germany gets ready for a longer winter lockdown as authorities struggle to control the surgeon infections state leaders say they're still not enough social distancing and they're urging tougher measures to keep things from getting worse. and we'll take a look. at the impact the krona virus is having on young people how the pandemic is putting the brakes on a generation to head out into the world. a michael who walk into the program in germany has logged another day with more than 10000 new corona virus infections this comes after a deadly december when more people died of covert 19 in germany then in the rest of

the pandemic taken together and that happened despite a nationwide lockdown now the leaders of the country's states are urging tougher action to keep numbers down until enough people can be vaccinated. there is snow again and for a few moments the feel of a holiday in the midst of a coronavirus winter despite appeals from police and government officials parking lots are full as are the slopes even the local tourist boards in northern germany's parts mountains say stay away to no avail. present i don't know if it's the open air and here we're not afraid we're only 2 households together so we're following the rules. all the crowding here is relative with the space we're able to keep one and a half meters apart like we're supposed to. so what is still ok and what is need be not so much questions facing families longing to escape the dreariness of

a lockdown as overburdened hospitals see ever increasing infection rates and. our clinics are overstretched are running above 90 percent capacity so we have a very large number of severe cold 1000 cases and we've had high numbers of deaths to deal with in recent weeks. to see him to ease the burden on hospitals germany is considering extending the present lockdown the vaccination rollout may be making progress but there are still too few of the lifesaving shots available deadlocked on the lockdown must be extended beyond january 10th it will have to be until we have more back seen we have to deal with a long lockdown now in a realistic way we need an infection rate below $25.00 per 100000 people not just 15 or germany is still a long way from that often months once a week new stuff and finish the leaders of germany 16 states will meet tuesday to

discuss extending the lockdown they've already said they want the existing measures to remain in place but there's disagreement over whether to open schools and daycare centers a patchwork of lockdown regulations may result in snowy areas though tougher measures are already in the works for near immediate effect since the current rules are not being taken as seriously as officials had hoped. 2020 will surely be remembered for the krona virus pandemic which is far from over restrictions and lock downs have had a huge impact on the younger generation how they dealt with it and how has it changed their lives our reporters talked to 4 young people living in berlin. if i think of trying the. think of. the grandson monk and you get that if you don't have the skull. so bad. because.

5:07 pm
. well i think it depends on the age of the child or the teenager but certainly what a common theme has been is this lack of social contact this is missing of friends missing just being out with another group that's been an enormous impact but the ethical one is a slightly less obvious but very powerful impact which is about identity as well so we heard from the teens there actually they had all these plans in place they the whole point of teenage years to spread your wings and gain independence and go see the world don't go and start your career and all of that has been poor given this current virus outbreak so it's been a t. to think you know what i can do it i am resilient i can achieve things that's all been ever i wouldn't because i just haven't been the opportunities to go and give something a try. you know the pen demick has influenced virtually every aspect of young people's lives what effect will something like this potentially long term be having
5:08 pm
on. well the wonderful thing about young people as well is that they are incredibly resilient you know every described them as being quite bouncy and that doesn't mean that they don't feel hurt and sad and lonely and anxious of course they do but because they lessen history behind and they've got far more so hopeful attitude towards the future and so actually hopefully read as professionals and what the research is pointing us towards is that actually beyond this year for example they will return to normal whatever that normal is going to be the actually this is not stop it is just not even a break really breaking except by how coming down again it's about taking things a little bit slower and just in the past year maybe for a few months before things can start off again said the economic impact of this is
5:09 pm
well we're just not too sure about what that will mean for young people but it doesn't mean that these young people are going to be doomed forevermore at all it just means that things may be a year and a half delayed in terms of their travel plans to korea their studies and so we can remain hopeful for them and i say they're incredibly resilient and people in general we have a lot to learn from them you know we only have about 20 seconds i've told my ode to my own 14 year old daughter that you can't sugarcoat the situation that every generation faces a major crisis in this or world war 2 what advice would you give to parents about how to basically help their children deal with this. i think you're absolutely right we can't pretend it's all like hey we can't make 8 k. we can't solve this problem individually so we have to do for young people is valid and their feelings acknowledge yes you do feel sad and frustrated and annoyed but here here are things that you can do right now to help better so that's the best

