20000 of 1st un 8 convoy arrives in bought on syria to distribute humanitarian assistance. ah, i've been for sewland, welcome. hailed as a hero, lot amazed to land ski is in brussels with leaders of the european union, $27.00 member countries at their special summit on ukraine. officials welcome the ukrainian president on his 2nd trip outside his country since the starter brush is full scale invasion. before the summit, mister soleski addressed the european parliament. you, graham, you are a piano we aff lives. somehow, as the shipping to russians are trying to destroy the ukraine in european way of life, o gains with total war will suggest not for what you were a place to destroy the ukrainian in european way of life. yeah, of course, no,
6:02 pm
not allowed us. but for each of all, 27 elements of the european way of life, 27 countries of the european union. this total waterfall, which rushes unleashed is not only for territory and one that we're another partner or a he, one it's threat lies only in the fact that there's a dictator with a massive stock pile of soviet weapons, iraq, and supporting weapons, or from other dictatorship each other was alicia donna's in particular data from the reigning machine or against was lloyd that did we had good was boy to be able to waged this war or the kremlin? absolutely. and cynically, what is consistently no step by step said year by year, mostly destroy what we see many asked the basis nisha far europe leash with you. mean by actually i asked are brussels corresponding jack barrick? what stood out for him in that speech by the ukranian leda. well,
6:03 pm
it was an impassioned speech in the european parliament. we went on extremely well . there was huge cheers. actually, even as he was walking in to the ham is cycle of the european parliament. but that was expected, i think the members of the european parliament, we knew that they would respond to him in that way. but what's happened since is that he's moved here to the european council, where on the same day, the 27 leaders of the european union are meeting and he gave a joint press conference with us on the lion. and with shall michelle, the european council president, and she being the european commission president, demanding that actually talks for ukraine's membership of the european union begin before the end of this year. president zalinski being here is very symbolic, but also he wanted action during this visit. what about what ukraine needs in his war against russia? what it, what about the sticking point of fighter jets? well, this has been the big talking point, especially over the last couple of weeks since european partners allowed leopard to

and other tanks to be exported or re exported into ukraine. the germans had a block on re exportation of tanks that were made in germany. they have now released that ever since that's been opened, the discussion and the pressure from keith, the government is asking for fighter jazz. so let's he comes here of the back of a visit to the united kingdom, where the brit said that they would accept that they would train fighter pilots. but what they need, as well as those fight to jazz. obviously that door having been opened with the tanks is one thing, but there is reluctance among in the bigger you capital, specifically for france and germany, him in berlin and paris to send a more fight, a jest over number of concerns firstly. and what that will mean, the escalation of the war, but also what it means for their own domestic national security. so jack, what else can we expect from today? some? well, an interesting thing, but is this february summit that we're him right now was meant to be all about the european union sorting out it's migration working out how can deal with additional
6:05 pm
flows of migrants coming in across the mediterranean and through the western bolton roofs. zalinski visit has really hard thrown it in a different direction, but the leader, the resuming that meetings as we speak, and we'll be talking about that very thorough. only internal issue of migration correspond jack power. thank you very much. now to some of the other stories making headlines, north korea has showcase several intercontinental ballistic missiles during a nighttime parade, marking this 75th anniversary of the founding of its military, north korean leader kim jong on attended the event with his daughter. john gang claims. the missiles are designed to reach the united states mainland the philippine president has met with the japanese prime minister in tokyo as the 2 nations look to strengthen ties in response to china is growing military pressure in the region. the 2 leaders are expected to sign a key defense agreement later that would allow japanese troops to join more

a move tie story, residential building a home for several families. but this building just collapsed in an instant when the quake hit on monday. and now several days later, rescues here found signs of life. they found a woman trapped under this giant pile of rubble allies. her name is zayna, rescues. here are joined by a special team from germany, from an engine called i as a, our international search and rescue germany. they brought special session rescue dolls and technical equipment and they actually managed to localize. they know, under this pile of rubble, they are in contact with her. they know where she is. they have provided her with food and water and now they are working to retrieve her from under the rubble. and i can tell you everybody around here, the rescues friends, her sister is here. they are desperately waiting for that moment to happen. we are
6:08 pm
waiting for those moments to happen. you tell us though, is enough of that expertise and that equipment reaching the places where it's actually needed. well, we have met teams actually from very different countries. mexico hungry, the u. k as well. german team is here now today. so dozens of countries have pledged age and that aid is coming in. but you have to really look at the scale of this humanitarian crisis. it's massive thousands of buildings just like this, have collapsed across the reader. more than 13000000 people have been effective. the turkish government says it has send in more than a 100000 rescue workers. but the impression we get here, it is just not enough. we really hear from people that they have received no help
6:09 pm
or help came in late, that they had to start digging for their loved ones with their bare hands. local rescue is volunteer. as many, many volunteers have joined the efforts here. they tell us that the efforts are very poorly organized and that makes it very, very difficult at the moment. but we have definitely seen aid coming in on the way when we were in the car on our way here. we actually saw lots of trucks loaded with food, for example, because they're just so many things people here in the region need right now. and what you make of the government's response, it's defense in saying that it couldn't prepare for a disaster of their sco. well, it's a natural natural disaster that is of course true. but what we hear in terms of criticism now is of course the question. how could it, how could it come to this, how come that some buildings have? what's with stone, the tremor, while others have just collapse like current houses. so there are lots of criticism
6:10 pm
in towards, you know, building standards, building safety standards, accusations that the government has not implemented them, that they have not been watching that process very closely. and that also explains a part that explains why people are angry here in the region and why this is causing yeah, that is putting the government of president ad one under pressure right now and causing so much grief dw with johan. thank you very much for joining us with the latest. there will be following the progress in syria. international aid has reached a rebel held enclave despite complications caused by a 12 year civil war and official at the touch of syrian border crossing apollo. why has confirmed that are regularly scheduled you when aid convoy has entered the region where millions rely on humanitarian aid? a d w team is there and sent this exclusive report. digging through the robot an

6:13 pm
it's necessary. it's needed. but there's nothing. nothing yet came after that great art came belonging for their quick. how can syrians hope to even help or save their relatives, their friends who are stuck on to rumble? when all they have is their, their hands to dig through the rubble? none of the heavy lifting equipment and none of the international expertise when it comes to finding earthquake survives you know, it's very sad, not even the heavy lifting equipment, no equipment at all before taking like wherever they find, like the small forks finding for where they can find and then many cases by their hands going through their relative houses and they dig in the ground and they calling for everybody's health. so what you always see. so the society themes, of course, including our games ation. i worked for that going from door to door asking for people to support and there is no equipment and i'm talking about the, i mean an area where it's surviving. it's 12 years work. so basically,
