the steel object, appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the desert, and then vanished just as suddenly without a trace. but who put it there? and why? these venues prompted a conspiracy theory. our reporter will tell you more. on michael, welcome. we start in france where the government is under pressure after police clashed with protesters in the capital, paris demonstrations erupted over a new security bill that would restrict the right to publish images of police officers. the issue came into focus after footage emerged of police beating up in racially abusing a black music producer. opponents say the law would prevent such images becoming public and could come up. official misconduct. police and

demonstrators clashed violently as night falls and the french capital journalists and participants document the events publish videos and images. some might call this a fitting end to a day of protest for freedom of expression and against a new security bill. this would make it a crime to publish a photo or video off the face or any identifying element of a police officer with the intent to cost harm. i. the protest began peacefully, media organizations, ensuring rights groups organized marches across the country. tens of thousands gathered in paris alone. i think there are already rules which provide for the protection of officials, including police officers when they're on duty. and that's entirely legitimate

because the police do a very important jobs for. but that's not what we're talking about here. it's about wanting to limit the ability of citizens, including journalists to report to police violence. the government says it wants to protect the police from public abuse. but opponents see the new bill as a drift towards repressive government was good on their own candidate and created a bill that would forbid us from filming at a time when we are filming unbelievable things. so here i am in the streets free for my freedom, as you can see, written on my mosque of weakness. and when i ask if i normally more concern for me, a law like this is not normal. if this law passes, it would mean that people like the poor guy from the video. i mean, if it hadn't been filmed, he'd be in jail, makes a break. if you make this video galvanized the opposition. 3 police officers in paris beat up a black man, a music producer in his own studio,

unaware they were being recorded. the victim was detained until footage from the security camera was published. protesters started fires in paris. the interior ministry says $37.00 police officers were injured in demonstrations nationwide. the new security bill has already passed the lower house of the french parliament and is now before the senate. standing by for more is our correspondent lisa lewis . lisa, what's the latest on the investigation into those police officers? well, the police offices will now have to appear in front of an investigative judge. that means that, that judge will then decide if he will or will not open a formal investigation. they could be accused of, you know, authority of force as a, a person in public authority and a face fines of, you know,

several tens of thousands of years and several years in jail. let's talk about the proposed security law that along with the officers behavior has angered protesters . of course, what's the rationale behind it? have there been major instances of public abuse of police officers? well, there has not been one major incident. incidents actually relate, but it's just a general trend because if you look at the figures provided by the police and the number of police offices on active duty that were injured, it has almost doubled within 15 years in france. 119 that number reached about 7400 people, but this is also clearly a strategy by the government to appeal to right wing. they chose their next presidential elections will happen in 2022. so just 2 years from now, and i'm a car the president is trying to capture the great of those who could otherwise

maybe vote for the other candidate that might get through to the 2nd round of fate . and that's marine le pen from the far right. what will happen next? how likely is it that this law will be passed into force by the french senate while the french senate can either, you know, agree to that law in its current form. and then it might be in trying to know really or it actually can say, we don't agree with the current form that the law will have to go to the national assembly. actually, the senate doesn't have the last word on this. however, the government seems to be acknowledging that there's a lot of business opposition and has now put implies a special commission that will come up with a possible amendments of the law that say it looks like the last word is not spoken yet as to how this law might look like off, it might be dropped actually. the solution paris for us really appreciate it. lisa, a new wave of rocket attacks launched from ethiopia's. northern to gray region has

anguish for many refugees is the lack of information about what is happening to their loved ones back home. because the government has cut, internet and phone lines to the region, aid agencies are also urging the authorities to open a humanitarian corridor to allow them to help people on the ground. let's have a look at some of the other stories making news at this hour. at least 30 people have been killed in a suicide bombing in afghanistan in the eastern city of gaza. need the attacker drove a vehicle full of explosives onto an army commando base. afghanistan has seen a surge in attacks since the taliban started peace talks with the government. 2 months ago. temperatures in parts of australia rose above 40 degrees celsius for a 2nd straight day over the weekend. sydney sweated through the hottest november night on record, but temperatures plunge 10 degrees within 20 minutes on sunday. authorities have

