i'm way of thanks for joining us 2 german states have voted but with one message unhappiness with chancellor angela merkel's christian democrats the southwestern states of america and a lot in a border france and each other but they're both governed by very different coalitions their elections sunday have been called a dress rehearsal for germany's general election later this year and if so chancellor merkel is michael's conservative party may have reason to worry its vote is down significantly in both states and could be a bad omen ahead of september's national election. bag is one of germany's key industrial states especially well known for its car industry with both porsche adversities base there. let's look at the early results coming out of

that state the main governing party the greens are up slightly at 32.4 percent while their coalition partner chancellor merkel's conservative c.d.u. down to 23.6 percent that's a decrease of $3.00 points among the opposition parties you have the far right populist a.f.d. with $10.00 points that shaves off about 5 percent from their take last time the central left s.p.d. is at 11.6 percent the business friendly f.d.p. free democrats rise to 10.4 percent there are other parties but they won't make the 5 percent threshold that you need to have seats in the state legislature now following events for us instead got the capital of is our political correspondent julius of delhi julia what has been the reaction to those results. well obviously the greens are celebrating right now the co-head of the party

annalyn the bear book has said this is a great night for the greens and she says this shows the greens still have trust from voters also during difficult times like the current pandemic and she said that now climate change has to be fighting climate change has to be the number one objective for the party and this is something that. the standing premier here and who is the leader of the greens here who has one according to current exit polls and projections tonight also said he is going to put the fight against climate change at the center of talks he's going to have with other parties which are going to start this week that he's going to carry out with all parties with that are within the constitutional spectrum he's going to start with the conservative view which came in 2nd then he's going to follow the order in which the parties are going to come in in this election. and the c.d.u.

possible start of the election year for chancellor conservatives in both wealthy states they significantly lost support among voters resulting in their worst election results there ever in the wine grown region. that means they will not be part of the state government in the neighboring autoharp of looking back they depend on their past coalition partner the greens who are more successful and have other options to form a government. just disappointing it's disastrous that's something we have to admit openly and of course i will take responsibility for it but this you do you will also have to address why we have been losing public support and back foot 10 years now. and. about your. when casting their vote the majority of people said the economy was the most important topic for them followed by the environment and social security but of course the pandemic also left its
