absolutely fine though rose no there is no evidence for any rigged election and for all the claims that donald trump has been making he and his team with his lawyer rudy giuliani with the son eric trump and he himself countless e-mails that have been reading and sending all talking about ballots that were burned ballot that suddenly showed up as you said after election day and also including the claim the ballots were cast after election day well he has to prove he and his team they have to prove all of this and as of looks like and that's also what we're hearing from some members of the republican party already there is no proof of that there is hardly any evidence at all for any election or any election interference in that sense and so we will have to see how that goes down with the courts or if donald trump even at some point changes its mind it doesn't look like it though at this point all right all of us out of standing by for us and we'll make it wilmington delaware the hometown of a joe biden now if you're just joining us of course we are declaring that democratic candidate joe biden has won at the u.s.

presidential election after sealing victory in the battleground state of pennsylvania that's after major us t.v. networks and the associated press have called the race in his favor and across back now to simi someone's going to in washington d.c. to get the latest and find out what has trump been saying about this. we just heard clear that president trump says that he will not concede and he's promised unspecified legal challenges should tell you the president is actually not in the white house right now he's been out in virginia on his golf course he left earlier this morning the white house to head out there he had been in the white house the last few days and left a bit earlier this morning in his motorcade and so he has said from there that he is not conceding and promising these legal challenges we also saw him tweet claire earlier this morning precisely this message again substantiated claims of voter fraud of illegal voting and he said you know a few hours ago on twitter i won the selection by a lot so person trump here is referring again to these legal challenges that his

team has launched in a number of these key battleground states where they are still tallying votes states like pennsylvania states like michigan and also in georgia and what we have to keep in mind however is that the majority of these legal challenges that his team has launched to get vote counting stopped also to get some of the ballots that have been received by mail invalidated that they have been rejected by judges in those states because there has been no proof of widespread voter fraud at least as we just heard from all over again we have to reinforce that and so when president trump is referring to this legal challenges he is presumably talking about pushing these challenges forward and yet there has been no success 1st team until this point on that front so we'll have to see what their strategy is going forward with these legal challenges because they haven't been successful it could be that they might try a new strategy but the president as we said clare not conceding at this hour saying he will continue his legal fight for the time campaign are not backing down that's
6:06 pm
hardly surprising given the messaging that we've seen from the president and his team in the months leading up to the election and in the days since tuesday but sumi are there other avenues that the president could pursue to really challenge this result. what we've heard the president say is that he will take this directly to the supreme court that those were his words that he believes the supreme court itself should decide this election the reality however clear is that there has to be some sort of legal basis for the supreme court to weigh in if it were to do so and that legal basis would have to be the following the president's team would have to show some sort of proof that there has been voter fraud that there have been massive errors something that would give courts a reason to take up these legal challenges and until now that has not been the case and those would be his avenue so it does look like the window is closing in that if you will on president trump and so it's not clear what his legal strategy would be and indeed we saw some reports yesterday that president trump's legal team is
6:07 pm
wondering what they will do when the president self apparently is not happy with his lawyers because they feel like he's not they're not fighting hard enough for him but i just have to say once more it doesn't appear to be there doesn't appear to be any avenue here for the president to challenge unless unless there they are able to locate and identify actual claims of fraud which we have not seen until now all right so as i was going to in a washington d.c. thank you so much we want to show you some live pictures now of from outside the white house in washington d.c. . last month in office there you say he's out golfing now but let's take a look at what what americans how americans are turning out in response to that news so you can bring up some pictures there. there you have it look at that proud american flags waving protesters out in the street recording this moment surely a historic election one for the history books. you can see those signs up on
6:08 pm
