1st. the president of vietnam is not the most powerful executive role in the country. that claim goes to the general secretary of the communist party. so explain to viewers why this news is nevertheless important. because it shows us the direction that res politics is going in. and i think what's going on behind the scenes is basically a take over all the governments of the, of the one party states by its security when by the hard liners missed. the presidents have been a good game. quite a good reputation is being a sort of a technocrat, somebody who got things done, but had become a bit of a saw of the government before he became president. and he's been fired along with 2 deputy prime ministers, one of whom was responsible for controlling the coverage epidemic in vietnam. and the other was well known as the as the face of foreign affairs. both of them also

became sort of stars. and i think there's a sort of feeling within the communist property that these people became too well known that have been too keen to, to make their own policy. and that they had forgotten communist party discipline. and that's really what the communist party doesn't like. so this is the communist party court. it sort of deepest, darkest bits of the party taking back control. so let's discuss these corruption charges. i mean, this reminds me and of course i caught your own comments on twitter of the chinese communist party anti corruption campaign that was really about taking out political opponents. that it sounds like what you're suggesting is happening here. yeah, i mean i don't have any doubts. these corruption charges, you know, are probably genuine. i mean, we know this the, the cov, it conduction scandals, cost people in vietnam and abroad, you know, $10.00,

possibly hundreds of millions of dollars in terms of extra cost to, to go home on when we population price and in terms of not very good testing kids and these ministers were ultimately responsible for the problem is that there are plenty of other corruption scandals that don't get investigated. and it's clear that the ones that do get investigated generally do get done. so because of political reasons. and so mr. charles, who is the leader of the communist party, the most important man in the country as a master of playing these games. and he is really use these corruption scandals to bring down his political enemies. so i think what we're seeing and then you could call the she, if a cation of it. so the, the kind of methods she's paying is used in china now being used by the vietnamese communist party in vietnam. now for those outside vietnam, i imagined that the big question they will have is whether this will impact the business climate there. can you talk about that?

well, i think the communist party wants to key economic growth going because it needs to keep jobs going. it needs to keep the population satisfied so it won't do anything directly in a stops economic growth. but the same time it, it's also trying to impose greater control. so inevitably there's going to be slowed down. there's going to be restrictions. and also there's this sort of climate of fear really, that, you know, lot of officials are worried about taking decisions in case they get caught up in a corruption scandal later on. all the or some of their actions are used against them. a lot of the forward businesses are slightly isolated because they, they operate in special economic zones where the rules are much, much more liberal. and the state and enterprises will use the communist party connections to get things done. but the domestic private sector, the smaller businesses, they're more likely i think, to experience a slow down. and that might have
