8:32 am
i talked to scott, i'm friends dennis, and i'm carly and octoberfest in front of one of the oldest pants of the festival called the sultan hum. my job today is to be a waiter and i've seen some people carry 11 leading chunks of beer. not only that, i have to carry a whole plethora of food. i'm pretty nervous. so let's see. here we go. oh, hello. i'm learning from a real pro, alexander christian has been awaiting the children, hamilton followed attendees. his day job is in advertising, but he's taken time off the his really good oktoberfest, a prayer for you. so here we go. and my i do, i have the right clothes on. by the way, i know this is not the right address. let me help you out with this one. great.
8:33 am
okay, and then i'll just put it on there. i think the 10 seats is staggering. 9000 people and we're serving 70 of them. but i 1st have to practice with most of water. beards too costly to waste on beginnings. your put your hand inside. this one will be free. i got to press off this r 6 there. so it's really urgent. the you can to the 777 and go make sense when something looks simple enough. and you do, we do have, you're a guy, you only 10. so you can go by 5, you have to take another 5, put them out, prepare the other half. when i get so stick to 5 months water. okay. okay. build some on me. so that's realty, and i actually filled out what happened?
8:34 am
yeah. you fair that you will lose your money. actually my money comes out of my paycheck. all the be right? yes. you got the paycheck at birth, then get the money back by the time the bar, sean exchanges these green chips, severe. he has hundreds of them in the house, each with one later, this year, the price of 13 years and $0.60. now the left me on my arm for my own free will to try and deliver it to the table. i'm pretty nervous. i'm taking a little bit. let's see how i go. okay, where are we going to? why don't i think this is a very heavy come with me. who can each mug? why $2.00 kilos. it's not easy carrying for one and then come to me now. nothing is okay. you get 40 back. ok. thank you. sorry, i'm know about some of the jobs. okay,
8:35 am
so tell me exactly how you're owning the money made from to pot. we get the percentage florida employer and we get the tip from the guess. the more happy to get the bit better. the tip earning whether is drinking, they have to be food and there is a lot of it being served around the clock here at my next job, the serving gross chicken, a real heated applied to that right? oh, unfortunately, he said not to me. i love chicken though. i mentioned his task would be a bit easier with the most important thing is that the chicken arrived at the table in one piece. alexander christian reminds me on the weight, and i did it with all without food. the main thing he is bid on average visit is question. almost 7000000. lead is during october, 5th,
8:36 am
and yours truly. it's delivering 10 of those. it's time for my big test. i be able to carry all the beers and make mistakes. i'm pretty sure about. well then 2 hands, 10, b is $22.00 kilos. let's go. ah, a heavy heavy mission accomplished. we have no idea how you do that. no idea. i've, i've met with how much money can you make as a waiter at october 1st? nobody would tell me, but believe me, it would have to be a hefty sum to me to do this again. what a day. i think i've done my due diligence in being awaited said i, i feel like i've accomplished my challenge of carrying 11,
8:37 am
they to jugs of beer. but why would it be a waiter? a server next year. it octoberfest? probably not. i'm gonna go get a bit ah, spending a night outdoors, under starry skies. sounds very roam, at least if it's not raining and there are no wild animals running about now. i must admit that i personally would choose a comfortable hotel over camping, but british travel writer, luke waterson, has discovered some original and even luxurious places to sleep with a view of the sky. and even i could imagine spending the night in some of them. lou, yes, it is possible to go camping deep in the wilderness and still not have to do with that creature comforts. one place to do it. is this former camping ground in
8:38 am
northern ireland? wow. amazing. what a beard, a beautiful bed. and this incredible nature right on the dawson puff. camping has changed. it used to be just a failed, a basic place to pitch a tent and a poor to lou, a place to get water a little more. now obviously it's so much more than that. clamping is a term for camping with a touch of glamour. it's become very popular. whether it's a lodge in the mountains, a tiny house in the woods, or a micro lodge on the beach. there are many unusual places to sleep under the stars . luc waterson of england has checked out a lot of them. criss crossing europe and bedding down in the open air. he's tested luxury outdoor resorts, as well as the most beautiful spots to camp in the wild. you can see here water fascinates me about her camping in the middle of her wild nature.
