well this is trying to risk you get grease and like eat and. the shell enclosed an island already cloak you need at the receive every mark luckily feature of man. grease and being sorry. that you gave that number up the minute past feel like not confound it every stick of the r.c.c. the stakes are 60 so we are the elite in florida city gay i am opened. so clearly there have been signs of debris on the waterways there and there's some debate about how many people might actually have been on the plane but i understand that you might have seen something on that island is that correct yes i was in one they are not. planning to fly.
2:04 pm
and then i saw this same plane heating. and because every member of the flight number when. we leave the same plane fly back to back to from the are not and then the last one so i remembered the number of the fly and it's the same flight. that i saw in one piano and ok it sounds bass essentially that you saw this plane but you didn't see the plane when it was in a position of any sort of distress really really appreciate your time with us. thank you so much thank you. with less than 2 weeks left of donald trump's time in office twitter has announced it is permanently suspending the president you count saying trump has repeatedly violated policies on glorifying violence it's
2:05 pm
a huge blow for the president as he is stripped of his favorite communication tool at the same time he faces growing calls to step down or risk impeachment after a week that has left the united states reeling. the world watched as hundreds of trump supporters stormed the u.s. capitol. several arrests have been made to since wednesday's events the man who is pictured sitting at speaker pelosi is desk has turned himself in. and a republican lawmaker from west virginia is facing a criminal charge after breaking into the building. president donald trump has finally agreed to a peaceful transfer of power but tweeted that he would not be going to the inauguration of his successor this turned out to be one of his final tweets as
2:06 pm
twitter permanently suspended his account just hours later this followed president elect joe biden's comment that trump was unfit for office. is one of the most incompetent. presidents in the history of the united states for merck indicated he wasn't going to show up at the inauguration one of the few things he and i ever dreamed of. it's a good thing i'm not sure enough. security at the capitol is being ramped up ahead of inauguration day which will take place in less than 2 weeks even the national guard has been deployed. so what may be the most tumultuous week in donald trump's presidency call mineta and with the president losing his biggest bullhorn his twitter account to talk more about this i'm joined now by peter really
2:07 pm
dull from our u.s. elections team peter what are we to make of all of this right i think you know by any measure this is a big blow to the president who is finding himself increasingly isolated in the wake of wednesday's events you know throughout his presidency trump is really use this platform in a way that's completely abandoned the traditional ways of you know for presidents to communicate with the public he's essentially used it to circumvent the traditional media filters if you will communicate directly with his some 90000000 followers that have their own twitter so essentially twitter is now taking away trump's super power if you will. you know it also follows facebook on thursday announcing that it was suspending his account trans account indefinitely at least until after inauguration and there have been a lot of calls for these social media giants to do just this not just for this week
2:08 pm
but really for years the problem nor the tough balancing act for these companies has always been we are still looking at a sitting president who has been broadcasting his thoughts and it has been a unique window into his thoughts even to the extent of the national archive which archives every presidential documents at that he wanted to also have access to all his tweets because they're considered you know policy directives and and so forth so you know that i think again really goes to show that trump is being increasingly isolated in this way and weeks of the presidency doesn't the president have other options here. when he could tweet on parlor which is a conservative site or there's even been some discussion he's indicated that he would create a stone platform yeah there for a minute in a tweet that's now unavailable he said that he's looking into the possibilities of building his own platform in the near future and saying he will not be silenced and this is a gripe that a lot of his supporters of hot with social media especially twitter and facebook
2:09 pm
