ah, born modern lifestyles and the mediterranean meeting, people are hearing their dreams, a letter to me journey this week, d w ah, ah, this is dw news live from berlin on the eve of ukraine's independence day. their affairs of fresh attacks from russia. u. s. intelligence says russia is planning to strike civilian infrastructure in the days ahead and the killing of the daughter of a close putin. i promise,

calls in moscow for revenge. also coming on. shopping for energy, chancellor. all of shots is in canada to get access to new energy supplies. germany is trying to ease its dependence on russian oil and gas before the winter bus. can canada actually helped? ah, i'm good. hello. as well come to the program. ukraine is on high alert on the eve of independence day. all the possible russian attacks on civilian targets. b worse has also warned russia's planning fresh strikes. the warnings come at moscow's claim that ukraine was behind the killing of darya davina. the daughter of a prominent russian nationalist, keith has denied any involvement and is now expecting retaliation in the days ahead . august 24th is ukraine's independence day,

commemorating the end of soviet rule. but wednesdays anniversary also mocks 6 months since russia's invasion. you calling? there is no, we will never recognize someone's colors on our land in, in our sky. we are always ready to defend our blue and yellow flag, said christie. c seniors. all i ask now to commemorate heroes who gave the lies for those colors. with a moment of silence secretary, it dully leading up to independence day ukrainians got an e re exhibit lined up, destroy tanks. little alert july. they must know the history. the history is being born in britain. now, this is their age, this is what they will tell. they are children. i don't want him not to know something. i want them to see what the horror of voice actually showed the case for him to really disadvantage me. i was awesome. i believe that we will definitely win . and in fact, it is very beautiful that we made such an exhibition because patriotic places come

together and want to rush to go help or, and defend wichita, is that all the site that if a vc seemed of m. hi said this, have been you my video. i was asked of them as a google google. it's been half a year. ready? sure. we want the war 2 and sooner. but it takes time. you have to understand even with hopes of a swift and to the war. there are fears that russia will step up its attacks. yes, official sworn of russian plans to strike ukrainian infrastructure. the killing of doria doggy. now the daughter of a closed, put in ally, has prompted calls for retaliation. rushes federal security service says ukraine is behind the attack, though keith denies any involvement. authorities in ukraine have banned bigger celebrations as a precaution this year. ukrainians will have a mutant independence day. now for this, we're joined by the w has won and roman gone to rank or from keith robin. the how

