vote in 3 states. frustration spilling out onto the streets in new york and trump protesters demanding every vote be counted. in other cities like here in seattle a similar story. in portland a sign that many here have had enough of u.s. politics all together. but in phoenix arizona pro trump supporters make their voices heard outside an election center. this is a country divided. i believe personally as a republican that trump won in a landslide but because of culbut and the ballots that 300000 ballots overnight

were found in every city in the swing states were by then i'm just overwhelmed i am so stressed out yesterday it was like you know in society but today this morning i broke down and cried because of the possibility that trent might be in office again . across several states vote all still being counted the majority of them have been sent in by post and in this election costing a vote by mail has been favored by many democrats every vote must be counted i know it's going to take our democracy away from us not now not ever. america has come too far america's far too many battles americans under too much never let that happen. but republicans 7 claim these parties to invite some amount to electoral for a want with donald trump accusing democrats of trying to steal the election.

trumps top lawyer is promising legal action against bush if the bulls. democrats do because do. you. call deplorable and chumps. we're going to stick with this we're going to win this election with. just a matter of counting the votes. it may come down to the courts to decide who wins this election the closest full battle for the white house in 20 years. here is a closer look now at states that have not yet been called the latest figures show joe biden with stu 164 electoral college votes president trump has 214 let's go through the states will start in arizona votes are still being counted there but the associated press which is our main source of election data has called

that state for joe biden the other major news outlets have not called it yet 11 electoral college votes are up for grabs in arizona joe biden currently has a slim lead in the state of nevada the state carries 6 electoral college votes this is also the state with the largest number of uncounted votes tonight. in the u.s. south the state of georgia 16 electoral votes are on the table there trump is in the lead but that lead has narrowed in the trump campaign has filed a lawsuit alleging that ineligible late absentee ballots may have been added to the vote kail pennsylvania is the biggest prize still up for grabs with 20 electoral college votes donald trump currently holds a narrow lead but the remaining mail in ballots are expected to favor the democrats so with votes still being counted donald trump's path to victory that path has

will update results tomorrow or there early afternoon there was some disappointment brant because some people had hoped that we might find out more definitive results from nevada today but the reason for that is of processing lots of mail in ballots and to add to that you can actually in the state of nevada can actually receive these ballots all the way until next week and legally according to state rules they would have to be counted as well it could be a very small number of ballots we're talking about it might not be decisive but still so much as hanging in the balance now as they stands right now joe biden's leaders are at around $11000.00 voigt votes and election officials in the state say that all of those ballots that were cast in person on election day they've been tallied so what we're waiting for is those mail and ballots and they have been leaning as we heard in the report to the democrats so joe biden seems very hopeful that nevada could go their way but it's too soon to say friends if we go from the west to the east. the state did georgia the margin of victory is going to be razor thin there we understood how surprising is that is. it's really surprising but i

mean you know the last time georgia voted for a democrat was for bill clinton in 1902 that's a long time ago this is a republican stronghold and it's been so for many years and right now president trump is ahead by just around 14000 votes but that margin has been shrinking you know there are less than 60000 votes left to count there and a good number of those are coming from fulton county where atlanta is located have only favor for the democrats and you know atlanta really grant is an example of what's been driving change in short georgia i mean of these big urban areas with the surrounding suburbs that are home to immigrant populations young latinos people have been moving in from other states perhaps up north and that's been turning patches of of georgia's map blue in a state that was otherwise you know a sea of red and now it is a battleground state at least this year it is and that's a new political reality for both parties and of course you have people in the question around the world still wondering when will we have

right so the secretary of state of pennsylvania has reportedly come out to say that she is hopeful that we actually get the votes count the final vote count from philadelphia bucks county and so on this is a district the suburbs around philadelphia by tonight local time here now caution caution caution she said hold it probably will be tomorrow some point tomorrow that we get the final vote count here and that is and that is if the champ administration does not come up with some other legal maneuver to halt this or delay this what have you so maybe today maybe tomorrow best i can give you know a world that's as good as we are getting today chiffons iman's in philadelphia there right between the trial and the biden supporters to fund thank you. will states in the united states have until december 18th to deliver their results

which is supposed to guarantee that all votes are counted now that day is called safe harbor day because in the state results delivered afterwards well they can be challenged the last time this happened was 20 years ago in an election that was ultimately decided by the u.s. supreme court. november 2000 republican presidential candidate george w. bush seems to win florida but the results are so close that the rules demand a recount the whole election hangs in the balance democratic candidate al gore request a manual recount in certain counties. recounting by hand took a long time a legal battle slowed vote counting down and the state overshot the safe harbor date december 8th this allowed the bush campaign to ask the supreme court to stop a new statewide recount which it did bush was declared the winner by a margin of just

a few 100 votes. fast forward to this november another election without an immediate result the established law in some states is that counting early and mail in ballots can only start on election day and this year the corona pandemic meant millions of people voted that way counting all these ballots takes guess what a long time. we don't know how long yet but that december 8th safe harbor deadline is starting to become visible on the horizon. president trump has already said he intends to use lawsuits to slow down or stop state counts which could push them past the safe harbor date and make them vulnerable to challenges his 1st comments after polls close pointed towards vegas he falsely said counting votes after election day was illegal. we were getting ready to win this election frankly we did win this election. is

a couple of weeks ago we got the u.s. president mel threat me a number of legal challenges if the vote does not go his way does he have a legal basis to stand on when he's making these these claims. no i mean he has no legal basis to stand on. not even remotely these cases are getting kind of laughed out of the courts they have been all day i don't even know if this is intended really to be a serious legal move or if these lawsuits are instead just intended to tell the dealership and why is the election in the eyes of his supporters there are even reports that trump is considering running again in 2024 and these lawsuits might be more an appeal to the g.o.p. base they certainly aren't any appeal to the supreme court we know that the u.s. president has said that he would like to see this go to the supreme court but if we talk about the situation in the year 2000 we're talking about one state the state

of florida what what the president is talking about now involves many states does that make it more or less likely to go to the supreme court. harder less likely so really the only scenario in which the supreme court can hand donald trump the election would be if the election came down to one state and if that state was very close and most likely in this case it would be in a state that was very close that was allowing votes to come in after election day and essentially where there had been accommodations for coping 19 donald trump's problem as you can gather from his response has been that he needs phones to continue being counted in some states to stop being counted in other states and he's simply behind in too many states and potentially what will be the deciding state of pennsylvania he's losing pretty badly but he's not losing yet but it looks poised to win this badly just counting the votes that were received on election day
