it's out there especially in the champions league was and that's why it's always about taking a long game as a time yes we have the bigger picture in our minds but the next game is always decisive. and china's a modest isp just makes the speed of politico not die out in the 2016 semifinals enough famously combative close they now boast the goals of luis suarez. suddenly champions league glory seems a long way away and. you're watching d.w. news business is next with monika thanks for watching. why are people forced to hide in trucks. there are many reasons. there are many cancers.

in a pandemic outfielders systems can keep the air indoors full grown or virus free. what comes to do the business i want to get germs and good to have you with us the united states to google i headed to court washington has filed an antitrust lawsuit against google accusing the company of illegally using its market power against its competitors the government says google has boards its a success by paying mobile phone makers and others to make it the default search engine google controls about 90 percent of global web searches it's the biggest challenge the u.s. has launched against the tech companies since a landmark case against microsoft and that was back in 1908. or for another story i'm joined by our financial correspondent chelsea delaney in frankfurt to chelsea good to have you with us what exactly is illegal about google's business model according to the government. there's no doubt
8:18 am
that google is the dominant name and search advertising that's really not disputed but what is illegal the government says about about this is the methods that google is using to maintain that monopoly and they really focused in on google's relationships with other companies for example the relationship it has with apple to be the main pre-dawn loaded search engine on all i phones they say that google pays about $10000000000.00 to have every year to have that relationship and they also looked at other contracts that google has with other businesses like samsung 800 t. in the way that they and some cases exclude these companies from working with any other search advertiser so they're saying that google it really is using its wealth using its power to exclude other search engine average search engine platforms from

having a shot at about the mark at no if is that was found to be true i mean what's google response to this lawsuit google has said repeatedly that they are not. abusing their power that that people want to use google that they have other options but it's really people's choice to to use the google search engine they also are this is going to be quite a difficult case for the united states though because usually in antitrust cases you have to show that consumers are being harmed financially that's quite difficult with it with the 3 search engines so it is a difficult legal challenge if google was to lose what would happen to the company . it would be very difficult for for google if they for example have to break up if they have to sell off parts of their business that would really be a last resort they could also be forced by the u.s. government to stop some of these exclusionary contracts but they clearly are facing

a wave of challenges around the world here in europe as well europe is really cracking down on big tax so there is certainly a lot of changes ahead for these companies in rochester delaine in frankfurt thank you so much of this. now you'll recognize this shares in the world's leading video streaming service netflix have split 6 percent that's after the company deliver its disappointing 3rd quarter results and that flick only picked up a relatively meager 2200000 of new subscribers in the july to september quarter and that's after a pandemic driven boom in the 1st half of the year when the service gained $26000000.00 new viewers is because netflix is so successful in its home market of the u.s. that this little room for its to grow there but the company isn't in trouble far from it nearly 6 and a half $1000000000.00 its 3rd quarter sales were slightly above analyst

expectations so streaming services belong to the winners of this pandemic but what about the industry that's actually producing all those films and series as i ask someone who should know the c.e.o. of constantine film martin. a very good morning to you good to have you with us let me let me start by asking i mean concent film obviously is well known as one of the the biggest international film production and distribution companies in the world it's based in in munich where you are how's business been this year so far. business is obviously challenging. but there are there are sort of we see the light at the end of the tunnel and for the 1st and then secondly also we think that that there are people are going to the movies at the moment but there are challenges obviously being that there is very very capacity at movie theaters currently and we
8:22 am
are we're hoping that this will improve over time there is a good part of it as well which is that there is very little competition because most big hollywood blockbusters have been pushed into next year so they are opportunities as well in this challenging situation ok but we'll of course we don't know how this challenging a situation will and major cinema changed in a while for once they've stopped or closed then you say in the us in the u.k. if all the chains were to follow suit how will that impact the industry. well obviously without theaters there is no theatrical movie business but of all the major studios production companies produce. films and t.v. shows for everybody else as well so there is alternative business to be made at that time secondly we see this as a temporary situation obviously the theaters will open up again and in
8:23 am
europe we have one big hit about it which is which is local content which means that we are actually we took a couple of our movies and pushed them into 2020 moving them from 2021 into this year because there is so little competition so there is little capacity there is the possibility also and people are going to the movies at the same time so we see not as a situation obviously everybody has to deal with condemning but we don't see it as a doomsday scenario all right well that's good to know certainly for all the film lovers out there we just had that netflix a disappointed in the last quarter but obviously it's one big play and not only since the since the pandemic for the movie industry for filmmaking is a streaming search and search engine sell on streaming platforms a blessing or
8:24 am
a curse. i think neither nor i mean basically you know the streaming services are just another platform to release films that we all are producing for streaming services we're releasing this year about 8 to 9 movies 2 of them straight to service the other 6. trickly. we think that it's less of additional platform to to do business with also i must say you know there is a certain uniqueness about the theater going experience which you cannot really to picket so i don't see them as competitors i think it as it actually has an additional way of reaching our customers or or customers that i want to see our product all right what last question briefly if you would we all hope the pandemic is over soon so looking into 2021 and beyond what will the film industry look like
8:25 am
. i think every pandemic basically just occurred this been demick accelerates a lot of things that have been happening anyhow so there will be a concentration on our big event movies for the theatrical releases there will be obviously there will be less. movies out there which is not of that think in general so we think that it's going to be that that the theater going experience is going to basically survive and probably even get better but on lesser films the majority of will go straight to service or straight to television but that's that something that has happened already in the years coming up to the mic so i don't think it really has is something that was surprising to see the street ok might in a most committed c.e.o. of constantine film still hopeful for the movie industry thank you so much for your

has 4000 employees worldwide like its competitors took seize the opportunity to meet the fast growing new demand for air filtration systems it now plans to ramp up production to $500.00 units per week we needed 2 months to develop a system normally our development times are much longer but it's made of components we already have on hand from other products we make. the air purifiers are being used in schools and public buildings there's even one in the north kitchen palace in months and the use it to purify the air in the palace restaurant. even during the summer season with all the beautiful days on the terrace and the beautiful weather we were thinking about what has to happen next no one really knew what was going to happen we still don't know so we started looking at all the technical possibilities. the restaurant owners counting on the heap of filters working as

promised he has to because he can't open the windows vista we're making investments so that our guests feel comfortable and they'll feel confident about our hygiene concept. still the air purifier is just the 1st step in getting the virus out of the air. it's a quick fix for using the risk of infection inside buildings in the long term we need and eric's change system which introduces fresh air into the room while removing some of the inside air. that would be even more sustainable like here. the long term solution is more complex and more expensive soap. that's a business update here on the w. from me in the team and thanks for watching.