where they feel like their conservative voices have really been silenced that they have been the target of what they see as kind of a liberal conspiracy to drown out their voices. i do think though trump can move yes absolutely to more fringe sites like parlor but cutting him cutting the court to twitter means essentially that his soapbox has been shrunk dramatically it's much much harder for him to broadcast his thoughts to the public and people went out to actively seek out trump if they want that the only concern i will say is that you know will this mean that we're seeing increased bubbles where we are now just never going to get to that shared reality that a lot of people are plentiful right now peter really delve thank you so much appreciate it thank you. that's now take a look at some of the other stories making news around the world at this hour
2:10 pm
rescue workers in russia are racing to find survivors of an avalanche that very tourist happens in a siberian ski resort emergency workers pulled a teenager out alive but said his parents and siblings were found dead authorities have not yet confirmed how many people were trapped. 10 newborns have been killed by a fire that tore through a hospital in the indian state of maharashtra the babies were in the neonatal care unit when the blaze broke out in the early hours of saturday staff managed to rescue 7 infants the government has ordered an investigation and safety on. the u.k. has recorded its highest number of daily deaths from the kota virus since the start of the pandemic with a new variant that appears to be more transmissible surging across a country authorities are particularly alarmed by the situation in london mirror study can says the virus is out of control in the capital and hospitals are facing
2:11 pm
a breaking point. coronavirus patients are flooding london's hospitals on friday alone there were 800 enough to fill even a large facility almost all intensive care staff are working overtime and other departments are being converted into intensive care units. one nurse cries tears of desperation things can only go on like this for a week before collapse the hospital see. over rows and rows of uncivil. comments on ourselves of us on our families and this on itself for the most. ambulances queue outside the emergency unit normally they're called out 5 of those in times a day at the moment that number is almost 1000 police and firefighters are being called in to help out as drivers london's mayor has declared a state of emergency. room
2:12 pm
over the course of the next couple weeks. and there are people going to hospital we could be. a 3rd vaccine this one from madonna has been approved but the health minister experienced 1st hand the difficulty of administering 2000000 vaccinations a week in one clinic the vaccine was notable by its absence precious time lost in the fight to keep london's hospitals from collapse. we're joined now by a london correspondent very good bird good britain's national health service says it's made plans to vaccinate all frontline staff against covert 19 in the next few weeks how realistic is that hundreds of thousands of people all being vaccinated every week for example last week there were over 300000 people
2:13 pm
vaccinated sue this effort is seen as one of the successes of the u.k. on the other hand when it comes to frontline staff to doctors and nurses there's been quite a bit of criticism that there hasn't been. a good approach by the government and critics say it's been ad hoc and they haven't been systematically prioritized so i'm sure this new shift will be welcomed by all these people who want to protect frontline staff i've spoken to one i've been in touch with one nurse she is in one she works in one of the biggest teaching hospitals in london and she has told me that they are not being vaccinated as yet that they're still prioritizing the elderly and they're waiting for more government guidance so there still seems to be some sort of confusion when it comes to this new policy. my recollection is that london was hit hard during the 1st wave and then you know and now this of course the mayor again saying that the virus is out of control what's the atmosphere like
2:14 pm
in the city. a lot of people are really scared now and see this as a sea change because move people are in hospital that have and with this feeling that if you get sick now and you have to go to hospital in a couple of weeks and wouldn't be beds for everyone i think is the fare that many londoners have on the streets i think are quite quiet restaurants bars of course closed only essential shops supermarkets and pharmacies are open however it might not be enough so there are quite a few experts that say still people are going out too much too much for example nurseries are still open you can still attend religious services saying look looked out on these to be even stricter because this new variant seems to be so much more france miscible that in order to get to grips with this new variation with this new
2:15 pm
variant and even stricter lock down it's to be enforced. in london thank you berger . as you are now up next top gymnast in germany accusing trainer of bullying and mistreatment in world stories the week in reports i'm michael o'connor in berlin for me in the entire news team here thanks so much for watching. we're all set. to go beyond the obvious. we're me live.

