a variety of cars, so with this, so we'll be talking to the movers, shake of visionaries and made it when bonnie: the meaning of modern africa this is that for mag. oh d w no ah ah, this is dw news live from berlin. doctor is concerned for the help of britons. queen elizabeth buckingham palace says the 96 year old monarch is under medical supervision. the members of the royal family rushed to her side at her home in

scotland and crowds gather outside buckingham palace in london. ah hello em claire richardson, welcome to the show. we begin with concerns for the health of britons, queen elizabeth buckingham palace as b 90. 6 year old monarch is under medical supervision at balmoral her home in scotland. the statement says the queen is comfortable, all 4 of her children are with her, including the air to the throne. prince charles, the queen, celebrated her platinum jubilee marking 7 decades of her reign earlier this year, but has increasingly handed over duties to family members. the speaker of the british parliament interrupted a debate to express lawmakers concerns. i will say something about the announcement which has just been made about her majesty. i know i speak on behalf of the entire
7:02 pm
house. when i say that we send over the best wishes to her majesty the queen that she and the ro family are in our thoughts and prayers. at this moment, i'm going to take no more just to if there is anything else we should call him. thank you. so best wishes from parliament there. let's get more on this from dw alex for waiting with me in the studio. and from carl announcement reporting from london. carl, i'd like to start with you. it is unusual for buckingham palace to comment on the queen's health. the fact that we're hearing from the palace must mean there is quite a bit of concern. yeah, it really is important just to stress that this is quite unusual state been coming from the royal family. they don't give regular updates on the health of the queen or other family members. they don't give live commentary on how the queen is doing so to get this statement today, right around lunch time was i think a big shock for a lot of people here. and there is definitely a sense of concern around buckingham palace and all the way across the u. k.
7:03 pm
reaching up to scotland, where the queen is now we don't have any new details since that last update. and i think that's also definitely cause for concern amongst a lot of people here i've been speaking with londoners and 2 risks who have been showing up to the site today. and every time i speak with people i spoke with a couple from austria as well as from franklin asked us, do you have an update? do you have any more information? of course we wish we could tell them. but there's concern, of course, for the queen's health given that statement. the other thing that's interesting to note and is also concerning, is that we knew that the queen was not in the best of health. and mostly it's been described as mobility issues or discomfort, or the queen wasn't able to stand for a long time at an event. this is really the 1st time that we've heard those words coming directly from her doctors. i'm saying that there is cause for concern, and that's exactly what people here at buckingham palace are feeling today. and girl, she was meant to be there at buckingham palace where you're reporting from i instead
7:04 pm
she's at her home in scotland. why is that? yeah, that's right. and that's exactly the location where she ended up reading the new prime minister. those trusts as well as the outgoing prime minister boars. johnson again knows mobility issues playing a role, but we did see her on tuesday during those meetings. she was standing with the support of a walking cane. she was smiling, she seemed in good spirits and in relatively good health. so there was no sign there. all. however, the next day, the queen had a scheduled meeting with her closest advisors and that was meant to be a virtual meeting from her home in scotland and i was canceled. so there were some signs there that perhaps not everything was perfect with the queen's health. she has remained therein, and the last that we hear is the updates now from her doctor is amber, of course, are waiting to hear more about the queen, of course, should be here in london. she is not. and in fact, now her entire family,
7:05 pm
as russia was going to be by your side. and alex, i'd like to come back to you in the studio. and the kind of language that we're hearing is telling isn't at buckingham palace using phrases like medical supervision and cause for concern. what does that tell us about her health? that it is very serious as car has said, and the fact that buckingham palace to put out a statement, a tool is extremely highly unusual because they do not comment on the queen's health. apart from a to admit that she has had some mobility issues over the past few months. and that has been used as a reason why the queen has been and had been unable to attend various events that she would always in her 70 year reign attend. for example, the picture on the wall behind us is of the queen at the state opening of parliament, or that is an event that she will. she always presides over in the u. k, but she did not do it this year. prince charles did it. instead, she would always,
7:06 pm
for example, go to the remembrance day celebrations of the wrong words. but remembering those who died in the 1st and 2nd, well pause and other was as well. she would always lay of reef. again, she wasn't able to do that. and even at the great celebrations for her 70th birthday, her 70th year of it, sorry 70 years on the throne. she wasn't seen particularly often at that huge event either. so i think that's all very telling that things have been not been good for a while. but this, as i say, is the very 1st time that fucking policy issued something which is quite so serious concern, as you say, on medical supervision. and now we just wait, and it comes to ward the end of a week that has been very busy for the queen as carl mentioned, i'm sure, seeing off her 14th prime minister boris johnson in that transfer of power over to liz trust, i mean, what you make of helmet that might have contributed. yeah. and she obviously should
7:07 pm
have done that in buckingham palace again. that's what she's always done with her previous prime ministers. but she was in balmoral so i'm already alarm bells were ringing that she had stayed up there. that's normally her summer location and but that she'd stayed up there to say good bye to boris johnson, the 4 to her 14th prime minister and welcome live trust her 15th prime minister. all we got there was a photograph of her holding as a walking stick and a greeting liz trust, but i think many people thought she didn't look particularly well in the photograph . she looked very thin. there were certainly bruises, for example, bruise on her hand, which many were wondering is that old age or is that something more serious? so it was a very, a big week for her big week for britain actually for the whole of the u. k. and the, the queen obviously not able to be where she should have been, which was buckingham palace. so clearly a lot of concern on news of this is of course, traveling fast. people across the u. k. have been wishing her. well,
7:08 pm
i want to see if we can hear some of the public reaction. hey, alissa. ah, you all soon. i wish she recovers and i hope the family that they navigate through this difficult period together, united the find peace in whatever happens. she's in very good health and i just wish you and obeys in pain. you know, carrion's room. she's very and when she enjoys doing it she's, she's been the queen as long as i've been alive. she's been the queen as long as my parents have been alive. so she's really a very, very important part of the fabric. you know, it's going to be terrible and was very sad. i think she is a very special queen. i think everybody around the world knows her are even in israel and i wish for her health and hopefully she'll always be there. i hope she. well, she recovers right side really?
