ah, abby tobin's night simply for the world starts to simmer night on t.w. . this is the w. news live from the transition to a biden administration formally begins in the u.s. . the federal government agrees to begin the handover process with biden's team. after weeks of stalling by the trump white house over allegations of voter fraud. also on the program. activists showed evidence that congress can do any spending is

riddled with corruption. but critics trying to hold the powerful to account fear, they will soon be silenced. and china's unmanned spacecraft rockets to the moon with a mission to bring back lunar rock samples. and after the ports china firmly on the map off spacefaring nations i'm gathered as well come to the program. 3 weeks after the u.s. election, president elect joe biden has finally been given the green light to start the transition process. president on a trump tweeted tuesday that he was directing his administration to cooperate in the handover process. it's the closest he's come to conceding defeat. meanwhile, biden has pushed ahead and begun announcing nominations for his own up ministration . president elect joe biden efficiently revealed his picks for the top

positions of his cabinet, monday, signaling his readiness to take over the helm, biden's foreign policy and national security choices. mark a clear shift away from trump's america 1st doctrine. instead, a lot of familiar faces from the obama administration. so many that some are calling it the obama administration 2.0. the choice is signaled biden's intention to return to a more traditional way of doing business and interacting with other countries' biden's choices or veterans with many years of experience like his longtime adviser, antony blinken, named for the position of secretary of state. he will be tasked with steering the country back towards the paris climate agreement, the world health organization, and they run a nuclear deal. the best known of the nominees is former secretary of state john

at least with the transition post office officially under way, some of the uncertainty and turbulence of the past weeks seems to be settling down here over the joins me in the studio to have a closer look at this. after 3 weeks of this transition period, it's finally going ahead. now, deal is this. well, under normal circumstances, wouldn't be that big of a deal, right? i mean, usually these transitions historically have been something that's happened quite automatically, seamlessly. formality is essentially, but in this case it is a big deal for exactly that reason. trump has gone out of his way to stall the transition process, not being willing to concede defeat. and so this is a process that has dragged on for now 2 weeks since biden was or for 16 days. in fact, since biden was declared, the winner. this means for the biden 2, now that they have axes 2. very,

very important from ation such as intelligence data, not just on foreign affairs, but also with regards to the coronavirus. it means that they have access to government data, their full access to the federal agencies. they have millions of dollars that they can now spend to warts. this transition and also they can begin things like background checks so that everybody, an official is ready to go on day one. and that is crucial because the bite not the strain will have to hit the ground running. we're looking at is that, you know, multiple crisis, especially the coronavirus endemic, but also an economic crisis going to be very hard to tackle. so they're going to need to be ready to go on day one. so it's high time that things go ahead. trump has really conceded, though he is promising to continue the fight in the courts. what does johnson? right, i think i think this might be the closes that will get to try conceding, i think maybe this is more like
11:06 am
a to taunt in the 16 day standoff. and it does suggest that trump is slowly beginning to bow out of the pressure that we've seen in recent days from more prominent republican members. just yesterday we saw more than 100 security experts from the republican party, essentially coming out urging trump to concede defeat, to, you know, pave the way for this transition. but at the same time, as you said, he has vowed to keep on fighting. we're still seeing lawsuits requesting a recount in georgia in wisconsin, both of which are going to be very likely to change the outcome. usually if anything, they change maybe a few 100 votes, that's not going to be enough to change result there. michigan came out yesterday saying that they've now certified the result by the winner of that state. and so i have very, very strong doubts that his legal challenges will change anything. at this point. you mentioned georgia going to have a report later in the show. biden has started announcing his cabinet picks and it's
11:07 am
quite a very slate of people. what does that say about is a ministration? well, it says, i think that this is essentially going to be the anti trump government, you know, unlike many of president trump's picks, specially in his 1st term were, you know, people with a lot of business experience, the business leaders, but with very little political experience. biden's picks really read like an ode to public service. you're looking at people like, you know, financially, secretary of state, anthony blinken, who's a veteran foreign policy adviser who's served in washington in some capacity in, over 3 decades. the u.s. ambassador to the u.n., linda thomas greenfield, who has nearly 4 decades in the foreign affairs. so in many ways, this is something that's much closer to a technocratic government also, and also real marks, a strong departure from trump's america 1st approach. you know,
11:08 am
when biden announces, he said that their leaders who look like america reflect my core, believe that america is back and that we need not just by the example or power, but by the power of our example. and if you look at john kerry, if i think in just this last point, he set is new climate czar who says it will be an honor to work with our allies and partners alongside rising young leaders in a climate movement to tackle climate crisis with the seriousness an urgency it deserves that is going to be likely to be music, to a lot of europeans ears and internationally to around the world. thank you. thank you much. easily joe biden can push through his agenda as president could come down to the u.s. state of georgia. peter mentioned a moment ago to runoff elections in january. that will decide if the democrats all the republicans get control of the u.s. senate to washington bureau chief in his poor visits at once small town in georgia to examine the political divide more closely. in the heart of one of the most

