during storm season in the spring and autumn, the horses pull, fine mesh nets over the sand beneath the surface. unlike fishing from both, this method leaves very little by catch in the net. and what little there is to be released immediately, even so the boating ness, their ancestors pulled out of the stuff of legends for today's, for today's big both has severely decimated trips done. after about half an hour, naval base, current and fellow shipper could train to wren, pull up the nets. for the 1st time at the shoreline, a group of spectators has gathered everybody's eager to see what they've caught. young raina from the catch is a bit meeker. but the horseback, fishers aren't only out to catch trim. they also drawn in crowds of tourist to also and care care and seaside resort. okay,

ah, long before the pandemic to call them people started working from home. digital nomads had a secret that few others realized. all you needed was a laptop and a good internet connection and the world was your oyster when it came to work. well, this way of doing business has become ever more popular since the pandemic. more and more places are catering to digital nomads, including on the portuguese island of madera, well after all, why not live in work where other people go on vacation? europe's 1st village for digital nomads isn't punted the soul on the south western coast. the portuguese island madera year round. the location offers mild weather and then the lease in setting its just a place for people who only need a laptop for work. anna maria has been living here for nearly 2 months and a half designer from romania. she's traded in her permanent residence for workplace

a vacation mode all the time working where others go on vacation. this is the new idea. the indonesian island of bali is another popular destination for digital nomads. big cities like lisbon and berlin's are also popular digital no mass work all around the globe. when they get tired of one place, they simply pack their bags and have for another one, founder of the village for digital now mass coastal. the whole of portugal travelled. all around the world as he worked. he knows that even globetrotters get lonely now and then. so we want to build the whole structure. so if you come here as an arm and you have your question answered, you know, there is events, you know, that the government is going to, i think the events, you know, there is a community leader. that if anything goes wrong, if a friend of you go to the hospital, they will take care of you. and that's the structure that we build here, that i never seen anywhere in the world. 100 to so as a population of a $1200.00 and room for around $200.00 digital nomads to stay either in private

an exhibition in northern germany is going a step further and presenting an entire chapter of its medieval history. with these colorful bricks is about the hands, the attic league, an alliance of merchants who built a thriving trade network. well, the displays may look like child's play, but they give a fun glimpse into an important piece of history that is accessible to everyone. the chips that the keys alone sailor on the deck, a merchant in his contour, and an intrepid travel in the middle ages, have come back to life in the form of interlocking ne hoffmeister dreamed up 6 miniature hum, sciatic league scene with no blueprint to follow. he's the only lego certified professional model builder in germany. and of course he was on hand for the exhibitions opening. the body was there between the 2 crates yet. no. that's
7:52 pm
a real slacker thing. kids is hidden between the crates and it's happily munching away and it's sausages and chicken. everyone else is working on the short. it's a great feeling when i was happy, years work went into it states. i racked my brain about what the figurine can busy themselves with in each of the scenes and what they might experience in the lloyd. i love it when people discover the little details i put in there. this special exhibition is that the european hands in the center of all new back in northern germany. there are all these tiny details so much to discover and their historically correcting. and it's a great way to really experience history for senior me of my love finding him isn't what life back then must have been my current hosting in the what's so amazing is that there are building techniques there that i've never seen before, especially the ship one there angles and curves there that i never managed to shape with my own blocks at home. if you can go to the exhibition was given an equally

playful name concert, shine a creative pun. that puts the words kingdom in brick together to mean wealthy. it tells the story of behind the arctic league, a medieval trade confederation in the north and baltic seas at its height. traders for more than 200 countries were members, lou back was added center. the visitors to the museum will find lifestyle replicas of treating from the linen market. in british, the belgian city was hands the other cards specializing in fabrics. the smaller lego model has enough room for an entire linen market. 6 the miniature is worth a closer look. otherwise, you might miss something in the bustle. town hall is also recreated in lego flashback 2 months before the exhibition scenario. hoffmeister was working on the back town hall in his workshop in the meg in brandenburg. he used
7:54 pm
drawings of the town hall in russ measurements to build his model to scale. he didn't use any blueprint or sketches. he simply got to work a few years by the hard part of building models like this one is that you're always left hoping until the very end of the model have the right proportions. please opposition to me cuz you don't want people saying the roof should have been 3 rows lower so that the peak looks right. i log on with them. it's all, once you've built your way up to 60, and we can't just block something out at row 30. that would even be over. everything is connected. now if there's something wrong towards the bottom, i have to take everything apart and work from the ground up, one of the one with lincoln and none o the amount of the river and yet in russia has come along nicely. in this case, the challenge was placing the squares blocks in a way that still made the trees and plants look natural. defense and the plants are always hard. it's more like amber, but it should look like read what you've got to work with the bricks you're given.
7:55 pm
modeling the water is really important because the little details are what make the scene really come to life. and of course, i couldn't just use the bricks for the water, but i wanted to render very in depth with me. here's the see. here's the river. it's a bit calmer than the theme. i tried to use different colors under the transparent block to show different depths just to make it more life. i can do good. once the characters are in place, the model really springs to life. it shows traders getting ready for the last leg of their journey to nov. corrode after a long and dangerous voyage, and just like the merchants of old. the traveling exhibition will soon also set out into the world. and for the next time you want to go on an adventure, be sure to check out our website for our latest, your worth draw, and a chance at receiving this backpack and some other goodies that we come to. the end of another show is always thanks for watching and we'll see you in the