concerned is the government then keith, that russia may use? it's version of events that ukraine was behind his assassination. to, to use this to strike at ukraine of the government and kia is very concerned, but this has build up. so on it a very, it's a very special day independence day in, in ukraine. russia is trying to destroy that independence as many here are sure. and so this pressure has been building up for weeks, i would say, because ukraine presumably struck russian targets in crimea. russian military targets something which has never happened before. it's a new development and erm. there was no immediate retaliation from moscow to that than this killing of mentioned. which em makes tension even even higher. and then of course, the opinion government is urging it's, it's um, a people who work for it or to stay home this whole week. the public transports will erm work only,
12:05 pm
and in 21 hours there will be no usual celebration here in the heart of give, which is, which is actually a hard blow to the a crenan the soul, because it's a very special day and maybe people wanted to come to the city center and to, to listen to other people to speak to hear some music and, and to, to get some confidence. this will not happen for security reasons. there is a small hope that maybe this time russia would strike not as bad as some fear because there were all righty. so some similar dates in the past, like the 9th of may, which is victor a day used to be in the soviet union. and in russian's well, or the 22nd of june, which was the day that not to germany and invaded the soviet union of those 2 symbolic days were also expected for russia to do something in ukraine. but then nothing special happened. so by special i mean, we are in war, but there was no big rocket strike on on the capital. this is something that, that there is a small hope here in key. if that maybe this will not happen as well. but one
12:06 pm
cannot be sure. now with regard to the car bomb itself, how credible are these allegations by the russian intelligence service that the ukranian woman is behind this attack? well, it's hard, it's hard to check it because we have only one source, which is the russian secret service. and oh, in the pastor you had to be very careful to what they say of. there are many strange things here. one is how fast, how quickly the investigation was, was done. just in the, in a few days may be hours, then how quickly rushes president vladimir putin and was eager to condemn at enter to award a medal to, to the woman that was killed. and then am also from ukrainian point of view if ukraine should be behind it, which i personally doubt and many hanky of doubt. ah, it is a very, very unwise for ukraine to, to do such an attack on russian territory which hasn't,
12:07 pm
hasn't been done by ukrainian, by ukraine before on the eve of this independence day. because of course, russia would be tempted to retaliate and our, our, or now our calls for the russian government and to retaliate harshly including they are father of the victim himself. for said, i want not just revenge, i want victory. so this is being already used for russian propaganda. thank you very much. roman entre ranko from clear. thanks. now germany is trying to end its dependence on russian gas as winter approaches. german chancellor, all of shots is on a visit to canada, shopping for energy canada. currently supplies little of its fossil fuel to europe . both countries are looking to expand that partnership, but it looks like in the short term, canada can't offer much job. he's on a shopping trip, but there's nothing here to buy. at least not yet. chancellor olive shoals is in
12:08 pm
canada looking for new energy suppliers, as germany reduces its reliance on russia. we are working hard to become independent of disgust supply, and we are doing a lot of investments to make it happen. and we are doing it as fast as ever possible. never such an infrastructure has been built in germany in that a short time there. so canada has lots of natural gas, but currently few ways too, exported to germany or prime minister just intruder only promised to remove regulation to speed up for a future gas exports. so we are in a situation in the short term where we will do what we can to contribute to the global supply of energy by increasing our capacities in the short term and explore ways to see if it makes sense to export l n g. and if there's
12:09 pm
a business case for it to export l n g directly to europe. so no gas for now, but maybe later, another option, the chancellor is chasing, so called green hydrogen. canada's renewable power could be harnessed to create it . the german latest to it will continue with a visit to a remote town in canada as far northeast where green hydrogen technology development is underway. i'm a john, buddy w t. federal corresponded belinda crime, illinois. looks like germany's chancellor at vice chancellor have gone to canada, pleading for gas to get germany through the winter. but failed. is that what just happened? that is pretty much the bottom line, though, as we heard their prime minister trudeau was polite about it. and he did promise that canada will explore the options, but he mentioned the business case there by making it clear that he sees the options. problematic. canada's gas is mostly in the west of the country,
12:10 pm
but it would have to be shipped to europe from the east of canada requiring a major investment in pipeline infrastructure. and given that canada has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and coming years, it's unclear that that infrastructure investment would pay off. the candidate maybe is certainly bad news for germany. economics minister hubig has been working tirelessly to wind germany off of russian energy, as you said, including by commissioning floating liquefied natural gas terminals in the north of germany to receive gas from other sources. but where's it to come from? berlin has previously reached out to norway and to co. tar, but they were not much more accommodating. then mr. tudor, at our later today, schoultz and the trudeau will visit a propos hydrogen production slide in new foundland. what is germany hoping for there? and when can anything happen? well,
12:11 pm
germany's gas problem is not only about heating homes and keeping citizens warm, but it's very much about industrial output and jobs. this country's export power house of an economy is very energy hungry. much hope is in fact being placed in green, hydrogen, that's hydrogen fuel produced with renewable energy sources as an alternative to natural gas. and in fact, it seems that much natural gas infrastructure could be repurposed for hydrogen, but scaling up to a level that could sustain german industry is an expensive, long term undertaking. this hydrogen deal that mister schultz and mr trudeau will seal later today is tellingly named energy partnership for the future. and it won't go into effect until 2025. so it's not going to heat german homes or fuel german factories this winter. and that means that the german government is still facing a major challenge. you said it is that the deal is going coming into effect in 2025
12:12 pm
. what does that mean by then? that technology will be available. that is not clear. it is certainly an available now in pilot form, but scaling it up is an extremely complex and expensive undertaking. so i think there are a lot of bugs to be worked out, although hydrogen is of course, much hyped as one of the most promising energy sources in the longer term. linda, kind of thank you very much that have a quick look now at some of the other stores making headlines today. supporters of argentina vice president, christina from under the cushion i have rallied outside her residence. after closing you pose a 12 year prison sentence. notice facing charges of corruption from earlier as president, which she rejects as politically motivated. the verdict is expected. later this

year, thousands of demonstrators half rallied in hades, a major cities protesting ramp and crime. and the rising cost of living gang violence has left much of the country out of the government's control. inflation is also at a 10 year high, an analyst worn. the shortage of fuel could force businesses to close its world war to weaken unprecedented droughts and heat waves have put water scarcity in shop. focus among the most concerning shortages is on the tibetan plot . so it is the world's largest fresh water reserve providing for almost 2000000000 people on the continent. scientists say in the coming decades will see a total collapse of the water supply that the indus is a mighty body of water. but in just a few decades, this river might turn into little more than a trickle. like most of the largest rivers in asia, it originates in the tibetan plateau. a region also known as ages water tower.
12:14 pm
almost 2000000000 people in central asia, afghanistan, pakistan, and india depend on water that springs from here. scientists say this huge water reserve will likely soon run dry researchers from china and the u. s. conducted measurements in the mountainous region and analyzed satellite pictures of the tibetan plateau. much of the water here is stored as ice and snow when the glaciers disappear due to rising temperatures. so will the stream of melt water that feeds the rivers. predictions are bleak, around $230.00 giga tons of water could be lost. that's enough to fill over 90000000 olympic sized swimming pools. if c o 2 emissions are not radically and rapidly reduced, the researchers add that more alternative water supplies sources like wells and
12:15 pm
even pipelines may be necessary to meet the shortage in the not too distant future . but it's unclear if that will be enough to sustain the hundreds of millions of people who depend on the plateau is rivers. and that's it from me and the news seem go, go way up. next is business with critical, bob. god, office in a berlin. i switch on youth sch can that i work that tags and in the end they send me you are not locked up to you anymore. we will send you back or you.