8:39 am
just look at this view. i've got a lake to myself. i've got my own special panorama that no one else is going to have and more and more people want to have it across europe. the figures for overnight stays in camp grounds at climbing, even before the corona pandemic. and registrations of new cap events have nearly tripled in germany since 2013. but nature lovers don't always have to make do with a no frills tent. there are quirky possibilities to cocoon, like beach chair here on germany's coast. oh, for the feelers dangling over an abyss in austria. a bit cozier is a night and a decommissioned cable car in the swiss alps. luth woodson and co author kerry walk review over 200 such accommodations in a book for the lonely planet travel guides. what we were looking for was some of those more creative, back to nature experiences,
8:40 am
ones that embrace different aspects of the outdoors, but aren't necessarily just campsites. it could be anything from shepherds hots to a 19 fifties fire truck in aberdeen sheer to a tree house. one of europe's most luxurious accommodations under the open sky is the fin lock forest hideaway close to the shores of loc earn. northern island. second largest lake is a cluster of glass bubble domes. gillian bare created them together with her brother on their parents, former camp ground that the little domes are so special and because of where they set and completely immersed within the nature of the forest. and there's complete connection between the gas and the inside. the 1st thing they say when they wake up in the morning is the sky, the trees it's around them. and here the birds am and not complete immersion is, is just so unique tech or any style of hotel room,
8:41 am
just as immersed in the forest is the spot. luke morrison emphasizes the health aspect of spending time in nature. and there is scientific proof for it. in 2017 research has got 5 urbanized to spend some time in sweden's forests. after just 3 days, they measured lowest stress hormone and blood pressure levels. now, guests can stay in the hot originally built, especially for the experiment. ah, what you focus on. a more basic thing, simple pleasures, just looking at the trees around you, looking at the looking at the birds listening to the wildlife, hearing the sounds of nature, and as a result of doing this, you're, you are relaxing in a way that you never thought possible before. ah, that's been law relaxation has its price studying at the equivalent of around $350.00 euros
8:42 am
a night. a high end back to nature experience. i love while camping. i think the idea of just scanning the landscape, looking for the place where moors meet forest meet river and choosing your spot to just pitch a tent. that for me is absolute, a authentic genuine, wild experience. but having said that, 3 days in the pouring rain, and i'm not going to say no to something like this. now, one way to immerse yourself in nature is to simply dive into a lake. but a night on the starry skies in a bubble dime would be quite a bit cozier noon. well, glancing is one way to go when it comes to travel. and another popular option is driving in a camper van. now this is the dream of many tourists who come to europe, including 2 american u tubers who've taken on
8:43 am
a special challenge. they are making their way through europe in an electric band. now last week they discovered germany and austria. and now their adventure continues on to italy. ah hey everybody, eric and allison here once again, our electric campion road trip is continuing now ran through italy. our plan today is the happened to van and had further south to get out of the crowds, off the beaten path. but 1st we had to make a very special stop here in the city of murano. marano sits in the italian province of south t role. here in italy, it's nestled in this valley between these huge mountains that surround it. there's tons to do in the area, hiking to visiting wineries or you can do like us and head down to the old town, which is filled with all of these amazing structures spanning the century. it's
8:44 am
absolutely beautiful. yeah, it really is not a bad way to spend a day here in italy and you can check out some of the amazing castles in the area like this troutman door of castle, which is known for its sprawling gardens in beautiful panoramic views. yeah, coming up here just for the views alone. it's totally worth it. you can see all the mountains in the area. you can see all the surrounding countryside and the gardens are incredible. they really do cover such a huge area to have hedge maze is over there. there are tons of beautiful, vibrant flowers all over the place and a bunch of really cool look out points. you can get an even higher view of the area . plus, there is an easy charging station in the parking lot here at the castle, so well were exploring to beautiful gardens. are cars getting all charged up? murano is also known for having some absolutely delicious cuisine. so we're gonna straw around gardens a little bit more. and then i'm meeting with for lunch, we came to a restaurant called portia brown, which is right here in the old part of the town. the 1st step we have this is
