exodus of investors in response to new green energy subsidies in the united states . and in china, authorities take a step back after protest. as the government begins to roll back, some of the coven 19 restrictions, many residents cautiously south celebrate their new freedom. and we check in on the world cup and cutter where things got well, kind of mess for the australian team looking for a spot in the quarter finals that's coming up later in support. ah, next, spicer, welcome to the program. local media in iran are reporting that the country has abolished its morality police. the announcement comes after months of nationwide demonstrations triggered by the rest of gina massa armine. the young woman died

after being taken into police custody for violating around strict female dress code . rans, attorney general told a major state news agency that quote, morality police have nothing to do with the judiciary. earlier i talked to camera and machin, he's a senior lecturer on international relations at the university of sussex. i asked him what he made of this announcement. well, 1st of all, i would sure note of caution initially about the announcement because as the attorney general said, the morality so called morality police was not part of the judiciary system. it wasn't an organ that destry, it was actually part of the so called law enforcement forces or, you know, police force. so did they, did such an announcement should really be announced by that institution. and that hasn't happened yet. and secondly, since the protest began after the killing of fuzzy and i mean these,

this morality police patrols have defacto seized because of the situation. so they really haven't been in operation a lot to 3 months anyway. so i think until the government formerly announces this, you have to treat this question, but what is clear is that the government is, pursues a to policy similar heinously. it seems that on the one hand it has increased the crackdown issues like this sentences against those that rested in the, in the, during the protests increasing military presence in certain areas such as chorused on, on baluchistan at the same time, they are like signaling certain messages about flexibility or adaptability of these let me go public towards certain policies including the so called, hey job policies. so hoping this combination of the to the stick and the car, it might bring the protest on. and so it's not quite perhaps a victory. is it likely to stop the protest? do you think though?
4:04 pm
well, the fact that for the 1st time, really islamic republic announcing such approach, it is in itself quite a significant with 3 because the origin is really not used to making concessions to process. so in that sense, i think the process have already actually achieved something quite significant. but i really, i'm not sure actually this will bring the process to, to a halt. in fact, one reason such announcements might be made is that people, organizations of civil society protested have and they will have a 3 days of action on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of december and over the course of the coming week. and maybe the government is trying to somehow preamp this by announcing such decisions to kind of discourage people from coming to the street saying that what you want is already being discussed or is going to be implemented. but i think those 3 days are crucial in assessing whether the protest movement is going to have the momentum it has had

400000000000 euros in fact, into environmentally friendly processes and products. but the problem for europe is that a lot of these measures and the inflation reduction act are aimed at boosting domestic production for u. s. companies. and that, of course could put europe at a disadvantage. and there's a lot of worry over this. and what ursula under lion is saying is that the, you need to re balance the playing field. she laid out in this speech in bruce that the you needs to become more assertive in its policies and not let the united states take advantage of it. at the same time, the president said that she's very much urging cooperation over confrontation, but i'm telling you that nerves are so afraid over this. i r a that the head of the european parliament trade committee said today that he believes the i r a rises to the level of the u. s. the, you needing to file a complaint at the world trade organization. so certainly the tensions are very high right now. yeah, those are fighting words. listen, explain this to me. or savannah line was saying that the u. s. could lure investors

european investors away with its green policy. so why can't the you match the subsidies to, you know, move its own goal post? yeah, it's not just loring investors away. it's also shutting out european companies from benefiting from the measures. under this i r a, the tax breaks and the subsidies that would be available for north american companies. and. and so what, what she says is that the european union also needs to look at it, state aid policies, and make it easier for companies here to apply for, for a federal funding for funding from, from the european union. and she said that that's what they're going to do. it hasn't been made exactly clear how those rules might be adjusted. but she said that this is necessary in order to, as she said, rebalance the playing field. ok, d w. terry schultz in brussels. thanks for that. coven 19 curves, are being relaxed in china, following some of the biggest displays of public anger. in decades,