that stands that was arrested outside of the white house that's also something we've never seen in history a sitting president build walls around the white house ahead of election an election to show that they are afraid of the mass movements of people outside and worried about what would happen in the aftermath of what we're seeing now looks like a joyous crowd. we'll be bringing you more live updates on this story of course throughout the night if you're just joining us joe biden has been projected to win the u.s. presidency with 99 percent of the votes in biden why not 49.7 of those votes trump won 49.2 and with his victory in pennsylvania joe biden has passed at the threshold of 270 electoral college votes needed to win the presidency. liz stacy what are we to make of all this well i mean my angelou the american poet and civil rights activist said when somebody shows you who they are believe them donald trump has shown us who he is for the past 4 years he has been divisive he
6:09 pm
thrives on chaos and he's back at it again the very fact that he is trying to crawl away at democracy as an american president is beyond disgusting and we're going to see an end to that kind of behavior with joe biden in office is this going to be more of a traditional presidency that the world has become accustomed to from the united states i believe so i mean if past is prologue this has been how he's run his entire career as a politician reaching across the aisle his best friend was john john mccain he worked well with mitch mcconnell even though they have very different views when it comes to policy and he's repeatedly said again and again that if he was elected president that he'd be the president for both red states and blue space states and he would legislate for people who where they voted for him or not that he would try to bring the country together and like i said it's a shame that the president can't follow his lead and all of that and all of american history there's never been
6:10 pm
a president who has not been able to 1st concede and 2nd try to speak to his supporters to thank them for what they've done to assure them that you know policies will still try to be in place because they're there are there are senate people there are house people that are from the republican party and tried to say you know what this guy is the president of the united states we are unified country he has not done that at all this is unprecedented that's right and if you remember the last time that a sitting president was beaten by his challenger was all the way back in 1902 that's almost 30 years ago 100 my math correctly and that was very good although you bush you know being against bill clinton and you know after he lost he came out made a concession speech and basically said look i can't my opponent ran are great. race but now it is time to unite behind him because he is the president of the country and as you say we did see that in biden's speeches that he's been making this week and asking for patience he said that he wants to be a president not just for democrats but for but he's i think what you're touching on
6:11 pm
is really the key question here is how biden can really have an effective presidency given how deeply divided the country is given how this misinformation and how supporters have come so low the democrats and vice versa in the united states you mentioned about biden does have a good relationship with some republican lawmakers sometimes to his own detriment sometimes to his own house so just because you know democrats they really want somebody who will fight for them wholly and focus solely on what their policy initiatives are and biden throughout his career has been willing to compromise the big c word and so so he's taken some hits for him for doing that but i just have to say that aside from the trump circus that this is a monumental occasion and that senator coleman let harris vice president elect is the 1st woman to be in the white house and with all of what's happening with trump
6:12 pm
i think that we need to take time to the knowledge of what is happening here this is historic all of those little brown girls who felt like there was like this glass ceiling not just in politics but in regular life. now have a role model and representation matter matters she is the 1st woman the 1st woman of color after black and south asian descent we need to honor that and respect that there are so many people who marched on the streets who were fighting for the rights of black people still in 2020 and we're not going to get any recourse from president donald trump and now they see and feel that they have a chance with joe biden and that needs to be recognized the fact that trump cannot be a gracious loser he wasn't a gracious winner but the fact that he is focusing more on himself instead of the institution of democracy what can you say about that that's right it is
6:13 pm
a historic day for the california senator now vice president elect. just a heartbeat away from the presidency over the next 4 years and they certainly they've been setting the stage for a potential run by her in the future will be. for 8 years time for more of stacy thanks so much i want to cross now over back to our correspondent all over who is in wilmington delaware all over have we had any word from what biden's team has to say on all this. well the biden team came out with a statement just a little while ago and really reiterating biden's position that he wants to unite to heal the nation he wrote it's time to put anger and the harsh rhetoric of recent months and weeks aside and over the last 4 years the floors of the trump ministration and that is what he was elected for that is how he has his major argument basically that he put forward in his election campaign and he might be the right person to unite the nation the you has a lot of credibility among blue collar voters she grew up here in wilmington born
