and beethoven is for. beethoven is for every modern beethoven 2020 years of the 50th anniversary here on d w no. such luck. still counting the votes in the us election and president trump is still claiming he was robbed of even if joe biden does finally cross the electoral college finish line democratic power brokers will still be asking themselves why didn't we do better i'm phil gayle in berlin and this is the day. this is a long process but i think all of us would agree. counselor. you

know is much more fighting back you know it's much more vital. than having a fast parts. let me tell you one thing when you have a narrow margin or. 5. little small things can make a difference. also on the day of joe biden does end up in the white house he won't be taking as many democrats with him as he hopes to look at why the blue way turned out to be just a trickle president elect biden has a strong mandate to lead and he will have a strong democratic house with him and many democrats in the senate some of them
9:32 pm
one a few did not. welcome to the day we saw with the u.s. election still on the knife edge counting is continuing in many states with some so close the results could still go either way 3 days after the election we're creeping close to knowing whether joe biden or donald trump will be inaugurated in january as clocks tally the remaining ballots when they're finished they might have to start all over again. on friday state officials in georgia said they expected they would have to carry out a recount georgia judge gardens razor thin advantage the focus for our office for the county election officials for now remains on making sure that every legal vote is counted and recorded accurately. as we are closing in on a final count we can begin to look toward our next steps. with a margin that's small there will be
9:33 pm
a recount in georgia. the news came as biden took the lead in both georgia and pennsylvania another pivotal battleground state biden's lead there is a little more comfortable with that in georgia but it's still a tight race. what are you that is for both sides have been facing off outside vote counting sots in philadelphia. downstate is crucial for both candidates if biden wins pennsylvania he will have enough electoral college votes to get him to the white house effectively closing the door on trump's reelection chances. well that's go through some of today's developments with claire richardson from data brings us the election well today let's start with last night's 17 minute diatribe from the president a triumph for these baseless claims of corruption and vote rigging and we've seen this sort of performance from a sitting u.s. president casting doubt on his own country's democracy before you know we haven't
9:34 pm
a fellow he's not in modern american democracy if you remember last time that a sitting president lost to a challenger that was george w. bush back in 1902 and he made a very gracious concession speech in which he said that his opponent ran a better race and it down it was time to unite behind him for the good of the country can't imagine something like that coming out of this race as you say trump is casting doubt on the legitimacy of these elections it's both baseless but not surprising right we've seen this all summer especially when it comes to me. well in votes trump has said time and time again that these falsely said that this could lead to fraud and so his supporters simply haven't been using mail in voters as he's asked them and so now as these votes are being tallied in these key swing states they're looking for a victory and the ones they're looking at are mail and votes those are going to biden predictably has expressed his frustration over that so this week we've heard state election officials say that trump supporters had been even harassing poll workers to try to get them to stop counting the votes in certain states and that's
9:35 pm
led even some republicans to criticize trump for comments for his comments undermining the u.s. political process because obviously they also believe that every vote counts i have to say phil just there is no evidence of fraud in this election it's extremely rare in america but obviously it still can hate and fear and will have repercussions long after this election even so you're a must be good wrench in whichever side you're on to see the figures ok it's going really well and analysts sudden vote after vote after vote is going for the other guy let's talk about the other guy he seems to have been much more presidential in his response quite well i mean it's easier let's say for them to take the high road in the biden campaign because they do appear to be on the cusp of a victory by this he is very optimistic today we heard the speaker of the house nancy pelosi even called biden the president elect we haven't heard that kind of language before and she asked the nation to be calm and to be confident to be patient because they really believe that this is going to go their way and in fact
9:36 pm
they've been convinced that the vote will go in favor of biden and since wednesday evening we saw joe biden and his running mate come come out and all but claim victory saying they are going to wait for all the votes to be counted as needs to happen in a democratic election but they are just waiting for that moment when they can call it for themselves i believe ok so let's take a look at a couple of the problematic votes joe biden had in pennsylvania a tiny margin putting fractionally ahead in georgia yes georgia is really in a dead. and i have those numbers for you phil biden has pulled ahead by as you say a very narrow margin of just around 1600 votes 1600 yet and they are still counting so now the secretary of state there says that he expects a recount given just how thin that margin is in nevada i mean while biden's lead has decreased to just over 20000 also an interesting state to keep an eye on or really all eyes are on pennsylvania after biden over took trump on the count today
