this is deja vu news live from berlin the u.s. president blasts his own country's electoral process in his 1st address since election night the u.s. president calls the mail in voting quote corrupt can be. easily won and if you get out the illegal goods they can try to steal. the election from this as his campaign launches legal action to stop ballot counting in key states our u.s. team fact checks his remarks. and
6:01 am
we have blue cross welcome to the program facing possible defeat us president donald trump is doubling down again making false and baseless claims that he was robbed of a victory in the u.s. presidential election which wrapped up just 48 hours ago meanwhile he's losing ground in counting in the 4 swing states that remain undecided now the latest figures show by them with 264 electoral votes to president donald trump's 214 electoral votes. let's look at some of the states that are still outstanding in georgia where there are 16 of those electoral votes up for grabs it's an intensely tight race for both candidates biden and trump are neck and neck with 99 percent of the votes counted the latest count showed the vice president down by just 2000
6:02 am
votes and catching up fast now in pennsylvania the biggest prize up for grabs on this election 20 electoral votes donald trump currently holds a narrow a narrow lead but that gap is constantly narrowing and the remaining mail in ballots are expected to favor joe biden now let's move out west a complicated state arizona the votes are still being counted but the associated press news agency which we use as a source of our election data they've called it for biden not so for other news networks that are keeping it as too close to call 11 electoral college votes are up for grabs there we're counting that in biden's favor but that could still change and then we have nevada nevada joe biden currently with a slim lead in that state it carries the exact 6 votes that he would need to win the presidency there's about 190000 votes left to count according to election officials there most of which in democratic favored areas so looking out looking at
6:03 am
the whole map the votes are still being counted on the terms path to victory appears to be narrowing states in red or blue have been called by a.p. for trump or biden in states you can see there in lighter blue or pink or leaning toward biden or trump respectively now just remember any one state can give biden the win but trump we need a combination of those remaining states to hang on. and let's get more on this with do you have you a correspondent on ian as if he's in washington and let's take a breath here and remind viewers why exactly these narrowing gaps in states like georgia and pennsylvania are so important for both campaigns for the for the result of this election. well william i think the democrats are looking more at pennsylvania than any other state right now even though it's currently in trump's favor that gap is narrowing and it's narrowing rapidly biden. opponent is winning the incoming votes that are being counted rather by
6:04 am
a very wide margin which is rapidly putting him ahead if you would graph this that would look like an upward swing which means he's likely very likely to pass trump's count by tomorrow even as votes come in so arizona is going the other way arizona was called for biden by some prominent media outlets but is actually going the opposite way so actually the hope rests with a state like pennsylvania which has enough electoral college votes to get biden to the 270 that he needs and georgia is so close that it can also help him and with georgia and nevada which is also in biden's favor you could win the presidency all right stick with us for a 2nd i want to go to donald trump in just what he was saying earlier with a victory looking more difficult for him the trump campaign has launched legal action claiming fraud trying to stop the count in some states but state election
6:05 am
officials counter by saying there is 0 evidence of any wrongdoing to the contrary they say that counting is perceiving by and large very smoothly across the country but here is something that the president had to say and challenge joe and every democrat to clarify that they only want legal votes because they talk about votes and i think they should use the word legal eagle but we want every legal vote counted and i want every legal vote we want openness and transparency no secret count rooms no mystery ballots no illegal votes being cast after election day you know the election day and the laws are very strong that you have an election and they don't want votes cast after election day and they want the process to be an honest one and if so bored we want an honest election we want an honest count. and we want honest people working back there because it's a very important so that's the way this country is going to win that's the way the
6:06 am
united states will win and we think we will win the election very easily we think there's going to be a lot of litigation because we have so much evidence so much proof and it's going to end up perhaps that the highest court in the land will see what we think they'll be a lot of litigation because we can't have an election stolen by like this and i tell you i would i have been talking about this for many months with all of you and i've said very strongly that mail in ballots are going to end up being a disaster small elections were disaster small where is it and elections were disasters this is a large scale version and it's getting worse and worse every day we're hearing stories that are horror stories absolute horror stories appearing on the n.s.f. back and so trump says he wants to have an honest count but that seems to be exactly what's going on is there any evidence that this election is fraudulent or in some way being stolen from him. it's very difficult to parse out what exactly
