today were accompanying dw, traveling reporters and the endless adventurer youtube. ers allison and eric dealer on their tour through central europe in an electric camperdown will be taking us to tourist hotspots in germany, austria and italy, with things kick off in the south of germany and munich, the capital of area. i everyone, my name is eric. i know we are coming up with dw travel and going up electric camper band road through year. we have done a lot of road trip in our travels mostly in the us, and almost always with big gas guzzling vehicle. but this time we're doing things a little bit differently since we're in an electric camera being that means no gas require y'all, but it only gets just over 300 kilometers per a bull charge. so that means we're gonna have to be a little bit more strategic with when and how we recharge. yeah, that's what i mean super important because we are planning to go 2000 kilometers
6:32 pm
here, starting up here in germany. they will be going to austria, northern italy all the way down to the coast, and then eventually making their way back here. and you know, our challenge is to discover as much as humanly possible, while also being a little bit more eagle, conscious than what would be on our typical road trip. so that's going to be no gas, no disposable cups. and really just reducing our weights as much as we can. we may fail at this goal, but we're going to do our best. all right, enough time to get this road trip officially under way. we're heading about 100 kilometers south germany. tall is. let's do with the guys. we've stumbled on the cutest little germantown that we're driving through . we want to take a stab of financing a garbage part partic, kirchen. yeah, gar,
6:33 pm
ms. parker can. that's the one. but it's pretty incredible. it is super charming and fitting at the base of all these mountain clouds or what's been around if we didn't have a date with the tallest mountain in germany, we would have to stop here. again. i'm not gonna lie. when we landed in munich, i wasn't super stoked because i wasn't ready to be back in a big city. but now that we've left and we're in the countryside, i'm realizing how much i missed here of these views, these tiny towns. it's just so beautiful and exciting. ah ah, we have made it to the very 1st campsite of our road trip. it is actually at the zig spits resort, and it sits just beneath the mountain that's it ran over there. you can't tell it's
6:34 pm
a lot taller than that, but the clouds are covering the very tip top. yeah, it is so freaking epic. yeah. we have such a great view til. and y'all, it has its very own access to this cable car that runs from the bottom here at the campsite. oh, the way up to the top, apparently there is a restaurant up there. i think there's hiking, there's all sorts of stuff. where for sure, going to be doing that, but before we do, i think we gotta charge this baby app if we can figure it out. yeah. so so of course our vehicle comes with the typical connector to charge it, but it also comes with a whole heap of adapter. so let's see if we can find the right one. i think this one matches the pedestal over there. the way it works is just line up the orange dots that should kind of pop right on there. and we'll try and connect in this chord here has this juice booster thing. i don't really know how we use this. sowards can see what happens. it is, plug it in, it uses the filament with
6:35 pm
feel like it goes closer. something open that up in well this light came on and it's flashing green. oh so what's the for jordan? i do. i think that we're charging, we got a little red light right there. i would expect it to be green, but those are charging right. oh yeah, check it out. charging completed in 10 hours. 20 minutes. holy cow. oh, good thing. we're saying overnight. now that we've got this baby charging, let's take a look on the inside. let's start with the back. when you open it up, you'll notice the system of slides. and this 1st one here is actually your kitchen . in this 1st slide, you have all of your dishes and some cleaning supplies. the 2nd compartment holds all of your eating utensils, as well as a bunch of pots and pans that you can put with. and this 3rd compartment is probably the coolest because it actually has a functioning think that so need,
6:36 pm
it's actually battery powered around into here. and when you're done with the water, you just dump it out or dispose of it appropriately. easy vents, right? you guys, we get so high seat up front. this is so neat. and apparently there is like a whole pool because we can cook in the bag and then even if you have a proper living, super cool. no. when it's time to get back on the road of that right down, slide this back in a place where you go. awesome and easy. you have you have a living room, n o n. last but not least, we have to show you how this bed works right now. the beds at about half size and it's tucked away in the back. so all you do is pull this leg out so it's out of the way the chair. also put the car down, well then the whole thing slide up like that to make it about a full size bed that are big enough to sit on. yeah. so that's going to wrap up the
6:37 pm