the global 3000 theories starts june 21st on d w. ah, the news this is the, the news line from berlin, germany, the far right fails to shake up the political order in a key regional election. i'm gonna medical's conservative fight off a challenge from the populace. alternative for germany will bring you all the latest reaction and asked what the results means for the national action in september. ah,
8:01 pm
me, i'm pablo phone vs. welcome to the program. germany far right has failed in its attempt to send shock waves the call across the political landscape in a regional election angler michaels conservative, comfortably seen of a challenge from the alternative for germany in the eastern states of saxony. i'm out the chancellor's party when more than a 3rd of the vote. there was disappointment for the chair of the vote, but the far right still makes up the 2nd biggest block in the regional parliament. and vote counting is underway. so let's take a look. the projected results based on reported tallies and as you can see, they're anglo michael's conservatives. the cd you are on 36 point to the far right sd on 22.5. the socialist left party 10.9 centre left s p v 8.4. the greens on $6.00 and the business friendly f,
8:02 pm
they pay on f t p on $6.00. right, so to talk about the significance of these results, i'm joined by the w political correspondent, hands pants here in the studio. hi, hans. and d, w a chief political editor, mikayla cook, now who joins us from maggie berg, the capital of saxony and health. and i'm going to start with me, kayla. and i'm gonna michael's c d. u has emerged from this election well ahead of the a f d. yes, saxony and how is a relatively small german state? so why does this regional election matter so much? well 1st of all, it matters a lot because it's in the stronghold of the far right if the policy and there's always the question mark over can the rise of the a, f d b whole to particularly in those eastern stronghold states will be answered tonight is yes, absolutely. because the a f d was weakened. nice id. it's still
8:03 pm
a big political force here, but it was weekend and at the same time, and i'm going to michael's c d u policy led by the incumbent state premier and has a loss so that it can become stronger. so these are 2 factors that huge success. i'm going to michael's political camp and for her want to be successful unless it who lead the potter party as party leader. but also it's tons the candidate in those elections in september which will determine the future of the entire country. so not very many people who went to the polls. 1.8000000 voters here in saxony and house. but the timing of course, was also essential, as we're just going into the hot phase of the election campaign for mckayla many thought the a f t party could win. what did the c d you offered that the a f d couldn't? well, the short answer would be, i know how's it off because he actually came from a politician who had
8:04 pm
a lot of tough was going with the a f t party to someone who is the most recognised politician and also very popular politician. he and saxony, and so it's safe to say that the other conclusion from these election results is that these elections will be a lot more personality driven even more so than last time around. gone. other days of the big tent parties gone other days of those voters that were safe in the back for any party that they could complete the bank on. and this is also something that the greens will have to think about to disappointed here in these elections, they are still on the rise nationwide, although they showed a slight dip. but it's actually unhealthy, certainly prove the exception from the rule that the green party is a force in government to reckon with. because that very role as part of the coalition is currently under threat here. right,
8:05 pm
well we're going to move to frontier in the studio. and now what does this c d u. victory mean on a national level? like, is it likely that the party will repeat this success in september? is it too early to tell? it certainly will give the c d u a boost. there's a lot of happiness in the faces of c d. u representative today because they have scored a significant victory here. but on a national level to see you as a lot weaker than these 36 percent that it pulled insects and the unheard. it's somewhere around 25 to 30 percent. and it's the biggest challenge at the moment on a national level are the green's is the green party. so that's a completely different face off that we can expect in the national elections. and those are still 4 months away. so a lot can still happen in that time. so the c d u will take some sort of momentum from this result from these elections. but it's certainly not a done deal that it's going to have as much success in the national reactions as it
8:06 pm
had in this region. all right, so it's not a done deal, but what are you taking away from these results? is there anything that really stood out for you surprised you perhaps? i think what's important to what was important in this region is that there was a kind of face off between the c d, u and the a f d. the election was in fact, in the sense posed as this kind of face off. and in that situation, a lot of that is when the cd you way, in fact, i think a lot of photos left their traditional parties such as the greens or maybe the social democrats and voted conservative in order to stop the a, f d. that's not going to be the case on the national level. what we need to look at at the national level is really how the somewhat smaller parties do that concerns the social democrats who no longer no longer a very big party. they're just and also run party these days that concerns the greens to some extent, concerns the liberal, free democrats, and also the socialists left. all of these parties have potentially enough boats on
8:07 pm