9:37 pm
the pennsylvania numbers now stand at 96 percent of the vote has been tallied biden is ahead by well over 13000 votes and of the ballots that are remaining to be counted most of those are provisional or military ballots which they expect to lean in favor of the democrats biden does win pennsylvania as 20 electoral votes he will have that magic 270 electoral college votes that he need and that will be a victory for his campaign so where will the waiting be over yes the question of the moment well it depends on when we hear from nevada and pennsylvania where truly every count every vote counts more than we would normally say it does nevada has said it will be giving an update later tonight philadelphia's election commission as the final count could take several days we may be left in limbo for longer much longer than we would like to be with biden appearing to be on the cusp of victory through several paths he has said that he is going to be speaking to the nation tonight some people are wondering whether that could be his speech in which he declares victory could come as soon as this evening or perhaps it could be like
9:38 pm
what we saw on wednesday evening where he's simply saying patients let the vote counters do their thing let's hats off to them for the hard work they've been doing over these days and we will have a positive result for you soon clear richardson dobies us elections to thank you. patience as the final votes are counted donald trump. in his 1st appearance since election night u.s. president made a series of unsubstantiated claims that he's being robbed of a 2nd term state election officials insist there's no evidence of any wrongdoing. 2 days after the polls closed president delivered his latest broadside against the electoral system if you count the legal votes. if you count the illegal. they can try to steal. the election from us if you
9:39 pm
count. there is no evidence of voting irregularities in the u.s. because of the coronavirus pandemic many votes were delivered by mail the count ballots are steadily increasing the lead of democratic candidates to biden. seeking to stop the vote count republicans have launched lawsuits in several states once the legal battle to reach the u.s. supreme court which leaned heavily to the right after he failed 3 of the seats with conservative justices. we think there's going to be a lot of litigation as we have so much evidence so much proof and it's going to end up perhaps at the highest court in the lead the president left the podium to a barrage of questions from reporters. why are you allowed to leave her campaign all about that money found
9:40 pm
a lot of the known. on the streets trump supporters echoed his baseless claims of everything he's done a legitimate leader fairly and truthfully already by days already but they're just calling it so they can try to steal it more and more of a file that biden took to the stage with a very different message so we have no doubt that when the count is tradition in harrison i will be declared the winners so i ask everyone to stay calm all the people to stay calm the process is working the count is being completed and you will know very soon so thank you all for your patience but for you have to count the votes. biden's bakos tunde outs in numbers in philadelphia where votes are still being counted because the american democracy is that red and we have an administration who is stated. both planes that are going to make you know that
9:41 pm
yourself the next election and train and deal the election and what i believe to be the correct way to. philadelphia ballots could tip the balance in pennsylvania and deliver the presidency to biden. it's me just a target of extremists please stop the group of armed prove trump conspiracy theorists suspected of planning an attack on the counting center it seems no matter the verdict of the voters the divisions in the country will persist long after the counting is done. well since everyone else is getting the lawyers involved we thought we would do. the same michael moley is a professor of law at the florida state university is a particular interest in that true election and constitutional welcome today w m have you heard any allegations from republicans about voting fraud that you think stand any chance in the courts and many
9:42 pm
allegations made but to date there hasn't been evidence to support them and to the extent that lawsuits are brought based on allegations of voter fraud especially given the highly condensed time periods involved in elections courts are going to expect actual proof right lawsuits aren't going to get very far just based on a jet generic unsupported claims about voter fraud so today no we don't have reason to we haven't seen any evidence giving us reason to believe that there is any sort of widespread systemic fraud going on so it's just talk us through the process and presumably you have to wait for a vote to be finished and declared an venue have to say i object because if they send this amended sort of how long does it take to go through the process. well so there's there's many different types of procedures that that can occur as as the votes are being counted if there is an allegation for example that observers are being excluded that that that state law requires the count to be conducted
9:43 pm