tour of the camper van it is starting to rain and i think it's gonna be raining for the rest of the night. so we are going to set up shop inside. we're gonna chill for the rest of the night and then we'll see you on top of the mountain tomorrow. the next morning they're heading high up on church bits in a cable car. hey guys, we're officially above the cloud. check that out. oh we took the cable car up to the top and it will cost you $50.00 euros apiece,
6:38 pm
round trip, but it is worth it just for the views alone. it's absolutely incredible appear. if you're lucky and you come up here on the right day, there will be a cloud in version which means the cloud are lower than the people that you're literally up here above the clouds. such bits is the highest mountain in germany at 2962 meters above sea level. it's, it's in southern germany at the austrian border and there are 3 different lifts they can take you to the top. we took the to roll a soup, spits bon, or flam, st. i right fire a little off that out. okay, but you guys, we can recommend during your trip to germany. check this out is incredible, or what amazing sr here represent the highest point in germany. oh my god, the views are incredible. luckily, we do not have the hike all the way up here. oh, we did have to do a small hike just to get to the star. it is pretty scary. i got maker with back down
6:39 pm
at the top of the mountain. there's this huge complex that it's still good with all sorts of amazing reading. there's restaurants, cafe restrooms, of course, and they have this whole level dedicated to the history of the mountain and building everything up here and how it all came to be. they even have examples of the train cars from all the different iterations on the train. i'm assuming this is around the eighty's right here. it's been absolutely amazing, just strolling around here and learning about the history of the area. we've sadly spot way too much time up here, but there is so much more to see on the road. so we're going to get out of here with next up for the to austria. they'll have to pay told if they want to continue on the roads here. coming up in our 1st thoughts, a little steep,
6:40 pm
10 euros would lower. what does that like? 12 usd or 70, some like that. i believe this is the 1st and only today. yeah. good. who did the crowns? the i'll come up with can you speak german? yeah. nicked that it to visit with her doctor and i'm seeing a sign right there. it looks like car charging, right? so this one should work. hopefully it's the fast one. ah. when we started our drive today, it said we had 316 kilometers till empty. but we have been going through the mountains and so that quickly dropped. we lost about a 100 kilometers in there. it'll be our 1st time doing it at a charging station. i'm very excited because i think it'll go very quickly. this is the he said, if you can find one that fits both of these, it's the best and should go the fast. and red stewart, i think most of the time for
6:41 pm
a little update on how we're doing on our waste reduction go. typically when we do a road trip in the us, it's so easy to just stop for fast food or stop at a gas station. and we'd have a bag of trash usually on day one. but i'm happy to say that this is the only trash we've made just within here, which we got a little bit of cheese in me, which we completely forgot. we bought this and then we were like, dang, why did we do that? yeah, bad on us. and then we got a bottle of water, but we have been refilling this and we'll keep doing that the other trip so, so far so good. i think that's but better than i thought we were gonna. yeah. and i think everything so far is recyclable with callison and eric make their way next to madonna, in the italian prophets of self to role in the city lies in a valley with quite the view of the dolomites. i mean, there's tons to do in the area i'm hiking to visiting wineries or you can do like us and head down to the old town, which is filled with all of these amazing structures spanning the century is
6:42 pm
absolutely beautiful. yeah, it really is not a bad way to spend a day here in italy and you can check out some of the amazing castles in the area like this troutman door of castle, which is known for its sprawling gardens in beautiful panoramic views. yeah, coming up here just for the views alone. it's totally worth it. you can see all the mountains in the area. you can see all the surrounding countryside and the gardens are incredible. they really do cover such a huge area to have hedge maze is over there. there are tons of beautiful, vibrant flowers all over the place and a bunch of really cool look out points. you can get an even higher view of the area . plus there is an easy charging station in the parking lot here at the castle, so well were exploring to beautiful gardens. are cars getting all charged up? murano is also known for having some absolutely delicious cuisine. so we're gonna straw around the gardens a little bit more, and then i'm with ah,
6:43 pm
a lunch, the cash to a restaurant called parser brown, which is right here in the old part of the town. the 1st step we have this is the sampling of all the local needs and a few of the cheeses. we're what we're really excited for is this spect noodle. so these are bacon dumplings in this delicious broth, normally be covered with chives, but we're not a huge child pants or no child's breath out of habit. i really for my name to get into these dumpling, but i read that it's actually very imply dumpling should cut on their own with a fork, and using a knife is rude. i don't know if it's still true nowadays, but i'll stick with the. i got a beer here. oh yes, we got a local beer and a local line to try and i
