who is magical really what moves them what also who talks to people who follow along the way admirers and critics alike how is the world's most powerful woman shaping her legacy joining us from eccles law stops. one of kenya's biggest slums in any order its residents live in corrugated iron shacks landlords such as peter chaika a better known as slum lords they pay gangs in the slum to collect overdue rent with violence if need be this is a meadow almost as much as some night you know this is offered to you but no into it. and as you consider islam so slow it up to the job does amaze. me that ray lies

northeast of downtown nairobi the capital of $800000.00 people who live here the vast majority on less than $1.00 a day. page at chakan stops at nothing to collect the rents money. is just one of many slum lords in math are a typically they throw together the cheapest possible housing with new kitchen or running water and then charge rent for it and if necessary they resort to violence to get it they make lots of money doing this and in the reputation for exploiting the poorest of kenya's paul. i've got 30 houses here with ari if you're i've been putting them up since i 1st came here and i'd like to expand even more
4:18 am
but my ultimate goal is to have 40 houses who are being a landlord is good if you get your money from all the households you can earn very well and expand to even further before it all just from what you make you can build many new houses. the housing market is not the tool of regulated tenants have to pay what ever the landlord dumond's so people should have a living space to make it affordable an average of $2.00 plus. sentenced to a one room shack the equivalent of some 30 or is a month some knowledge pizza chain collects his rent in person for the camera he puts on an amiable face. they buy you doing it have you got anything for me or not yet. ok ok this is everything going all right. is your husband home. no problem when he comes with you tell him hello for me.

now you know i really mean from your neighbor. no ok fine. name but he was your neighbor here but later on. by you there will. hurt. but if someone fails to pay their rent on time the slumlords try and get us to connect it to gangs you can be quick to resort to violence for about $10.00 euro just fell strong on the tenants will try them out almost lose much of it. from my design feature they will do it one of those crushing with it and someone was sent to the someone the tenant was beaten up is part of bullying because it is the removing the removing the things that are putting them out without giving them 2nd chance or we don't really want to have to see but if they have the money or if it were to get the money the other

empty. i want to have enough money to paint the walls properly here i don't know if the government pays subsidies for landlords to renovate their houses got a friend to go without the rent from a lot of tenants who just can't pay them what they want no they don't have any belongings that you can confiscate and so very often i end up empty handed with. some say while his tenants is struggling to survive peach a guy has no worries still his position is ambivalent he might leave his rent his 11 for a few months but then send a gang to collect the payments by force either way people here are dependent on some notes like him. to.