transparently and that it's not then people can go to court immediately while the while the process is going on to say hey you have to let our observers in where if there's an allegation that the count itself is occurring in violation of state law that certain valid ballots are being rejected that invalid ballots are being counted again right you can go seek emergency relief to try to ensure that that initial tally is correct on the other hand after the count is complete then litigants can either raise party's candidates can raise constitutional challenges saying that there is a violation of the u.s. constitution somehow in in what occurred that that's really what's going on in pennsylvania one of the main arguments that the trump campaign has asked for the u.s. supreme court to hear is whether the pennsylvania state supreme court has allowed certain votes to be counted even though they arrived too late even though they arrived after the after the statutory deadline if biden's margin is wide enough
9:44 pm
however if biden is ahead by enough votes then most of these lawsuits will just drop out because the number of ballots at stake in those lawsuits the number of ballots being contested in those lawsuits would be less than the amount of biden's lead. that's very clear thank you could be turned now to this this mysterious and that college the presumption is that the candidate who wins the state gets all the college votes 2 states have to follow the will of the voters all could decide to go their own way. so 49 out of 51 states have a system like you described called the winner take all rule where the unit rule where who whichever candidate gets gets the most votes within that state receives all of the state's electoral votes 2 states maine and nebraska actually have what's called a district based system where for the presidential electors they get based on their
9:45 pm
house of representatives delegation each congressional district will award its electoral vote to whoever won that destroy whoever got the whichever presidential candidate got the greatest number of votes just within that district and then the state's 2 extra electoral votes that corresponds to its u.s. senators go to who won the statewide totals so here if you look at maine and nebraska at least based on current tallies it appears both of those states will will wind up splitting their electoral votes where biden won the statewide tally in maine yet trump looks like he's going to pull ahead in one district there and in nebraska trump won the statewide tally there but biden's going to pull ahead in one district there wow ok so when president when donald trump leaves office whether that's now rainfall yeah is when we say no the last 4 years a whole whole train of people claiming this that and they have against him is event likely once he's out of office to face
9:46 pm
a whole load of low suits that no one could touch him with because of presidential immunity. well that's that's that's exactly right for there the supreme court has recognized that during a president's term in office the president is immune from not certainly not all civil litigation but there are so there are certain types of suits that cannot be pursued against against a sitting president and so to the extent that certain lawsuits have have either been delayed or have been impossible to bring as as a result of immunity then yes the president trumpets winds up as what appears to currently be the case winds up losing the election then he could potentially be facing a substantial amount of civil litigation afterwards so given all the shouting and contentiousness of campaign in this election if you as a lawyer found it particularly interesting or is it is it just what you would expect from a contentious from
9:47 pm
a contentious condit. well i mean again there to a certain degree you have to separate the political posturing from the legal arguments i mean this election overall has obviously been historically unique we it we had been we conducted it in the midst of a global pandemic before even before long before election day there were over 425 state and federal cases around the nation about what the rules governing the electoral process should be so i think one of the most one of the most unique things about the election is just how much in the up in the air what the rules were going to be as we progressed closer and closer to election day you would get court orders changing the rules other court orders suspending those court orders as things were going back and forth and i think to a certain extent a lot of that uncertainty about what the deadlines were how you were able to vote who would be able to vote absentee do you need is 6 signature matches the just all
9:48 pm
of that uncertainty created an environment where after the fact challenges and after the fact allegations might come across to some people is a little more credible then in the course of an ordinary election that's happening according to the ordinary rules that everybody's been now in for years talking to in fact for joining us professor michael wally from florida state university thank you. so at the moment the presidential election is tilting towards joe biden the result is still 3 days to pay election it's an indication that things haven't gone as well as democrats had hoped despite a demo donald trump's divisiveness a mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic democrats a staring at a reduced majority and the house of representatives and that bit to win the senate looks over their reactions from house speaker democrat nancy pelosi and republican minority leader kevin mccarthy. president elect biden has
9:49 pm
a strong mandate to lead and you'll have a strong democratic half with him and many democrats in the senate one of the reasons we were able to win so many feet was to present the caliber of leadership of our members. some of them one a few did not all of them excellent as of right now we have 7 g.o.p. pickups we also have 11 outstanding races that i feel very confident that will continue to grow and when i will likely have an additional $14.00 to $19.00 republican women. this will break the record for the most republican women coming in at any one time will double the number that will set a record for the most women ever in the republican party. let's bring in the democrats activist choudhry welcome to d w so fish nights as they the presidential election this still is in the balance how