5:17 pm
there again cutting wherever courses and singers in question are not here. saying anything so let's begin if for no november mario van zandt go takes up the baton. as we're still scaled down to less reduced because make it more subtle the ever gets here. when the rehearsals freak out germany was under semi lockdown businesses were open schools and while the fantasies were closed rehearsals were announcement of a corona version of shorts the same opera common the orchestra for it is only half the usual size. and. the cider wastes don't wear masks but they sing from behind taxi class to prevent transmission of the virus singing is thought to be especially infectious.
5:18 pm
thank you cover everything is a bit too heavy this specific 10 in the morning trial lighter version ok i get a fossil to look into. your. the singer cast for the role of common is prevented from traveling by the coronavirus so here the understudy sings how are years of love and passion subject to the current hygiene regulations. man. was. the thing to dance all it can to ensure reconciles can go on. it does and this is an air purifier. i don't know what the professionals call it.
5:19 pm
this purifies the air so we can sing god bless risk. without wearing masks as i am it's a box my sentiment mustn't we mostly were hers with masks on anyway. and we don't know yet for sure how it'll be when we eventually sing on the stage with masks on the v.m. it must mean saying you know we won't have the purifier that we can get ourselves tested before the performance tests it doesn't solve the problem it's just an extra precaution that we'll be working with masks and distancing anyway but we don't know which passages will be doing at. this end of the assistant a food is a terrible situation if you and i john a lot yes of course i'm afraid it would be and i protect myself the best i can sophie and i get tested as often as i can. but it weighs on your soul of the spirit it weighs like a black dog on your salsas you need of. yes
5:20 pm
. even subjecting themselves to events. but at this time the performance was still hoping they'd be able to play to an audience in december. for they had no intention of being upstaged by the virus some collective fortunately i already had grown up a few months ago not to want my doctors say i've still got the antibodies but of course you always have to be careful and out. of it but i know what you go through with this virus. how was it for you awful i'm still tired. at least she's gone to voice back. is relatively small some of the. instruments hamp the potential to blow the virus
5:21 pm
into the yeah to others don't. know if you let the brass players pose the least danger because we blow in here and the air goes through 2 meters of tubes before it comes out back here no aerosols come out. exponent so tested this and confirmed that the brass bands are the cleanest members of the orchestra. this group the real problem is with the singers they really project and it looks as not worth. the. an entirely different kind of problem is that many of the orchestra members at the subsidized shasta county corpus are under contract but others are not freelance musicians many of whom haven't performed in months. the.
5:22 pm
venue did it you want to get the governments of the phasers don't support those freelance performers we might just wind up living under a bridge by the time the pandemics over in soviet ethnic and we're going to be around because we have to survive somehow when done via the not quite a if you want to keep having opera you're going to have to help us now we screwed up. the 2 managers in coppers know that tune. the whisper down signal become louder voices after the sun. is. established over is only i don't believe it or end up going on stage anyway to be honest but you never know what's coming how does it make you feel when you say the production might not make it on the stage in this foam. this in give on from i'm sorry used to tossing out our plans from one day to the next and making 2 of us and you know it's a feeling that we are pieces that might ever be performed or will get done differently or the on the stuff. if you think this is then
5:23 pm
a gun is an enormous challenge for the 1st in a make no mistake this is an occupational therapy is that the small every time we are completely committed to the concept and the only for it to be overturned by events is it in so we're all season by all this up he can adapt in ourselves our imaginations to something different every time in cup and still for believing in it in math and love and a few hours afterwards came the next sent back the entire opera choir was supposed to rehearse together but the latest figures for new infections are alarming the choir had to be cancelled for today it puts money opens argo and director of stuff on mackie in a difficult situation there coordinating the. other much as the figures rise so do the individual fears and questions we have to deal with on a daily basis that if i take those fears quite seriously and i believe we should take them seriously because it's hard to rehearse with fear so they went in with
5:24 pm
guns that's why we said ok not today. or tomorrow we'll discuss how we can deal with it here in the middle income instead of acquiring a mass commons pot by itself. very tenderly. but that's missing is the other lasted a bit too trivial closeness so client. in phrase death toll musically you call it. death when it's a mosque it's the only way the dancer winston ricardo on on can bring carmen under his spell. yes it is.
5:25 pm
yeah. now the choreography is sad but the big question remains is. when's the premiere. well that's a really difficult question. to weeks later than ready for a dress rehearsal the singer cast in the role of carmen has finally been able to make the trip. but the audience has not with cases of covert 19 rising in concourse the lockdown was extended and the theaters remain closed. it's up to the theaters to make things happen in the film because there's no shortage of reasons not to do something in these carona times. if all goes well they can hold a real premiere once the pandemics over whenever that maybe even in the face of all
5:26 pm
the some sudden tears they're giving it their all. this is that this is the job we have to deal with for a musician since you are singers sing for the entire theater and everyone involved it that it is. sent by the so they can perform to the best of their abilities and with the greatest dedication and. this may be one of the most important jobs of my life minus the prince. eventually they even rehearse with the choir. to help calm the singers fears the director didn't stand them shoulder to shoulder on the stage but well spaced throughout the gallery. and then would stop with one let down of course is that we're not allowed to dance you can't put the choreography on the stage the way they worked it out and often.

i feel like an expectant mother waiting for her baby to arrive but not allowed to give birth. common and one love and gone for say will never even get to that point. was. in this oprah about love and passion regulations prohibit so much as a night kiss it might be heartless but at least it's healthful.