6:14 pm
in scranton pennsylvania an industrial region and he even experience experience poverty in his childhood so that gives him that sort of credibility that was also necessary to win back those important swing states of wisconsin michigan now also pennsylvania and with that credibility that he has and with that with that acceptance among not only liberals but also the working class he might really be the one that is actually able to knowledge to unite and heal the country as he promised and it's a lot of talk about joe biden be able to reach across the aisle and connect with republicans who may not have may not have given such a sympathetic ear to some of the other people who are running for president as a democrat but over i want to ask you to do you think joe biden is really able to reach out to the working class which is traditionally the strongholds of the democratic policy because we did see so many people that one might assume would traditionally be democratic voters vote for trump even in this election after 4
6:15 pm
years of a trump presidency. well he certainly has a lot of plans to help specifically this group there's a minimum salary of $15.00 that he's planning to impose he wants free he wants free college tuition for those who earn less than one $125000.00 per year he also wants to help americans with health care so there's a lot of plans of course in the end you know that he needs the support of the senate and he needs control of the senate with the democratic party and that's everything but sure at this moment so it might be a very challenging presidency in spite of his victory we'll have to see we'll have to watch out for the senate we will also have to watch all of it for all the challenges else that he's facing and we're just looking at the pump damage that we're seeing a record numbers here right now again all right in a wilmington i thank you very much for that when it crossed back over now it to pennsylvania that's the big that was the big prize that has appeared to push biden
6:16 pm
over the edge toward the presidency to become president elect of the united states i hear that honking again stuff on what's the mood by. oh well i'm going golfing they call her on honking symphony here passing by and i would love for my cameraman to just show you to the side of us easy oh i'm not alone here there's a convention center behind me and there are colleagues from c.n.n. and other networks start next to us and we're all doing the same and there's a young crowd predominantly younger on the last few minutes actually moving to around the corner of this building this is was to see where we had in the last few days last 2 or 3 days this standoff between pro count the vote biden harry supporters and trump supporters so they're all heading there this will be i think it will be more of a party mode there festival mode around the corner and we're going to head there so bottom line is and this is what i'm trying to say is that at least this is
6:17 pm
a 1st impression people in philadelphia who have in my opinion been very sure that this will be the outcome anyway this is a heavily democratic county and city here they're very happy about the news of course that joe biden is now called or declared to the president elect and will be the $46.00 president of the united states however there is scheduled a protest in harrisburg at the capital of pennsylvania by trump's supporters a steal the vote and to steal the vote protest i've no information so far as this actually materializes right now but as my esteemed colleagues pointed out the trumpeting ministration the president self and his supporters do not show any sign of giving up or or trying to. if not. maybe hinder the process go to the courts school school whatever legal actions of the matter is that behind me in this building the last batch of state are released 3000 and something
6:18 pm
votes counted and these are mail in ballots counted put. joe biden statistically and mathematically over the top there is no way. experts the titian math math people who are maybe much better in math and i am thinking now that the president could make up the ground in the vote count even if he gets 505560 percent of any other vote count from though on through the next few days because the next few days don't forget that they steal still keep county not just year but everywhere in the country in every other state and of course of the counties around the in pennsylvania also allegheny county towards pittsburgh in the surrounding counties montgomery is that right here and so on so count is going on and nobody expects for pennsylvania the results to change dramatically and this is
6:19 pm
exactly the reason why you hear a lot on king and celebrating here and why all the networks see of the mystic networks and as we pointed out called this election in favor of joe biden and sarah and they've been waiting with bated breath for the last 4 days as have has everyone around the world jeff and simon's in a pennsylvania thank you so much for that you know bringing those latest numbers from pennsylvania the post of joe biden over the edge with a 99 percent of the votes in biden has won 49.7 percent of those votes 149.2 now with pennsylvania joe biden has passed the threshold of 270 electoral college votes needed to win the presidency joe biden's victory crowns a long political career one of that included 2 previous failed presidential beds and 8 years in office as barack obama's 2nd in command a 2nd closer look now at the man who will be in charge of the white house for the next 4 years. it began half
