a drone attacked an airfield setting and oil storage on fire because lies on the border with ukraine. but the incident comes a day after multiple explosions at a military base in the roseanne region. and at the angles air base, much deeper inside russian territory. moscow blamed ukrainian drones for these blasts, calling them acts of terrorism. give, has not claimed responsibility. he w, corresponded my thunder is in cave. he has his analysis all the series of attacks in russia. let me tell you that this is not the 1st time that ukraine has targeted or has gone after targets in russia, in russian territory behind behind the border. essentially, i'm ever since the beginning of the war. ukraine has flown drone attacks in the

boarder regence or sent in c drones out into the black sea to an attacker. russian russian targets also on the russian annexed crimean peninsula. but what is new about this attack is sheer. the reach that you gradients have demonstrated that they can have. the 2 erases that were attacked over 500 kilometers away from the ukranian border and our targets of strategic importance that's, that's where long range bombers take off to attack in cities in ukraine. farmers that can be equipped with nuclear capabilities and showing that ukrainians that potentially they haven't claim responsible yet, but they can get to them and target these targets. that's shirley worrisome for the russians. let's take a look at some other world news stories. i didn't see his former president has been sentenced to 6 years in jail on charges of corruption. christina fernandez de cares

a foreign leader. donald trump's family business has been found guilty of tax fraud. a court in new york for the president's company was convicted of hiding compensation. it paid executives over a 15 year period faces a fine $1500000.00. now the us democratic incumbent warner has won a run of vote in the state of georgia. the final senate race in the countries mid term elections one are narrowly beat his republican rival, herschel walker. that gives the democrats an outright majority of the senate without meeting a tie breaking vote. vice president walker's defeat is another blow, a disappointing mid terms. you know, the republicans corresponded to me. so misconduct is standing by in atlanta, georgia. hi, so me,
5:06 am
what does this result mean for us president joe biden and his party, the democrats? well tell me, 1st and foremost, it is a moment of celebration for the president and the democrats. we've talked about the fact that usually the party that is in the white house gets punished in the mid term elections that did not happen. and in fact, it is the 1st time since 1934 that the party in the white house, in this case president jo biden's, democrats did not lose a single senate seat. so this is something we're going to see, the president really play out in the months to come and it could be decisive in his decision, of course, of whether to run again. he said he's going to run again in 2024. so that is the 1st point to take away in the immediate future, there are a few benefits here for the democrats as well. this means that they have an outright magick majority. rather in the senate, it means that they will have a majority in senate committees. these are committees like the foreign affairs committee, the appropriations committee. they are vital and monitoring government operations.
5:07 am
they're really important to shaping legislation. and now with this outright majority, the democrats will also have a majority in the committees. it is incredibly important for the democrats symbolically here in the state of georgia as well. the reason for that is, democrats have invested so much time and money, and gaining a foothold in the state. it has been reliably republican for decades, until 2020, when joe biden was able to win this state to carry the state. and that is a large part because of the demographic changes we're seeing here in atlanta where i am right now where you have a growing immigrant population, a number of people moving here. and this is something that the democrats want to parlay and to further victories in the future. so this is going to be a key piece of the narrative going forward. told me that the democrats, they hear in the deep south, they are able to win. so not only an important victory for joe biden, but a symbolic victory looking ahead to 2024 as well. and so what does this leave the republicans, especially with the elections in presidential election in 2024. while
5:08 am
tommy were single republicans really licking their wounds at the stage, 1st and foremost, they're saying they did not put their best foot forward. the republican candid here candidate here are hershey walker. a he is considered a weak candidate for the republicans. he was mired and scandal in controversy was caught in lies he delivered really bizarre speeches in his campaign rallies as well . so the republicans are thinking a lot about the type of candidates that they're going to put forward in the next election cycle. and the other really important point to get to make note of your tone, these the fact that herschel walker was hand picked by the former president, donald trump. he is one of several candidates who did not perform well after an endorsement from the former president. this is going to be a really difficult battle for the republicans in the next stuff you 2 years leading up to the next election. because the president still, the former president rather still holds a lot of sway over the party. and yet his candidates, as i said, didn't farewell. so right now, it's going to be a moment of reckoning for the republicans to go back to the drawing board and look at what exactly is going to be a winning
5:09 am
a winning equation here for them. and if that's going to include the former president, donald trump, so those are the big take. take away for the republicans. but again, the democrats are calling this an important victory tonight. right. so me, so it's kinda in atlanta, thank you. ah, the woke up in cutoff underdogs, morocco of knocked out spain in the round of 16. after a go las 120 minutes. it all came down to a penalty shoot out and spain missed all 3 of their kicks. the result sends the last arab team standing through to the quarter finals morocco with a better start to the game. but 12 minutes in sure. if i came, it's free cake went over the bar, halfway through the 1st half spain with a big chance to take the lead. but the cross bar and morocco skipper bone over in the way, and the play was eventually rolled off side. on the brink of half time, a pinpoint cross bond knife where it in the books. but his header went over the bar
5:10 am
. spain dominated the 2nd top, and it almost paid off in the last minute. but bono came up with a safe and the game went 2 extra time. both teams had chances to win it within a 120 minutes. but spain keeper, who knows the month stood strong against valid era and the post was in the way of spain. fleet, the game went to penalty, shoot out at morocco's keeper bono became the man of the match, saving to penalty. before i came in, i got the decider and did the pointing end to the world cup of spain, morocco go through to the quarter finals. the w max merrill was at a marketplace indoor her soaking up the atmosphere after the game. oh yeah. and so has market and soup walker, the atmosphere is really special. this is where moroccan france gather the last time they played when they made it out of the group station. and now they're instead very 1st quarter final. there are $15000.00 americans living here in utah,
5:11 am
$35000.00 times in total expected to be here. and what a raucous atmosphere they fabricated in the stadium. and i also here with a party is going on into the early hours. they have a really special team, a clever team, tactically astute, that showed so much against spain and before that, against croatia, and belgium. so they have every chance of going far in this competition, even though they are under dogs. 14 of the $26.00 squad members were born outside of morocco, but they've united under the american flag and won a special atmosphere the last penalty here people were huddled around their phones, watching the game on their smartphone. then the common. 2 was lost and out worse because people have been celebrating not just mirand moroccans, but we've seen algerian flags, egyptian flags, guitar in saudi arabian flags. i've spoken to many friends here, moroccans, on non moroccans. we've all united behind this team and are celebrating morocco making that very 1st quarter final here at the very 1st world cup in an arab