6:07 am
he's alleging because being very vague about that on twitter and even there he says we're hearing stories people are telling stories in the media but he's not saying what those stories are which is left it up to a lot of his supporters to fill in the blanks with things that are reading on facebook a lot of misinformation now conservative media respectable conservative media in the united states is also doing a job of finding out if there's been any irregularities in the vote count which there is any total evidence that there have been some irregularities in various states around the country. ballots being counted by mail or even though they came in after the deadline or anecdotal evidence that some polling places have not allowed in republican observers some of those stories have been debunked but it's certainly nothing like a large scale deal of the vote from trump by democratic conspiracies
6:08 am
so yes the electoral system in the united states isn't perfect not every vote has been observed and certified by every american but at the same time he's alleging a conspiracy and we can say for a fact that that's not happening he seems to have particular ayer for mail in voting but you know the head of the u.s. vote foundation for example she once told me that absentee ballots these mail in ballots are the gold standard in voting so what's behind trump calling them corrupt or trying to call them corrupt. well he's been preparing this for a long time and frankly some of the democrats the democrats knew in the pandemic there was going to be more willingness to vote by absentee ballot and both republicans and democrats know full well that when people vote by mail and when those ballots are counted they largely favor democrats so what trump is afraid of is that he's losing his narrow lead in states like pennsylvania as they count absentee ballots but what you'll notice is trump and his supporters are not saying
6:09 am
they should stop counting ballots in arizona where those absentee and mail and and late votes are being counted and are showing up in his favor so it's inconsistences on that front definitely a bit of pick and choosing i'm not sure how feasible that is democratic candidate joe biden also addressed the issue of a legit voter fraud let's hear what he had to say earlier. in america the vote is sacred. it's how people of this nation express their will. it is the will of the voters no one not anything else that chooses the president united states of america so each ballot must be counted. and that's what we're going to see going through now and that's how it should be democracy sometimes messy and sometimes requires a little patience as well but that patience has been rewarded now for more than 240
6:10 am
years this just of government governance that's been the envy of the world. we continue to feel. we continue to feel very good about where things stand we have no doubt that when the count is tradition or harrison i will be declared the winners so i ask everyone to stay calm all the people to stay calm the process is working the count is being completed and we'll know very soon so thank you all for your patience. you have to count the votes god bless you all may god protect our troops thank you so much. joe biden there affirming his faith in the electoral process saying only americans american voters elect the president for being technical here of course it's the electoral college that aleck's the president not the voters themselves which is part of the drama here are democrats and how are democrats preparing it seens if this election moves to the courts if it is contested by the
6:11 am
trump campaign those are lofty and unifying words from biden but of course democrats are prepared to fight dirty as well their lawyer in up as you might say they've been preparing for this for a while so they're prepared to fight donald trump in the courts they're going to not going to pull any stops probably will remain within the law but the big worry is that if this goes to the supreme court's trump has a favorable standing there also there's some scenarios where this could go to congress and it might be difficult to win the battle there i mean yes if it's going to be a long road ahead of us and i'm sure you'll be there for us thanks very much reporting from washington. now let's take a look at some other stories making news around the world. the former president of kosovo. has been arrested and is being held at a detention center in the hague he resigned on thursday to face war crimes charges at a special kosovo court he was

at the height of the pandemic in the spring some populations have accepted tough new restrictions elsewhere so-called lockdown fatigue means there's growing pushback. milan's lockdown begins on friday it's just one of the areas in the red zone which brings with it the strictest rules residents will only be allowed to leave their homes for work to exercise or to shop for essential over a quarter of italy's population mostly in the north are affected. the government believes are rapidly rising virus numbers have left them no will turn to if. we understand the discomfort this causes it's causing psychological suffering but we must resist working to mitigate the negative effects these restrictions have on the economy on citizens incomes on society.