6:20 pm
a century ago at 29 joseph biden was one of the youngest candidates ever elected to the u.s. senate his success though laced with sadness when just weeks later his wife and daughter died in a car accident he remarried and made his 1st presidential bed in 1808 and again 20 years later my grandmother would yell out spread the faith. he was chosen to be barack obama's running mate. the best vice president barack has ever had mr joe biden. and he resigned to never quite reach in the nation's highest office until donald trump came along that's why the dam announcing my candidacy for president of the united states. that we have to with his decades of experience biden said he was the man to restore america's standing in the world that he was the man for the moment. i'll be a president will stand with our allies and friends and make it clear to our adversaries the days of cozying up to dictators is over he promised
6:21 pm
a sure leadership in the midst of the coronavirus condemning. it's estimated that nearly another 210000 americans could lose their lives by the end of the year and nothing no more. let's just set partisanship aside our butts and the politics and follow the signs. ultimately the voters agreed and made joseph biden the 46 president of the united states of america hard time lucky. 3rd time lucky indeed let's cross now again to our washington correspondent so me someone who has been following this election that closely so i mean joe biden there speaking about the coronavirus pandemic which has really overshadowed this entire race and fair to say to find it in fact what is joe biden's plan to help stem those
6:22 pm
cases in the united states. well he said that on day one he would immediately work to make sure that they can control the virus and part of that plan clear is going to be making sure that local state so states and local communities have the resources that they need so medical equipment that they need to be able to deal with outbreaks and i should say that this out this make in the u.s. is still raging across the country so this is very much still an issue and that's why it was to begin shoe on the ballot as you said but that plan is going to involve making sure that they have the medical equipment necessary that the states are in the position to go into lockdown or to open back up when needed without resistance from the white house because that is something that we've seen from president time and again complaining about states making the decision to lock down when they are experiencing outbreaks and it will also be about coordinating it in a more centralized fashion you know one of the benefits of having these states
6:23 pm
being able to go into lockdown when needed is obviously that they can address some of these outbreaks locally but there has not been very much coordination on the federal level and that is something that joe biden has promised to do as well as to make sure that his white house really takes control has a task force in place and that he wouldn't undermine that task force don't forget the president trumpets criticize the leading infectious disease expert dr found she here various times recently calling him just ahead of the election an idiot and the scientists as well not to be trusted so i think you will see a bringing together of resources more coordination at the white house from joe biden as well and an effort as soon as the vaccine becomes available clear to make sure that that can be effectively rolled out to as many people as possible but until then making sure that as many americans can be kept as safe as possible and clear one more point on that i think joe biden has been very clear about the fact that he wants to make sure people who are uninsured right now because they might have lost their jobs or because they didn't have insurance in the 1st place that they also have access to care so that's going to be very high on his agenda because
6:24 pm
that's right naturally outstanding conditions that. you can't get treated over concerns about health care in the united states does make people more susceptible to this virus now i think we can say that this administration will probably be friendlier to doctor but actually come across to us daisy and ask do you think that the corona virus was the thing in the end there really toppled the polls against donald trump i mean we've seen one thing that been really interesting about his presidency is that his approval rating has remained fairly standard over the 4 years usually in american presidency when you see big events that affect how people report their favorable viewing of the president but in this case he had a consistently fairly low bias consistent approval rating was coronavirus the thing that eventually did him in well yes in short because he wanted to be able to run on the strength of the economy and because the coronavirus and the corner virus fall out he was unable to do so millions of people were on our we're out of work we're
6:25 pm
