police. earlier i spoke to conran maton, senior lecturer on international relations at the university of sussex. and i asked him what he makes of this announcement. while i think we have to treat this announcement with utmost caution for a number of reasons. the 1st one is that these so called morality police, which people actually in iran use it more commonly under the name of the job police, which enforces islamic. his job is not kind of a branch of judiciary, but of no inforcement forces, which hasn't made any announcement. secondly, these, the oppression of this particular branch of the police has effectively cease in the south of the protest. largely because the police forces have been deployed to crack down on the protesters and they just don't have enough troops to kind of continue this operation. but most importantly, the enforcement of the job in iran, or the so called islamic dressing code is enshrined the law. it's part of the
8:03 pm
criminal law which goes back to the $8983.00 and that's part of the law remains intact and can only be repealed by the legislation in the parliament, which has not happened at this point. and even the government hasn't announced is so i think this is more probably the tactic by the government to dissuade people from going to the streets or you know, doing strike action on, on these, those 3 days, which a position has called for in the, in this coming week, but again, protesters are now stepping up the pressure and calling for a 3 day economic strike. surely it's a sign, at least they believe that their movement is winning. absolutely, i mean in the sense i was talking mostly and in kind of legal social sense of, of the, of this particular announcement in the end. yes. in the, in the sense that the government or a high official indian state comes and makes this announcement in a press conference in itself is unprecedented because there's like

a public up. iran is not used to making concessions to protest is one down on the streets that has never happened in the past 40 to 3 years. so this is a find that they are on the back foot. they are trying to kind of maneuver around these in the, you know, the, the new way will process which are coming. and of course people are also re mobilizing and trying to re launched a protest in a, in an innovative way. true stock actions and so on and so for so overall i think, you know, even if symbolic, this is an important victory, but in the sense that it remains the law still, this particular law enforcement of a job. i think we are not there yet in the half minute or so that we have left is it likely will now see an escalation of the protest movement? i believe so, and we have to remember that even though this protest movement began because of the keeling of massage, and i mean in the under the custody of this job or morality police,
8:05 pm
the demands of the protest. those actually go far beyond the simply removing incarcerated job. it's all about, you know, people shouting, we don't want to limit republic just the dictator does, to their supreme lead. the women lie freedom. so if we look at the slogans, what they want actually from the mental change in the iranian political system rather than one particular kind of practice or law to be removed so, so long as we see movement in that direction, i'm not sure that the, the protest would be satisfied with what the government has announced thus far, and we'll have to end it there again many thanks to cameron martin. thank you very much. the european union is adapting its rules in the wake of a new green energy subsidies program introduced by the united states speaking in belgium. today, the european commission president said, competition is good when there is a level playing field. ursula on the line says it's

8:10 pm
i mean, absolutely. france are definitely looking like tournament favorites. this is the defending world champion, and they are actually looking to repeat that. if they did do that, that would be absolutely crazy because that hasn't been done since brazil did it 60 years ago. now france, they did have get to rest a bunch of their star players come in to this game. so they were pretty fresh pulling. they knew it was going to be an uphill battle. and ultimately they didn't have what it took to cope with that french onslaught. now france, it was a record night for france and we saw killian, him by, he's now the leading scoring the tournament. he also beat henley's record of scoring. the most goes for a male player under the age of $24.00 olivia's, you beating terry andries record there. so this france side is definitely going to be scary. moving forward in the tournament for other sides while moving forward is also argentina. you were in the stadium for argentina's when over australia, even from our distance,
