like the ventures. one. the preservation of our planet. it's not as if it's your garden trees and so you can't it's any more. because it's dangerous survive. trickle realizing there's a radically different way of. crossing. starts november 6th on t.w. . hello and welcome to focus on europe i'm liable lola it's great to be back here in europe with a coronavirus pandemic has again brought life in many places to a grinding halt spain is one of the worst affected countries and the government has
4:31 pm
declared a state of emergency for 6 months well that has led to outrage in some places like madrid where people rioted against the measures these include a nighttime curfew and in some areas the closure of restaurants bars and shopping malls well their anger is mixed with fear for those struggling to get by the future looks bleak residents in cities like barcelona were already struggling with unemployment and high rents since the economic crisis a decade ago and the pandemic has only exacerbated their worries grasso martinez is a bailiff who carries out evictions it's a job that can be both emotionally taxing and dangerous. really he's a bearer of bad news. we have a court warrant that will you open up. some martinez works in barcelona's last
4:32 pm
detail at area his job is to people the coronavirus pandemic is a busy time for him more and more people slip into poverty and can no longer pay their rent we have a court ruling you have to leave today. why were we told. leaf i'm here now you must have been given plenty of notice if you go to my father's i know. the owner of the apartment wants them out and he has the law on his side. i want the apartments back. for my son. so that he can live here. the locks are changed just straight away courts are cracking down especially on behalf of private owners when apartments belong to banks or companies decisions can take longer. our. landlord has the final say if he's willing to give them another
4:33 pm
2 days then that's what happens and if he wants them out today they're out it's up to him. as you go. down if the apartment was owned by a bank it would be one thing. when the owner is someone who worked for decades to buy property it's different. i have no sympathy for them. spain's housing problem is nothing new high rents low incomes during the financial crisis several years ago many people couldn't pay their mortgages and many homes were repulsed by banks now the pandemic has ushered in the next crisis. people who were struggling before are now at rock bottom they had brick areas work contracts and now they've lost their jobs so they stop paying their rent. the chronic housing crisis is on full display at his next appointment the building
4:34 pm
belongs to a bank it's now being occupied illegally calls for assistance. police back up illegal occupants aren't opening the door. we've been threatened with knives someone turned on the gas to try and cause an explosion or article it can get dangerous that's when we call in the police officer. poco knows a lot of the police officers well. how's it going the bad guy again. the police go in ahead to check the situation. one of the squatters is still there he's sick the others have fled to. be. fed up of living like this of course the father the mother i've lost everything
4:35 pm
. i'm on the side of justice there's always someone who gets the short end of the stick a lot but that's the way it is after all a judge has made a ruling that's the way the law is i don't have a guilty conscience or more god. this water won't leave so he's taken away. those seas a lot of misery in his job which makes him even more aware of how lucky he is the 52 year old lives with his partner in their own apartment and he is mortgage free. a few streets away he's called on 2 of the day young woman from the dominican republic who gave birth just 2 weeks ago. i'm not doing well where am i supposed to take my child. and a group of activists are here to support her all parco can do is try to get her more time everything depends on the landlord the woman's last hope is
4:36 pm
a phone conversation with him. you know the welfare system doesn't function right now. the only way to get another apartment would be. barricade yourself in the mayor's office if you. want the landlord agrees to let the woman stay another 6 weeks but after that she has to go situations like these still upset even after 12 years in the job. there have been many occasions when i've had to grit my teeth and get on with it if it were up to me i'd cave in on humanitarian grounds. but when you've been told you're being evicted 4 times and you haven't looked for a new home at some point you have to draw a line. pago has been called to 8 of the actions today in his district alone he knows that number will keep rising the longer the pandemic

continues. while the corona virus has put a financial strain on many people in russia a vaccine for covert 19 has arrived but there's a catch the vaccine has not been fully tested still russia's government is pushing for mass vaccinations and thanks to volunteers like sergei gatos this could soon become a reality or he is one of 40000 people who are about to trial the vaccine but the majority of russians are wary of signing up. the past months have been a struggle for photographer sergei cover us the studio was closed and jobs despond . to be sure the coronavirus wouldn't cause it any more trouble he wants protection i'm just now one of the 1st to test russia's vaccine. besides his studio photo shoots gover us works out what it was with large gatherings of people.