8:45 am
a sampling of all the local needs and a view of their cheeses. we're what we're really excited for is this spect noodle. so these are bacon dumplings out of habit. i wrote for nothing but i read that it's actually very light dumpling should cut on their own with a fork and using a knife is rude. i don't know if that's still true nowadays, but i got a beer here. oh yes, we got a local beer and a local one to try. i. alright, but now we're going to head back to our trustee. can prevent it wrote a little update on the charging situation. so we told you guys we were charging while we were at the castle. unfortunately, we did it something wrong or we didn't have
8:46 am
a card, right. and we did not really charge at all. you know, i have no idea where i am, i'm pretty sure the one way street. i am going the absolute wrong way that we had to go to a couple more spots. and sadly the pumps were not working. but i think this one is going to be our lucky pump. you get the same when we use yesterday. so we're hopeful we're in luck. where officially charging that's one thing we learned about this electric vehicle is that you really can't trust the range estimation. that again, gone down by about a little over a 100 kilometer charge. while we've only driven about kilometers. so it's going down about double as fast as we are traveling. fortunately, there are likely going to be bad storm tonight and tomorrow inside into an air b me up in the hills so that we can see nice drives and we don't have to worry about charging for a couple days. all right, fingers crossed that our charge last long enough to get to our destination.
8:47 am
maybe you guys with a little bit charge to spare. we are the tippy top of this mountain. we have arrived at our italian chalet. we told you guys were going to try to charge our vehicle here. so this is what we had to do because no outside outlets. we got to plug up here. gotta go enough into this is actually where we're saying. so that is just plugged in right here to that outlet. and it goes right on down to the car. how long does the say the charge um 14 hours 14 hours. that's not so bad and we're super low. we have power blue we arrived and our amazing villa epic views all around of all the surrounding countryside. the fog certain role in the rain, rain 30 but i think that's r q to wrap things up. so we're going to leave you guys here,
8:48 am
and we hope that you'll tune for the next leg of the elect camper van journey. we're going to be moving even further south into italy. next. i and italy, of course, is known for its great ice cream and who doesn't love good ice cream? well, pretty much in any season too. well, you often have to eat it fast so that it doesn't melt, but that however is not a problem in is temple when you eat a special turkish ice cream called mar rush. now, if you order a cone, it helps to have a little patience. and it's done book grabbing an ice cream cone can be an adventure even a little show to rush ice cream is so thick and rubbery, the vendors can surprise their customers with all kinds of tricks and make them laugh. and it makes buying ice cream and event an event that can take a while. i think it's like, i mean,
8:49 am
i think that i actually saw online and i went to trade show is impressive. and i think he's very good though. i hope things like this will be around for a long time. sounds like this can only be performed with my rash. ice cream more, don't warmer, special centuries old. i think resin and okay. flour mix it nearly as thick as gum, and it shows that it melts very slowly. this order we put on a little show here, the bowl. we scoop out generous portions and anyone who manages to catch the cone gets the ice cream for free and leave it on little bit longer than i would do. so i knew i belonged to me. we put the ice cream on the cone, wrap it in paper and give it to the customer. i do hear you are enjoy with plenty of you in the last trick. come out of your google chrome fell off. it's in this to make this kind of ice cream,
8:50 am
goats and cows milk up boiled for several hours to achieve the right thickness ban, sugar is added and select a traditional turkish ingredient made from ground up her full. okay. cuba that makes the ice cream even sticky. napoleon, nothing about the recipe for this ice cream has changed over time. i think he began this thought is right now, of course in the consumption of it has increased the large 3 chin a bit of the so today a little we use machines to make it a doll that's much faster. see, i know from the, it's, you know, to lamar, the ingredients have remained just the same material. i know the mixture is stirred and cooled for 10 to 12 hours. the consistency is nice and creamy them perfectly to peel the temperatures. very good to just the way marsh ice cream should be. the ice cream is flavored with pistachios, almonds,