6:44 pm
. time has come to head out of murano. we're actually going to be heading further down south kinda in the middle of nowhere. so we stopped by a grocery store load up on some food. yes, because tomorrow is sunday. i think a lot of things are closed and it's supposed to be stormy. is we've got enough provisions to last us for a couple of a little update on the charging situation. so we told you guys we were charging while we were at the castle. unfortunately, we did something wrong or we didn't type of card, right. and we did not really charge at all, we're trying desperately to find a charging station. every single one we go to is either not really there or it's deep within a hotel that we're not sure how to access it. now somehow we've been ourselves stuck in a gated community. not really sure how to get out. i guess we live here now. no, it's residence now. okay,
6:45 pm
nice lady saw that we were struggling and open the gate for us. so we've left the gated community, at least y'all, i have no idea where i am. i'm pretty sure it's the one way street. i am going the absolute wrong way. but we had to go to a couple more spots. and sadly, the pumps were not working, but i think this one is going to be our lucky pump. you got the same when we used yesterday or thing. hopeful. it's hard to tell some of these whether or not you have to pay for some of them have been free and some of them have a little spot to put a card on there. so it turns out this one does require payment, but it should be charging now. we're in luck where officially charged the we're back on the road, the bill of took a little bit longer than we were anticipating about 45 minutes. unfortunately, the feeling that we stopped that was close down, so there was nothing for us to do that. we had to just kinda sit around in here and we ended up actually leaving a little bit before it was fully charge. which now i really think might have been a mistake on our end. we've gone down by about a little over a 100 kilometer charge. while we've only driven about kilometers. so it's
6:46 pm
going down about double as fast as we're traveling. yes, that's one thing we learned about this electric vehicle is that you really can't trust the range estimation that it gives me actually monthly, been on the motorway for the 50 kilometers. we only had a couple of turn off. i was not able to go down quickly, but all that aside, we are back on the road and we figured this would be a good opportunity to give you guys an idea what it's like driving the electric more now that we've had it for a few days actually just like driving any car accelerate got just like you would expect the air conditioning works, all of the amenities are just fine. i don't know if i'm expecting it to drive and it really doesn't. the big difference is really just that it makes, obviously, when you start up the gas engine while you're driving, it can here and it makes a lot of found. this doesn't make much sound at all of the sound of a gasoline engine. you just kind of call your i
6:47 pm
also just really nice to me and you can see that, i mean anywhere we go, we can basically have everything we need to stay the night. and as i expected, can also get a little bit cramped on the inside because we have all of our luggage in here. we have over here. and then of course the 2 of those was pretty tight quarters. but the 1st night and he stayed with actually raining out night, which was kinda challenging because that meant if you got outside and came in, we would track a bunch of mud everywhere. so basically we just had to stay on the inside. fortunately, there are likely to be that storm tonight and tomorrow we decided to be up in the hills so that we can see night drive. i know you don't have to worry about charging for a couple days. all right, fingers crossed that our charge last long enough to get us to our destination. and that destination is levy co tagami, the small city of south to roll at around 500 meters. so it's going to be pretty close getting up there because right now our range is
6:48 pm
going down for about 5 to 10 kilometers for every one kilometer because we're going up the hill and it's just a whole bunch of switch back to get up to where air b and b is and the radically, the meter shows that we have half the battery left. so i think we're going to make it, but it's going to suck all the jews down just to get up this hill. crazy destination is on the right. we made you guys with a little bit of charge to spare and we're the tippy top of this man. we get to the end of the road and it turn into like this nasty little with gravel road over here . yeah. we want to get away from the ground, then we did it. we have arrived at our italian chalet. we told you guys we're going to try to charge our vehicle here. so this is what we had to give to. there's no outside outlets. we got to plug up here, gotta go enough into this is actually what we're saying. so that is just plugged in right here to that outlet. and it goes right on down to the kern. how long does the say the charge um 14 hours 14 hours?
