are added every season and we continue to get up close and personal with animals. but the next ones we are about to encounter are a bit less ferocious than those seen at the safari park. british artist, debbie lawson has a passion for bears kangaroos and other wild animals, but she expresses her love for them through sculpture. she creates her life like creatures from carpets, and they often take the viewer by the price, the artwork that have you, rubbing your eyes and amazing at times how to identify. they sometimes leap out into the room, attending the perspective in the studio in london's hackney district, carpets get a new list of life as wild animal. british artist, debbie lawson begin creating lifestyle is carpet sculptures from 10 years ago.

you start with the pattern in the middle, which is like a focal point, pull your eye in, and then i carry on the pattern of the legs in the quite sort of symmetrical way and merge the feet into the carpet so that you kind of almost can't see where it's coming out and i'm left with lots of bits that still need to be covered. and i can just use virtually any sort of little scraps of the same carpet to cover those up and your eyes, just pools all together. computing sculpture can take months. debbie lawson usually works and several pieces. similar tediously, almost all of the animals are commissioned. she needs up to 3 fully identical carpet for one school. so i started using real person carpets, but they usually seconds or damaged ones already, but i don't really want to cut up the artwork of somebody else. so i'm using copies all the time. now. in a 1st, it's debbie creates

a framework for the sculpture from chicken where she then fixes it with several layers that commit until the model becomes firm. finally, she adds carpet to onto the model using hot pieces and then close the material into shape. i'm quite a quiet, shy, reserved person and that's sort of i think that's how i operate. i want to become a flash disguised and disappearance background. i think that might have been one of the reasons behind making fast because the bed of the talking for me, i can hide in the background and enjoy the conversation that it's happening with people that are looking at in our school or cell for between 13024000 year old, depending on size, efforts involved and carpet quality. debbie had her artistic breakthrough in 2018 or 2 meter tall, red bear sculpture displayed at london, the 2018 royal academy. summer exhibition caused quite

a basic likelihood. the work is hard. the rewards often minimal reporting f. i managed to track down gold diggers in most money, money national park. he discovered that their efforts to survive a taking that told on the local wildlife that money money, mountains looked like an untouched paradise. but antonio of any knows better, he's once again on the trail of illegal gold prospectors. usually the streams around here are clear, but not this one. so there must be an illegal mine somewhere upstream in the middle of muslim beaks to money, money, national reserve. his ranges, detain every gold mine as i catch the listeners that don't you know, this is a nature reserve. no, i only arrived yesterday. i heard others were here with another. you know, this isn't allowed? no,
2:47 am
i didn't. a friend told me i should come. so he didn't know either, right, right. where the other, more than the gold diggers are called game perils. the ranges see this group for the 1st time and call the police and the repeat offenders face time in jail because the national park wants to win over the gold minus. and i was wondering when did i miss to? so when we find somebody for the 1st time home, just we try to educate them. so goes in, we talk to them about the negative impact of illegal goldmine. and we also tell them about alternative and opportunities, for example, tourism me. says that the but also about development projects in agriculture, in nature conservation and then to present order presented the muscle the guy and parents are a serious problem for the national park. thousands of people lost everything due to
2:48 am
cycling in 2019. now they are looking for gold and precious stones using the most 2 dimensional methods just to get an income. as a result, forests of being cut down and toxic mercury is contaminating the waters. so the national park is seeking to provide alternative sources of income. job to, to barter is one of the 1st beneficiaries of a job creation scheme. he trained as a veterinarian and now helps farmers look off to their cattle. the park is working with a conservation project called most bio, to create jobs for people who live in the areas bordering the park. before to barter became yvette he too was a gold prospector. well done, she had to do, did it? yes, i used to do too, but then i began to have down to understand that you can't always be a gold digger. did mean the more i take out, the less there is work until one day it's totally depleted. and if there's nothing
2:49 am
else, what should i live on? go make it. well, that's why i started working as a vet. it's been well worth the effort in a daddy. if you live in a since 2017, the park has created hundreds of jobs in agriculture. everything from organic coffee growing to sustainable beekeeping and livestock farming. but for many, gold is still more repealing. new mines are always popping up. this one blocks and important elephant pulse on the edge of the punk a team from the ministry of mineral resources and energy is on site. ok last week police evicted some guy pedals and burned down de camp. obeta martini the ministries inspector general wants to make sure the mind remains closed, spots at the same time. he also wants to make a deal with the minus was up and others are

nice going to new on the more form or we want the people here to keep mining go bought in an organized manner that benefit both of them and the government, the size of the chef lawrence clinical, but at the to do this, they need to form cooperative them was when we have a program that helps minors set up their own co, operative and corporate peevish capacities that might not be coming up. i see we also teach the message that helped them to work more effectively without having such a negative impact on the environment specific as keepers, advil, me, ambient, to see what this can look like. we had to set out one of the 5 mining cooperatives in monica province, and the only one in the buffer zone bordering the pass any most and b can, can become a member. but they have to hand over a 3rd of their proceeds as taxes and fees. the gold is mind and sold legally. the tunnels are safe and the ministry has donated simple tools.
2:51 am
however, some mine is use highly toxic mercury to bind gold dust from the mud. the board member and the co operative ellis sail macomber says it's the only way to stay competitive because illegal. mine is don't care about environmental regulations so they can push down the price noise going on. why are we as a cooperative left behind? but again, where we have to have worked at the people, we have to register them, monitors work, pay taxes and government to use god. when there's a problem, for example, if one of our members has an accident in mind, we have to take them to the hospital and i mean them. so it's very difficult to compete with the legal mind here, guys, some. meanwhile, antonio and of any is meeting one of the 15 beekeepers supported by the park and by
2:52 am
the conservation group. most bio, he is unsure about the mining work in said say the use of mercury is a serious violation of the rules. but the mining cooperative has at least prevented hundreds of illegal guy and parents from coming to the park to look for gold. still give any doesn't want another co operative here. he prefers to talk about the success of sustainable agriculture, which he hopes can be expanded. about disease which was used with agriculture, a project of which be keeping is just one example in this we have been able to reduce at a negative impact humans have on the environment by half dead as he started. oh, oh, for one thing, we currently see that deforestation is decreasing disorders them into the rest of the successes are sorely needed. the mind blocking the elephant path where the police burned down the camp is fully operational again,
2:53 am
by the very next day. the guy pedals will not stop looking for gold because they need the money to be on board. if they stop from digging here all the people will starve to death by mining that we can at least buy some food if and pay school fees for school fees. i cannot stress that enough if the illegal prospect is will surely continue searching for gold. it's more dangerous than working in the co operative but also more lucrative. and now for today's global snacks, we had to brazil, the brazilian, the capital of brazil. as the t famous for its modern architecture, the and in the whole of the metropolis, a post station with a color and i rejected the pos delivery episode. the specialty is tough,
