political correspondent, julia deli, what she made of german foreign minister about books species, their instant secular, definitely ukraine and as it's expected, it was the main topic of discussion at this g 7. but it has been the main topic of discussion at the g 7 this whole years and almost years since the war started. and that has coincided with the german presidency of the g 7. and alina babel can make that clear, also in her statements now to the press. the g 7 has taken on almost a new role. it was born a decades ago, as a forum for financial decisions from the biggest economies and biggest democratic economies in the world. and now that is, it is, has almost turned into a, an executive forum for coordinations on ukraine. and the various summits that have occurred during this year have all mostly been focused on ukraine. this one was the 1st one where other topics had a bit more room to be discussed,
6:05 pm
but certainly it was made clear that the g 7 countries want to continue to support ukraine as long as it takes that is something that we've heard numerous times, but has clear, been made clear again and that especially looking at the upcoming winter, the difficult winter ahead. the g 7 countries want to continue to coordinate and continue to supply a supports not only militarily or in terms of financial aid, but also practically things that can help you creamy and stay warm and have lights on from generators. the heater is to tense and that is something very concrete and that the g 7 wants to continue to work on. well, here are so more of today's top stories. pakistan's, former prime minister iran con, says he was aware of a plot to kill him a day before they're going to talk on his protest. march hahn is currently recovering in a hospital a day after being shot and wounded in the leg. his supporters say the attack was an

zalinski says russian strikes have left some 4 and a half 1000000 people with our power across the country. zalinski accuses moscow of energy, terrorism for escalating attacks on ukraine's power grid as winter looms. similar attacks on infrastructure have also damaged ukraine's water supplies. officials have asked refugees not to return to the country this winter because of fears. a further shortages authorities are racing to try and restore power. and earlier i asked our key correspondent nicoli how difficult that's proving to be was definitely getting more difficult. i think the 1st few times these russian attacks on the power system happened was pretty extraordinary how resilient ukraine in its authorities, turned out to be basically within space of a day. each time you have more or less a return to normal. there were some plant outages but the kind of emergency outages when normally dealt with and that is now becoming a whole lot more difficult. we've heard from the authorities here,
6:08 pm
they basically run out of spare parts. so if, as expected, rush to continue with these attacks, the only way to repair the system will be with exclusively foreign supplied parts. now there are also some questions about whether foreign parts will fit the ukraine system, whether there are kind of technical compatibility issues there. and even this morning we saw about half a 1000000 households in care of her in the dark, not according to the time table, just kind of technical glitches there. and people are really starting to kind of try and think about whether they can actually go about their jobs in to work from home. if that's going to work. the dependent on internet connection to deal with clients. broad get money in from foreign clients. that is, will become whole, it more difficult and, you know, even here on the street, people talking about generates the 1st on talk about what they can put them on their balconies where they can get the diesel from to. this is really a really uncomfortable situation. and we haven't even really hit the kind of hardest coldest winter weather. yeah. has certainly had difficult situations for everyone there. and so president vladimir putin has urged people still living and had san to leave the city. so he's claiming he wishes to save civilian lives. there

is this an acknowledgement, nick that russian operations are not actually going according to plan but i think for some time now, it seemed to kind of clear that its own, which does basically the 1st major ukraine city that russia captured in this war back here with the basic within the 1st week is very, very vulnerable. it's on the west bank of the depot river. it's kind of little kind of bridge head of russian control, surrounded by ukrainian forces on all sides in the river on the other. all the supply lines are very vulnerable, bridges, the kind of pontoon bridges getting supplies into the russian soldiers. there is very, very difficult, and ukraine has been. it's best to make that even more difficult as for how fast is going to go. now they will watch strokes, reports and social media say of russian soldiers based dispute disappearing off the streets. checkpoints disappearing. russian flags coming down. but is also real worry here and ukraine to that might be a trick that are kind of russian provocation to get the ukranian troops moving in and then to launch counter attack there,
6:10 pm
they definitely are still confident. there are lots of very well trained and well supplied. russian troops ins different on. so since that we could see some really ugly battles, maybe street fighting. the week's come before ukraine fully returns control of the city. nick it briefly, if you could. moscow has said that it's exchange prisoners with keith, but what more do we actually know about this prisoner swap very little, except for the fact that among the ukrainians returned to war about 70 people who were in miracle. and as of style factory that you might remember from the spring, i think the most extraordinary things that they are talking at these exchanges are even happening. basically in the kind of years of 2014 where the fighting was actually a lot less intense. there were many fewer victims. this was a lot more difficult. they were constantly trying to have exchanged and they wouldn't happen and they would con counsellor last minute. they all happening now and ukraine and russia. awesome. how funny way to deal with each other at the same time. thanks. nick t w's. nick conley and keith. twitter employees are suing the company in
6:11 pm
a class action lawsuit over mass layoffs expected to be carried out today. the company recently acquired by the world's richest man eden, musk told employees they would be notified by terminations via email. twitter offices are closed for the day and badge access removed, and while there has been no official announcement, specifying the number of lay offs, u. s. media reports a half of twitters workforce could be like, uh right, well i'm joined now here in studio by emily lashenay from detroit. you business, emily? great to have you here with us. how our twitter employees reacting to this? well, they are upset. many of them have taken to twitter, where they worked previously to, to post about their sadness and their frustration. one employee even likened it to the hunger games. they're posting under the patched tag one team and, and some are taking legal action. as you mentioned, a group of now former twitter employees have filed
6:12 pm
a class action lawsuit in san francisco federal court. they are alleging that twitter broke the law that must broke the law by not giving them enough notice under a california statute. these employees should have had 60 days notice and that did not happen. um, but of course, you know, twitter has offices everywhere, right? so one, it won't be just in california where they're gonna have to deal with their kind of the legal issues that they could be facing. yeah, that, that is right. that is right. their headquarters are in dublin. and albino to day employees based on their region, have been receiving news of, of these, of their lay off. so it's, it's, it's trickling in and, but it's expected to be about half of them. tough news for those people. so what other changes have taken place or twitter since he la mosca took over last week, a largely personnel changes so far. he's fired a number of top executives. he fired the ceo, appro grove, all as well as the general counsel and the head of legal policy trust and safety.
6:13 pm
and there it, he's also removed the board of directors and installed himself as the single member of the board of directors. there's also, you know, an indications that many of his software engineers will be let go. he asked them to print out the code that they worked on in the past 30 to 60 days, and has brought in the tesla engineers to evaluate that code and essentially evaluate the productivity of the software engineers. it's a very different looking company where the signs of things now twitter also depends on advertisers for much of its revenue. how are they actually responding to all these changes? and the shake of that we're seeing your right twitter revenue, 90 percent of twitter revenue comes from digital advertising. and a lot of the brands that use twitter platform to advertise or waiting until the dust settles, a bit. volkswagen and audi, which is one of its subsidiaries, announced that they would be waiting and pausing advertising until things kind of

com to bit general mills, general motors have done the same thing and considering how much revenue twitter note needs from, from his advertisers. this could be a significant problem, so we'll have to wait and see tuesday for those a twitter or former twitter employees, emily lashonda from dw business. thanks. all right, well here's a reminder of the top story we're following for you. germany's chancellor will have shells pressed china on its support for russia and ukraine during talks in beijing on friday with dead chinese leaders. shouts, also address controversy over economic and human rights issues. a tell china he wants a deeper economic relationship. all right, well of next at news asia with my colleague melissa john, and don't forget that you can stay up to date on all the latest news on our website . dionte dot com and you can always follow us on our social media cats. d,