4:38 pm
relatives including older people come to the weddings from cities all over and i have a lot of contact with if i suddenly became a carrier it wouldn't be good i wouldn't want people to suffer because of me. mr. governess has no worries about the vaccine. and like this model all good posture. i want a vaccine to have been tested for several years and maybe then i'll be willing to get myself vaccinated i'm afraid of vaccinations in general and even more still of a corona virus vaccine which nobody understands anyway are you. sure you can be afraid but who else is supposed to test the vaccine for us. but he is one of 40000 people who are to test russia's 1st vaccine. production and shipping are already underway the vaccine has been approved even
4:39 pm
while the test phase the still progress doctors police officers and teachers are getting the 1st injections voluntarily it's been stressed president putin regards the vaccine as a matter of national prestige and he apparently wants russia's political elite to set an example. have you had yourself backs unaided. moscow's mayor has deputy prime minister tatiana going to cover as well you've already received the 2nd vaccination how do you feel it. another test subject this politician value only got tongue now in a video message he says he's contracted to covert 19 but rather than cast doubt on the vaccine the tongue suggests he was part of a control group every 4th subject received only victims so researchers can check the effectiveness. of selling the vaccine to other countries like syria and
4:40 pm
venezuela where the 1st delivery and arrived in the capital caracas infection researchers criticized the fact that the vaccine is being delivered before testing has been completed. i think it's the wrong policy a policy of reporting great successes where there are none this vaccine might in fact work but we don't know that yet because the testing has not been concluded. many russians share the skepticism the survey by an organization close to the government showed that 73 percent have no plans to get vaccinated yet moscow's mare who heads a commission to combat the coronavirus once things to move quickly. toward the end of the year will have enough vaccine to carry out a mass vaccination. i hope it happens. the manufacturer says that over 2 thirds of russia's population could be fascinated with the new year perhaps a vaccination stations like this one from the doctors and just ambulance are only
4:41 pm
given flu vaccinations no appointments needed and free of charge it only takes 10 minutes to coronavirus vaccine has to be specially cools which still poses a problem soon sergey gover us will be receiving his 2nd dose of the vaccine in a moscow clinic every day he protocols his state of health in an up signs of fever and other symptoms. as a test subject he hopes to hope the worlds get back to normal. credible much no more money i hope then we'll be able to deal with each other normally again and not be afraid of contact shake hands again and live normally that would be nice. but for now nobody can say exactly when that might be not even in russia. how do the terminally ill prepared to say goodbye to their lives and loved ones
4:42 pm
well for some it means visiting a special place just one last time but quite often they're not able to do so because of their physical condition or coronavirus restrictions well it's a year in that frank runs low knows 1st hand after his wife passed away he dedicated himself to granting dying people their last wish in the northern german town of engle he goes the extra mile in honor of his late wife. our task today is to pick up our passengers at the low end c.s. hospice and god that has a. frank fans low and his assistants are ready whenever a terminally ill person in northern germany would like to go for write letters or free of charge the stuff volunteers he has his own specially fitted ambulances their mission is to fulfill a dying person's last wish serve you know even has been a hospice for several weeks the 55 year old has turned cancer. the doctors say her

4:44 pm
there i certainly hope so. sylvia's chosen the church as their 1st stop. the attendants will throw the stretcher kerf lee over the cobbles. every bump is painful for the patient. sylvia with the church here when she was a little girl today the memories so how comforting you are yes i've decided that i'd like to be buried here as well. how fitting that. for many relatives a last journey like this is tougher to bear than it is for the dying person themselves. at 1st sylvia newman son says he feared the emotional stress of the trip. but now he was glad he came along. but now i can see what this is doing for her and how valuable our use moments are and that in the
4:45 pm
next days or maybe weeks however much time she's got left you shall draw strength from it that's important and beautiful city and the trip continues on a ferry across the faiza river. for sylvia but another childhood memory. she wants to see it's mostly waters one more time. from france alone reserved a special place for her with a view look there's a white house in the background on a short walls of the phaser follows in the middle of the waterway the ferries captain circles the boat a few times especially for some of you know him and. back outside the associations headquarters to nations and feeds from 1st aid courses that from venza oh and as colleagues offer paid for everything here. all the associations vehicles bear the name of fenceless late wife elizabeth. 6 years ago
4:46 pm
when she was dying of cancer she wanted to make one last trip to the north sea but fans low couldn't find an organization that could fulfill this final wish because health insurance wouldn't pay for it. or if we cannot offer our fellow human beings a last bit of humanity and kindness in their final hours for purely financial reasons then there's something terribly wrong in this country that was the last straw that's what a lot. since then vince love has organized hers like the one for so if you know him and. she wants to take another look at her grandparents owned neighborhood. watch her thoughts on the coming days. pretty relaxed i think you know i was back here again and that's really beautiful. and i look at the pictures again
4:47 pm