issued a total ban on all fires. as a result of the extreme heat, a massive fireball has lit up the skies over western japan cameras in several regions caught a glimpse of a meteor descending towards the earth and then exploded in a brilliant flash of light. eyewitnesses say it was as bright as a full moon. the object burned up in the earth's atmosphere. no one was harmed. now a steel monolith that was recently discovered in the american desert has now appeared as mysteriously. as it appeared, it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. the monolith was 1st found earlier this month by rangers in the utah desert during a wildlife survey. no wonder officially knows who created the object or what it was intended for. though theories have ranged from an art installation to a prank or even extraterrestrial origin. now the 3 metre tall object has vanished.
3:11 pm
state officials have confirmed that the object disappeared at some point late last week though they say they don't know what or who may have removed. aaron tilton has been on top of this figure of lee. not literally aaron. so what do we know? i mean, who made this thing and where did it go? well, to both those questions, we don't know, and we don't know now satellite for us indicate that this object was most likely erected brought to the desert somewhere around 20152016. there it sat for 4 or 5 years until it was discovered earlier this month, wildlife officials have said that they have visited the location and seen that it has been removed, but they don't know exactly who removed it. they don't know who built it and they don't know who removed it as you were saying there, there are a lot of different theories about who could have actually built it. and right now some people are saying it could be a prop from

a movie that might have been shooting out there. other people are saying it was a prank. a lot of people really seem to be focusing on some type of art installation at the moment, but we really don't know it to be actually honest. so we really don't know what it is. and this area hasn't been known in the past to sort of attract mysterious, inexplicable objects. well, this is actually where it gets interesting. this area of the world of the desert is often used for movie productions actually in 20152016. when this object was originally built or constructed in the west world, the h.b.o. science fiction t.v. series was being filmed in that desert. and of course, they are not saying that they were involved in the creation of this, but movies like this are shot out there quite often. however, one of the reasons people are focusing on an art installation is because, well, in the american sculpture community, there is a tradition of building objects like this and leaving them in the high desert in the hopes that they'll eventually be found. because that kind of adds to the mysterious and some of it, it kind of adds to that by genesee qua of the installation. so there are a lot of artists who have actually been pointed out where they're saying like, hey,
3:13 pm
is this one of your pieces? actually one of the names which i'm not going to say on the air where a lot of people are saying this could have been the artist behind this. he's known to have been a fan of 2001, a space odyssey, which is what a lot of people think of when they look at this monolith. you know, at the end of the day, we really don't know. and you know, it's part of the reason you know, it's disappearing right now in such a mysterious way kind of indicates that it might have been an art project because that just adds to the layers of mystery one on top of the other. as i hear you talk, i'm hearing the theme music for the of the x. files for some reason, but that aside, what do you think? what's your theory? well, i personally, i'd love it to be aliens. i'd love to be some type of extra show connection to it. i mean, i grew up watching the x. files. i'm glad you mentioned that. but it really does look like it's a piece of art because at the end of the day, all the mystery surrounding it just kind of gets people talking and more and more, which i think was the intention of the artist who is most likely behind its construction which likelihood weeks from now we're going to find out that this was

the 1st move in some sort of big publicity stunt or that, that, you know, you can't rule that out. i mean, we've seen things like this in the past with like, with, you know, with, with arm alternate reality games online like teasing the season, the start of some big movie or some project. but, you know, also hollywood is shut down right now. so i mean, who knows if it could be part of, a big p.r. scheme, but yes, we'll have to wait and see aaron children from v.w., of course. thank you, aaron for that. thank you. in boxing, the so-called battle of the ages between mike tyson and roy jones jr. didn't end up packing much of a punch. the exhibition on saturday night between the over 50 boxers was ruled a draw. tyson was the aggressor during about and was in control the entire way. but jones did a great job staying away from tyson's punch-out power. the 54 year old tyson said he'd like to find again after going 8 rounds with jones you're
