grateful to the coronavirus pandemic. back on to do business i want to get jones in berlin good to have you with us the u.s. economy desperately needs a new stimulus package as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc but with a presidential election week weeks away the parties are divided amid political wrangling and last week president to donald trump called off the negotiations on sunday now u.s. treasury secretary steven menuhin proposed that $175000000000.00 in unspent 8 to small businesses be released immediately to east the stalemate the argument of the total package is much bigger though the democrats want a plan worth more than 2 trillion dollars so far republicans have not gone past 1.8 trillion. 1000000000 trillion chelsea delaney our financial correspondent in frankfurt can probably. make sense of that so the democrats when

will the 2 trillion dollars trump has offered $1.00 trillion before basically saying no and now we hear the stigma nugent suggest a mere 230000000000 dollars to support smaller businesses the longer they talk the list money is on the table right well this is really the key question now is that is there enough political support to get through a broad stimulus package that is what democrats have been pushing for but over the past week since trump came back to the table we haven't really seen much progress on the overall negotiations last week we did hear from the trumpet ministration that they would like to put forward a proposal for about $1.00 trillion dollars that's getting much closer to the $2.00 trillion dollars that democrats have pushed for but even over the weekend we've seen a lot of backlash from senate republicans so even this what with this white house proposal seems unlikely to pass and so that leaves democrats and republicans

looking more at these one off much smaller bills that would have a much smaller economic impact right and i mean we're talking about this stimulus because of the coronavirus pandemic of course and the virus is spreading fast not just in the u.s. but everywhere and it actually resurfaced in a chinese port city it has and i think this is really a wake up call to everyone that even in these places where we thought the virus was completely contained it can really pop up in unexpected ways and spread quite quickly we're seeing here in europe where the virus had been seemingly under control over the summer it's really were surfaced and hit new levels and many countries including germany and france this is likely going to lead to more and more restrictions which will make a much more difficult economic. future for many countries just from food thank you so much. now the coronavirus pandemic has forced

major changes in the way companies do business on the profiting from the crisis such as online retailers and delivery services others are struggling to survive or they're on the brink of bankruptcy the same thing goes for u.s. firms in germany the american chamber of commerce in germany did a survey which found that inspiring 82 percent of u.s. companies still expect higher turnover in 2020 now by autumn this upbeat outlook has dropped to 22 percent the same thing with investment in spring 58 percent of u.s. firms also wanted to invest war now 6 months later it's only 70 percent well after all most companies are still cautious and prefer to wait and see how the coronavirus situation develops and who could blame them now any i talked to the president of the american chamber of commerce in germany frank sporter laurie and i asked him how he would describe the state of economic relations between germany and

losers of this pandemic what's your survey telling us about those. well the service speaks there are pretty clear language. i think it kind of summed up with the fact that amazon now has overtaken ford to become the largest american company in germany in terms of top line revenue we know the auto industry even last year was suffering a little in this year obviously it's been very difficult the companies that are doing the things like the just sticks online retail pharmaceuticals those come in so doing well a lot of other companies. are struggling and the combination of that has led to a slower growth rate than in previous years but our members are optimistic. and i mean how is the ongoing us china trade war impacting if it all u.s. german relations that's an interesting question because we get 2 different
10:37 am
answers on that if i ask the u.s. companies that are members all of them will say oh you know it's led to a few different decisions not major but many of them have said we've adjusted some things we're doing some things differently german companies have said no it does not yet impact them in a real material 'd way having said that it's a continual topic of discussion and concern among both u.s. and german companies u.s. companies are afraid you know of their supply chains of implications in the home market german companies are afraid of being stuck between the 2 warring giants speak. and just very briefly looking ahead to the upcoming u.s. presidential election will that influence u.s. german trade relations of business relations. well 1st i'd like to point out we're

not at all a political organization strictly commerce but we do poll our members on that topic the overwhelming majority of them say that the outcome of the elections will have a significant impact and the vast majority also feel that a change of administration would be good for transatlantic business in general we're still trying to figure out a little bit which way professor president biden would go these various things some of which concern or some of which we find positive but either way we continue our work and i think the transatlantic relationship will continue on strumming alright well that's again good news there frank sparta laurie president of the american chamber of commerce in germany thank you so much for your time. now here's an example of an industry that's almost been saved by the pandemic china's gaming industry is booming again despite strict censorship roots until

we have not profited directly from the extra time spent online ordering the lot but we also know that this is not just about a lot on time when everybody is sitting at home are not people who had never played online games before i started playing. genocide war used to work in an architecture firm where he learned about ancient chinese would work taking his game is also in line with another trend in china's gaming industry stricter censorship laws have been targeting graphic violence sex and gambling but also what the government calls a wrong depiction of history the 5th great invention is one of just over $500.00 games that were licensed so far this year because it's celebration of traditional culture the company is on the winning side of history. i think those who feel that their business opportunities have been limited or their business model