7:09 pm
my i think off the couldn't just for like spectrum it cuz she's been brought frail for awhile. but you know, i guess no one thought the day would come really. so hopefully it's not as bad as what it seems. but, you know, it seems like concerning with the royal family, you know, going to i think it's sad. i think she's probably dian. i think the fact all the family are going there is a sign. something is not good or worried public also some lovely. well wishes there. i'm carlo. i come back to you. we can see behind you people gathering their outside buckingham palace. have you had a chance to talk to people about what they think? yeah, big crowd of you know, we got here a few hours ago and it seemed like just around the time that london's offices were closing and people were leaving for the evening, the crowd just weld despite the rain earlier this crosbie been growing by the
7:10 pm
minute not just londoners, but also lot of to were as people from all over the world coming through had the chance to chat with a couple of people from france, which obviously, politically, it may not be best friends with england right now, but they were here to wish the queen well and, and they wanted to make sure that that she was doing okay. i spoke with another couple from, from austria as well. and actually just a few minutes ago, some flowers were laid at the foot of buckingham palace as well. of course we, we don't know how the queen's doing, but people are so concerned that they're already beginning to leave flowers for her . so the other thing to mention, of course, is at this news, immediately trickle through the whole country media here, tv, stations, radio stations went into their rolling coverage. and just to give you a sense of how big of a, sorry, this is internationally all along to my left here, you have hundreds of camera crews. that's not an exaggeration from multiple different countries. you hear so many different languages being spoken here right now. the queen, of course, is, is the queen of england,
7:11 pm
but she means so much more to so many more people around the world. and everyone's waiting for bated breath and hoping that her condition will improve. you just wanna let our viewers know we were just looking at live, our footage of buckingham palace at aerial shot just barry could see people gathering. i'm alex, coming back to you in the studio. we've mentioned that family are rushing to be be by queen elizabeth's side. can you tell us who is there? yes. well, we know that on a plane arrived at aberdeen at port and on that plane, and we had to and prince william had the queen's grandson, an a son, prince andrew, another her other son, prince edward, and his wife and sophie the duchess of wealth. thanks. they have already arrived. in fact, we had, there was a photo where we saw prince william driving them to the 2 bar moros. they have, they have now arrived. prince charles was already there along with his sister princess and said the queen has 4 children. they are all there. we also know that
7:12 pm
our prince hurry, is on chew to arrive at bar moral as well. that is prince william's son, the queen's other grandson. she had several, but that is prince william's son, prince william's brother. you may remember that there was a big falling out between prince harry and his wife megan and the rest of the royal family. and that was over many tensions with the royal family. and they stepped back from all of their duties and they now live in california. these are pictures actually of prince harry and his wife megan in dusseldorf in germany this week because they have been in a tour of europe, of the u. k. and of germany. that's why they happened to be in the u. k. at the moment of but it's understood that megan, who has probably we, i think it's fair to say cause a lot of the friction within the royal family. the son you haven't seen i to why is not on her way to buy more aware. as prince harry is,
7:13 pm
but of course prince william's wife kate has not gone either. so i guess that balance is it out from that point of view, but at least it will reduce the tension any tension that there could be uh, that is very serious and difficult time for the roll family. alex, thank you so much for that. i'm carl. i want to come back to you with a queen, elizabeth. she's been a symbol of stability through 15 prime ministers. so many changes. now, though, united kingdom is facing a number of very serious challenges, isn't it? yes, absolutely. is absolutely amazing when you just think back at the all the history, all the prime ministers, various wars and conflicts and economic crises that the queen has been here for that she's witness. and that she's helped a guide the country through. and now is certainly one of those turbulent times again, of course, as a child, she help sir nation guide guide the nation through world war 2. now, a relative piece, but of course the of the conflict in ukraine with russia and england,
7:14 pm
a sing plenty of conflict as well. internally, a big political crisis, a new prime minister. this trusts we're seeing energy bills, skyrocketing record inflation hitting into the double digits. going all the way to the any just the national health care system has year long back logs for some treatment. so england and the united kingdom are certainly at a, a difficult points right now. and the clean is always seemed to be that source of stability, that rock, that woman who really has always been there. she's been queen for 70 years, the longest, raining monarch in the country's history, one of the longest reigning monarchs in the entire world history. and there are people, if you think about it, who if you have to be, i believe in your seventy's to remember a time before queen elizabeth, the 2nd was the monarch here. so the country certainly entering into uncharted territory and one journalist days in england, even saying that the country may be struggling to find its sense of self if the
7:15 pm
time and when the time comes. that queen elizabeth the 2nd does leave her post. karl now's men reporting for us in london and alex forest whiting. here with me in the studio. i wanna thank you both so much for those of kate's at this time, we really appreciate your reporting and analysis. gonna have to leave it there for now that you're news update at this hour station for d of you news asia coming up with a benefit. when i'm clare richardson in berlin, i'll be back with more news headlines at the top of our 3 every day for us and for our planet. global ideas is on its way to bring you more conservation.