4:32 am
you guys come through raf today we have something rather special for you your new 2nd generation. one of the latest electric cars and one of the very few hydrogen cars and when it comes to range and fast refueling nothing can beat it says toyota so let's check it out. so this is the future of. electric cars. if you want to you can lead to a coffee on the streets. design wise things have drastically changed in the 2nd generation as you can see for yourself and definitely for the better if you asked me nothing really reminds you of the well kind of ugly looking spaceship the mirai was before now we've got this nice looking front that split ellaby headlights not sure if i like those maybe one
4:33 am
single unit would have looked better but in a side profile you've got this nice looking almost like roof line and then at the back here this really be stripped that goes all the railroad and i really like the design kind of reminds me of i don't know maybe meets already a 7 sport spec class b.m.w. at sirius brancusi looks nice. despite the new sporty looks toyota managed to lower the base price for their almost $5.00 metre long hydrogen flagship down to under $64000.00 euro's. in here you've got pretty much all the space you could ask for very roomy uncomfy and the leather seats well they feel very nice i like it you've got a nice big center console wave can put you on to rest and well in the 1st
4:34 am
generation the interior looked a tad too futuristic if you ask me in here you have got the more classic layout got a nice stream behind the steering wheel and a big touchscreen plus the separate climate control or you could ask for let's check out the back. well at the back. you can already see things not so spacious anymore i mean i'm only one metre 70 so i can fit pretty much anywhere but if you are bigger than your let's say ever japanese engine you know them well i mean like room is fine but could be a little bit more you can feel in here that the engine if they needed some of the space for all the electronics and the tanks at the back especially here in this center tunnel you can see how huge and massive that is so although toyota says that
4:35 am
is a 5 seater i don't really see 5 adults sitting in here but what's pretty much if you look at the armrest you've got this little control center here so when you're sitting here you can control the temperature change the tracks and well if you're not too big of a quite good time back well let's check out the trunk them. and just as with the back seat the same can be said here it's not the most spacious 450 liters capacity could be better but ok it is what it is because the engineers also hear that the space for the electronics and the 3 tanks. so driving the pretty much feels like driving any other electric car you get in turn the car on and off you go there is no need to adjust to anything because at
4:36 am
the end of the day the. is just another electric car only difference being it doesn't store the electricity it needs in a big bettery but instead it produces the energy it needs while driving in the fuel cell no although the 2nd generation will give you 182 holes because by no means a sports car so. you don't need to expects acceleration times of like. 0 to 100 kilometers per hour or pixel or on mine point 2 seconds and the top speed is limited to 175 kilometers per hour so those numbers are comparable to those of the 1st generation but still this one feels different you could say. it's a little bit more refined i would say whereas in the 1st generation you could really hear some pounds and compressor was working this one is really silent the
4:37 am
only thing you sometimes can hear is maybe a little hissing sound coming from the fuel cell in the front but i mean as soon as you turn on the radio you won't even notice that and if you combine the silence in here together with the little stiffer bodywork then the almost 5050 weight ratio well all that makes up for a pretty chill and relaxing right. now toyota didn't just change the design they wanted bigger range and more power and for that they needed more space so that's why the car compared to the 1st generation is so much bigger now the tech back then was just revolutionary as it is today you've got your fuel cell you've got an electric engine the fuel gets fed with hydrogen and produces energy that will make the electric engine spin and off you go at the end the only thing that's left emission is water which is pretty nice
4:38 am
change the whole layout of the engine and the tanks the electric engine now sits at the rear of the car so we've got rear wheel drive on top of that they improved the fuel cell which now sits at the front of the car plus we've now got 3 instead of 2 i had ridge and fuel things that also sit at the rear of the car. and together they will pack 5.6 kilograms of hydrogen fuel and that is enough to reach ranges of up to 650 kilometers which is quite a lot before we had 500 but i mean compared to better electric vehicles there aren't that many that can go that far. now the real strength about hydrogen cars is no question refueling because
4:39 am
with battery electric cars you oftentimes have to wait hours or at least 4530 minutes at the supercharger to keep on going here you just take the hydrogen pistol just like in your normal combustion car put it on wait for 5 minutes the whole thing is done you can go for another 650 kilometers pretty nice now there is of course one problem and that is the amount of hydrogen fuel stations now today there are more than the 14 fuel stations from 2015 right now about 100 but i mean come on 100 stations in the whole of auden whole of germany compared to the a 1000 or $10000.00 petrol stations that peanuts now the distribution of those $100.00 hydrogen stations is quite ok so in germany you pretty much can go
4:40 am
anywhere but to get to the next station you will have to drive for some time as it won't be right around the corner. the original expansion plan in germany in vision 405 region with fueling stations by 2023 however due to the slow pace of expansion it's doubtful the. target can be reached in the next 2 years. one reason is certainly the low demand due to field newly registered fuel cell cars. the new mariah could be the hydrogen car that leads to a breakthrough. so as i said nice thing about hydrogen is long ranges fast refueling and no emissions well besides water and normally the mirai will get rid of it by emitting water way but if you want to you can quite literally let your car on the streets and that by
4:41 am
just pressing this part. which is obviously quite nice if you want to avoid having bigger puddles in your garage another nice can be found inside the infotainment stream as i said for the fuel to work it needs hydrogen and air that is coming from the front of the car and now because during the process the air will get filled it will get out of the exhaust after the process even than when it entered which is crazy when you think about and you can even see that inside the in full taman screen so basically. driving the car you will clean the area around you which is. nice i guess.
4:42 am
so to sum it up is this the future of electric cars well i don't really know but the rise certainly shows that you don't need bigger and bigger better reason to reach higher ranges and when it comes to fast recharging or in this case we fueling times when we are talking about electric cars nothing really beats hydrogen now would. certainly yes if i often had to drive long distances and don't want to spend my time waiting for the car to recharge now if i only needed the car for short commutes well maybe then a smaller car with a smaller bettery might be the better choice now why wouldn't i buy me right well probably because i need a lot of space in the trunk and stood there aren't that many hydrogen fuel stations in germany but hopefully that will change in the future. the ugly duckling has become a beautiful swan and the 2nd generation mariah has just about everything it takes
4:43 am
to help fuel cells make a breakthrough. what's missing are more hydrogen filling stations and hydrogen produced from renewable sources for it to become a troop 0 emissions be a cold. i am on effects of data and i am a 6 times guinness world record holder in thai just parking and today i would like to explain your something about snow chains and in that way we have prepared it even for the tesla and we try to find a tesla at 1st no chains but there's no available. i think we have to use we're chains on
4:44 am
a real electric and by the way this is my very own tesla model 3 performance always drive 500 h.p. and i would show you what it is capable of even without chains. now i'm in the car with you and i would like to show you a very special feature about 13 islam one of 3 performance and there's actually the treatment so you can see here you can adjust and take more because they can have a front more in the remote so that means these 2 more does it seems like that you can separate them if you do really like that we would see him actually with the slider i can see really agree with this line i can see from the bridge right if it's really in detail and that we would see when we look in that little graphic here because there we can see where the pole is really transmitted out so included
4:45 am
in the in the 1st part of it and put it in the from. if because it means 100 percent to the front let's see what the individual a tire supply is. as you can see it's going on all 4 tires. so that means the 4 wheel drive it's not 100 percent to the front that means it's not the front we're going to now we do to $5050.00 and see what happens. on the real time the spinning. flip means it is already transferring power to the rear and a little bit to the front 100 percent to the rear. end still when the car comes into a dynamic situation to get support from the front. so it's not always set to do
4:46 am
100 percent in the real situation so it is more of a truck make terrain so that needs you can define how much you try to go to the rio or you raise a probability that a lot is going to the area a lot is going to the front. there is actually what the system can. pick out is at least trying to deliver cost to the front or to the rear depending on the slide. and the moment we are and. for the feet. so it's possible to get the car. so now we change it. completely to the front let's see what happens and steering into the corner of the cars washing out to the front. and now last check. we do it into the center and have
4:47 am
a look. at it again and now it's new. really another good system all to the car behaves quite neutral. i can keep it with a lie straight slightly closing hearing we're. a good images. so that is one of the reasons why i bought the car because i like the way it is believed to give the driver the choice. today we want to talk about snow chains and when to put them and where to put them i would decide in the tesla it's a 4 wheel drive car in that case i would decide to anyway put it on the front if the traction is to bet maybe put to the to each side on the area so that we have
4:48 am
all 4 tires and was best tractions when it's the right moment to actually put them on when you look at the saw face deep snow of course could be one argument or when you have real proper ice then snow chains make sense please remember there is a speed limit related to snow chains that means maximum 50 in your route this company says only 40 so always have a deeper look into the regulations and into that what the manufacturer is telling so usually they're always a little wobbly but in that case they are quite simple to install it sold please read the manual when you do that and if you are. always. on the right side and that nothing. damages your tire or your room or your we have holes. on the roach.
4:49 am
and one more last tip always try that out at home 1st before you come into the situation where you actually need. to actually you should test before you really go into driving if everything is fitting tight or if you can still make it tighter because otherwise you have a problem when it comes to more speed. yeah so now is the moment when you have to take them all off because it and chains
4:50 am
are not good together yeah why is that a problem to drive with chains on asphalt just imagine they had to sell fans destroy the saw face they heat up so it's not at all recommended only if you have a layer of ice a proper layer of ice or deep snow then of course it makes sense to use them because then they will create use i hope you can use some of these tips i will do one thing though i will remove them and have some more fun and just. if you want more read check out our you tube channel. if you want regular features about new cars and car culture and about mobility around the world rev can make you very happy. been tapes classics and future tech or just some of the exciting content waiting for you subscribe to us at you tube slash d.w.

