i don't know those super junius to do good. actually. discovered the way to. subscribe to the documentary on you tube. welcome to a new special edition of jack and. shines his favorite tips for places to visit on
5:31 am
a trip to germany these 3 destinations have particularly impressed him. from twitter off to the beach for some summer some involve the munda on the baltic sea. then look they got takes a road trip by camper van to enjoy the natural beauty of the new camacho and the german french border in sonders luka staggers 3rd favorite destination on a trip to germany. that started the baltic sea it was looking to take his 1st trip since the corona locked down in spring 2021 fresh air a short trip somewhere like to the baltic coast it's something i've been missing these past months just like many of us the coronavirus been demick has disrupted travel worldwide my 1st trip after using a 1st richie's germany took me to vitamin d. in the state of mecklenburg western from radio. here from the lighthouse you can get a good view of. the baltic resort. traveling
5:32 am
in coronavirus times how does that look like with all the social distancing in hygiene rules it's summer in germany so it's high season and that means it can get really crowded on the beach in restaurants in hotels and i would like to know how those people in charge and the tourists are dealing with this situation here in volume and. holiday makers are back here involved in the end the baltic coast and of course i'm curious to find out more about what's brought them here. where you're from cologne what brought you here and it was like baltic sea coast is the nicest coast we know we've been coming here for years. or do you still get that holiday feeling despite the coronavirus been damming up under me. restrictions like putting on
5:33 am
a mask in stores aren't a big deal apart from that there aren't many restrictions we go biking swimming and jogging so for us it absolutely feels like a holiday just to a place takes good to get out again after the long knockdown. look. as long do you notice a few restrictions. but by and large when you're outdoors you don't need to sit at all. next month and. comply with social distancing and hygiene rules to get over it all yeah yeah but not between the 2 of us. give me a kiss. i was rainsford have a lovely holiday. time to pay a visit to the beach and all rented beach share. it will protect me from the wind and help with social distancing. though i'd like to rent a beach chair we're not alone welcome no problem it was you and you to do. the boss
5:34 am
and nothing we send 2 people along who will make sure the beach chair is disinfected and all you need to do is sit down relax and have a nice time. or. is this your best beach chair not best that i don't know about that i'd say it's a very good beach chair many are newer but this is the one that's free right now that's how it works on the clock sue it has to be disinfected 1st. and it's about yes we have to unless the chair only goes out once a day then it has 24 hours to air out. but if it goes out several times a day this is what we do get with us from behind so if it hasn't aired out mathias takes care of it that was much yeah then dr mathias gets it nice and clean thank you fake i.d.'s. the chairs like this has been a fixture by the baltic and the north sea since the 19th century very specially
5:35 am
popular in germany. now all that's missing is a quick dip in the water. and. i do i do. i have to admit diving into this chilly water it is just 17 degrees celsius is a bit daunting at 1st but once you're in and swimming it's wonderful. it's clear that the tourists are back despite the coronavirus but how are the people who live here ferrand.