but there's something more. something poignant and deep. to turn lasts for hours then it's time to go back to the hospice from venza husband counted how many last wishes he's fulfilled he says as passengers shouldn't be reduced to statistics. then it's time to say farewell to the passenger. and like every time it's goodbye for good i just said goodbye and i said if we don't see each other here any more than someplace else what else can you say to people. the next morning then slow prepares for its next passenger. he doesn't want to arrive too late. i'm sure there are many families who are grateful for his service. they are the

largest demonstrations in poland in decades tens of thousands of people are protesting a court decision that bans nearly all abortions and they fear that the country is sliding further into autocratic hands as the ruling law and justice party pushes a conservative nationalist agenda olga sabbagh is expecting her 1st child and she is alarmed by the government's plans she says the protests as a fight for self autonomy in her country. these are some of the biggest protests in decades in poland. women and above all young people are demonstrating against the new extremely strict law on abortion. it would mean that in the future an abortion would be illegal in poland even if the fetus is so ill they would die at birth women feel deprived of their rights. the ship over here to show that we're strong
4:49 pm
and able to fight for our freedom and right to decide we don't want to be terrorized we want to have a choice i mean if you put your as an adult i'm simply ashamed i've been ashamed for several years already that i live in such a country i'm really mortified. that you know we're being stripped of our rights we've been abandoned and need to fight for all the women in poland that. is pregnant with her 1st child. she supports the demonstrators from home because of the coronavirus. with me but no i haven't been at any of the protests my husband and i wanted to go but the fact that i'm pregnant kept me from doing it finishing that used. and her husband artur are looking forward to the birth of their child they already know they're expecting a girl. and the doctors say she's healthy. but what if that weren't the case
4:50 pm
what if the fetus was terminally ill and unable to survive. if i found out now that the pregnancy was threatened or that something bad would happen to the child right after birth and then she would die and i'd still have to carry the baby to the end . i'd be able to feel the baby but i'd know that it would die that would be an inconceivable atrocity to the mother and the child who's going to die anyway. what really has all got upset is the timing. i'll be making a decision like this during a pandemic when you can actually predict people being opposed to it it's not the 1st time people have demonstrated against this the marcus. i the nationwide demonstrations involving hundreds of thousands of people are about far more than abortion laws they are protesting the right to self-determination and freedom in
4:51 pm
polish society that the abortion ruling was made by a government friendly constitutional court just adds insult to injury. the fine opposed to the ruling made by this fake court because i'm a woman and i have my rights group your family you know 3 of the vital knowledgeable people would you know if we want to live in a normal western society if we're fed up with a few 5 gentlemen running their lines for us on the here but you know. the protest in devoutly catholic poland is directed at the church as well demonstrators have interrupted masses the police have been brought in to protect the churches but ultra right nationalists are showing up as well spoiling for a fight there have been clashes. there has also been heated debate on abortion legislation in the polish parliament the same the deputy prime minister is demanding harsh measures be taken against the
4:52 pm
demonstration organizers during the pandemic. and i suppose in crowds of people to mortal danger of criminals just plain folks this is the 1st interview. but the intensity of the protests has apparently shaken the resolve of the policymakers president andre duda is proposing compromises to allow pregnancies to be terminated not only in cases of incest after rape or if the life of the mother is at risk. but many of the demonstrators say that's simply a poor compromise their continuing to protest here for example by blocking the streets opposition politicians are supporting them. it says if i steal a 100 from you and give you 50 back. despite all their joyful anticipation olga and her husband artur are left wondering about the rights women have in poland. i feel threatened because they feel my
4:53 pm
rights are endangered i'm no longer sure about my future here in this country. and it is this uncertainty that is placing a stressful burden on the mother to be. have you ever waited hours at a bus stop in the freezing cold well for young kids in rural sweden like the ones we're about to meet it comes with the territory but some have found an alternative means of transportation there is the ingenue it and a legal loophole they have found a way to drive on 4 wheels despite not being of age and their vehicles are quite special. they may look like they've got a lot of horsepower under the hood but far from it. despite the tricks none of these pick up trucks does more than 30 kilometers per hour that's why they're marked with a big triangle above the rear bumper for young people in rural areas here in sweden there are a huge trend that's because you can drive
4:54 pm
a so-called epa tractor from age 15 with a moped license. your boy i live in the country i can use it to get to school and they're a nice way to get together and hang out it's fun. also be home by drivers who are about the same age or in a snap chat group together we write to each other and see where everyone is. air fresheners stereo systems all for cars with a top speed of 30 that are really tractors by long the vehicles 1st came about when people in rural sweden started converting old cars into farm vehicles they were used to pull trailers through the fields they only had space for 2 people. you take the rear part and move it forward. so you end up with a space for transporting stuff. that would last you know last like i used to be used in the fields. that's where the farmers could learn things.