9:50 pm
are you feeling. i mean it's we're towards the end of this presidential process i'm feeling like it's imminent survived it just going to take a couple of seconds but i'm also feeling these regrets that you're bringing up in the introduction here which is that it was not a great night for democrats and i would point out not only did they not take the senate and fall back and the house a bit but state legislatures which you know they were targeting 14 of them. these are the places where actually districts are drawn and voting rules are decided if you want to stop these kind of messes from happening it doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon so why didn't democrats do better what went wrong. i have to say i feel like it was a lack of clarity in the offer i think people didn't know exactly what it was the democrats are bringing to the table even though they did feel that donald trump is
9:51 pm
offering extremely uncertain leadership during this pandemic so i think you saw firm condemnation of trump without the condemnation of trump ism and so democrats need to work harder to reach especially working class americans and talk sort of about how they're going to approve their lives because that they've seen if you forgive me as an element of complacency it seemed like it was just enough that it was not trump. you know this was i think some of the attitude and i think some of that attitude was a strategy which was let's try to flip some republicans there's this very prominent group of moderate republicans who are switching against trump this was a failed strategy nancy pelosi you know chuck schumer everyone has to look at this strategy and say going after republicans did not work because for all of the hype hoopla and money spent doing it we saw republicans turn out even stronger for president trump than they added 2016 which is hard to imagine but which is the case
9:52 pm
so forgive me but i want to keep hammering at this point because people need to do more in thinking donald trump took florida not final call yet but he's at the moment it looks like 51.2 percent to trump against joe biden's 47.9 and so you have a candidate why couldn't he win a state with a significant immigrants latino community against a president who has railed against immigration and defend hispanics. i think again you have to look at voters in their totality so what you're saying is right communities who were right for the message that democrats are bringing into their communities voter unities are not hearing that message clearly because latino as especially did not come out for biden the way they came out for hillary the way they came out for obama and it's definitely something that that i don't think you can pin directly and only on the candidate's campaign but generally on democrats
9:53 pm
not wanting to reach beyond their immediate most popular base to increase their margins you know i'm so god and so forgive me for interrupting but i think it's very interesting point that you make that because i've seen a number of comments that said that that the democrats seemed intense to talk to suburban white people and didn't really have a strategy for anyone else yeah that really came through in this election and i think it's too bad because in the primary the one candidate that you saw increasingly of bringing more and new immigrant communities into the process especially working class immigrant communities and meat packing plants in iraq and casinos in nevada was bernie sanders but that his actual strategy of reaching towards low propensity voters which is something donald trump does is not generally part of the democratic playbook and hasn't been for a long time he had donald trump but does appear to have just out condit
9:54 pm
a sit out condit it did you because they he's a man who set the agenda every day and the democrats found themselves reacting to what he got to say pretty much every day for the last 4 years rather than say this is what way are offering. i think it's very true and it's sort of a double edged sword when you've got cold if i was someone who was like sort of you know relieved i'm sobs i was certain he would lose because the one issue he's the worst on which is leadership during go of it was going to be front and center but i think we saw that this only goes so far and that people really want to see material betterment in their lives and i think democrats would have been better served by you know passing a stimulus check that they could then run on and say not only is donald trump failing in leadership but we're the ones who are sort of bringing home the bacon and the goods and what she needs it was a big missed opportunity ok so regardless that
9:55 pm
a valid come of the presidential race what must the democratic party do differently between now and 2025. i think they should bring new people younger people into the leadership of the party because there are folks who would have seen i think that utility of reaching for you know older more moderate republicans and naturally in their kind of friends and family can bring in new people into the party so i think you're seeing us whether it's the sunrise movement whether it's outs and you're a sea of cortez or any another number of candidates are bringing in a lot of new people and new energy and people who used to be over and city voters so i do think it's a generational shift of our in the democratic party that's happening and it may seem odd that joe biden you know as old as he is would be the one to usher in this new age but i hope i hope that he gets that that's what the next step is and let's see who he proposes for d.n.c. leadership and something a lot of dynamism more same old democratic activist sattar and chowdhry thank you

