neighboring russia for help, and russia is now leading an alliance of former soviet states in dispatching with baycove peacekeeping forces. the protest were sparked by soaring fuel prices and are now in their 5th day. ah, this eye witness footage gives some idea at the level of unrest continuing through the night in kazakhstan, looting, and an attempt to break into a local bank after skirmishes with security forces. a rush of lead military alliance has now agreed to dispatch peacekeeping forces to kazakhstan, after the country's president asked for help in controlling the protests. the unrest originally began over the weekend in the remote oil hub of jan. i was then at the price of fuel, but the unrest quickly spread to other cities leading to a nation wide state of emergency. in our marty police were

deployed to curb the unrest. but tear gas and stung grenades have done little to dissuade the crowds. neither have hundreds of arrests or the imposition of a curfew and newton restrictions in several regions. cassock president cathy joe mac or kaya said he would reinstate price controls. but protest is a now calling for political change beyond the price of fuel. in a surprise, move president took higher sack the government and took control of the state security committee ousting, former president and long time ruler, new assault. and as of i have talk i f as lent on the military and is now called on the collective security treaty organization, a moscow based alliance of 6 former soviet countries for assistance which has been granted catholics. dan's authoritarian government usually tolerates little real opposition. but this time, the protest, his anger seems to have caught the authorities off guard but on him and i was

journalist bruce pannier central as, as asia specialist is following the story for us from prague, bruce, the internet has been shut down in kazakhstan. now, what is the latest that you're hearing from your sources on the ground there? well, there seems to be some partial restoration of the internet, but last night, late late. i don't know if they tried to block it out again. you know, you mentioned that russia agree that they were going to send some troops over there to help out. and there's, there is a, what they're calling because it's on a counter terrorism operation underway and all my t at the moment. so i'm sure that the internet is down and all my t and there's probably a block out and some of the other, other nearby regions to some of the big cities as well. so it's, it's not been hard to get information for days out there. and you know, they come to the point get to the point where they think they've restored order. normally i would imagine will be very difficult to connect. well,
10:05 am
the size of the protests, it does come as a surprise, really, how could a small uprise against fuel prices get this serious? what's the background to all this? well, there's been, some are intentions out there for quite some time. i mean, there's a huge disparity wealth in that country. people connected to the former president, nurses or family members have been very well. i mean, some of them are billionaires, they own luxurious properties in europe, for instance, in the middle east. you know, where is that the average person is getting by on, you know, couple $100.00 a month and some, in some cases, even less than that. so there's, there's some problems with social benefits over the years working conditions. you know, so there's really a whole whole full of problems that have been that have come up in the last 2 years and, and, you know, the still price hike just was the catalyst. you know, the set off the whole, you know, for everyone to vent their frustrations for many, many years. you know, and i should mention also of course,
10:06 am
that came in their notes or by a resigned in march 2019. there were expectations on the part of many people that this was going to be a new era cost on, but you know, it never, never materialized. the government continue to operate exactly as it did. there were no opposition parties registered, no rule reforms were implemented in the country. you know, so, so people just like to say got frustrated that up for nearly 3 years. really nothing had changed except the time and who was the president of the country? well, the so called collective security treaty organization will send peacekeepers now to because i've done this at the company's request. does that mean that russian troops will crack down on the protesters? well, it's, it's interesting crackdown might not be exactly the right word. cars are forced to seem to be already working. and now, you know, i want to make clear to that as far as i've been able to tell this is only happening in all the other on the very big country. you know, so, but you know, the appearance of russian force on the streets of all the will bring back horrible
10:07 am
memories in the soviet era without a doubt. but it might be enough to restore, help restore in that area. but there's a lot of problems are going to pay for this in the future. you know, people in cars, some will not be happy to try to resort calling in, you know, the c s t o to help him out. you know, and he's, he's framed this late all of a sudden last night is in the work of a band of terrorists who are trained outside the country. and it was absolutely no evidence that that's the case. this appears to be purely a popular uprising. you know, it's sort of ridiculous if you look at the picture, some of the protesters or oil workers, you know, women, people like that. how these got to be a band of terrorists who are trained outside the country. i have no idea, but use that as the free text to call in the c s. no, he's going to pay a price for that for you know, the days, months, years to come. problem, journalist bruce, plenty of that. thank you very much. thank you. all straight liam has agreed to

christ harrington or chris, what more can you tell us about this? well, the legal proceedings will resume on monday, so that give you no legal team for no back a little bit more time to prove their case. and, you know, try to have him stay in the country so he can actually defend his australian open title. or these and work out like a prime minister had suggested that he would immediately get back on the plane and depart back. so remains to see what he has been given an exemption, hasn't he and a but now the, the, the australian government says it's invalid or how does. yeah. well, you know, the local government, you know, he submitted, you know, his paperwork anonymously, they approved it. and then the catholic. com is because a federal government obviously conflicts and says the people speculate that his exemption was tied to the idea that he came down with the he contract a coven, over the summer. hence, being one of the, you know, the reasons that you can, you know, not be vaccinated and so forth. and i, it looks like from what i gather,
10:10 am
the federal government decides that criteria no longer will, it will be accepted now. so we have to wait and see, you know, as i said, you know, what will happen. but in joke of it's his case, it's tough because he is chasing history. you know, in this australian open, if he does have the opportunity to compete. so if e in the end is allowed to stay and play this whole debacle, what does that mean for his preparation? what preparation, i mean, he's in a detention hotel. it's unclear how big it is. i mean, the only thing he can do is mentally prepare, you know, maybe he can go over some notes in terms of physical preparation, getting fresh air doesn't look like that'll be the case. may be his best bet is play some video game simulation or something like this a maybe, you know, he's chasing his 21st grand slam tile for men's singles. that was separate him from other greats. you know, he fell short of the us open last year. he lost in the final, you know, so with no preparation him achieving that. a very tall order gear. so today is

which he believes in alternative medicine. he's made that point very clear, you know, so to categorize him as an anti vax might be a reach, you know, but nonetheless, you know, i think the pressure around the world is suggesting everyone become vaccinated. that's definitely what the prime minister was trying to articulate in a. we have to wait and see, you know, this will effect, you know, no back joke of it or not the other athletes that have been divisive on this man croissant instead of your sports. thank you. thank you. bye. in europe for french parliament has taken 1st steps towards tightening restrictions against the unvaccinated. if it's passed, a new bill would require people to have all their corona, virus vaccinations. if they want to dine out, attend cultural events or take the train. this off to france, you hit yet another high of new corona virus cases in a single day. almost 3 quarters of ice. you beds across the country are said to be