4:55 pm
today the pickups or have become the hobby for young people in the countryside and they're also a way to gain some independence according to 15 year old john who owns 3 of them this one hasn't been approved for the road because a cable in the control system could be manipulated. so 3100 switches of the inspection the authorities had a problem with this cable. needs to be more securely installed. it can cost up to $10000.00 euros to convert an old swedish car into a fashionable pickup truck for a 15 year old but it's better than waiting ages for the bus or riding a moped in the freezing winter and besides the meet ups are a great excuse for a party. a steep price for a slow car but it looks like fun thanks so much for watching focus on europe and do

any. this is detail the news learned from but many of votes in the u.s. election are still being counted but joe biden is feeling confident. i'm not here that we want. but i am here to report the count is finished we believe he will be the winner. from supporters protests the vote counts as his campaign mounts legal challenges in several crucial swing states.
5:01 pm
i'm phil gail welcome to the program. still no winner in the race for the white house some votes are still being counted in several key u.s. state's democratic challenger joe biden is closest to the 270 electoral college votes he needs to secure the presidency is a sense of press agency has called arizona for biden even though the count hasn't yet finished so if true that would put joe biden at 264 college votes agents is reporting that the arizona contest is still open meanwhile the trump campaign has launched legal actions claiming fraud and is trying to stop the count in 3 states. frustration spilling out onto the streets in new york and to trump protesters demanding every vote be counted. in other cities like
5:02 pm
here in seattle a similar story. in portland a sign that many here have had enough of us politics all together. but in phoenix arizona pro trump supporters make their voices heard outside an election center. this is a country divided. i believe personally as a republican that's trying one in l.a. i'm fired but because of culbut on the ballot that 300000 ballots overnight were found in every city in the swing states for a bite and i'm just overwhelmed i am so stressed yesterday with like you know the but this morning i broke down and cried because of the possibility that trent might be in office again. across several states folks are still being counted the
5:03 pm
majority of them have been sent in by post and in this election costing a vote by mail has been favored by many democrats every vote must be counted i know it's going to take our democracy away from us not now not ever. america has come too far there is far too many battles americans endure too much ever let that happen. but republicans claim these petty store votes amount to electoral fraud with donald trump accusing democrats of trying to steal the election. trump's top lawyer is promising legal action to push if he. doesn't do it because you do think you. get called deplorable. so. we're going to stick with this
5:04 pm
we're going to win this election with. just a matter of counting the votes. it may come down to the courts to decide who wins this election the closest fought battle for the white house in 20 years. all right let's take a look at the current state of play it with a close look at the states that haven't yet stick clad figures show biden on 264 and president trump on 214 election college votes the 270 mark for the winner michigan was the last states to drop into the biden column it's 16 electoral votes which trump one back in 2016 now go to his democratic challenger. wisconsin came in for biden with another 10 electoral votes won wisconsin 4 years ago and both campaigns appalled huge resources into the states now to votes that are still being counted by the a.p. news agency which sound main source of election data has that cold out of biden
5:05 pm
though other major outlets have called it yet 11 college votes up for grabs in. kind of he has a slim lead in the vada which has the 6 votes he needs for a win. on to georgia 16 electoral votes on the table there and trump is in the lead but that lead has that narrowed that. the truck campaign has filed a lawsuit alleging that ineligible a late absentee ballots may have been added to the count on to pennsylvania which is the biggest prize still up for grabs with 20 electoral votes donald trump currently holds a night of lead with the remaining male invalid's are expected to favor the democrats. so with votes still being counted to donald trump's path to victory appears to have narrowed states in bed all blue are those the ones that have declared a winner the trouble by states in the lighter a blue or pink are leaning towards biden or trump respectively.