6:49 pm
is that something that i we have fowler. ah, we've got some hot tips for your bucket list. romantic corner tread hotspot for food chair and some great cultural memorials to boot w travel off. we go time for allison and eric dealer to move on to lake. got the largest o t u l l m c. they ramping and meet. they have just just will, can resort weekend and it is an amazing spot. they have all these different pitches for care of and which is what we're in right now. complete with private bathroom
6:50 pm
over there, which we'll show you guys in just a minute. but there are also all these different types of accommodations they have . these tend like structures that look like a ton of understand their little smaller cabin type of structures dotted all throughout the property. somewhat epic lake view, some that are kind of more nestled into the woods. so we're going to show you guys around our campsite a little bit. we thought a private bathroom, you know, maybe in the state. it would probably be kind of out house later. could actually i'll need this is me please find an apartment to retrieve or wait a whole toilet whole shower like even like a towel drying rack ah, gala, you're at with an offset, a better can't site. and we have our mobile kitchen here out and ready. we can show just take whatever imaginable you haven't, irwin, apartment like you know when it is actually what we're doing.
6:51 pm
ah, dinner is served. yeah. check it out. not too bad at all. huh. oh, definitely not still. it's just noodles and pastor's house with a bunch of a veggies, iraq. we're gonna eat our delicious dinner. this campsite has wise, who are probably gonna watch a little movie and our camper van. and then tomorrow we are going to go visit this really cool place on lake garda. there is a peninsula that sticks out for the castle on it and we are all about some castles . we'll see there. good aim. thank . good morning everybody. and welcome to sir miano. this city a very,
6:52 pm
very special because it is not just the city by the way, this is a city in the lake. yes. it fits on the skinny peninsula that goes, jetting out into lake garda. so it is completely surrounded by this amazing green crystal clear water is also just a beautiful city. you have all the stone streets that you get to walk through. a bickley old preserved buildings. they do allow cars, though they got to watch after that, when you're walking, talking with when you come to the city, you have to visit the castle, which is one of the best preserved castles in all of italy. it was built in the 13th century and has a man made harbor that was actually built to protect the castle ships. we're going to walk around the castle for a bit and taken the views and then go explore more of the town. with i can see myself being
6:53 pm
a princess at this castle may be the queen who knows, you know, dream big little girls out there at the very tip of the peninsula. you're gonna find these incredible old ruins. believe it or not, these are the remnants of an old villa that belong to a roman emperor in the years 27, b. c to 1480. so these are incredibly old. they belong to octavius caesar. i mean that guy had some epic taste. can you imagine building a villa on a peninsula like this, surrounded by the epic lake b? i'm vegan, this little peninsula. it's so interesting because you walk in to the castle. it seemed very medieval, a very european. and then you come back here to these olive trees and these ruined and you all this and feel very mediterranean. it's so warm and nice out. and it's like you stepped into ancient room. i know it's wild we, we went through so many centuries in just like 10 minutes. one thing there is
6:54 pm
definitely no shortage out here in here. me on me is jill auto. there is so much delano we decided to split one code because as you can see it as big as my whole head, we decided to get to different flavors. so on top is that you and underneath is brownie or not. this is the small, this is so very good. so warm out here. we've been walking around the city, you don't need water, we just need to know and she was a line that's a lot of place here. there's one right back here. there's one through that door over there. it is on every single one of the really is much so much john. we tried to play the head this time and we found the charging station in advance. oh it's there, i see it back there. well, will you be able to charge that tech?
6:55 pm
we made sure it had a restaurant attached to it. mm hm. this one will work, but i think this is the floor one. this should be the fact that we are still trying to figure this all out, but i think you gotta scan your card, but for you even well, that's a not authorized thing. we got this to work. finally, already we're all charged up back on the road and we are going to be trading in that league like for the coastal life you. all right, we're headed down the coast to the mediterranean sea to check out the land, working with terry. and it should be absolutely beautiful down here, and that's going to do it for this episode of the camper being road trip. i hope you guys enjoyed it, and i hope you're going to tune in the next couple of the road. there's going to be lots of food and lots of beautiful views are much more to go with
