11:15 am
of the beginning of a large ceremonial day to day, we'll expect of course, king charles to be entering saint james's palace where he will then take an oath and some declarations as well of loyalty at that point, that's kind of window the fun begins. of course, if you think back about this ceremony, it's an ancient ceremony dates back hundreds of years before television, before smartphones with floor social media. this would have been the way that many people just as we see today, gathered outside would have heard that there was a new monarch or that the old monarch might have passed away. we saw more of that history earlier on when the queen passed, when we saw just a simple notice pin to the gates of the palace. this continues in that old tradition. there'll be a proclamation from the balcony of saint james's palace. we expect trumpet fanfare . all sorts of ancient pomp and circumstance, and that will be when the king is officially proclaimed for the 1st time to the
11:16 am
public. that will happen in approximately 30 minutes to an hour after that there'll be proclamations across the city of london stretching in the older areas. the old city gates into charing cross up proclamations taking place there. and then in fact, populations for the rest of the weekend through sunday, across the entire country as well. we know that the flags which have been lowered to half mast out of respects for queen elizabeth will be raised. and that there will be all sorts of different ceremonies including canon salutes as well. dick carl, and ask you the question that i just put to hannah, which is a, a bit of a, a tricky one. what do people expect from their new king who is just taking on this role? well, you can tell by how many people have been gathered outside of these official bands that have been taking place in london. the many people are anticipating and wondering what they can expect from the new king. of course,
11:17 am
he doesn't have the luxury of taking over a young age. he's 73 years old. he's preparing has been preparing for this moment, almost his entire life. he was just 3 years old when queen elizabeth took the throne, no one in fact is prepared longer in the history of the british monarchy. we do know, of course, because he has been in the public spotlight for a long time. we know a bit about him as a person. we know a bit about him. in fact, in terms of his political views, that something that was not the case with queen elizabeth. she was not very publicly political, but that's something to keep an eye on as well. okay, i would just like to continue that conversation with with hannah here in the studio about king charles the 3rd and john his reaper expecting him, i think, to appear on the pictures that we're seeing on his political ideas. we're queer, any, any sort of reason environmental as what else we know about his background in that long, long waiting time to become king. you are. he's been, he's been really quite
11:18 am
a proactive prince in waiting. um, you know, he, everybody knows that he's very pro organic farming. everybody knows that he's kind of got traditional ideas about to modern architecture and a he has some slightly out their views or so about medicine and or homeopathic medicine. that kind of thing. what's been interesting is, is not only that he's been not open with some of his views, but actually he was very active and wrote letters. he saw tony blair in the pictures earlier on to tony blair and to some of his ministers when they were in government. prince charles was writing letters to them, asking them to change policy on matters on matters that he cared about. a took a 10 year fight for some of the media to get those letters released. and what for a little cash up, those letters was released. the rest with them put under very much lock and key. so we don't know how much influence he's been trying to take over the day to day governing of the country while he was prince of wales in an interview
11:19 am
a couple of years ago he at she admitted yet no, actually when i am king, i'm gonna have to stop that because it's unconstitutional and said that there is this kind of separation of royalty and, and politicians that is supposed to be relatively strict. that of course has always been relatively fluid. i mean, we also know from reporting over the last few years that there were various different interventions from the royal house while the queen was still in charge and also to the families benefits on regulations that wouldn't necessarily apply them to her land. so to some of the places that she owned. so this, this barrier between royal interest and an elected political activity has never been complete. i think it would be naive to think that it would be. but i think prince king charles now really has to show that he stopped being
11:20 am
interventionist. so i think his, his views are very well known party, politically. he's been very quiet, which is, you know, fairly smart thing to do if you're supposed to be uniting the nation. yeah. but yeah, i think he's gonna have to turn that right down now. and are you able to comment just on the pictures of us now we're looking for prime ministers. we seem to be taught is really wide shot. yeah, yeah. they're all, they're all toward tour at each other in parliament for years. and now they're chatting away. there is a wired shot though of a lot like i've thrown a big red chair. i guess the king will sit in the big row chair. i think that's what he's used to doing this with house or wait for her. yeah, he's sure he's to, to come in and make a statement about his mother and he's going to sign. i think also proclamation. yes, i'm and taken oath about protecting the church of scotland for you know, for archaic reasons that slightly different from the church of england and they're all these things that needs to be ironed out. but yeah,
11:21 am
there's some very interesting conversations going on there. john made you can see chatting with somebody out a shot to he's a may talking earlier, we saw the former labor prime minister, tony blair chatting to the current ahead of labor here stammer. he's the head of the opposition. i'd love to be listening into that conversation. yeah, yeah, it would be very interesting to, to the other spy and all these people listen to what they were saying. i'm just going to lupin carl last, ben again, if i can, who's standing by outside the building where all of these people are gather? what's your situation there now? it looks like most of the people have cleared away or that is earth or crowd out of out of you. well, what you can see, nick is the enormous crowd just behind our camera, and it stretches all the way down the block. there are the security barricades erected here. the crowd has been growing by the minute into the thousands. now every one here waiting to witness history. and of course this is such a rare moment. it's worth emphasizing that again. this is the 1st time that many