this is d.w. news line from joe biden inches closer to the white house the democratic congressman ted leads president trouble hot and full of undeclared battleground states according to associated press figures being used by a wage in pennsylvania georgia that would put mr biden in the white house. meanwhile president trump is peddling conspiracy theories on the litany of baseless claims insisting he's a man who's been robbed don't think every election. i'm
10:01 pm
filled welcome to the program. joe biden is edging closer to the white house us final votes are still being counted 3 days after the u.s. election the democratic challenger is narrowly ahead in the key states which have yet to declare their results so let's take a look at the overall picture which hasn't changed for quite a while and so far joe biden has 264 electoral college votes and donald trump 214 according to the a.p. a news agency remember they need the magic number there to 70 electoral college votes to win pennsylvania would be a massive prize 20 electoral votes there joe biden's lead is currently more than 30 and a half 1000 votes with 98 percent of the vote counted on to georgia with its 16
10:02 pm
electoral votes that's also extremely close bidens pulled ahead of trump here but there are only about $1500.00 votes between them so that's likely to go to a recount overall donald trump's path to victory is looking increasingly narrow states in red or blue have been cold by pay for trump all $5.00 states in lighter blue or pink leaning towards biden or trumpet respectively any one state would give joe biden the when president trump needs a combination. q so 20 electoral votes up for grabs in pennsylvania a d w correspondent stephanie simon is outside the philadelphia convention center where the count is taking place welcome stephanie what's going on. but what's going on right now it's getting louder as you can imagine it's even getting louder and i want to share something and my car is going to follow me a little bit to see this what happens here is the crowd from this side the pro