on unemployment. struggling there were food lines and one of the richest countries in the world so yeah the corner virus was front and center and the president had an opportunity to really take control sumi was talking about a federal response they are there was a lack of one if he would have come out and been straightforward the american people this is how we can handle is this where mask will close up for a little bit but then open up gradually and letting people get back to work he could have taken control of the narrative but and said he chose to pretend like the coronavirus did not exist and he would go from state to state as he was frenetically running across the country the last couple weeks of the election but these battleground states that blue wall that we keep talking about michigan michigan wisconsin pennsylvania those are those those states were experiencing high numbers of coronavirus cases so you can't go there and tout that you're handling
6:26 pm
the virus that that there's a fix in sight just around the. corner when people see that their neighbors and friends and loved ones are ill and sore and trump eventually ignored the krona virus at his own peril because he was of course stricken with the illness often allies at walter reed medical center for several days but that didn't really seem to change his mind when he came out of top medical care which we should also say is not american it's not available to every american that is 800 resembled the socialized medicine that he says that he hates the treatment that he got yeah well so he came out hadn't really seemed to change his mind i mean do you think typically you know in politics in countries around the world not just the united states presidents a don't want to be seen as weak presidents go to great lengths to avoid showing any kind of weakness if they need a surgery if they need a treatment 1st summer or something sometimes you see leaders of other countries you know going flying to other countries to get that treatment in the secret just of the population doesn't know that they're weakened sure do you think this
6:27 pm
affected donald trump's image as a strong man that he was someone who could fall victim to something that he said it yeah i think that he thought so i think that when you look at. strength has many faces right when we look at other leaders around the world like will start here in berlin merkel the chancellor she came out directly she focused on the science she spoke to people about the importance of mask she laid out how germany was going to deal with the coronavirus and then eventually having meetings with different state leaders in order to adapt to the coronavirus trump had an opportunity to say look i was struck in by this disease i understand how impactful it can be it's real this is where we what we do now this is what we do next and his followers you know are devoted they would have followed him they would have listened to what he said but he chose to ignore it and his mind yes being sick was weak and when he got better
6:28 pm
he said i got better because i'm a superman and ignore the fact that he was on to experimental drugs that most americans cannot get their hands on all right thank you very much stacy we are now going to get some reactions from the streets see what people have been saying let's take a listen. we want. to believe that our our. best for the united states and i made history. very. very thankful. all right let's cross back now to series i was going to talk here in the studio. it's an exciting day for all of us but i want to cross back over to sue me get the weather forecast over there and also find out you know we're watching this programming for me here in europe from berlin germany where not just americans but the entire world has been watching this election is so anxiously
6:29 pm
particularly america's allies after trump cast doubt on a partnership what do you think from where you stand in washington d.c. what do you think this new administration is going to bring for europeans. well just a quick weather update i should say that a few blocks away from here there are a lot of people out in front of the white house who are celebrating right now as well and our ines poll is just getting set up there social be bringing us some of those voices and pictures really soon but i think what we can expect from president elect joe biden at this point is a return to normal to turn to return to multilateralism an affirmation of the importance of working together with allies which are welcome words there in germany certainly across europe as well you know we will see the president elect certainly reaffirm that commitment to nato so these shared security and shared values that have really underscored the alliance between europe and the u.s.
6:30 pm
in other parts of the world for so many years now and we will also see him return to some of these international institutions we heard you know as we were just talking about the covert 1910 democrat biden said that he would reverse president trump's decision to withdraw from the world health organization that he would also join the paris climate accord so we affirming america's commitment to fighting climate change what we will also see from joe biden we should say is a similar approach towards china not in rhetoric necessarily in tone or in tone but the aim will be very similar in taking a tougher line on china but there is well we will likely see president elect joe biden try to work together with allies on finding a common line on china and finding a common approach towards iran towards russia and so i think that is something that america's allies around the world can look forward to and that is why there's been so much relief now looking at twitter some of the reactions i've seen on twitter that he has now been named president elect joe biden for the rest of the world as well claire and just bring.
