an inspiring story about survival sanks to music fetched the cello player. well, i was the only one i'm super lucky. music under the swastika starts november 19th on d. w. ah ah, this is deed of you, news ly, from berlin. as the g 20 summit opens on the indonesian island of bali, ukraine's president to landscape gives a video address outlining a piece formula, demanding that russia reaffirm ukraine's territorial integrity. i'm calling from

measures to prevent any recurrence of russian aggression. the gathering of the world's most powerful leaders is being overshadowed by the conflict and its impact on the world. also coming up with the un announcing the global population passing 8000000 people, we go to india's most populous one by which is feeling growing pains ah, i'm pablo foliage. welcome to the program. ukrainian president followed amir lansky has addressed leaders of the world's largest economies gathered in indonesia. russia's war in ukraine is in the spotlight at this year's g. 20 summit, despite it not officially being on the agenda. so landscape told g 20 leaders via a video message that now is the time to end russia's war in once again laid out his conditions for end, the conflict is presenting what he called
10:02 am
a piece formula. it includes may come, please withdrawal of russian troops and full restoration of ukrainian control of its tara, just low enough. yes. use it within the absence of concrete steps to restore peace of the shade, prussia will simply try to deceive all of you. again, my multi will you see the world among and to spend the war that he just as it's defeats equal, are becoming clear, ask is valid. we will not allow russia to wait it out to him, then that build up its forces and then unleash a new series of tear and global destabilization, which i don't know. i'm convinced that now is the time that rushes destructive war that must in can't be stopped a ruin. you know, what is he school? he? well, that's pregnant d dog news chief international editor richard walker, who is in bali forest. hi richard, great to see. so we just heard the ukrainian president lansky make a very direct and strong appeal. tell us what else he had to say. yes we're and
10:03 am
i think it is interesting to, to break down what we just heard that pablo's name because this is a message really tailored to this audience of leaders of countries from around the world. not just, you know, the europeans use the lens. he knows to be pretty supportive of the ukrainian position, but also emerging economies in, in regions like here in southeast asia where leaders really feel under pressure from the economic fall out of the war. and literally would love to see the sci fi coming along as quickly as possible. and to lensky making clear to these leaders, his position that, you know, sci fi would not be a good thing if it comes on russia terms, simply freezing the conflicts in the position. it's in now, because all that would happen is russia would then have breathing space to, to rebuild its military position and simply attack again in the future. so really a kind of tailor made message at this moment in the war where ukraine really has
10:04 am
quite a bit of momentum. we've just recently re taking the very important safety hassan to try get the message across that. no, this doesn't mean that we should simply accept a ceasefire. now that if there is going to be any kind of negotiated settlement, it needs to be on ukraine's terms. i. e, full control of its territory. again, richard, tell us, has there been much reaction to zalinski? well, it's interesting if we look at some of the statements from some of the other leaders, the kind of leaders that i think is a lengthy will be trying to persuade, for instance, in a rental modi very important country. of course, india, india prime minister, who neurons from modi has been trying to sort of walk a line where he doesn't condemn russia's actions. he, in fact, imports more russian oil, while at the same time making statements in general about upholding the principles of the united nations. and the statement that modi made won't necessarily be as much comfort to a lensky book,
10:05 am
as he showed very much that kind of impatience for her a cease fire for a negotiated solution. that sa lensky is showing concern about saying that we have to find a way to return to the pier path of sci fi and diplomacy. and holding up the issues faced by, as he puts it, the poor citizens of every country. that was interesting point that he made that for the poor of india and other developing and emerging economies every day, life was already a struggle before this war came on top. and that these people are now dealing with what he called a double whammy. so showing that impatience to try to seek it seekers solutions, i think to lend his message really going up against that kind of position from leaders such as ignorant ramadi and others who really want to see a cease fire. as soon as it is as it can be achieved. well, that brings me on to my next question. is there much of a chance of unity among the g 20 leaders with regards to the war yet would?
10:06 am
yeah. so. so the indonesians for hosting vis, gee 20, have really been trying to, to get together what you call a communique, you know, the sort of final document that comes house with some. it's like this with all of the sort of stated their intentions. often a very long of diplomatic text life, and course very hard to find any sort of language about the ukraine war that everyone can agree on. given that russia is a member of the g 20 china, it's close. frank, also a member of the g. 20 likely to block anything really strong in terms of language that everyone can agree on to what you see in this statement or text that have been circulating ahead of a potential publication is essentially that most members condemned the war was in there. but acknowledging that not everybody did condemn the war, but there was another interesting phrase. and this actually came from the rent remedy who we've just been talking about, that today's era must not be of war. and this is something that indian prime in has been saying, he said it recently this autumn,
10:07 am
and some of his ministers have been saying it. so, so that this is a signal that, that's the kind of language that everybody can come around that this must not be an era where war kind of dominates life and the world must get back to development doubt. so i think that is something that we're expecting to see in the final document. thanks, richard. deed of news chief international editor richard walker, recording from body well, the ukranian president zalinski and his sad g 20 address came hard on the heels of his surprised visit to harrison. he said hassan's recapture by ukrainian forces on friday marked the beginning of the end of the war. russia withdrew its troops after 8 months of occupation. will order near the lansky came to the liberated city to deliver a message of hope and defiance. the chill, he was not very pleasant when i saw the number of destroyed houses,
10:08 am
the number of destroyed cafes. this is what the russian federation has done to our country. it shone the whole world that it can kill. but all of us are armed forces on national guard. our intelligence services have shown that it is impossible to kill you. crane mammals, the retreating russians are close, so the landscape visit is dangerous. it isn't the 1st time the wartime leader has ignored personal risk to lift the nation's spirits. ah, hassle mis draped, ukraine's national colors. so too, it's jubilant residents. the moment of liberation still fresh on their minds. we just understood that there are no russian troops in the city and samson exchanged bova smiling and approve of the somebody in you 1000. and then, oh, when we return to be, we saw how the flag was the rising by all the people.
