. then the

a so-called frozen conflict that remains unresolved for decades later in july hostilities flared up again 16 people were killed in the fighting the conflict has international ramifications turkey has expressed its support of azerbaijan while russia has provided armenia with military equipment. while world leaders are calling for a deescalation it seems on the ground the warring sides are fanning the flames off their frozen conflict. for more let's speak to roman gunter franco from russian department could see there i mean this has been a long running conflict between armenia and azerbaijan for decades long to be expect it to be exactly what sparked the fighting this time. we do not snow for sure because there is no independent verification on the ground what exactly has happened on the sunday morning so we can only assume that maybe it's what went on on the on which side we don't know someone decided to use the

international situation rather on the conflicts and the international attention was drawn to them to try to maybe gain ground or try to push this country one i would say is that as ever john showed signs of growing frustration which discount like not being a result for decades you must understand azerbaijan is much stronger than i mean it's bigger it's has no money is military power so the president always about john made some remarks in germany however i saw him in your neck of the security conference saying that he doesn't want any compromise but if he spoke to the prime minister i mean you know question on who suggested to negotiate but as a by john was not willing to yield so we've compromise is not looking likely is could there be another return to war on the cards from. well we already have

some kind of world low intensity of war on the border which is probably the biggest . since since in 1904 i do not think we will see a full scale war just like 30 years ago because russia a very important player is supporting armenia russia has a military base in armenia and i do not saying that russia will just watch those 2 countries go to war. we will also have we are also having turkey which is very very loud in supporting azerbaijan but i still do not think that we will see a full 'd scale war at this moment but this is a very very long conflict which started hundreds of years ago and basically it is a land and lot if you want conflict which which is very difficult stories old. from day doubling his russian department think and to think with you thank you. to

join protest is the report on this march today it seemed like maybe this was going to be a bit of a damp squib you saw people looking around at each other wondering whether this would be the weekend these protests basically fizzled out but that wasn't the case the route was a bit different police as always making it difficult for justice to come out of town so once they'd found their way to each other because of the internet is also severely blocked year on these protests somebody to be able to communicate once they have found to that the crowd was bigger and bigger than last week a sense that perhaps this inauguration had really angered the russian so she said they were willing to come out and risk arrest. and this kind of weather and given that people are braving this weather to turn out to turn out on the streets we mentioned earlier that it was. a symbolic inauguration day given that the crowds don't seem to be dampened yet is it safe to say that she does have. a lot of

support still. she definitely is someone that lets people identify with. today's. protest is wearing a burger king and restaurant crowns as a joke as a kind of sign of. how they react to. last week i think the bigger picture is that she was always someone who was just a transitional figure she said that she is not a politician she. husband who. was put in prison by the regime here and she is someone who would allow elections fresh elections fair elections to happen and to pave the way for transition but someone who is supported by many but not the only and the kind of unique leader of these protests these person we need a single leader these people organizing themselves without a party hierarchy without anyone telling what to do this is much broader than that . and so given that these there is no single leader within what's the likelihood
8:10 pm
that these protests will continue in the strength that they have gone the last 15 days. i'm kind of missing my crystal ball right now it's very difficult every time that these protests seem to be reducing in size then the belorussians come and surprise us every time the police comes in and makes mass arrests it seems like the next week there are more people out on the streets i think alexander lukashenko has no idea what this is going off 26 years in power and in his 6 after that integration last week the secret inauguration in which he didn't even have any russian gas level international gas at that event i think for now it seems that the regime does have some stability so reserves or civility the security services are still open now but you know this massive police presence is costing them huge amounts of money choice and keep those people and other hand the protest to show no real sign of being intimidated by anything the government could throw at them and for now when you talk and they say we we we're tired of being afraid we are not going to go back to sitting home and keeping quiet nick connelly in minsk thank you

related to data. i will put my mood into the app now and that's a joyous because i get to see my colleagues the wristband wanted to some biometric data on my blood pressure for example and translates them into emotional pedants i will recognize them when i'm joyous in the future. i don't know how precise these measurements are but on the basis of my responses to questions about concrete situations be able to propose certain mindfulness exercises there are all kinds of variables such as these on the market now some claim that they can recognize or use emotions through there was others detect and measure brain activity all these headbands wristbands readings measure physical data and give advice on how to improve mental health some even say that they can help people to overcome depression but you did most of have some warning worse in this regard. we should remember that we should never transfer responsibility for our own life and psychological wellbeing or health to

