on d w ah ah ah, this is d w. news live from berlin, g 7 countries say they'll never recognize russia's claims over ukraine. territory. japanese foreign minister says moscow won't succeed in re drawing maps through force g 7 nation bowed to support ukraine until victory. also coming up ukraine claims success and pushing russian forces away from khaki, russia, abandoned tanks and territory as it pulls back from ukraine, 2nd city. but president zalinski want on long haul ahead.
3:01 pm
ah, amena mohammed walked into the program. foreign ministers from the group of 7 countries say they will reject russia's attempt to change international borders by force. she 7 ministers, the dress rushes invasion of ukraine at their meeting in northern germany. german foreign minister adelina burbock, also called for an end to russia's blockade of ukraine's ports. accusing moscow of waging a food war on the world by causing millions of tons of grain to go to waste. the g 7 vow to increase pressure on russia through sanctions. and called on china to not undermine international efforts to isolate moscow. or germany's foreign minister said the g 7 with support ukraine financially and militarily, as necessary. listen to this,
3:02 pm
we support every measure and every step they are taking to ensure that people in ukraine and this is also our common goal as g 7 can live as everybody else in europe again in peace, but also insecurity and freedom in their own country and we will support ukraine on this pass was whatever it take to ensure that they have freedom and peace in their own country. and we have also made very clear that it's our go that rush. this bridge was international law that the imperial strategy, often aggression, which reaches international peace order and law will not succeed. what is happening is the chief international editor, richard walker's at the g 7 meeting, and he has more on the support being promised for ukraine. so yeah, what the,
3:03 pm
i think what they've been talking about here at the g 7 foreign ministers is the kind of support the g 7 countries have been providing over the last 2 or 3 months of the war. and obviously a lot of financial support has been humanitarian support and increasingly, over the last couple of months in a recent weeks has been increasing military support. right up to kind of heavy weapons that we've seen western countries providing. and right here at the g 7 foreign ministers meeting, the used foreign policy chief announced another 500000000 euros of european union money for heavy reference to go to ukraine. so there's that on the one hand, but also they're talking about trying to provide ukraine with support or with the issue of grain which you just mentioned in the, in the lead up just there. the fact that there are 25000000 tons estimated to be stuck in ukrainian harbor harbors can't get out on to the high seas because russia is blocked blockading those ports. and alina burbock had a pretty strong message on that. so we can take a listen to a clip,
3:04 pm
millions of tons of grain, you are lucky, blocked by russia in ukraine's ports in a historic moment of this kind. we as g 7 must ask ourselves the question of whether in this year 2022 we had done enough in order to mitigate the impact and crisis of this war together. this is not our war. this is not a war waged by the international community. this is a war waged by the russian president, but we share a global responsibility and looking forward, they will be talks around sweden and finland, possibly joining nato. what's the latest on that? yeah, that's right so. so the kind of diplomatic action here in germany is moving down to berlin now, where the countries that are members of nature will be gathering for
3:05 pm
a meeting of the next couple of days in finland and sweden. they will be present at that meeting too, because those 2 countries now want to join nato as a response to russia's invasion of ukraine to boost their own security. but just at the last minute rich had tire out to one the turkish president on friday. it said that he was skeptical about these 2 countries joining nato that he objected to them as a supposedly harboring terrorists. so i put a question to angelina burbock the, the german foreign minister, just earlier given that germany has strongly supported the accession of these 2 countries to nato. what she made of ad one's comments. so we can take a listen to that clip to in no uncertain terms. it wasn't nato that convinced finland and sweden or pushed finn and sweden to join nato. it was entirely down to the behavior and actions of the russian president because he
3:06 pm
has basically force them into this alliance because they wanted to live peacefully with their neighbors. and i very much hope that their accession is approved. so clearly showing signals of hope and optimism for these accession talks to be approved. how likely is that to happen? will to be clear. i mean, turkey does have the ability as a nato ally or to stop or another joy, a country joining nato rules do say that a unanimous agreement by all of the allies is needed for a new alloy to, to join nation. but what is not clear yet, and this is really very fresh, these comments relative to add. one is just how serious he is. if he really does want to go to the point of completely blocking a sweden and finland from joining nato. or if he's, he's known as a leader who's kind of transactional in his diplomacy. if he wants something,
3:07 pm
if he's out to get some kind of concessions or certainly there, you can expect this weekend of diplomacy as it moves down to berlin to be quite frantic in trying to work out. what are the turks playing at here? or is there something that they want, or is this a very, very serious objection to these 2 countries joining nato. burt, who, however, this turns out you can certainly imagine that vladimir putin will be happy to be seeing this. certainly, the expansion of nato is a huge setback for him. somebody who extensively wants to prevent nato from expanding at all. he will certainly be quite pleased. i think, to see this careful over edwin's comment. right. d, w as chief international editor, mr. walker. thank you so much. was your cranes? mercury says russian forces have pulled back from territory around the 2nd largest city. hi keith. it says russia is trying to guard at supply roots and focus the tax on regents further. east present, flood him is the lens. he says more than 1000 settlements have now been de occupied,
