a tax on ukraine's don fos region. a lot of me as a lansky says moscow wants to destroy everything there. and he, hales the courage of his people and resisting the invasion. ah hello, i'm terry martin. welcome to the program. we begin in the united states for 19 children, and 2 adults have been killed in a school shooting in texas. the attack happened at an elementary school in the town of u baldy and near the mexican border, police killed the 18 year old shooter. the tragedy once again raises the question, for many americans, what can be done to stop gun violence? now we have a gripping plea after yet did not the mass shooting? when are we got to do something?
11:02 am
i'm tired. i'm so i'm so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to to the devastated families that are out there. i'm so tired of, excuse me, i'm sorry, i'm tired of moments with filess enough. at least 19 children and 2 teachers were killed at this texas elementary school. the suspect, the tudor, in 18 year old was believed to be armed with both a hand gun in a semi automatic rifle. odd, the suspect is deceased. at this point, the dps is assisting with the investigation, and at this point the investigation is leading to tell us that the the suspect a bid act alone during this heinous crime, president joe biden returned home to a country reeling from another mass shooting, asking the questions on the minds of many, why are we willing to live with this current each? why don't we keep letting this happen?
11:03 am
we're in god's name is our backbone. have the courage to do with stand up to the lobby's, grieving families waiting to know if their kid survived. we can get anything we can get any anything as little as they're okay. they're not okay. or we're still waiting or you know, no, no information has been received. any of the parents are a desperate weight, but not an isolated incident that already been more than $200.00 mass shootings in the us this year. something fought to many family members and friends have to go through our correspondence soon. so misconduct is monitoring the story from washington short while ago she gave us this update. terry, we are getting more pictures of pieces of the picture coming in to us. and as you said, 19 children dead and at least 2 adults, we know that others are still being treated in the hospital. we don't know how many,
11:04 am
but we should say that the death toll could continue to rise among the students i want to underline. we're talking about kids who are in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade. so here in the u. s that means kids from around 6 years old to around 11 who attended this elementary school and authorities of the night of, in speaking with the families of the victims, taking dna samples to identified children. and they've said that they will only release more information to the public to the media. once all of the families have received a full information about their loved ones, we don't know how long that process will take. as for the shooting, we know this was a lone gunman, 18 years old. she attended the high school in val day and we heard that he actually shot his grandmother before getting the car. heading to the school he went in and proceeded to shoot in this classroom. these classrooms being reported that he had a rifle that he purchased legally on is 18th birthday, and that he was wearing a body armor of some sort. and terry, i just want to add about this community. it's a very small community,

fairly close to the mexican border, heavily latino, latina and this was the end of the school year. we're hearing heartbreaking details that in this element re, school, there was actually an honors awards ceremony just hours before the shooting. parents attended that these kids were just a few days away from summer vacation. and now these parents facing an unspeakable tragedy. some of them are not going home with their children to renew anything about the motive of the shooter. so me authorities are trying to piece that together right now. there are federal and local law enforcement agencies on the ground picking apart evidence. we know from other mast shootings in the u. s. that a social media accounts are really important. and apparently this shooter did post some violent messages online. but we don't know, terry, if he attended this elementary school at any point, whether he intended to attack this school at all, or most importantly why he would commit this crime. we're made it waiting for more
11:06 am
details to come in on that. and we heard present joe biden urging the nation to stand up to the gun lobby. we've heard those appeals before. of course, is there any chance that this time gun laws will be changed to make these my shootings less likely? there seems to be very little chance of that, terry. i mean, as you said, there was an emotional address from president biden demanding action. we heard that echoed across washington from democratic senators representatives, and this is just 10 days after the racist rampage in a supermarket. and buffalo that killed 10 black americans. you know, there has been bipartisan support in the house of representatives the past. what is called common sense gun regulation to strengthen background checks, restrict who can access weapons. but that has always hit a wall in the senate where republicans have blocked any efforts to move forward. and indeed we saw republicans saying in the aftermath of the shooting that it is time to actually step off armed protection at schools rather than regulation. so
11:07 am
again, terry avenue for change does look slim here, and i just want to add president biden asking the question and his address a are we ready to take on the gun lobby and the national rifle association. the re, one of the most powerful lobby groups in the u. s. is actually holding its annual convention in texas this weekend among the announced the speakers of the former president, donald trump sumi, thank you so much, our washington correspondents to me. so musk under their or some other stories making headlines around the world today. north korea has fired 3 ballistic missiles. south korea's military says, authorities in sol in sol say they appeared to be preparation for con young's 7th nuclear test. us present, joe biden has just wrapped up a trip to asia during which he agreed to new measures to deter south north korea. u. k prime minister boris johnson is bracing for the release of a report into alleged lockdown breaking in his offices. the report probes

sometimes just a few few meters or kilometers, but at they're adding up actually and the pressure is very high on the ukranian troops. now, there are a zebra dot net that you've just mentioned on the neighboring city of lisa johns, are at risk of beating, being cut off from the world from, from the rest of the country. and that would be a few dozens of thousands of people being trapped there. ah, 2 weeks lucy chance has been without water today. a truck is expected to bring drinking water and others have been standing here for hours. actors, no one knows when they're going to bring it more than 20000 people to remain in the city. fighting along the main road has made access difficult and the city itself is by no means a st. have no. what do you think of these normal living
11:11 am
conditions? it's very difficult to watch and always this roaring funder above your head, full of the a few kilometers. from here things are even more dia, assistance, city of c, over the next than the constant fire, a bridge that leads there has been bombed, effectively trapping those who remain there. that is a fade that could also await lucy chance. if fighting along the road continues, the city has already taken quite a few hits. the government is trying to arrange evacuations while it's still possible. a few dozen people have been told that the bus would pick them up today.
11:12 am
and they were hoping that things might be okay, but when shell sly of your head and houses are burning, you just feel that you can't go on. our nerves are wrecked year when you've done this. nobody knows when the bus is coming and there's no way to ask internet and phone service are down in the basement. about 80 people have been sheltering for weeks some since the beginning of the war. mama, mama, i will, yes, laser will not give me the buses. mom says she would go if she knew where it's safe, but she doesn't know where to go to your to please, like mira has been given 10 liters of water. that's all for to day. she and a neighbor galena will have to come back soon at night, they stay in the basement dark
11:13 am

11:14 am
those areas that russian troops are advancing on? we were told that this bus came late at night that day, but other attempts have failed or they have partly failed. there was another evacuation scheduled after that. when it was when the, when they were able to just evacuate 6 people, although they were hoping to evacuate around 40, but it was impossible, obviously for the people to get to the evacuation point. the buses that run their ahmed ve goes because there is always the danger of being shot at when they leave the city. so things are very dire and the the window where it's still possible to evacuate people from there seems to be closing. mathias thank you very much. d. w. as much as putting a reporting from the city of corolla tossed and ukraine's eastern dumbass region and finally a dare devil tightrope walker has claimed