doing his bit to level george allen's political playing field for decades. he was the 1st democrat to have been elected from this area to the georgia senate, and also served as milledgeville is mayor. the bottom line is ratios on here and in america to present majority, the white community are going to be in a minority here pretty soon. and they fear that the black and brown people are going to take over. the divisions here in milledgeville, broadly reflect those of the whole of the usa bringing together people who feel as differently as floyd, griffin, and, and shop owner. larry used to do is a major challenge. but they need to work together on the many problems in the country. and in the town, stephen hall was or has some ideas. he is the director of the local library and

helps organize the initiative on the table. brings people together to discuss local issues in a constructive way. he approaches low drama and encourages everyone to get involved . i think the biggest issue for us is what is america? we've had a lot of changes in the last couple years and a lot of the norms that we've had for better or for worse have gone away. and i think we're looking at a future of what is our value, what are our ideas of how we should behave toward each other? and what is the common purpose that we have? i think we've lost a little track about and i'd love to see that come together in the future for that americans have to start listening to one another and stop shouting over each other . the other stories making headlines this hour. the u.n. has expressed concern over the safety of civilians in ethiopia. take right region,

11:14 am
germany's government preparing? well, at the moment, vaccination centers are being set up all around to counter you, but 1st, there won't be no vaccines for everyone. but the supply will of course, increase over time as production increases. there's a 2 phases to t.g. . during the 1st phase, vulnerable people will be prioritized. i'm thinking about the elderly, the 1st responders and vaccinations will take place in those centers and through mobile teams. then there will be a 2nd phase, once the vaccine will be more broadly available and then the general public will have access to eat. and the vaccine will also be available not only in those centers, but those who have medical practices, just like any other vaccine ministers. will meet every 2 weeks not to discuss the measures, but christmas is just around the corner. has there been any use on restrictions over the holiday period? yes, state premiers agreed on monday evening to extend the current measures and to december
11:15 am
20th. i'm going to america have to say that if it were up to her to measure is would already be much stricter, but she has to find a come on line with this a prime news as well. now on wednesday we could see tougher measures being adopted for the coming months, such as more restrictions when it comes to socialising. up until christmas, the number of people allowed to meet will be reduced from 10 people to 5, but there will be an exception for christmas, where up to 10 people will be allowed to meet us. so churches will be allowed to conduct religious services and people will be encouraged to self isolate those before and after disintegrations and keeping schools and kinda gods seems to be a priority at the moment. why's that? well, the government made clear very early on the, during this pandemic that he wanted the schools to remain open when possible. but on the same time they reason need to reduce infection, waits within the younger population as well. and the discussion around stricter rules is very much on the social distancing mosque crowding out. schools quarantine

that, for example, a mandatory mosques in schools has made a very controversial measures so far. we could see it becoming a rule in areas weighs more than 50 cases, perhaps 100000 inhabitants. homeschooling, for example. this is something that will be decided on the local level by each state. so we can really see how controversial the school topic is here in germany. thank you very much of a political correspondent time to have a look now. at some other developments in the global pandemic, the australian state of queensland has announced that it's opening its border with new south wales on december 1st. it comes after the new south wales, which includes sydney reported no few new transmissions for $28.00 days. sweden has introduced a set of new measures to contain the rapid growth of new infections, public gatherings, and are limited to 8 people. sweden adopt the less stringent programme to fight the

the neverland's have already announced that it's important that they cannot, they cannot back down. it's important now to act. however, we also have to say that for the european union, it is important to, to build a political consensus. there are many areas that require all the e.u. members to be on board that require unanimous approval. when you deal with the budget, when you deal with foreign policy issues and actually now all eyes are on kul, germany holds the european council president c. and will talk to hungry, hungry prime minister all down to his polish colleagues to to try to solve this crisis you mentioned the unanimous need for you, none of the decisions could be on the e.u. member states. go ahead and at least get the coronavirus aid found on track by themselves. yes, actually they could do this according to the e.u.
