the 3rd will have some very big shoes to fill. do brooklyn's thank he's up to the task. it's a very good question. i mean, he has got huge shoes to fill. the queen was so incredibly popular and it's, it's fair to say the king charles his popularity has never reached his mother's. and it has certainly um, apt and weighed over the years and we talked about it before. but particularly over his relationship with his previous wife, diana, he lost huge amount of popularity. and indeed, i could think i would say credibility. so he's had to build it up over the past decades, really. and i think he is a much more popular now certainly than he was then in the 19 ninety's. but he knows he's got a lot to do. he has always been known as a bit of an activist prince, particularly over issues of a lot such as we heard there about the environment and um, and saving the planet. and so i imagined that he will continue on, you know,

with that certainly a steering him in a, in a, in that direction. but he won't be able to be so vocal because the british monarch is not allowed really to have views. and that he not political views, and sometimes he has been accused of saying a little bit too much. but i think we will see that and we will see him certainly. or we've already seen him streamlining the monarchy itself and making sure that there aren't too many people in the front line and on camera. so i'm sure we will see more of that as he tries, as much as possible to protect the monarchy for the generations ahead. charles is character of course will be, will be tested, but he will also be tested to the degree that he is able to continue to preserve the monarchy, which has been under strain for decades. that must be served or the royal family does have its critics urban, a numerous scandals along the way. charles is brother andrew and the events surrounding harry and megan, for example. how much of a challenge will it be for charles to preserve the mark?
8:21 am
i think it is a huge challenge for him. i don't think anything is going to change in the near future. i think that he has been very clever in positioning his son, prince william, and prince william's wife kate. we see so much more of them. and we see prince william taking on more duties. he of course, is the next in line behind at king charles. so he's done very well there. but i think as you say, other issues such as prince harry and his own brother will make it difficult for him going forward. alex, thanks so much. alex forest whiting from the w. now, in those 7 decades on the throne as britain, head of state, queen elizabeth 2nd met countless world leaders, now tributes are pouring in from across the globe, lowering the flag in honor of queen elizabeth a mark of respect from president biden by the opportunity to meet her before she passed in, susan, incredibly gracious and decent woman, the thoughts and prayers,

for the reactions across europe. my colleague jack parrot joins me now from brussels. jack, how or european leaders responding to the queen's death? good morning. well, as you can see behind me, the institutions of the european union flying their flags at half mast today to mount the passing of queen elizabeth. the 2nd we heard from the european commission president us live on the lion. she called the queen, a beacon of continuity, an anchor of stability in the hardest times. also saying that she herself personally took inspiration from the queen throughout her own life. the you council president shaw michelle called the queen, a remarkable woman who shouldered an immense responsibility. i think it's fair to say is nina was just saying that the queen is seen as this constancy in the united kingdom. the relationship between london and the other european capitals has been politically wrought in the last decade, specifically because of brakes. it. but the queen has always been

a symbol of the country all over the world. and here in europe, it was interesting what nina was saying, that sort of an adopted queen many, many people all over the world feel the queen is, is their queen and they feel some ownership over her presence the, the european union institutions as i say of. but that lives at half mast and whole world is sort of watching now as, as britain moons it's, it's, it's lost, lost monarch, has just died. the british monarchy is perhaps best known world wide, but there are still other european royal families. briefly, jack, how are they reacting to the queens passing? yeah. where i am in belgium, the king felipe, her treated to say that she was an extraordinary extraordinary personality. and that he will have fond memories with her. the ducks. royals tweeted to say they feel a strong bond with the u. k. and they share in the countries sorrows. it's quite interesting when this,