count the vote crowd is going to move in a little bit which is not to the liking of the polling why because the some supporters rise and not take that too well they yell fest that's a little bit loud as you can imagine emotions get high off you know and it's possible that the scats not out of hand but a little bit uncomfortable so the police like this no not at all why are those guys here the term supporters dissatisfied of course not just because they got drowned out by the music you know and the dancing of those guys it's because there's 112000 votes still to be counted all in pennsylvania but predominantly in philadelphia and the surrounding counties bucks county allegheny county and a few others and all of those counties all of those votes still expected to be counted now in the following hours and tomorrow the sorry the dominant the fault of the democrats democratic votes mail in ballots that with about 12000 votes as of

now as a lead for drug violence and a trajectory of mapi. 72 percent of those still to be counted both joe biden will secure that's at least what advances crowds this will secure pennsylvania and returns holding that as a blue state back in the so-called blue wall which was broken only if i don't trump in 2016 this is to be reversed now some support as we talk to you. not like this they actually flat out deny that this is actually happening and the lads are all many relation and they talk about stealing of the boat is a problem no not at all is there maybe something go wrong here and there yes sir to be investigated yes that's what those guys are telling you they have no problem anybody investigating anyone called a recount they just want to make sure all votes get counted so this where we are

seeing right there more force from those. roads. and count all the votes throughout the from supporters police caught on in the middle and now you see more and more police also watching both sides like there are folks watching this side and the other side to keep those guys apart this is where we are and it's not going to end anytime soon what we have right now here. stephan simons that have been adelphia thank you so much. oh president trump has made a series of unsubstantiated claims that he's being robbed of a 2nd is failing to press ahead with a series of legal challenges even though state officials are insisting there is no evidence of any wrongdoing the president says he will never give up fighting but he's facing an uphill battle. on friday state officials in georgia said they
10:06 pm
expected they would have to carry out a recount in georgia joe biden's razor thin advantage the focus for our office and for the county election officials for now remains on making sure that every legal vote is counted and recorded accurately. as we are closing in on a final count we can begin to look toward our next steps. with a margin that's small there will be a recount in georgia. the news came as biden took the lead in both georgia and pennsylvania another pivotal battleground state biden's lead there is a little more comfortable with that in georgia but it's still a tight rice. what are you back is from both sides have been facing off outside vote counting sites in philadelphia. this state is crucial for both candidates if biden wins pennsylvania he will have enough electoral college votes to get him to the white house effectively closing the door on trump's reelection chances.
10:07 pm
election monitors from both parties have been allison force and there was no evidence of voting irregularities in pennsylvania or anywhere else in the u.s. . nevertheless donald trump has repeatedly made unsubstantiated allegations of nationwide voter fraud he claims he's been cheated out of reelection 6 something which has resonated with many of his supporters nationwide now the cheating they're making ballots to fraud they're clearly cheating the democrats have dead people voted for and they do this every single target this time we're not putting up with it republicans have offered no evidence for such claims but trump is refusing to concede the official word out of the white house on friday this is not over yet. but some of this were former republican congressman jim kolbe but who's now

worry that the votes coming in there which are being counted differently from pennsylvania because the only the books that are coming in works cast of election day are being counted right now and those were trending towards trump but the latest that shows not enough so can't catch up so it's all going to go for for a by so i saw you in quite confident that it's going to be president regardless of which way the base goes onto disappointed with you when you posses performance a presidential election still too close to call against a sitting president who has mishandled a health emergency c. in the economy tank and faced down accusations of being a racist who trashed hopes women. it is disappointing to see that. trump has done as well as he did there i think there are several things i don't know we're going to have to analyze figure out why this has happened where the

country has become somewhat more conservative more nationals more populous the same some of the same trends we're seeing in many european countries today there is a division clearly between the urban centers and east and west coast and the rural areas and midwest where in those rural areas trump is still quite popular and actually increased his margin by somewhat so it is somewhat disappointing and certainly the performance of the democrats in the senate and in the house is very disappointing let's pick up about that bad idea by division because looking ahead it's traditional fanie elected leaders to talk about healing and uniting the country but i wonder if it's too late for that in the u.s. if trump wins he'll see it as a vindication of his divisive policies if he loses his supporters will seemingly never accept that they will not accept that because and it's going to be led by him it's very clear if you know one thing about donald trump it's that he will never
10:11 pm
concede and that will be the 1st time in american history that the losing candidate for president has never conceded he will not concede on the day of the inauguration when biden this morning and he will say it was still stolen from him and will continue to say that it's going to make the healing process very very difficult to require a lot of work on the part of biden to reach out reach across party lines in the house in the senate and in the country i think he's the kind of person that can do that however because he certainly showed in the past these were spent many years in the senate he's had to work both in the minority and the majority so he knows about working across the aisle to get things accomplished good talking to you thank you so much for joining us such an culbut from the german marshall fund thank you. well away from the american election the rest of the world is still getting on with his business so we'll take a look at some of the stories making news starting guatemala where at least 150 people dead or missing after hurricane after swept across the country the army

up with demand but there is confidence that the current shutdown will help bring the number of cases back down the numbers that we see today or affect the situation a week ago because we have been conditioned period the numbers are slightly slightly improved we have to be optimistic because the reproduction number is below one and i think that's the 1st signs that things might get better here in our country in berlin people are taking reports of the record case rise in their stride many say they are learning to live with the virus and the restrictions. we see that even with restrictions in place the numbers still go up we just try to live with it now to cope with the situation i don't think about it any more than usual. pretty shocking i mean i think all governments in every country are doing the best they can i don't think there's any right or wrong. i would go to people in the vaccines and i certainly believe that would help. next week chancellor angela

