really experience something very outstanding here right now because it is really rare to hear such a harsh and personal criticism from a sitting president about a former president. i mean, you talked about a drums breeze bruised a go and he made it crystal clear that he a things are that he is responsible not only for the storming of the capital, but really for the, for the really existential threat of american or president. so somewhere kind of expect them or abide into re affirmed valid or ability of the union and to kind of reach out to the other side maybe and keep building bridges as he a promise when he was running for president. but this definitely was a clear and very outspoken a tank on donald trump, whose name he actually never mentioned. he mentioned he just refer to them as the former president. right. so what then,
3:46 pm
what's the point of this between we know it was to, to, to mark the year. okay. so that year was mark, but that, that the speech was so directly attacking that the lives as he call them it, it, it was almost, i don't know is almost triumphant. what i one jew lost a deal with it. it's what was that what, what was he trying to do beyond mark that year? well 1st of all, phil, i think, and he really gave up hope that is that it is possible to convince are those who firmly stand with trump in outside the republican kind of lawmakers, a but also probably regarding those republican lawmakers who still kind of support donald trump and talk about that the elections were stolen and he, i think he also really wants to push for forward or like all the
3:47 pm
reforms which are needed to protect a democracy here when it comes to warding rights. because this is a huge problem in this country. as we see, gerrymandering is happening all over people are put in a kind of political offices which will a kind of or which are meant to protect the coming elections. so this is, i think, the big picture we experience today, he just really wants to put out the message, people this country, this democracy is really under attack. and we do have to use the next months until we are still. and since we are still in power to do everything, to bring the bills through, which might help to protect the constitution and the democracy in this country. ok, thanks. but there is, i mean it's important to remember william cru, crawford
3:48 pm
a year on behalf been arrests. there have been charges laid and there are still 2 at least 2 investigations into those events going on. that's right. and this is the nice it is going to one of the most complex biggest it criminal investigations in its history. prosecutor say as many as 2500 people may have been involved in this attack where the physically there or not give me some kind of support may have been a, there may been a 1000 incidents of assault level and other kinds of crimes that were committed there's been more than $700.00 arrests there more than $350.00 people still at large at federal agents across america are looking for this is a massive case and a challenging one because prosecutors are trying to figure out what do we actually charged people with that fits this crime because a lot of what people did were small time offenses breaking and entering damaging property um, illegally carrying a weapon. for example. these don't carry not all these carry huge sentences. so,
3:49 pm
but the sum of the parts of the small time parts is one of the most serious attacks on democracy and prosecutors are having a difficult time. and judges are having a difficult time. figuring out how to actually categorize and weigh these kinds of crimes. and a lot of these people were, 1st time offenders have no criminal record and we're saying they just got caught up and got carried away. and then you have the political side of things where mostly democrats, very few republicans, are looking at the political ramifications. the role that big time media figures, especially like fox news, ah, members of the trumpet ministration. maybe donald trump, himself, if they had any, legally culpable role in planning or supporting this attack at bay can be held legally accountable for. so we have these kind of twin investigations. and of course, we should note that we have politically speaking the mid terms in november. if the democrats lose the house in november, at least on the political side of things, those investigations will probably be shut down. ok, let's pick up that point with
3:50 pm
a, with in his poll in washington because that it is a william, they're making the point that it's not just that the little people, not just the rioters who have been a picked up in these investigations by that. the justice department and the house select committee, where they going after the big base as well up to and including donald trump. yes i do, but so far i, it doesn't look like that. he really will be, hold accountable for what he did as, as william just pointed out, am i going after those who were actually on the ground to worse storming the capital? and that is quite interesting that the f b i's using a lot of, of footage a, which of the riders themself put out on social media to get them. but as for now, the big names, those who really are kind of the, the brains behind that incident that, that at tank on the american a democracy are still on the hook. and, and many i think that it won't happen that donald trump will ever kind of
3:51 pm