as we take on the world. where it's all about the stories that matter to you but about something behind the good people what ever it takes to keep it all running. let me go come up to be such a good looking guy now that w. mark made for our minds. this week on world stories. devastating smaug encourages stock. gymnast's sound the alarm on abuse in germany. but we begin in china things have returned to normal and will haunt from which coronavirus originates and the city is
2:17 pm
celebrating its success. it is almost as if nothing had ever happened. here life is back to normal in the city where the corona virus 1st emerged china has brought infection rates down to almost 0 in an exuberant exhibition the communist party celebrates victory in what it calls its war on the epidemic with tributes to soldiers and medics who work themselves to exhaustion during the outbreak but 1st and foremost the party celebrates self and the general secretary xi jinping was hailed as the man who led the country to victory. john hi is one of them he is on his way to the municipal government. but isn't this the people's government and taking pictures is not allowed. to look
2:18 pm
like a country by music i think they should change their name from the people's government of what it means to the bureaucrats government of mohan. john hi normally lives in the southern city of shouldn't gente but returned home to one hon in january when his father broke his hip the elderly man received free treatment at a military hospital this was where he caught colvin and later died. john rice says his father would still be alive if the authorities in one hand had not covered up the early stages of the outbreak he is trying to file a case in court against the government. so. i've been very upset since i came back to 100. years or so i'm sad and angry at the same time. that's my current state of mind which. i can't stand all this propaganda
2:19 pm
about the achievements in the fight against. all the people who died innocent people who left this world have never been paid proper respect. but few people. speak publicly about their grievances many others appear to have put the experience behind them night life is back on the streets especially young people enjoy their newly returned freedom was one of many places in the woods to struggle with the pandemic the city where it all began is moving on. and international air pollution rankings chinese cities are normally ranked the worst but recently the title has belonged to the curtis capital of bishkek. coal is selling like hotcakes in the freezing cold winter temperatures in the city
2:20 pm
of bishkek average at minus 6 degrees celsius call is an essential good because homes on the outskirts aren't connected to the city's central heating network. bishkek made headlines several times in december for being the number one most polluted city in international air quality ratings but people here say the smog is a problem every year in the winter she kicked in it's just there's a god of fish character that's like this when you leave the city the sky is clear but i don't wish to i think this is because of the negligence of the government and no one is monitoring the situation and the smog as a direct consequence of that market open with the most. lies in a valley and smog covers it like a lid kit it is authorities admit they don't know the exact source of the pollution the country's prime minister recently said this mainly coal powered heating plant could be behind up to 20 percent of the emissions he ordered the government to look into switching to gas. for now though air quality sensors in the city show the air
2:21 pm
is hazardous to people's health the concentration of cancerous particles is several times higher than the norm. environmental activists feel authorities are all talk and no action they are protesting against the city's latest planning document they say new buildings are blocking the wind unlocking the smog inside the city. the plan is only in the interest of the construction lobby the building companies and big all the dark so you can use though. in other countries they would have declared an emergency situation by now but here they just pretend nothing's happening. but for now local environmental inspectors are stuck in forcing existing norms today they're checking the quality of the coal used to heat the boiler at this local school even many government institutions are still heated with coal but . regular people will keep eating with coal because it's the most cost effective we
2:22 pm
can ban the use of coal in the winter people have to live they have to cook. once everyone has access to a gas connection and to an affordable electricity supply they're simply won't be small here anymore. but kyrgyzstan's gas provider raised prices this year and the corona virus has hit the country's cash strapped economy hard so for now the move away from coal and from this layer of smog feels far off. some young gymnast's in germany have been subjected to intimidation humiliation and painful training from their coaches 2 of them share their stories with d.w. . men you know me

and ruby vandyke learning to love gymnastics all over again for many years their love for the sport has disappeared. aged 10 and primed for big things between this move to an elite training center near cologne but when their performance is dipped they say they were called fat and lazy by their coach that's slim's the front is the worst thing was when he said he wouldn't come to competitions with us because we were embarrassing him when you're 14 or 15 you need a coach he supports you no matter how badly the statement one on one occasion during a bar's exercise naomi said she was purposely dropped on her head to teach her a lesson before had he pushed me 2 or 3 times to go down lower but i knew he wasn't holding me properly that's why i didn't go lower and then i did under pressure but he let go of me and said there you see. if. they complain to the local

gymnastics association but say they weren't taken seriously or believed and makes a field day with the problem with devastating affects on their development. at the time they i mean really were given 3 options either put up with the coach quit the sport or as they ended up doing moved to the olympic training center in penates earlier this month problems there were uncovered by the sheiko magazine a dozen other gymnasts accused the head coaching chemists gabrielle of fraser of bullying them and making them train through injury may i mean really say pain killers and injections were handed out freely without prescriptions and without the knowledge of athletes parents but the twins felt they couldn't speak up because of the baggage they'd come with. through be that exceptions came with a price and she was forced to ignore her constant back pain with one coach telling her it was just pretty competition. and she would often tell me i was
2:25 pm
imagining the pain in my back but i didn't know the difference between so muscles and real pain that went on for a year and a half and at some point i. believed i was imagining it is that you can run up a lot of matters now and i don't know if it wasn't her imagination though ruby having been denied access to her mit scans would eventually need an operation. fraser who's been suspended pending an investigation has called all the allegations baseless and says she never overstepped the mark it was her strong denials that prompted naomi and ruby to tell their story. these days the twins only compete in the nationally no longer trimming of international success but at least now they can perform again with a smile on their faces. long commutes to school or a huge problem for many children in south africa. and n.-g.