11:22 am
people, most people in the nation have seen anything like this. this is the 1st time that it's been televised and a ceremony such as this has not happened for some 70 years, many people gathering, even though they can't see what's going on inside directly. they want to be here. just to see a witness, a bit of history. we've seen a couple of cars passed by now. those 2 black range rovers went past and a rolls royce limousine winds passed to my right as well. so we are expecting that one of those vehicles may contain inside the new king making his way to the accession ceremony. we haven't yet seen him on camera yet, but everyone watching as well on their smartphones. the, the local media is covering that live and many people wanting to witness history today. and i can, well imagine i'm just curious. i'm gonna come back to hand a clever here in the studio, seeing all those former prime ministers who were at each other's throats for 4
11:23 am
years. i am wondering if we're not just going to interrupt myself. we seem to be a, well, that's the current british prime minister. this trust isn't not just wantin yet. and others can go ahead. some unfortunate people from the church of england coming and it looks like the king of the coming in any man moment. i'm sitting in this, the queen consulted prince william and that he is okay at for sneeze. gonna either sign something and then speak all the other way around business. so part to as the council, your majesty to make your declaration by laws, ladies and gentlemen, it is my most sorrowful duty to renounce to you the death of my beloved mother, the queen. i know how deeply you the entire nation,
11:24 am
and i think i may say the whole world sympathize with me. in the irreparable loss, we've all suffered. it is the greatest consolation to me to know of the sympathy expressed by so many to my sister and brothers. and that such overwhelming affection and support should be extended to our whole family in our loss. to all of us as a family, as to this kingdom and the wide, a family of nations, of which it is a part. my mother gave an example of lifelong love, and of selfless service. my mother's reign was unequalled in its duration. it's dedication and his devotion, even as we grieve,
11:25 am
we give thanks to now passed to me. in taking up these responsibilities, i shall strive to follow the inspiring example. i have been set in upholding constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony, and prosperity of the peoples of these islands and of the common rose realms and territories throughout the world. in this purpose, i know that i should be upheld by the affection and loyalty of the peoples whose sovereign i have been called upon to be. and that in the discharge of these juices, i will be guided by the counsel of their elected palos. in all this, i am profoundly encouraged by the constant support of my beloved wife.
11:26 am
i take this opportunity to confirm my willingness and intention to continue the tradition of surrendering the hereditary revenues. encoding the crown of state to my government for the benefit of all in return for the sovereign grant, which supports my official duties as head of state and head of the nation. and in carrying out the heavy task that has been laid upon me. and to which i now dedicate what remains to me of my life. i pray for the guidance and help almighty god i have with humble duty to crave your majesty's permission for the publication of your gracious speech. the
11:27 am
prude. concerning the security of the church of scotland. i understand that the law requires that i should add to my accession to the crown take and subscribe the oath relating to the security of the church of scotland. i am ready to do so. at this 1st opportunity. i chose the said by the grace of god of the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland and my other realms and territories. king, defender of the faith do faithfully promise and swear that i shall in viola, blue, maintain and preserve the settlement of the true protestant religion. as established by the laws made in scotland in prosecution of the claim of rights,
11:28 am
and particularly by an act in to jude an act for securing the protestant religion and presbyterian church government. and by the acts passed in the parliament of both kingdoms for union of the 2 kingdoms, together with the government worship discipline rights and privileges of the church of scotland. so help me, god. i now invite your majesty to subscribe those copies of the instrument confirming the ice has been taken. if you're just tuning and you're watching live pictures of king charles the 3rd
11:29 am
being proclaimed king an accession council 1st in 70 years. and i'm in the studio with hannah clever, who has been following the events with me since the began hannah, what, what did you make of what we came charles, the 3rd just said yeah we've, we've just seen a piece of history as in making history now, but also, history, as you would learn about in your history books. a school for prince charles is here in front of a collective body of political establishment from all different kinds. within the u . k, he had to announce the death of his mother made a short speech. i liked the witnesses to his majesty's oath, to sign both copies of the instrument. he made a short speech about his mother and about what he wanted to do. he confirmed that he would serve as king. he confirmed a deal that is ancient about surrendering hereditary revenues in return for
11:30 am
sovereign cramp as the funding of the monarchy. you now see, you did see prince william, his oldest son, prince of wales, signing this proclamation. his wife chose his wife. camilla will also, i believe, sign it, and this is really just to confirm what happened couple of days ago at the moment elizabeth died, charles became king, and this is now the beginning of the ancient process of informing everybody in the days before newspapers, smart phones, or twitter, this is the, this is how it would be started this, the official deal making between the crown and the people represented there by a whole lot of politicians are also.
