very valuable now that. the farmers who are flocked to the capital from all corners of india say the new agricultural laws will devastate their income while benefiting big corporations the government says the reforms won't hurt farmers and refuses to repeal them. farmers are india's most influential voting bloc and the growing rebellion enjoys huge support from all parts of indian society. the protesters were just 3 kilometers from prime minister narendra modi and india's political elite celebrating republic day with ornate be dressed cavalry's and a giant parade. but the government's offer to put the laws on hold for 18 months hasn't gone down well with the farmers and nor has today's tough police response
12:04 pm
you know they threw tear gas on us how long of the farm the supposed to keep tolerating this we've made polite requests to them we told them we have no intent to fight we are peaceful many of labor's army or as tensions rise in delhi the farmers insist they will settle for nothing less than a complete repeal. more on this let's bring in our correspondent michelle giles was in delhi let me stop breach barricades clashes with police you're at one of the protests this morning what can you tell us about the situation right now. but the situation continues to be tense in delhi the farmers managed to reach the iconic red ford in the center of debt this is part of his words that will be decided between the dead and the farmers of the so that he was not surprised this was something that was decided upon by the we decided to look better fuel to the
12:05 pm
city however the now these farmers have been forced out of the way forward as well there are concerns because the casualties being deported from amongst the farmers the police schemes that this was the cause of an accident could have caused tensions are running high another thing that is significant here is that even as clashes beat out even as quickly as deploys force in farmers despondent guy and some farmer he does have come out to see the disbelief this charging percentage and it was not the plan they did not support the violence so the actually seen some of the 1st significant cracks from between the ranks of the bard's very complicated situation there let's circle back for a moment why have these laws made indian farmer so furious. well it's important to understand a thing that's important to understand about these laws nicole is how the government beneath them and how. the government is that could be are actually
12:06 pm
opening up your good unity for almost to sell their told you was outside the government as it needed markets to private buyers to cooperate the government says this will allow farmers to access compared to prices this policy however do not buy it as they were not consulted before these laws were passed and that has caused a deficit of trust the farmer that he didn't try going by as a lot of them will leave from the short prices of government markets by offering high prices in the beginning but when he depress prices even farmers in the lurch they also think the government the pull back on its promise of the short phrases and this one seems farming and bomb lands for the farmers so the government says that they're acting in the farmer especially interested but the farmers actually want to see a complete repeal of these laws why is the government so intent on having these reforms that. well it will dampen 11 johns' of nickel seizures and
12:07 pm
basically been the same story are. the government tries to save the farmers have been misled by the opposition by anti social elements and that they do not understand that these laws i actually going to benefit them and this is the point the government is trying to try to pull the farmers held out her savings by and attitude condescending but the of course no one does best. and the biggest concession that government is trying to make so far is too often the suspension of these last 4800 months but as i mentioned there is a significant trust deficit these farmers believe that this government isn't goltz with the corporates and will need actions that actually benefit private buyers and do not take the well being of the farmers into consideration and this is my understanding strawman demanded of you looked at all the violence we saw and you don't need to date me will be detrimental. as well in delhi as always good speaking to you the e.u.

