women have entered the political arena and also the work force but with the taliban becoming more powerful they worry that these gains could be lost after foreign troops leave. so harley zada is very proud she's had a job for 2 years now the 40 year old works at a tailor shop for women in afghanistan carrying out a profession is a privilege one that many are denied. the feeling i'm so incredibly happy and also grateful that i'm allowed to work here i've learned tailoring here and i've gained self-confidence and i can earn money that means i can help support my family and i don't know the. son who works here at the tailors 5 days a week. the shops owner a lot like a xeni opened her business 3 years ago she employs 38 women there are no men working in her shop that. i want to show everyone that women can do just as much as
10:08 am
men that's why i opened my tailor's shop it was important for me to prove that women can work and that they're independent and that they can add something to society. she's achieved just that over the past 3 years her shop's been a success but now she's worried what will happen here after the international troops withdraw from afghanistan and the taliban possibly return to power. that of course is a business owner i'm afraid of what could happen only women work here we all remember the dark days of the taliban we know that when they were in power women had no rights and weren't allowed to work in a profession like this. working here is helped many women in the region like her coworker serena her husband's income wasn't enough to support the whole family thanks to serene as wages the family can get by now.
10:09 am
but other than to sit on the i'm grateful that i can support my family but of course i'm worried that i could become unemployed if the taliban come to power again. that's a concern shared by all the same sources here. harley's doesn't want to lose the rights that women have acquired over the last 20 years for the 1st time in her life she and her family have enjoyed a sense of security. show. used to feel scared when i was out of my own i didn't know whether i'd get home alive and i hope these times are never repeated and that we can live in peace and security you know to be and hold on to hope go to. work peace and security are basic human needs that remain privileges for afghan women. and we can now speak to i hate

shalini she is an afghan canadian human rights activist filmmaker and artist based in munich germany thank you so much for being on our program now i'd like to ask you if you share the concerns of some of the women we just saw in our reports who are worried about what is going to happen after foreign troops withdraw from afghanistan are you worried. yes i think i think every single african is worried woman or man for. withdrawal of the of the troops from afghanistan. we're not talking about the seen afghanistan as let's say 20 years ago where there were only taliban that we had to deal with we have 22. extremist groups that are active regionally nationally and internationally in there and now we know that in parts of afghanistan where the taliban right now are or aren't present right now women do not have a lot of rights and the the claim to allow women to do their work and to go to
10:11 am
school that is not the case because there have been reports and there are substantial reports that that is not the case so that is of course alarming to everybody because as they start leaving the troops are starting to leave today it's you wonder whether we go back fall back to taliban era again and even worse because of all of this these other extremist groups as well. and now in your opinion what are the most important examples of progress made over the past 20 years and what do you believe should be the way forward to prevent deserve what's been achieved. in every aspect of society there has been progress whether it's been in the political arena. system let's not forget that afghanistan the population of afghanistan is i think 6364 percent of the population is under 27 years old this is for young population so most of these of this generation have been born either during the

taliban regime or right after post taliban and these are the ones that have really made a lot of progress and of course the the ministers there the women ministers and civil society business women that have opened doors for these young younger generation makes a huge difference now if you talk about how how how it should be in the future but if they come let's say worst case scenario they come in on the take over the government let's protect the constitution or canister because the constitution of afghanistan and the clauses that protect women and minorities should not be touched and that is very very important right now he has a hole in the afghan canadian human rights activist filmmaker artist thank you so much for sharing your insights and for having me. all for most of us part is have been out of the question for a long time but now in the british city of liverpool that is changing after more than a year of club closures $3000.00 people have been allowed to pack
