victory gives her party control of the chamber for the next 2 years of jo biden's presidency. cortez moscow defeated her republican challenger adam lac salt, whose early lead dwindled after late counted balance came in. one of the win bring breaks the historical trend of the president's party, typically losing seats and mid term elections. let's take a closer look at the numbers. these are the seeds that we're not up for grabs in this election. and if you add all the newly decided races, you can see the democrats now leading with 50 seats, while the republicans hold 49 seats. one seat is still open, that's georgia which will hold a run off ballot in december. but with vice president comma harris being able to cast time breaking votes, control of the senate is now out of reach for the republicans. while the nevada senate race was among the tightest of the us mid terms. but of course,

a great result for the democrats. d w. washington correspondent to me. so misconduct had more certainly it's a great results for the democrats. i mean, this was very close and we knew heading into these elections that this race, in particular, would come down to the wire. i mean, what you need to know about nevada is that this was the senate race. the democrats were most worried about. they saw the democrat here, catherine cortez musto as being one of the most endangered senate democrats in the country. she was down in the polls ahead of the election to her republican opponent, adam lac salt will made a difference words those malan ballots that have been meticulously counted all week . and we know that male and ballots tend to skew in the favor of the democrats. now i spend some time on the ground with the most powerful private sector union in nevada. that is a culinary workers union. and they really are a powerhouse for the democrats. they ran a massive canvassing campaign going door to door with working class voters with voters of color in particular, trying to a stump for the democrats,
9:04 am
essentially because they say the democrats are the ones that best reflect their policies that might have made a difference. but certainly we'll have to wait and see who voted how. but yes, this is for the democrats, a really significant victory. now, assuming we can see it's still very late at night in washington where you are and this news broke rather late on saturday us. so our democrats reacting in how are they reacting to this victory? wishing some democrats and taking a twitter, for example, helena says a victory for democracy, for reproductive rights. and as a clear repudiation of republicans, i mean the democrats in the lead up to this vote worked hard to paint republicans as extremists that would put democracy at threat. and remember that heading into these elections, we had expected this republican red wave that republicans would sweep through the house of representatives and to possibly the senate that did not materialize. a president biden himself has been one of the loudest voices saying that voters are
9:05 am
very clear that they trust the democrats and their policies. and he actually commented on this victory and at the audience summit and cambodia take listen to what he said or toward graduation. is it schumer's? got a majority again. we're focusing now on on georgia. feel good about where we are and i know i'm a college optimist. understand. i'm not surprised, but i'm incredibly, please get your reflection. quality work kenley's. so the president, they're referring to the state of georgia. remember that there is a run off of there on december 6th between the republican candidate and the democratic candidate. but this does take pressure off that state to be the decisive factor in who will have control of the senate. this victory, nevada also means that democrats can have a majority on the committees in the senate,
9:06 am
so that's another boom boon for them. so that's something that the president is certainly celebrating. listening. tell us a bit more about want democratic control of the senate. in fact means for the president's agenda in the next 2 years, we have to weigh 1st of all to see who wins the house of representatives. we're still waiting for some very close races to be called there. but if that does end up that republicans gain control the house of representatives, they have a slight edge there. we would be talking about divided government. so one chamber of congress that would be in democrats hands the other republicans and that still doesn't means have trouble for president biden and his agenda. so republicans have vowed that they would stymie any spending plans. he has, for example, spending on climate change or perhaps further pandemic relief in the future. and they also have said that they want to launch investigations into president biden's family into the administration's, a withdrawal from afghanistan of afghan, a stand rather also into immigration policy. so things might still get tricky for

the president, but remember, if the republicans do get control of the house of representatives, it would be with a very small majority. and that would make it harder for them as well to pursue all of those things that they promised. so we have to wait and see how the chips fall. still in congress. d. w. cindy's them scanned a reporting from washington. d. c. c. me, thanks so much now to some of the other stories making headlines his hour. he was president joe biden has promised to deepen ties with an announcing a strategic partnership with a 10 member block initiative comes as the us seeks to contain the growing influence of an increasingly assertive china biden is scheduled to meet chinese leader. she hang at the g 20 summit in indonesia. on monday, she will, distribution has resumed, and haiti after 2 months of shortages, caused by armed gangs pumps, reopened after police flashed out gunman holding the country's main impor terminal

