terms? is anything going to change here? a lot of the other announcements that went along with that declaration in the strategic concept do change the military situation in europe. this is probably the 2nd most important day for nato in the post cold war era. only after the invocation of the article 5 of self defense provision after september 11th. in how far it went to recognize russia as a threat facing the entire alliance. and the military response to that, you know, what does this mean by threat? nato is defensive alliance. does this imply that they believe russia would intend to attack and nato member state they believe that the capability is there and that that threat might exist. and so the alliance as an organization dedicated to the security of its members is taking that threat very seriously. and as you heard, the secretary general mentioned in the previous class, they are increasing the response times of military forces and planning to station

more closer to that border of the alliance with russia. now let's rewind a few months here, because putin, one of the justifications for isn't vision of ukraine, was that nato had crossed a red line for him by trying to integrate ukraine into the alliance. is this a current expansion, another provocation against russia? is russia seeing it that way? anyway? it's hard to know exactly what i put in this thinking though he may well see it that way. but the counter argument is that especially a sweden and finland, especially with it's 800 mile border with russia. you know, the invasion of ukraine changed their calculations about security and about their desire to, to join with the alliance in sweden. as you know, after 200 years of neutrality. so while this may seem provocative to put in, it is a direct result of his failed strategy and the decision to invade ukraine in the