country. portugal are also through to the welcome cortez after thrashing switzerland, 61 in their round of 16 match. in a dominant performance, portugal took a tune, a lead into halftime before putting another 4 goals a month after the break. as ela ramos was a stand out those scoring a hattrick genuine elder and he started off the bench 2016 european champions will play morocco in the quarter finals to take a deeper look at the latest from the woke up with joined by mathias broke from dw sports, but he has what was your take on the morocco, spain game? yes or incredible. re morocco like the last african team in the world cup and the entire arab speaking world was behind them. and you could tell today the stadium was a great atmosphere. we haven't seen that in a lot of other games at this woke up unfortunately, but today, great atmosphere and morocco, unbelievably through, through the quarter finals in
5:13 am
a penalty shoot out after all. so what we saw on that panel the shoot out was morocco keeping the new and spain missing all 3 penalties that they had. very similar to japan in their last year round of 16. but what was very, very remarkable is that morocco game was perfect. they didn't have the majority of the ball. they knew we have to play to our strength, spain, at the front of the books, around the books all the time didn't create many chances. they just didn't find a way through an encounter attacks, morocco, always dangerous engine. what they deservedly through and what of match up it will be in the next round. and to the other game, portugal, when we last spoke, you predicted a bit of a close encounter. it was far from that. yeah, thanks for mentioning to that again and i thought it would be more of a competition up to making the round of 16 in the last 3 world cups. but unfortunately, was a blow at 6 wanted ended in the and even without christiano, rinaldo who even only got up in the 75th minute or around that total domination
5:14 am
before to go from start to finish. so that looks very good. so the only team that comes close to that performance was, was probably brazil, people scoring a goal after going at 39 years of age. and then gonzalez ramos 3 golds in this game . scoring a had to rec, so very, very good performance by portugal. and they know phase of morocco we just talked about. so that would be very interesting and calendar. i think portugal slide favorite, but morocco, as we saw today, never to underestimate. so maybe that's a $5050.00, get the quote, a final line up is complete. what's your pick from there? yes, so we just talked about the portugal morocco one, so i'm not going to touch on that any further crash or brazil. very interesting. brazil, the favorites for me not to win the trend together with france. but chris shaw? well, they were in the welcome final 4 years ago, so they want to have another shot at it. and england, france for me, the game of the round france and bob pay up front. amazing. already a lot of goals at this world cup and then we see bellingham and kane and england.
5:15 am
so i think that's a $6040.00 game, maybe for france, and i think they're going to be the favorite to defend that title. but england, obviously in with a shot, and that's for me, the game of the round will look forward to seeing whether your prediction works out this time. you know, as much as rick, thanks for speaking to us. well that's it for now of next doc film takes a look at the fate of 3 cities. hit by war and disaster is now that they faded from the headlines. there's always more news on our website, w. com. last on twitter and instagram at the w news is the handle. i'm told me a lot of the name for myself and the team. thanks for joining us. interest. the global economy. our portfolio d w. business. beyond. here the closer look at the project.