5:06 pm
let's get the latest that event from washington and we'll join d.w. correspondent assume a sum assuming some misconduct welcome sylvie let's start with george or whether the margin of victory is super slim how surprising is that. yes razor thin fell i mean right now president trump is ahead by around 18000 votes that margin has actually been narrowing and that is really surprising i mean georgia hasn't gone for a democrat in a presidential race since 1902 this is a state republicans always thought that they could count on but georgia is also changing so 1st of all still there been demographic changes there is a growing immigrant population a growing young latino population young professionals who've been moving to some of the growing cities these are groups that tend to vote for the democrats and also these big urban areas in georgia the surrounding suburbs as well they've been
5:07 pm
growing and rural areas have been shrinking those are the areas that tend to vote for republicans so that is redrawing the political map a little bit in georgia and that is why we saw both president trump and joe biden and their surrogates stumping in georgia heavily ahead of the selection now i do want to let you know that georgia state officials have just been holding a press conference here reading out the vote totals and saying that around 60000 votes still need to be counted they also said sas just great but we need accuracy so they're moving as fast as they can fell while trying to be accurate but we'll be able to go to philadelphia now where the trump campaign is just a dime's they've got a court order to gain access to votes counted but let's take a listen to what they had to say. but the box seat guide dog the opportunity to light the. building for what you know to be behind every word is pretty. good for the group of. persons who. would likely be
5:08 pm
going to go to the world now. it's moving on. from you know a middle way away what you want. to your you know those numbers you know what the american people votes on and we're not should be some risk on this so soon we are how much. likely to affect the final result. well i just want to point out what we heard in that clip there we heard the trump him calling this a win so what this court order has allowed them to do is to go into this convention center in philadelphia and observe the process and that's not unusual right now there are representatives of both parties observing vote coming across the country so that should not actually change anything on the ground nor should it really slow the process of counting votes or in pennsylvania so this is not really something new that has been achieved with this court order other than the trump team entering that convention center and legal observers don't think that the slew of lawsuits
5:09 pm
you've mentioned will have really a big outcome on the election 1st because there has been no proof of fraud irregularities and also because they're launching legal challenges over what people believe to be a pretty small amount of votes that even though this is a tight race don't look like they will swing the outcome of this election and i should say that president trump has been reinforcing this message again this more morning he tweeted out the words stop the count and it seems that he wants a vote counting really stopped across the board but still if that were to happen right now i do want to point out the president would lose the election because joe biden is in the lead as the numbers stand right now in arizona nevada and other states where he is projected to win ok unserved to rezone which associates you depress newsagency has called for by even though the votes are still being counted and trump is narrowing that lead how do you read about race. it's going to be a very very tight race fell i mean president trump as you said is narrowing the
5:10 pm
lead and it's come down to this one very large county america county where votes are still being tallied right now and this is where we saw around 200 president from supporters armed show up to voice their support and demand that their votes be counted so tensions are very high there in arizona and joe biden right now leads only by about 868000 votes around 200000 votes still need to be counted so as you can do you tell if you do them out there a lot could still change regardless democrats believe or they're hopeful rather that mage the majority of those votes will go in their favor but the president has a good chance let's say in arizona and service members come to washington thank you . well even as the last votes are being counted in a handful of states every zones already in highlights and clear geographical voting patterns in actual map shows the blue of the democrats holding sway in traditionally liberal states on the east and west coasts are republican fred

voters for trump's supporters one topic was keith. what he's done for our economy he's a businessman he brings a businessman approach. and the results are in the numbers i mean our economy was probably one of the best economies we've ever had and tells pandemic here. joe biden supporters have completely different concerns. a job is not to make it better if your mother died or your father died i think this is a we will be you have to get a better group for our children and for all survive what direction is the u.s. heading in now both democrats and republicans called this the most crucial election in the country's history across the nation voters felt the pressure. or through war it was a big relief. that the voting day is over with and we can all relax a little bit you know but not everyone can relax as the vote counting continues and

the race in this deeply divided nation goes into extra time. oh no the futuristic technology is becoming reality as a team of engineers in the netherlands pushes the bounds pushes the boundaries of mobility as we know it is a company represents a whole new sort of hybrid it kind of fly out and it's just been true for years and the inroads it's in dutch company p l v says the 3 wheeler cold liberty needs more than 5000 road and safety regulations and if you want one 1st of all you'll need a pilot's license and also need about half a 1000000 euros for just the basic model. stunt your mind about top story at this hour as a voting counting continues in a nail biting us elections democratic candidate joe biden says he's that confident of taking the white house the news agencies called arizona for by putting him just