a national level to play a role in the coalition government. and there will be a coalition government between the conservatives and several other parties. that's really the question that's open until the end of september. and we can't really take much information from what happened today towards those kind of coalition building scenarios for the end of september, right? well, we'll be keeping a close eye on it for sure. we're going to leave it there. dw political correspondent hands behind. here in the studio, and chief political editor for the w. b. k. look of not in saxony, and how, thanks to both of you. right, we'll, we'll cross over to the regional headquarters of the a, f d in a moment, but 1st look at why the a f d was thought to post such a threat to the christian democrats in eastern germany. fair foot is an idyllic little time. when germany's largest medieval castile sits right in its center. life is tranquil here. there is hardly any crime. may 2021 was campaign season
8:08 pm
has too much to schneider represents the a f d in the local kind. so as well as instruct me on her state parliament, one in 3 people in class who have voted for the a f d in the past to schneider, one over voters with messages that play well here the we will introduce 3 daycare and frisco lunches. we will also start at deportation offensive and immediately deport all immigrants who don't have a residency, permanent blanket prejudices of this sort about. immigrants and refugees find considerable support here must be the big foreigners, for example, because foreigners have more special rights than we germans do. and that's not ok. so a notion that far from the truth and there are hardly any immigrants here. anyway, this can be traced back to the history of east germany. the german democratic republic, or g d. r was a separate country from the rest of germany until 990. and it was the socialist
8:09 pm
dictatorship, authoritarian and militaristic social diversity was not desired. an immigration was only rarely allowed. if d e d r citizens, over through the government, germany was re unified in ones, but the economy and social infrastructure of the former east germany collapsed. many people felt they were let down and had lost out a sentiment that continues to shape the social climate in, in let, over the last 25 years, we have observed that many young people who are very mobile and had id as for shaping their own lives decided to leave eastern germany for social and economic and cultural reasons and also shine and those days here, even the younger generation intended to be the ones who were the most cautious, the most fearful. perhaps the ones most likely to articulate but prejudices. and
8:10 pm
these are exactly the people, the se, richard, the, the bar is the a f d court, claiming to be the party that will solve all their problems. but they also act devices. we don't know when we rule the country one day, then i promise you these shady molds will have another thing coming and then a new day will dawn for you. a se, voters don't mind radical speeches and they don't mind the fact that to schneider has ties to right wing extremists. on the contrary, what they want here is a party who rejects what democratic germany stands for a culturally diverse society, probably dw correspondent bank. i mean, out of the globe is the alternative for germany party headquarters in saxony. and how'd i bank? i mean, it looks like the a f d will end up with a smaller share of the vote in the last election in saxony,
8:11 pm
on health. and how's the party reacting where you are? that's right. it was a surprise bird. politicians here a few politicians went to the states as they manage to retain the voters off the last elections. the phil saying we just had the party candidate saying that this was a sign and a boost of the general elections in september. but if we consider that there was some pull, showy before i even in, in the lead against the conservative party of trensler on the back. of course, these numbers on as high as the ones that the expected. and i mean, what does this results mean for de s d heading into september's election? well, it's a rather symbolic election. we just had it from our colleague alex. now, with that 1200000 voters are, were invited to cast the ballads today. so it's rather symbolic, it's
8:12 pm
a boost for the current state premier will now will go into coalition talk that could be either the green party that social democrat the as to deal the business friendly as the p party. it's important to note that even if the, if the had reached the majority, it wouldn't have been able to get into the coalition with other parties as all the other parties have said that they would not have a coalition for them. so for them, it's an important boost, a several people that have talked when to the states year and it said that it is a success that they are showing that people still want to follow them, especially the programs that they had here in the state in the state of flux, and that has been rather nationalistic, and even more radical than other parts of the country. so even though the numbers could not reach the numbers that they tried to show and the numbers that several pools have shown, they are trying to sell it as a success. right? so they're trying to set it as a success. you said it there, the pre election post suggested the result would be much closer. why do you think
8:13 pm
that the f, the fail to build on its f o chair though it might be that they see to you now also campaign in the last days since this post came out, showing that if for a party would reach majority in the states they tried also to appeal to voters. we just had parlor one of the top parties, candidates saying that people here voted more conservative. important to remember that there is a fall right party. it is under surveillance in several parts of the country and the youth organization off this party is also under surveillance by domestic intelligence agency. so that's something we've heard from the church of the party trying to show themselves as a conservative spot. they are far more on the right spectrum of the of the political spectrum. all right, we'll leave it there dw cards, fund and been coming out about the globe. our thanks so much for joining me