phase of the penalty. he what many people think should because basically there are just too many republicans who still support him because they think he will run again. they know that he is still very, very powerful with in the republican party. and we see what happens to those republicans who are outspoken against him and, and exactly actually say the same thing. what we just heard from president biden, that donald trump is responsible for the attack on january 6, like las cheney, for example. they face a lot of, well, a lot of criticism within their own party and their future is really at stake. so this kind of puts a donald trump in the position that he still is really powerful over it over its own party, over the g o. p. ok,
3:52 pm
so final word to you then william blue croft will debatable to they speech from the american president, leaving everyone in no doubt about how grave he regarded the events of a year ago to day democracy was attacked. the constitution faced its gravest of attack and also whom he held responsible. yeah, i mean there's no doubt about that and we should make something very clear. this was not based on all the evidence that have come out so far. this was not a spontaneous, chaotic event. yes, there were people there who did get caught up in the chaos and weren't there planning to commit any crimes. but there were also people there with military experience with the law enforcement experience. members of far right groups of militia groups who came with tactical gear, who came with the kinds of um, restraining devices and other kinds of equipment to actually carry out an attack against property and people that there was a plan here that we now know from far right,
3:53 pm
chat groups on line on social media that there was planning here. and we should be very clear that this was not just some spontaneous event and it really was an attack on democracy. and it wasn't something that came out of nowhere as bite in reference in his, in his remark just now america has a long history struggling with white supremacy with white nationalism, with right wing extremism. remember before the 911 attacks, the most serious terrorist attack on american soil was the oklahoma city bombing, which was carried out by timothy mcveigh, a white supremacist in 1995 and the f. b, i has repeatedly said that far right extremism, white nationalism is one of the most gravest threats to the united states. so this should not be seen in isolation. what happened on january 6th, but part of a continuum that unfortunately has been getting more and more extreme as the decades go by. and in the last 30 seconds of the show at a contested a still though a contested view of events of a year ago. indeed,
3:54 pm
because we have people living in a warm hole of social media, of, of echo chambers, of, of, of just ideological bubbles. and people will believe what they want to believe. now, it's, um, it's still a minority of people according to polls. but we, the history is rife with examples of a minority of people um doing very, very great things and changing the course of history for countries and for societies. and so, although the majority of americans are seeing things for the where they are, that doesn't mean that the united states is out of the woods by any means. ok, william blew. crofton. thank you so much for your assistance in your company. across the last an hour. so we've been watching a special a program as we listen to joe biden, talking about the events of a year ago. i'm going to give a final word to you in a poll in washington. biggest take away from today. well,
3:55 pm
this probably was the strongest speech of joe biden in his presidency. and obviously he has given up hope to reach out to the trump supporters and he made it crystal clear that the american democracy is under and take and all, all people who want to protect this democracy are now needed to do so. thank you so much in his pole in the washington. thank you and william, blue cross with me here in the studio or the other big story of the day. of course, our concerns kazakhstan, police, in that countries that largest city al mattie have told us state made that dozens of protesters were killed and what they called an attempt to storm administrative buildings and police stations. they say several police officers were also killed. catholic sans president has reached out to neighboring russia for help. after describing the demonstrators of terrorists. russia is now leading in the lines of former soviet states and sending what they call peacekeeping forces. the 1st
3:56 pm
protest was brought by soaring fuel prices. and now in the 5th day, ah, this eye witness footage gives some idea at the level of unrest continuing through the night in kazakhstan, looting, and an attempt to break into a local bank. after skirmishes with security forces, a rush of lead military alliance as now agreed to dispatch so cold peacekeeping forces to catholics, dom after the countries president asked for help in controlling the protests. the unrest originally began over the weekend in the remote oil hub of shannon was then at the price of fuel. but the unrest quickly spread to other cities leading to a nationwide state of emergency in our marty, the police were deployed to curb the unrest. but tick gas and stung grenades have done little to dissuade the crowds. neither have hundreds of arrests or the

imposition of the curfew. and newton restrictions in several regions. cassock president, cathy, joe, matt, talk, i of said he would reinstate price controls. but protest does the now calling for political change beyond the price of fuel. yes. remember, so more on that in the course of the afternoon and of course analysis. so also off of what we've just been watching over the last hour joe biden's speech to the american people have a good day. ah ah ah ah ah