5:36 am
i'm off to meet a man with a woman who works here as a lifeguard. but what do you need to be a lifeguard. this is what you have to be athletic team player know how to swim and like the beach. and that's it. that's like i should not have to spend what did to coronavirus me for you as a lifeguard in that yeah at the start of the season we introduced various safety measures and restrictions. we have protective equipment for the lifeguards for the swimmers who need 1st date we have mass and so forth the body gets to be called when we hand over the band-aids rather than sticking them on ourselves yes i thought that overall we haven't had all that many covert cases in this part of germany in which there was no bikers and there aren't all that many restrictions. on the guns that you can see that at the beach when they come through this it's almost like watching them trying to you must know what about an emergency if you have to do mouth to mouth resuscitation mr we're lucky because we have manual
5:37 am
resuscitator so we're trained to use these handheld masks with self inflating bags which require no direct physical contact that's a simple titles so what do you like about the baltic as it is and i'll see. the view the waves but it's always different in every kind of weather you never tire of it on. the sun is really nice this year so don't forget your sunscreen i.q. but there's also a big clear this year so the view is really nice and if i might head here because of. all right thank your mother in. my next stop is a tour of the harbor. on board the campaign bus the 1st pass along the eye to the stretch. water that
5:38 am
extends from the fishing for an a fundamental to the last. of on the moon the seaside resort is actually the district of the city off while stuck. in a hostile carver we're greeted by the cruise ship terminal normally it's busy some $200.00 cruise ships docked here and every year. the all star ship parents and their cruise ships are built are also unusually quiet and it's still not clear how and when things will start back up again. an hour later we're on our way back to find him and. tourism has a long tradition here the 1st hotels for tourists opened in the early 19th century . as i stroll along the promenade on this nice summer day it looks like things are
5:39 am
back to normal the way they were before the coronavirus trysts. everything's pretty relaxed here and bottom and the tourists are happy they can travel again and enjoy the baltic and so all the people who make their living from tourism. mukesh take a 2nd choice of must sees in germany takes us on a road trip through the region and the state of mexican book for paul man i'm doing it like many other germans this coronavirus summer i've borrowed a camper van and i look forward to a break in the fresh air in the. there are few people at. a lot of
5:40 am
space about 2 hours drive north east of berlin. the fields as far as the eye can see. and many lakes in between. nature my world. i've just arrived that's my campsite. the boss here shows me the way to the parking space. so what now. and you'll drive up there and then back in. turn a bit to the right. super. go straight for a little to the right. great you did it. done. now i need electricity. action. are there more people here than in the past years the government has recommended going on vacation in your own country because of the
5:41 am
coronavirus. in deference to coronavirus measures we're not fully booked we could easily accommodate 200 more people but we don't want to do that you can see that there's a lot of space. we're outdoors and the risk of infection is minimal but we don't want anything to increase or. naturally we have grown regulations we ask that you wear a face mask in all public buildings stores sanitary facilities and at the boat rental . business who are the typical campers newbies like me or permanent campers. you can assume that in the camper community 10 percent of the people have never been to a german campground before they're now underway to something there's an even bigger run on campsites. and normal summers we turn away 20 people a day now it's 3040 or even 50. to he was one i hate to admit it but we unplugged
5:42 am
the phone. it just wasn't doable anymore yeah. now are there musky to night do i have to put on repellent. oh no we fence them off. this is kind of it's no it's not a big year for mosquitoes plagues only happen if it's more than warm during breeding season then the larvae hatch that's not the case this year you're mosquito bites and will compensate you for each one there shouldn't be too many i'm not taking a big risk in saying that to steve boyce all right thank you. my neighbors have already made themselves at home. the camper van took me here safely so now it can take a break i will explore the area on foot and by bike and to be honest i'm really looking forward to all the nature and swimming in the lake so let's go. first the tour of the site nice and she. can't there is also
5:43 am
a lake this is very important. because it's hot really hot. let's see if any of my neighbors are at home at all. the. way from. not far from here from this to teen what do you think coming here for 20 years. why are you camping because we always camp was the best thing about it but it's nice to be honest. it's not so crowded streets downtown just nicer not to be confined to the small banks even if the campgrounds from. being cooped up in a hotel with 500 so i knew we were away camping here just caught up to the coronal were on holiday here and you're going to hear we have a wonderful spot we're glad to use like my gun and. mike. you time to get on the
5:44 am
bike. but i want to look around the lakes nature park. why are there so many lakes here. the landscape has oddities and knows them he's a nature guide and the 1st thing i do is get to know a special landscape architect. we have to go in here to get to the beaver dam. yes the market has many many legs the year we have unnaturally created by a beaver and it's never too thin be made the dam here with wooden mud it's impenetrable and stable to the want is all the time i can walk over it but its guts are no problem. ok but then i'll climb on the beavers roof. being all the others weigh 25 to 30 kilos there with my weight there's.
