hello i'm terry martin good to have you with us a court hearing is under way in moscow which could determine whether russian opposition leader alexina body will have to spend the next several years in jail these are the latest pictures of in the courtroom he's been in detention for violating probation since he returned to russia from germany where he's been recovering from a poison attack he blamed on kremlin forces outside the court and dozens of supporters have been detained. a moscow correspondent emily sure win is standing by outside the courthouse where the hearing is taking place emily in the valley case has sparked massive anti-government protests across russia

thousands of demonstrators were arrested over the weekend what's the situation there now. well the authorities have blocked off several roads leading up to the courthouse today and as you may be able to see behind me there's a huge police presence here outside the courthouse with barriers being set up. these team have called for supporters to come out to the courthouse and we saw a small crowd of around 20100 protesters had gathered just across the street from where i'm standing at the moment then most of the people or many of the people there were arrested. we saw several arrests mass arrests happening people basically being dragged into police cars and of course since you say this after mass protests which took place over the weekend and last week as well where we saw a record numbers of arrests across the country there were thousands of arrests.
