12:18 am
good evening. thank you for having the daniel look already the european union. it's rather stunning they receive. they will no longer as of december 5th, take any seaborne oil for russia, which is the bulk of it, and united states and canada already are doing that. so russia is mainly selling what it can't sell in europe. they're selling as much of it as they can to india, china and turkey. and those countries are already paying russia well below the market price $2528.00 per barrel below the usual price for russian oil. so just like right now, the price cat doesn't have much effect because $60.00 a barrel is above what russia is getting from those countries. so to this doesn't, you know, there's no more countries that are obeying a price care that aren't already not taking russian oil. so it has very little effect right now. this is a bit of
12:19 am
a chest gain being set up by both sides. that will now develop step by step in my opinion. ok, by rushing economist explained it like this. the lower the volume is in the market, the higher the price will be. so russian will be compensated by the rise and price of oil, which will be paid by other customers like china or india, as you said, considering that global prices should rise to as a result. so what you're saying is on this plan, this is how it should work. it's just not as simple as yes. well, let me give you an example. of course, the example you just gave me in the limit you think of your calculus class in the limit that goes to 0. ok, because there are selling in the world. so russia will certainly be selling less oil over time, because that was a huge amount of oil that went to the european union and february, 5th. european union will stop taking refined products, diesel, and so forth, which was a very important market. now to move that oil that would take maybe
12:20 am
a week or so to come from the baltic ports of russia into europe. now we'll take 23, and more like 4 weeks to go all the way around to china and india. they need that many more time ships. and the problem is you can't get insurance on those ships. generally real, you know, through world standard insurance, unless you get it from companies in the european union and the united states and britain and those countries will not give insurance, will not allow it any more for russian oil unless it's sold under the price care. so even if, you know this is a problem, so india and china, i'm going to agree with the price cap. but because there's a price can have their names. russia, you know, you can't sell your oil europe anymore. you can't sell it over a certain price elsewhere, so we won't go along with the cap, but you better give us a lower price and that seems to be what's happening. and that's what the, by the administration intended. ok, and now russia's hoping that the you will be hit by this. so how is the you coping
12:21 am
at the moment with this price cap cap with its shift away from russian oil? i'm with the oil. it's good. i mean, gas is another matter. the is old, they russia has this lever over europe, but in oil it seems to be so far going pretty well. it's being handled pretty well . so we don't see any great spikes in the price of oil right now. of course, we all know what's coming is a recession in europe. everybody is predicting us. and china can. i mean they're trying to come out of coven, eventually they're going to have a big demand for oil and gas. for right now they have a bit of less as we all know. ok, so for right now it looks like the demand is going to be soft going forward, and there's not going to be any significant shock getting into next year. many analysts predict the price to go fairly high as possible if demand picks up and, you know, russian oil can go there. but in the long run,
12:22 am
there's plenty of oil in the world. the oil in the middle east is plenty boil and you know, but that takes a while. i can plan to much to, to look forward to for 2023 then also drama there in the energy market. i bet tom o'donnell. thank you very much for that. thank you. to northeast and united states where a winter storm has caused travel chaos for several days. now, passengers have been forced to shelter in place with roads closed and flights cancelled. but southwest airlines has drawn the particular ire of passengers it canceled over 70 percent of flights. on monday he was still struggling to clear the backlog. meanwhile, other airlines, like delta american, united and jet blue, have already recovered for the most part with under 2 percent flights. cancel, antennae, australia, monitoring the situation from new york force. so teddy, tell us more about how the airlines have reacted to the travel chaos to the store. that's going on that well,
12:23 am
it seems that the passengers of southwest certainly are bearing the brunt of this. chaos we've seen. ice on the runways, aircrafts can't go in the air, luggage being sent to random places, people being stranded. other airlines, as you said, certainly are doing. ferrying a little bit better, but south west. well, it's a getting the ire of investors. we're seeing the 7 percent decline in stock value, but we're also seeing the hire of passengers and the government president bite and even name check the company in a tweet and the department of transportation has said that they are going to investigate the quote unquote unacceptable rate of cancellations and delays, but really this just shows the susceptibility of many of these companies to these extreme weather events that are becoming ever more frequent under climate change. right. and teddy, the question on everyone's lips is when will things get back to normal? not just with the weather, but also with everything getting back online from these businesses. yeah,
12:24 am
well it really depends on what we mean by normal, right? well, the normal 2022 has been bouts of crises for the industry. now some of these airlines have gotten back quicker southwest, maybe by thursday we are hearing, they will see less cancellations. however, really these issues stand back to the start of the pandemic when there was a demand shock. and airlines really did share much of their staff despite the government help. and now what we're looking at is they have been on prepared for the resurgence in demand. perhaps we'll see in new years resolution to improve in 2023. well, let's hope for those improvements. thank you very much. teddy austro on the new york stock exchange now to some of the other global business stories making news. the data of 400000000 twitter accounts could potentially be at risk, including email addresses and phone numbers, alleged cyber criminal published nature 37 celebrities,