5:45 am
no problem. the beaver designed this landscape creating a habitat for many other species. does it all in a day's work for a beaver long as the beaver take for that i figure just a couple hours. there's another lake it's lake ozzy how much can you actually jump into any lake lake bet more or less in terms of the water quality yes. i was in that but there are protected areas are not allowed to set foot into. the. north as a dock or a beach it's no problems of the. large and small lakes they all formed when the glaciers retreated during the last ice age 15000 years ago.
5:46 am
i continue my trip through the a long shady avenues. in 1st nevada i take a break. the church is as old as the village it dates from the 13th century. it's nice here. this is the opportunity to buy some provisions. i even find regional. audits year. by year old from the oh geez that's mine. and now let's go to the next lake. it's not far it's obvious that 1st nevada also has a lake. this is the perfect spot. because
5:47 am
the. last stop of their special edition of is. it takes place on the interstate his latest mentation from trip to germany. a boat trip on the sol river is a perfect way to get a 1st impression of the region. others in the saw land still and insiders to a small state is not as popular as bavaria all the baltic sea until 2012 coal was still being mined here so the saleh used to be an industrial region to agree to
5:48 am
dirty for tourists but that has changed. first i'd like to get an overview of things from the treetop walk includes. it winds its way gently up through the forest canopy. and then snakes back and forth some 42 meters up to this observation tower. you want to view. this horseshoe bend in the river is known as desired. and it's by far the most popular attraction in salt and. from up here you can see it pretty well the silence is green about one 3rd of the area is covered with forest and then there are the river valleys of salma zille and blease sustainable travel is no problem at all due to many hiking and cycling
5:49 am
trails well some recommendations for you. industry and idyllic nature can be found side by side in sol and. coal mining has left an indelible mark on the region cole was minded and was smelted here for over 250 years wants off limits to visit tourists today anyone is welcome to tour the site the age of coal mining has been preserved for posterity in many of the decommissioned industrial complexes the best known author once insolvent is the thorough clean up my own works the largest in the country and a unesco world heritage site and then this contrast the countryside along the muzzle with its vignettes in the appellate 3 countries meet. the left of the missouri river is germany france is straight ahead and to the right is luxembourg and the little town of shannon. here in 1905 jerkin

5:53 am
world i'm going for a tour of the house. isn't here we are in the reception hall this is where guests were received them fine or in the true typical of these halls where the conference ceilings then we have the semi columns the plaster columns decorating the roof or down below are the frescoes in the pump a star. or not here we've been able to reconstruct an original most 8 floor model and. the archeologists believe the entire room was paved with it. the heart of every roman villa was the baths. they were big enough to accommodate the press friends and business associates. this is the cold r.e.m.
5:54 am
our hot bath. this is the hot water basin. that we want to know just imagine when the bars were in use you had an indoor climate comparable with a modern steam bath it was 35 degrees celsius in here with condensation dripping from the ceiling. behind that wall as a copper kettle to heat the water over a fire warden is water was let into the basin through this lion's head. the smoke from the fire was directed through the under. last system into the house to warm the rooms. when i was your one and i mean you see bob sandals which still look modern today and you can see them flip flops you know exactly ancient flip flops on any idea why people had to wear them. hygiene maybe good gas but the floor was just too hot for the finals weren't all that far away as always so people found it
5:55 am
necessary to protect their feet so they made these ancient flip flops. the final stop on my visit to solve that is to solve. this walk in sculpture was erected on top of a slack heap hill made from waste material left over from mining. the polygon is a monument to the coal mining. it's also meant as a symbol of how people here in sol and intent to approach the future. of. tourism is part of this future and i think that the small silent has great potential roman heritage industrial legacy rivers forests and then there's the proximity to our neighbors france and luxembourg and of course you mustn't forget the really good food here well on that note bye bye see you next time somewhere else in germany.