commission is calling for stricter controls on exports of covert 900 back scenes from joost inside the block the e.u. is worried about a shortfall of vaccines after manufacture astra zeneca an ounce it would delay deliveries to e.u. members the company is blaming supply chain problems but brussels has accused it of failing to keep contractual promises all $27.00 e.u. countries are struggling with slow vaccine rollouts. this may sting a little but it's over in the blink of an eye getting vaccinated maybe a speedy affair with a vaccine rollouts across the you have proof painstakingly slow the blocks executive is pointing the finger at the pharmaceutical industry the european union wants the order and 3 finals doses to be delivered as soon as possible and we want our contract to be fully fulfilled that's a message for a vaccine developer astra zeneca the u.k.
12:09 pm
based firm recently announced it would be unable to fulfill its you orders in the it reach timeframe astra zeneca says that's down to supply problems in the e.u. possibly here at the belgium headquarter of novice up a company that works with astra zeneca to deliver a key vaccine components the astra zeneca jap is due to get the green light from e.u. regulators in the coming days so last minute news of a 60 percent cut in delivery service came as a nasty shock to lawmakers here in brussels who governments have been rolling out the red carpet for the pharmaceutical company we do not have the vaccine thanks to them but thanks to populate funding the public paid for the production capacity the deal to secure supplies of the astra zeneca vaccine was an e.u. 1st that brought a big smile to the health commissioner's face back in august 2020 the bloc purchased 300000000 doses with the option to at $100000000.00 more in other words
12:10 pm
the european union is astra zeneca biggest client it paid hundreds of millions of euros upfront in order to ensure smooth production and supply but with promises unfulfilled the block is not a happy customer the big question is now where have all those 3 produced vaccine doses gone they may have been sold to the highest bidder elsewhere that's why physician and politician peter liza welcomes new ads that producers may soon be obliged to notify the e.u. before they export any kopechne 1000 vaccines outside the block. we want to cooperate but if. you don't play fair the european commission has to show their weapons and the 1st step is to register the 2nd step is an export ban pharma giant pfizer has also been in the firing line recently it too announced delays earlier this month citing production issues that its main site here in belgium produces say
12:11 pm
they're moving as fast as they can but in the race between vaccine and virus every delay could cost lives. of port bike out much as he joins me now from brussels hi gary we heard many high profile e.u. representatives lashing out against astra zeneca what makes them believe the company sold vaccines to someone else for the moment that's of course just a suspicion but what is the fact is that the e.u. institutions here in brussels are not happy after 2 meetings with astra zeneca where the justification given for the supply cuts a lot of questions remain on the table for instance if there is a problem with the supply chain in europe why can't vaccines be delivered from the u.k. why is the u.k. in fact not affected by this proposed supply cut and astra zeneca it's now time until the end of the week to answer those questions and give us a sense of just how badly the e.u. is being affected by this very slow roll out.
12:12 pm
well if you just look at the numbers you can see that the u.k. for instance has applied 10 doses of vaccine per $100.00 citizens a royal residence the u.s. is about $6.00 per 100 residents and the u. e.u. has yet to reach 2 out of $100.00 residents 2 doses per $100.00 residents so that gives you a feeling where we stand in terms of numbers of course if you care compared to the u.k. the u.k. had a head start because they did a emergency approval for the astra zeneca vaccine this so they are earlier also we're just looking at the numbers of the 1st dose here that's why in the e.u. for instance denmark is also ahead and it will be possibly different if we have the numbers of those $1.00 and $2.00 which applies to most vaccines and that's what the u.s. you hopes that in the long run they will be ahead these delays are of course causing a lot of frustration right now. and brussels thank you very much for your analysis
12:13 pm
. germany's health minister against spawn has backed the calls for more export controls on vaccines made in the block he told the w.c. chief political editor mr it was about fairness. with me now is germany's health minister again spawn the spawn so well you know i asked the european union to implement a bridge just 3 for the export of vaccine outside the european union fence if and if and when they get it would be a good idea if companies had to obtain a license to export vaccines so that we can monitor which vaccine leaves the european union after having been produced or bottled in europe live licensing does not mean a bushel of exports but they are at least in need to be registered and approved by them and that will happen in many cases that it is approved we do not want to keep everything to ourselves but i want things to be fair so that when there are supply
12:14 pm
problems the impact is felt by everyone and not just by the european union this is an area where we are somewhat uncertain at the moment where the consequences of problems in production evenly distributed for fun put on. the united states is following in america 1st policy ensuring that u.s. citizen gets vaccinated before those exports take place does it do you know what to follow and you 1st started. news in skipping a meal no i'm talking about a fair share that we have a fair share of the material that we financed in advance and after all in almost all contracts that the european union negotiated we invested hundreds of millions of euros in advance so that production capacities could be established so it is not a matter of 1st it is a matter of being fair that is the point here. but of course we as europe as the
12:15 pm
european union as the german federal government always stressed that we are also thinking about the supply of vaccines to the rest of the world. in the end we are developing vaccines here in europe in germany for the whole world it is our goal that. others to come profit to soon as possible but one thing remains true about a con told german citizens that vaccines produced in europe are available all over the world but not in europe. windover personally knew and mr spock thank you very much for the interview from german health minister he and spawn of course very unhappy with this situation let's break this down with you for you some more with iacob kick of guard he's a senior fellow at the german marshall fund and the peterson institute for international economics mr kickout welcome i guess what everybody wants to know at this point is how could this happen and why is the e.u. more affected by distribution issues than countries out of place individual orders
12:16 pm
. well i think it's one is a matter of scale i think it's also pretty clear that there appears to have been if you like the wrong emphasis on at least some of the e.u. negotiations namely that obviously at the e.u. level you are a big player so you have economies of scale and you should be able to get a lower price however in the middle of a pandemic price is not an issue the only thing that really matters is speed so i for instance i think it would have been much mata from the e.u. use perspective to accept to pay much more per doses because whatever you paid would have been made up in terms of the money you save by being hopefully able to reopen the economy soon and so there's been probably a little bit of a wrong emphasis early on and whereas other countries with individual political
12:17 pm
leaders either in the u.k. or israel that are clearly fighting for their political lives had a sense of urgency and were willing to pay much more and they at least initially are reaping the supply benefits of having done so what can the e.u. now do about as they're threatening to tighten controls over exports will that work . no i don't think that would work i think that would be very very damaging because it ignores the fact that vaccines are subject to complex international supply chain so if you started reducing you know export controls and things like that you are likely to face similar from other countries that just reduces overall you know vaccine production capacity available in the very short term no actually i think what you cover them and should be doing is to ensure that the vaccines that are actually distributed at the moment are also injected into people's arms if you look
12:18 pm
at the you know if we take what the e.u. commission says that they're distributing to vaccines on a population basis across the e.u. and norway then there is in my opinion no excuse for other e.u. countries not to have actual injection levels roughly similar to what you have in denmark or multi which are somewhere between 3 and a half to 4 and a half percent of the total population in most e.u. countries on average it's less than 2 percent in germany it's a little higher but actually there are some countries that are doing far better and it is not because some countries are injecting more or less of the 2nd shots in fact the country that have injected most people with a 2nd shot is denmark so that's not really the issue here the issue here is that there are some countries that have better practices in the actual rollout off the
12:19 pm
sky aspect scenes so if you wanted to improve able to do to vaccinate tomorrow or next week that's where government should look and of course in there's in the wrong there's no doubt that on this additional supplies are coming from pfizer. astra zeneca etc then europe will face a problem but in the very short term it is as much about rollouts as it is about actual vaccine availability in many members all right so threats are not the right approach according to the can't guide of the german marshall fund thank you very much for your time. here's a look at some other developments in the pandemic south african president so of ramaphosa is urging wealthy countries not to hoard surplus doses of covert $900.00 vaccines he said the world has to come together to fight the pandemic new zealand's prime minister just an hour durned says her country's borders are likely to remain

