i get it has been growing across paris since the arrest, the former president pedro castillo, the country's 1st leader from a rural and d in background. many of those demonstrating here have traveled from the poorer region. now bringing that fight to the capitol, fueled by mistrust in the countries elite, an anger at the bloodshed linked to crackdowns on protesters in their home towns get a more long survey. we won't, di napoli wanted to resign, and a conquest to be restructured into that. i found that we want a new constitution so that the country can find its way back to p. i suppose. he think i must. well, there is not poverty. i'm was my fin laura band. and most of there is nothing feet, you know, histories waiting for us, but that's why we came here today to fight her. hello kelly. oh, no thought when no terrorist for long. there we go. now they say we are terrorist. but that's not the truth. that's not how should be when now, asking dana well to,

to step down president bolo, artie has insist that she won't resign, as, as she does supposed to push to bring forward elections for president and congress . the 2024. that's unlikely to quiet these protest is and help hill a country deeply divided well earlier i spoke to dw correspondent the colorist who is in the previous capital, lima. and i asked her why the protests which have been taking place for weeks have been growing and spreading. yes, that's right. the purpose of spreading to what so me my now, which was not the center of attention for the past 2 weeks, because the main protests are still in the south. where at the moment, also massive protests and protest this up trying to take several airport in the region. now people have come to the capital for lima because they feel that they are not being hurt. and they are angry as well because they have been,
2:07 am
several people killed more than 50 people have been killed in clashes with the police as well in connection with these protests. and the last week we just had the conversion of one more death in the southern regions. so they want to be heard here in the city of lima. and right behind me right now is a small, a protest. actually, a pro governmental a people who are in favor of the president of the novel watley just in front of them. other protesters who are anti government and that at the moment here in the city are the majority of protesting just this is on the very small scale. but the city here in lima is living some tension, especially in the central areas where some parts of the protest have also been attacked with tear gas or by the police. so there certainly will be still a long afternoon and evening coming out of nicole or the protesters any closer to achieving their demands. it doesn't look like me,
2:08 am
i'm at the moment and they are still here protesting and say they will stay as long as it needs for the novel and wanted to resign for new congress to reform for new elections. but from the governmental side, there is not much movement into that direction. i spoke to some people who were camping at the university side, kayla who are at the go to the coin, you know, and visit out what day it was for for lima, for the future. good morning, so we won't, di napoli wanted to resign, and the conquest to be restructured to put us on them. we want a new constitution so that the, i can find its way back to p. i said, was easy. i, you must. well, there is no poverty, i must me feel horrible panels. most of there is nothing bold feed, you know, history is waiting for us. that's why we came here today to fight her. hello, charlie. oh, no software, not your tower. it's for longer waco. now they say we are terrorist, but that's not the truth. that's not how it should be when no asking dean, it will allow us to step down. nicole,

it sounds like the protesters are pretty determined what's being said in peru though about possible solutions to the current situation. the possible solutions would be for the protesters earlier elections, but at the moment that's only talks of elections in april 2024. and even these are not even approved yet. it's a longer process to get early elections here. it needs to have a change in the constitution. for example, the approval of the congress and the approval from the legislative that's only a few things that need to happen and that needs to be time for candidates to be kind of elected to be in the process. of course, this would be a solution from the protesters side, but if you look at the reality at the moment, it's been a lot of been charged before it was a little castillo. and that was so much unrest in the last few years in federal politically that the instability maybe is difficult to achieve in these next weeks as a solution for now,
2:10 am
for us to say they will stay as long as it needs and focus as long as she's that i would love to resign by what happens after if she would do resigned is a bit uncertain at the moment. and nobody can really predict if he's protest, then we'll actually stop tanks to co nicole reese in lima. let's have a look now at some other stories making headlines around the world. the german parliament has recognised the massacre of ethnic you cds in iraq as genocide. the move was hailed by your ged community representatives who attended the session in parliament fighters from the so called islamic state killed more than a 1000 years ease in northwestern iraq in 2014 u. s. president joe biden is in california visiting areas hated by deadly rain and snow storms. at least 20 people died in the extreme, whether by matt, with people impacted by the damage to determine what additional federal funds are

2:12 am
round baldwin denied responsibility for the death at the time, saying he was told to go and was cold and industry term, meaning it's safe to use. well, entertainment journalist k j matthews is following the story from los angeles. and i asked her whether there had been any reaction from alec baldwin. you know, from the very good go, i think you remember he did an interview with a journalist here that me us obviously were he said he just could not have pulled the trigger and said he didn't think that he would be charge would be in his words, a terrible miscarriage of justice, but now here we are to day and he has been charged the 2 counts of involuntary manslaughter. that is in the state of new mexico. and so far i been looking at all of the social media, usually pretty active on instagram, that represents alec baldwin did release a statement saying that this decision distorts helene hutchins tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice. mister baldwin had no reason to believe there
2:13 am
was a live bullet in the gun or anywhere on the movie sets about in part what part of the statement that was released on behalf of alan ball. is he looking at jail time if convicted? yes, it's very, very interesting that you mentioned it because i was looking up to see, you know, what does this, these cows, you know how, what yell time couldn't get. we'll remember he's been charged with 2 different types of involuntary manslaughter. the 1st type would only give you 18 months behind bars. the 2nd type carries a mandatory sentence of 5 years behind bars. and there really has not been any word from his camp as to whether or not or plead guilty or take some sort of plea deal, which might get him off the hook from cellar of from having any type of deal time. and just having probation, i will still have to wait for that that the shooting has focused attention on film production, safety. what repercussions have there been for the industry?
2:14 am
it's funny you should mention it. you know, there is a state senator here in california is already set to introduce a safety bill. basically there were require tupper standards on movie sets. i think he tried it, introduce it at some point last year. it didn't go through, but now the alec ball went in the armor on the set had been charged with involuntary manslaughter. he feels this the state senator here in california. they don't have a better chance of being passed here and that there just needs to be many more safety precautions to make sure that this hasn't happened. because remember this all happened because there were live rounds of ammunition mixed with dummy, right? and there should have never been live ground right on the set at all. and one thing to mention is that even though these 2 people, alec ball in the armor have been charge, we still don't know how the live rounds got to set. we know what company were supposed to deliver the round. we don't know if that company had anything to do
2:15 am
with a mistake in the delivery live rounds to the st. certainly a terrible tragedy. thanks. k. j entertainment journalist, k. j matthews, in los angeles. thank you. all right, you are up to date coming up. next is our documentary series with taiwan. the tale of inc. digital democracy. tiger deals key about the video that goes enable other get out of media, legal bola go up or down. but again, i just got into that and i giga or would you? yeah, but sure, let up joel media dog. currently more people than ever on the move worldwide in such a better life to job mm.
