as memphis is bracing for public outreach. nicholas family has also called for peaceful protests. with the morning, i'm joined by d. w reporter stacy stacy beavens in the studio. stacy, do we have any more clarity about what to place that night with the police chief says that these former officer say that terry nichols was driving radically and, and so that's why they stopped him. but the police chief also says that they have gone through video around the area and that there is no evidence to substantiate what they've said. so there's no idea. there's no reason they don't have an idea as to why this happened and why their police officers had so much aggression from the very beginning. and it continued to escalate and actually had the unfortunate responsibility of having to watch the video. and you see terry nichols trying to de

escalate while the police continued to escalate. and so the police chief does not yet know why. and how does this case, all police brutality differ to the others? well, part of it is the swift action by memphis. these officers were fired right away, there was care to prepare the public for what they were going to see. and there wasn't a, you know, less wait until all the evidence comes out there and into proven guilty. the police union kind of has distance itself. and so that's not lost on the black community that these black police officers were treated differently than white officers that that enact that. do police police protera brutality, sorry. so there is a difference there. they're happy that these cops have are facing the music, but they just want it to be with everybody and not just black police officers. so

let's look at this. a little deeper isn't really a case about police officers abusing their power, or are we talking about, you know, internalized racism within black police offices and how they function in the police force? well, it's definitely about police culture, but i wouldn't take race off the table either just because the officers are black. what we know is that racism is insidious and it impacts everyone. it's not just white people. black people as well, sometimes internalize the racism that they are absorbed and, and so it's not just a white thing. it's not just somebody who is able to use or somebody that uses the n word. it's a culture, it's a mindset. it's a mentality, it's what makes certain officers feel like they can go into neighborhoods where people are black or brown, and poor and treat them differently because they don't have money. they don't have the same voice that other residents have. so how will this case impact the why the

debate around police violence in the united states? well, you hear all of the politicians on the left and the right. same the same thing that this was a horrific event and it was referring to watch a young man be beaten for 3 minutes straight. start kicked punch. it was it's repulse. huh. but the same rhetoric is not going to change anything, though george for justice and policing act passed the house, and it had a stillbirth in the senate. so there needs to be something. and it's not just about training those, these cops need to be held accountable. so it's not about training, you don't train somebody how to be humane, how to treat somebody with respect. you hire the people who have the mentality to be police officers and the 1st prayer says he pippins in the studio for us. thank you so much. graham troops have been battling russian forces, tried to pierce its lines across the ethan dunn, yet screech m,

ukraine's president laramie lance. he has described the situation on the front lines as extremely acute fighting as thrown a new spotlight on russia's wagner group. a private military company led by a millionaire with links to russian president vladimir putin out. many of the vac, the fighters killed in ukraine were convicts who were promised freedom in exchange for this service. this creepy art was once an empty piece of land, but then grieves for the fallen fighters are fresh. just merson wagner droop, started getting duck frequently near a small farming community in southern russia. the wagner group on us, it's forsooth, with streets and wooden crosses and investigation by righteous news agency revealed that at least 39 of the fighters, buried here and a nearby cemetery spring, convicts included gillis, my address,

does the russian army rely on the wagner group fighters in ukraine? i put that question to defends x, but i mean, i'm iran from king's college london. i think there is a lot of reliance on wagner and i think they are not at odds was the shows were given the fact that a wagner has also close ties to the secret military intelligence, a g r u. so i, i think that they are coordinating their operations and to a certain degree and what was there a dog there doing the dirty work for the russian army. and they've been doing that in syria as well. so they are not afraid of a loss is because those losses are not documented in official statistics. so it's very safe to use wagner, because all to fight her is like the prisoners that gregorian has recruited are not basically in the official das toll. so it's very politically comfortable for russia to use wagner to do all those things. yes, reminder of our top story,