it was a weekend full of blunders for the bundesliga chasing pack like you're not like sick and minds the young coach was determined to bridge the gap to buy him to have a successful humvee flick the helm that's right. holland did a lot right but with the open hoping to close in on buy into that gold looks further away than ever. this is. not good enough young in some us certainly is. but even his top class saves come to shore supremacy over by now. not least with manuel neuer in goal will bailey would like to be the league's top winger but then there's world champion kingsley come up. with a number of top teams huffing and puffing to play catch up. the last loft as their rivals faced off against each other. live pictures and took on votes poor guy.

well glovebox has to dortmund that's where we'll pick up the board as we start much to get a team kickoff. after recent poor performances dortmund are in crisis mode will they once again botch their shot at the title as they've done so many times in years past. that was the question on everybody's minds before their match and. this team to put it bluntly a hopeless case not willing or capable of learning. you've got some real nerve to say that about a team that has quite convincingly finished 2nd in the league in the past to use. well 8 in tears it just team would have to prove on the pitch that they're still

championship material something that normally means having no trouble defending set pieces but just 11 minutes in your last hoffman's free kick found nico a baby and it was one nil the center back was left wide open to put the hosts ahead . and coach marcos serve wasn't coitus show his joy. dortmund were quick to react though jayden sam show to erlang holland and the equaliser just 10 minutes after glass box open and. scoring can be quite simple when you have a striker with the power and elegance of holland. even if this coach did look a tad taken aback himself. dortmund now have full flow displaying the kind of football that is the stuff of champions sanchez again combining exquisitely with 2 bellingen before teasing the ball through the holland. that's the young norwegians 27th goal in his 1st 28 games matching

a decade. old record perhaps sporting director miss out so are close right. but dortmund are not as awesome at the back and just after the half hour mark elevate he was again in the right place to pounce. replays showed that marco voice and emery chance to man wall was porous with little time to react bookie could only parry the free kick leaving el baby with a tap and that's goal number 3 when his last 2 outings. tears each was not amused yet again disappointed to see how easy it is to score against his side as was evident early in the 2nd half to when another glove off the fender got on the scoresheet romney bends about in a card inside and guided the shot into the bottom corner with his weaker right foot a mass of bodies meaning bookies view was again blocked.

it wasn't just bad luck but also bad defending. and it was a similar story with a glass box for marcos 2 of them coming off the bench to head in the 4th and the 3rd conceded by dortmund after a set piece. of glass off specialty perhaps because i feel my early we're probably the 1st on this league a side who don't practice certain pieces but we've scored the most goals from them will usually not. so glad to have now taken the 3 biggest scalps in the top flight buyer lights it and dortmund. for the visitors meanwhile frustration at not playing to their best abilities. will listen for goldson. easy says it's not good enough. it's hard to take very disappointed because especially in attacking wise we had a good and decent game be created many chances we scored brilliant goals and it was an absolutely mismatch of what we have to do to score

yeah unbelievably important player for us and you see it with the small things how he leads in jewels how he defends the tidy clean sets leash i good for over 30 and great for glock who still want to play catch up with bio but so do live accused . i. think. maybe at least 3rd place labor could keep up the pressure on my iron their season has been quite a roller coaster ride so far it comes with the same kind of inconsistency that has long since given them the nickname never close and. we were really stable at the 1st half of the season we're not as stable at this moment but they proved they are a. force to be reckoned with in their midweek win over door plant and with leon bailey back in top form bunches boys were optimistic they'd be able to repeat the magic again. it sure looked that way at least in the beginning labor

a team battling relegation you can't really claim to be challenging for the title. so the buying given by m.b. chalco they'll be 7 points clear i don't think they've ever surrendered a lead like that but the point is if we lose games like this we'll never be able to overtake biron and win the title i've given it my stuff. margo's man was left to vent his displeasure at the match officials while we're pleased to present the best move of the match day. danny de castella arrived in mind only the day before but he helped produce an absolute we can't highlight it's got some romo that's not really been such a cost so let's. have touched the pocket she. said to the 2nd it might be fun to get slicing.
