they have not been in government for the last few years and looking at how much the satisfaction there is in italy with a lot of the parties that have been in government until now. she has always been in opposition. she has seen as someone who can bring change and some a new face that people can trust to maybe being bring forward the reforms and the change that people really want. and on the other hand, ellie is traditionally quite a conservative country, and judge maloney has made a point, even though her party has a neo fascist and post fascist roots to make herself into a moderate conservative someone that even non radical vote or voters can support in the elections at that, that seems to be paying off within the italian electorate. you keep hearing this is a crucial election, and yet observers are predicting low voter turnout. some italians are even expected to actively boycott the election. why is that? yet polls have shown that this could be the election with the highest number of

people abstaining from voting since world war 2. now we have seen officials results come out now at 12 local tanks for about an hour ago. and it looks like the voting or the number of voters is in line with the last election. so there could be surprises. but in general, there is a strong dissatisfaction with the political parties and with the political system in italy. but i spoke to some voters earlier outside of paulding station and asked them what they thought about the situation. let's hear what they had to say by beginning we totally that are this. i don't like what the right plans to do if they win. but most importantly, i don't think they're fit to government offering it either chris at point and that the good the most of our sir, this is a i would like maloney to prove that she is up for the challenge. said about that if you were living in difficult times like this is probably the hardest possible time for her to start with the rut. surprises are always welcome lisa

prism, manuel, center. my been so much of parties. i think most italians are very aware that whoever they choose to be in government among won't really change anything on. i could come here and submit to the courses for the emily, joy, and i hope young people will see an improvement. this is the point sam about. we've managed more or less, but now it's really hard for our youth. i hope things change for the better. also a man you truly, you surely know this vote is being watch with concern in brussels. what have the candidate, sir? been saying about italy's relationship with the e. u and what would a for right, populous victory mean for europe? well, who concerns the you specifically is judge maloney and her coalition. and she who was formerly a euro skeptic, has positioned herself as being supportive and closer to the because she knows that

without the use support is going to be hard for her to govern in a sensible way. but there are still concerns among the institutions and the leaders within the you and neighboring countries. and one of the fears is that italy will change its vans towards the you and issues that are, are important within the union. for example, if we look at victor bond, the leader in hungary who has been criticized and by the you and you member states for promoting a liberal values that go against the you values. there is a fear that italy will become a country that supports hungary and that also maybe goes along the same liberal path. is that country that is our corresponding julius, our deli, in ro many thanks, is always julia a change of pace now, and i mean that quite literally as well as figuratively, a sports and a new world record. start to the marathon season. here in berlin. elliot control

gay of kenya has broken his own record at the berlin marathon control. gay broke the world's best time by 30 seconds running the last 15 kilometers, all by himself. he set the previous record in 2018 on this same course. he's now 115 of his 17 career marathons including 2 olympic gold medals and 10 major titles . kyle mckinnon of d. w. sports is with me now to talk about the world record and kyle, have to tell you, i'm a huge athletics fan. and so i know that i often hear about world records, but very rarely in the marathon. indeed, it's not the glamor sport that the 100 meters is, for example. but if you've run a 5 k, a 10 k, a half marathon a marathon, you know that this is a pretty significant moment and you know, what kind of piece is required to make this happen to, to run as fast as he does as l. you'd control gate does and kilometer after
1:13 pm
kilometer, after kilometer miles mile, it is completely crazy. he has pace setters, actually guys who are basically given a job going out there and, and pushing him pushing and pushing him. but those guys fall off at 2025 k. and then the guys that were trying to finish the race and beat him. they can't, they give way. they gave way, shortly after that $25.00 k, because he picked up the pace there and went faster and started and went faster and faster and was looking frankly, he's looking to break a 2 hour world record to our mark, which he's done before on a certain kind of track with pace setters in the like, which wasn't regarded as an official time, but he wants to do that in a real race. and that may happen sometime, maybe in berlin because it's a fast track. it's a fast pace. it's flat here, and that's why $45000.00 people for one thing, love to come here and run it. 157 countries represented. this is a place to set records. extraordinary

a little perspective. your help good is joe gay. he is clearly the best ever. no question about it. he's 115 of 17 marathons. now that he's entered, he's 12 gold medals. he's the guy people are looking for to represent their sportswear company for one thing. and he's also got his own line of shoes that have propelled him are tough to run and actually the 1st time. but they helped propel him a little bit and give him a little bit of an edge. but other other runners have taken on to the shoes as well . anyway, he's certainly the best and will long live. he's 37 years old, but it continuing to break records and will certainly undoubtedly break it again. shoes are not, this man certainly liked running in berlin. he took the place to do it. kyle mckinnon of dw sports many thanks. and that's our sports round up. a reminder of the top new story this, our italians have begun caching their ballots in a vote that's expected to bring seismic change. the for right candidate george maloney is forecast to top the pole and become italy's most bite. wings leader.