3:08 pm
but he's warned of a long war ahead. these were left behind in a village east of hockey, of when the russian army was forced to retreat. ukrainian soldiers have managed to retake several villages on the outskirts of the city, but they remain on high alert. oh, positive with but belittle to the front lines of the which is not stable. a philosophy molly, with all of the village, went from hand to hand to the waller. our guys took it back, it could kill that, pushed the russian forces out using artillery. we and kicked them out towards the border home. we blew out from their russian forces continue to launch artillery. moving behind the path of destruction, north of harkey, eve recent shelling destroyed this cultural center for local
3:09 pm
residents were receiving humanitarian aid. at least 2 civilians were killed in the attack. meanwhile, in the west of her cave residence have started to return to what is left of their homes. this village was liberated any a few weeks ago. oh, yes, sure. allusion of, of the thing over over, everything is destroyed. good. but we'll look at road or a little last year. the road was fixed and everything was getting better. yeah. but after the russian troops made darkness. oh, we came to rebuild our house. we need to live somewhere. we can't live in the subway forever. as residence, grapple with a scale of destruction here at least there's hope, but the will. wilson over i
3:10 pm
spoke to t w's, mathias bonia in here, and he has more and how the ukrainian forces have pushed back russian troops from around give ah, since or 10 days or, or one week approximately the ukrainians have been able to push the russian forces back from the city, the russian forces had entered the territories north of hark, if are quite early in the war and have been standing there. never shelling the city from there, pushing them back now. um and, and taking control of several village is there. um, it uses the pressure on the city, the they, the much of the russian or the city is out of the artillery range of much of the russian positions right now. and there is even, there are even experts who estimate that the russians were soon fully withdraw from their because they're under such a big pressure there. and there was, of course, be a major wind for ukraine. the city has suffered
3:11 pm
a lot in this war and which is talk us to some of the other places in the east where i'll ukrainian forces all russian forces making progress on either side. well, there are incremental gains for the russians in the dunbar on the dunbar. front, they are putting up more pressure on i see we're at the net which is one of the most important cities there in administrative center for the ukranian, one of 2 administrative centers with the ukranian control territories. um and in a, at, at other places of the front, however, these gains are not om breakthroughs are, they are incremental gains, things are moving slowly back and forth, and the ukrainians seem to be a withstanding the pressure quite well and holding their line. so for now, there is no decision, but it fights are intensifying. there's a lot of heavy artillery working on in these places, and there are many, many soldiers on both sides that facing each other. so this is really
3:12 pm
a very tough environment and no decision is there yet in which direction it is going and what's the feeling among ukrainians living there right now? and there is a lot of hope that ukraine might win this war and might win these battles from the beginning. the russian army has proven a lot less capable than many hard thought. old equipment, badly trained soldiers, bad logistics tanks, running out of fuel, et cetera, et cetera. we had all these news pretty much from the beginning of the war. and whereas ukraine has shown itself well prepared with a lot less equipment and a loss, a lot less military capability in terms of off of weaponry and, and, and money and etc, etc. um, but yeah,
3:13 pm
ukraine has made the best out of out of the situation. that's consensus here in the country under the hope is that with the arrival of additional weaponry, ukraine might really beat them back. how long this will take and what the estimates are is of course it's hard to foresee and things can also change on the ground quickly. it's a war and was take turns that nobody had expected, sometimes to dudley is mateusz falling in here. thank you much as well. off korea says it 1st covered 19 outbreak is spreading rapidly more than 20 people have died from the disease at least half a 1000000. others have suffered from curve at 19 like fever either can junglin has blamed the outbreak on incompetence within his party. he has long resisted international office to help masks and social distancing. commonplace, almost all over the world over the last 2 years. but
3:14 pm
a 1st for north korea's liter, for over 2 years, kim jung own maintained that his country had no cases of the corona virus. their borders have been closed since january 2020. but now kim has described the coven 19 outbreak as a great disaster. china has already offered its support to help curb the virus to young tova. china is willing to increase cooperation and fighting the pandemic toll and at the same time to provide support and help according to north korea's needs. north korean media says the country will learn from china as strict approach to containing the virus. nationwide quarantine measures are nice supposed to be in place. but north korea has so far refused to accept an offer of vaccine donations from china. it is also turned down western vaccine supplied via the kovak scheme. and i break could be disastrous for the 26000000 people of north korea. without
3:15 pm
vaccinations, it citizens are incredibly vulnerable and limited testing means the real size of the outbreak could be far greater than pyongyang has admitted all that sinews updates. coming up next is well stories. i'll see you later. bye. ah ah. ah. ah. ah, a rear naturally spectacle and an improved world ah, the meeting of the loom whale sharks of the remote island of saint hulu.