front businesses. welcome to d.w. business i'm joined on in berlin thanks very much for joining us. the u.s. presidential election continues to be front of mind for investors around the world but dreams of a week long rallies are dashed on wall street after stocks stop their firing on friday democrat joe biden picked up a lead in key states and traders held their breath stocks in hong kong edged up slightly while shanghai slipped and european stock markets france's cac and germany's dax both ended the week lower. joining us now is a yen score to yan's are you there very good yes can you tell us what happened isn't this precisely what markets wanted why did they start to waver the closer we got to an outcome. well i mean we might be on the other side

to him soon when it comes to politics in washington but looking at the virus it seems less likely that we will be on the other side any time soon we recorded more than 120000 new corona infections just within one day that's a new negative record so maybe that was a bit on investors' mind other than that if you look also on the new jobs numbers that we've gotten on friday much better than expected 280-0000 jobs more than already estimated but maybe it was also just that the market was completely stressed out after this a turbulent week and even if the market does not move much here on friday for the week of they actually are up by more than 7 percent and was that it's still the best week on wall street since april. now that was the best week but looking forward to what 2 investors say expect from the biden presidency.

well a lot still also depends on the senate race and that might not be be decided before early january is still possible that the senate might be split $5050.00 and that would mean that the democrats have the majority in congress because it was $5050.00 of them coming to have as the vice president if elected would actually be the decisive war so if that chilled happen then the democrats change the country much more than as if because of the congress still might be split sole job biden in general promised a 2 trillion dollar infrastructure package to transform the country into a clean energy country so let's see if that's going to happen and also we will see if texas will increase if we will see more regulation but all of that really depends on how the majority of the plays out in congress what we're hearing about
10:20 pm
the next 8 pickets so that seems to be much more likely under a president joe biden to go through and get something done in the near future so that could be a plus for the stock market if the economy would get this additional push everything depends on other factors that certainly something yen is core to isn't used to thank you very much for your analysis. now it's not just u.s. investors planning for the next presidential term multinationals have a lot at stake to our reporter sumi so misconduct spoke to c.n.n. c.e.o. joke asr about the future of transatlantic business. mr casey we're here for an historic election what are your wishes your hopes for the next president of the. very 1st of all it's a matter of the american people they voted very good to see that so many people are going to vote because it's the end if they do will of the people now what we opened

the would wish for is that there is going to be an improvement again of the relationship between europe and the united states which people are good and certain about so that's certainly something which we believe would be very helpful for the world they should be also if you look at the chinese american. so if europe were on the table i think it would be good for multilateral fair and open trade and the other thing we would really hope for is that the new administration would come back to the paris agreement i mean the world has a problem in terms of climate. to go for solutions together and the more you can join the better of everybody as you mentioned improvement of relations more multimeter lateralus and siemens has about 50000 employees across the u.s. how have the last 4 years looked for business for you but i have to say that you

know we have very very reliable customers we have they gave us almost $27000000000.00 worth of revenues last year it's a lot. more than 25 percent of our revenues globally we have 3 people here more than 50000 so they serve the customers really well and i have to say that there was good support from the u.s. government in terms of business related topics really have to say there's been a lot of business people in the administration who really understand the challenges and the opportunities so i prefer there were also a lot of good things you have seen from the corridor administration the last 4 years have also been. i'm sure he did by this flare up in the trade conflict between china and the u.s. what do you hope to see there in particular. you know this is such an important topic to the 2 countries that the companies. serve and see what happens and how

they can support but the fact of the matter is this is not a top pick between the number one and the number 2 because not big powers to the. united states is number one in many areas tied up with 1400000000 people obviously does have the aspiration that they would be number one they need them so i don't think that this inherent conflict. will go away because potentially the new station. may change that. but how they talk to each other may change but the subject is so. and so what we do hope is that you know china the united states europe come together and push. the world would you we could all be a political order and have a good start in. that was siemens chief executive joel kayser talking to our correspondents in washington now let's take