is on the verge of playing the leagues 1st ever game in germany. it's amazing. i know, and i told my teammates that you know you're, you're not gonna necessary. remember, every game you play in your whole career, ah, but these ones you do remember, they're very special just to go to another place. and i mean, have an experience like this and to, you know, when i'm older, i'll be thinking about pracs in at stadium. right? there and, and going to play in in orleans arena, which is amazing. so, you know, this is your whole life is made of memories and experiences and to do with the teammates and do it with a game that i love. and football has brought me a lot of places in life and has brought me to germany now. the nfl had no trouble at all. silly. now the tickets to its day bew on sunday and munich between the seahawks and buccaneers. it's not only a contest between 2 division leaders. it's also one featuring an icon in this poor tom brain. and chris harrington who filed
9:12 am
that report from the deadliest 4th is here in the studio with me to explain all of this a little bit more to all of us. ok, chris, i have to start with that basic question. why is the nfl american football playing this game in germany? right? the other football that's what everyone wants to know. why is it here in germany? here's the history with the nfl in germany in a nutshell. first, 1990 over 30 years ago was the 1st nfl game that actually took place in germany. that was right here in berlin, an olympic stadium. but it was a pre season game, and then we saw nfl europe start for the ninety's, the early 2 thousands that didn't really work well because there was an inability to connect with fans on television and radio. but the nfl, you know, they revisited this idea and they decided to bring the big boys, the main players that went in a failure. it was players leading into the nfl. but recently the nfl started their international tour. we've seen it in london,
9:13 am
and that was successful in now germany white germany, germany has a huge fan base. there was a period around 2012 to 15 where there was free to air television fans can watch american football, the seattle seahawks. one of the teams plane has a huge german speaking fan base. and then, i mean, we have to address the elephant in the room. tom freakin, brady. i mean, this is a perfect game, really to reignite, you know, the attraction in the lore. you mentioned over 70000 tickets sold the demand over 3000000 tickets. were requested online, so obviously fans attending will feel like they've once somewhat of a lottery in the make it to see tom brady, you know, before he exits the game. so i think it's a nice marriage. you know, that's finally come. you know, to this point, and i, i expect fireworks. all right, so clearly a lot of excitement, i among fans in germany. but how is this perceived by nfl fans in the u. s. a? i mean, are they also happy to see the nfl on tour?
9:14 am
yeah, you know, i think it's a cultural experience as an opportunity. obviously the, the nfl is an american dominated sport. all of the games typically take place, you know, within the united states. you know, but this is in an exception. and, and some players obviously haven't been so lucky to travel around the world, but tom brady, himself spoke of a famous teammate and had this to say in these is, this is what he expects from today's action. so my friend sebastian vollmer, who had played with one of the great german football players ever, ah, he told me that the crowds for the soccer games here are the best in the world. so that's what i'm expecting. i expect to be really loud and they'll be cheering all game. i'm so i'm sure they're very educated group of fans. they probably know football quite a bit now. so chris, will we see a long lasting relationship between the nfl in germany think oh, short term history. over the next 3 years, they'll be 3 games each year in germany rotating from frankfurt and munich today.
9:15 am
obviously it's in munich, but the nfl is really wanting the young, the young athletes in germany to take part in game interest in the nfl. one survey says american football is the 2nd most popular sport among 14 of 49 year old. and that might be some future nfl player to that mix. so i think building off of this success of this action that we're about to watch in munich, i think the future looks very bright for the nfl in germany. chris harrington found italy's 4th, always so great to talk to you. thank you. you're up to date now on p. w. news and mary evans team from the the team. thanks for the company. imagine so many pushing of lunch. so now in the world climate change keep a home to the story. this is my plan the way from just one week how much was can really get.