a digital app it can be helpful to use them but it's very important not to use them responsibly and to be aware of the risks that afflict. after work i like to switch off and this muse had been says it can help according to the makers it uses 7 senses to detect the brain's electrical activity which it then transforms into understandable experiences so the user can wind down and meditate if i'm not calm i will hear sounds of a storm which will remind me to concentrate on my breathing if i'm feeling calm i will heal. i can hear some very light rain and some wind. and from time to time this is the way that indicates that i'm really relaxed right now over. what i'm talking when it's getting heavy on the way in favor of being true so i think a bit of concentrated. i

would say the. a new trick is going to help people to go about their everyday life in a more mindful way but it is important to not relinquish full control and to not take them and the exercises they prescribe too seriously i doubt that such gadgets can really have users with serious mental health issues for now people can still decide themselves whether they want to use these quantified self apps and devices but what if they didn't have a choice what if their employers ordered them to use a more tracker. lots of work multitasking and difficult exercise is this is daily life that tiny a start up based in munich the founders vision of the future is one where employees only receive as much work as they can actually carry out the idea is that software should a lot their workload automatically so that the software can do this please have to wear a device that measures the polls all the time and there's a camera there films their faces the idea is to measure their stress levels and

emotional states and then their workload can be calculated mio is one of the developers he says he's not interested in surveillance or storing data but in flow . is its will this can be described as the perfect state between the feeling of being under challenge to the board and the opposite which is being stressed in that place in between when someone is challenged can cope with the task in hand is flight flow. but do we really want a world in which software can get such a deep insight into an employee's emotional state the absolute select from the german research center for artificial intelligence things not. don't want a situation in which such software leads to the surveillance of employees with the result that someone might be fired if they don't perform adequately or if they're going through a rough patch personally and the system detects that it's with subsequent negative

consequences. this has to be prevented. at this munich startup employees have to actively agree to be tracked but will this always be the case these systems force people to share intimate information how is the data used and by whom. of course apps must collect data to quantify progress for example in health related research apple has collaborated with academics and published a variety of studies based on data collected by volunteers and this model watches that might sound like a win win situation but i'm not so sure about giving that much personal information to a private company. health trackers collected data when users are sleeping eating and exercising but they also gather other information for example regarding location users often have no idea what is done with their data benedict book now is a lawyer who says the terms of use are frequently formulated in

a very vague way. many companies are just connecting information and don't even know what they want to do with it but sooner or later there will be some kind of commercial use for the data right now data is already being sold for targeted advertising to certain groups and individuals health insurance companies are also very interested in such data some of them are already offering cheaper rates to policyholders who agree to track their own health related data the system for this is great for those who are healthy it's not so great for those who are not in the end it leads to people being selected according to their risks to the. user should think very carefully about the amount of personal information they're willing to divulge to some shops data protection is obviously a big issue but do the apps even do what they say they will there are all kinds of new fitness apps and gadgets flooding the market they're supposed to encourage us

to exercise more without a trainer but do they really work. defense version of there is a wealth of research into the question of whether it makes a difference if a person uses an app and tracks their activity or not and so far what it's showing is that it makes a huge difference to people's motivation many are more likely to commit themselves to their health and stick to it if they track their activity and see visible progress but it is not yet been proven that this actually makes an impact on health and whether users really do more exercise we just don't know that yet. in addition some fitness apps can actually increase the risk of physical damage artificial intelligence and instructions ideas can help people tailor physical activity to their own needs so that people are more likely to hurt themselves if they do the exercises wrongly and can't ask a real life instructor for advice. if the user wants to do

something right there is a lot of work involved and good trainer will have a certain experience that i'm. trainers made of flesh and blood still have an important role to play. and that doesn't just go for fitness apps even small devices can have huge drawbacks a friend of mine wanted to track all the stations obviously to optimize his sleeping pattern but he got sore stressed out by the whole process that in the end he couldn't sleep at all and that might be helpful for some but not for others it's very important to find the one that's right for you this is what the expert says you don't mention is that an individual or person is unique and not even the best can map all the highly individualized elements that make a person and help them to develop an app make suggestions based on the aggregated

data so it can never be tailored precisely to just one individual basically no user should ever follow is just blindly but always ask whether it really makes sense for them personally. however for a person in crisis any kind of support is better than none at all so even if it would make more sense to talk to a professional and out with at least give an indication of the direction somebody wants to move in and how they might want to develop so i would say use the apps but make sure you always question their advice. about. hard. what about you have you used fitness apps and have they helped you reach your goals. on social media on w dot com if you want to find out more about these gadgets check out our you tube channel for now and.