round and your own. be up to speed. on the. top people have bikes they want converted into ebonics we adapt them so they can not only cover short distances like from home to school but even replace the cars old up so the only transport they need is the bike. they would use if i turned 40 this year i've been riding motorbikes and bicycle since i was 19 so i always love tinkering with engines on the carburetor to the exhaust and eventually i asked myself if there was a way to do it in a simpler and more environmentally friendly way that's when i got into the mobility it was nice to travel without noise because there are no vibrations and in the summer no extra heat under you and i can even hear the birds singing sometimes it's
4:52 am
a totally different feeling on it wasn't for me on the spot a few. does my fault this is my bike shop i opened in 2010 since 2016 we've been doing conversions for each bikes and it's really taken off in the last few years. we now have purely electric bikes in our range tube and i love them. but you know lynn surely electric bikes are still a tricky business and demands not very high because they're pretty heavy for getting around or pushing into backyards or carrying into the basement and there's also theft to deal with but there's strong demand for conversions bus people have bicycles they want converted into a bikes so we adapt that hollywood is again at the moment because we do more conversions than we sell.
4:53 am
if i'm right now in fixing the torque on to the frame. it's. before. we start selling something i try to test it myself in 2016 my daughter was still small enough for me to take her on the back of my car. but i soon found i wasn't strong enough to transport my daughter and all the shopping at once. so i was glad to have the ijaw. on my own bike and tested it in all kinds of conditions and all times of day in summer. we noticed how people are attached to their bikes and tell us they don't want to throw them away they'd rather convert them. and because they're a bit older and more fragile nobody has much weight as before and it helps to have each ride.
4:54 am
with this system it's not possible to use the back pedal brands but there is another brand with that feature. they attach the motor on the left hand side and that frees up the space for the back pedal brake. with the 5. years of habit they get used to the geometry of a bicycle the distance from pedals to handle bars or saddle. someone who rides a bike for 20 to 25 years has trouble finding any bike because they're built differently about us the price for conversion starts at about 1500 euros but it's. upward of 252600 euros so converting saves
4:55 am
a lot of money. my you do kind of my you tube channel is called 0 pioneer we show how the bikes work out how we install the electric conversion set how to charge a motorbike or how far we can get on a charge room's much many folks want either filmed long trips like a few months ago i wrote an emoter bike from berlin to the black forest and back that was more than 800 kilometers in one weekend. and because of the buggy club dog the way there was find good luck every charging station worked but the way back when all wrong to come i had 40 kilometers left in my batteries and we had to try 3 different charging stations before i could charge my bike. but. that's the way it was i think it's plugged in i'll do some
4:56 am
paperwork while the bike charges then i'll take it home. when i knock at some amount of crossing town silently on my e. bike you just are cruising around for a while i'm really looking forward to that before you can. we look forward to seeing you again next week for more rad.