8:51 am
or one. so the customer has a range to choose from. extends to storing it at minus 40 degrees celsius of us. we feed the ice cream until it reaches the right consistency, and we can portion it more easily than with. so as you can see where we work it until it's completely elastic sooner or later, the customers always get their cones, unskilled to some of them sooner. obviously with this and that again, because a visit to us is almost like a funny movie scene here with the minute to people have a good time here and leave with a smile. during the news on my rush ottoman ice cream and assemble, took everything off with a sprinkler fund, and of course,
8:52 am
it tastes good. tim rush, since i've been living in germany, i like my surroundings to be neat and tidy, even having a mess like this, lying around on this table makes me somewhat nervous, so i'll just put it in order to quickly before we continue. all right, well that'll have to do for now. well, the cliche about germans is that they love their order. they even have a lot of words and saying which include ordinal oak, my british carlie rachel stuart, explored some examples. pardon the last sign? that must be order ordering, believe, order house of life out of everything in order to put in order. you are heavy in order or no order puts a lot in the german language. so other germans really as orderlies, that kind of phrase suggest you to show money in some areas of life because without
8:53 am
order chaos would in golf, you indulge in germany. yes. it's not always. yeah. because that's how it has to be worked with that order. the form on order is structure and without the structure a society would work and it wouldn't work. even chaos has structure is in and for down and have always been taught to be orderly. let's take a peek into a german home for some orderly cleave. when you think of orderly, minimalistic homes, maybe you think of japan or scandinavia, but you know, the popular swedish home furnishings company, the one with all that particularly order the storage solutions. well, most of its products are sold in which country something that struck me when i moved here is the practically every german household seems to have a variation on this furniture items that way even collector can be orderly. an important point of order in the home is rubbish. germans take transportation very
8:54 am
seriously. you should separate paper, flatbed, organic waste of the healthways garden way, round bluff green glass white glove bottles with deposits. electric waist. oh, and battery order is particularly important for people who live in a shed building a clotted hallway, messy laundry room, or a battery cough a show 5 ways to make enemies to the neighbors. the building house order rules will often stipulate which part of the staff you're responsible for cleaning, who puts the bins out and who's responsible for keeping the patient outside or clearing this way, the ins and south west germany, even him up with the cova or sweeping weak essentially a cleaning rotor you might find that cavil assign appears outside your door if at night. just a friendly reminder and then as noise, you've got to keep it down after about 10 p. m and all day on sundays and bank holidays. each local government has a department dedicated to order the ordinance, amd, or office of public order among it by thus duties is noise control. so they're likely
8:55 am
to be the wifi. so now you're breaking the noise rules and your neighbors have had enough. of course, not all germans of such big fans of order. and there are times when the germans seem to flaunt the orderly reputation on mat. take me as e, for example, when the st, letting us fire weapon order would apart and there are regard for health and safety . then as the pull to ob and a tradition of smashing crockery to bring luck to a soon to be married. couple off course carnival season when the supposedly straight laced germans put on crazy costumes and make a lot of mass in the street. but even then they can't quite shake their deep rooted orderliness. because the last float in any carnival parade is sure to be the rubbish truck. with an we're that it's time to wrap up the show in an orderly fashion and be sure to check out our website for this week draw and a chance at receiving a some d. w goodies. and of course, please follow us on social media as always thanks for tuning in and we will see you
